Hennigar, Pruitt, Wanninger, Jaennette and Watson all Winners on Season Opener in Boone

After last week's races in Boone got rained out many people had ticket stubs and pit passes to be used up which included me. This week it meant it was time to make it back despite it being cold, windy weather and me being tired from making my first visit to Lee County Speedway.

I would say even though it was cold and windy there was some great racing action on Iowa's Action Track the Boone Speedway.

The first feature of the night was the Mod Lites/Dwarf Cars for fifteen laps. Before one lap was completed the caution would come out for a couple cars getting together when the racing got going it was Jason Whitehead taking the lead. Whitehead would hold on to the lead until lap six when Randy Bryan would sneak by and it appeared as if Bryan was going to take the win. However Andy Hennigar would make the pass on the last lap to take the win. Bryan would settle for second, Josh May was third, Mike Kennedy was fourth and #19 car was fifth.

In the IMCA SportMods eighteen lap feature it was Mike Pruitt taking the lead and not looking back despite two race cautions, on lap five and nine. Scott Davis would have a strong run and try to chase down Pruitt but run out of time and forced to settle for second. Jason Mallicoat, Bruce Egeland and David Schlicht rounded out the top 5.

IMCA Modifieds twenty lap feature would be caution filled feature. Luke Wanninger would take the early lead or so he thought as he got penalized for jumping the start so Jon Snyder was credited the leader of lap 1 but the caution would come out shortly after. On the restart, Snyder would break forcing the caution to come out and hand the lead over to Jake Durbin. Durbin's lead would be short lived as Wanninger would get by on the restart and cruise on to the win despite cautions on lap ten and fourteen. Jimmy Gustin made a strong run to finish 2nd, Durbin was 3rd, Joel Bushore was 4th and Kelly Lyons was 5th.

The IMCA Stock Cars would see a caution come out before 1 lap could be completed. When the race got going everybody would see Ryan Rose and Michael Jaennette battling it out for the lead, Rose would lead lap 1 but Jaennette would take the lead on lap 2 . Jaennette would hold off several challengers through the remaining 16 laps and take the win. Alan Van Gorp would finish 2nd, Gary Bass was 3rd, Rose was 4th and Donavon Smith was 5th.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. The caution would wave twice before a single lap was completed. John Watson would take the lead when the race finally got going and would go on to the win despite cautions on lap 4 and again on lap 7. Curt Reed, Justin Nehring, Aaron Rudolph and Carl Knight would finish second through 5th.

Racing action came to an end at 10:39 pm. Next week the Boone Speedway will be back in action Hot Laps at 6:45 pm and Racing at 7:30 pm.

Cale, Oliver Jr, Fullenkamp, Dunker and Griffiths Took the Wins on a Cold Night at Lee County

After Marshalltown and Des Moines cancelled races Friday Night because of the cold, rainy and windy weather i was asked at 2 pm if i wanted to tag along by Mike Van Genderen to go to Donnellson and be one of his crew members for the night so i headed to his shop in Newton at about 3:15 pm and we left his shop at 4:30 pm and arrived at about 6:30 pm.

This was my first appearance at the Lee County Speedway which has some new faces in charge. The track was dry slick all night but the racing action wouldn't disappoint the fans. Even mother nature tried to make her appearance but let the racing finish up and get the night in.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds and it was Donnellson Native Tyler Cale taking the lead and not looking back despite a caution that flew on lap 2 but Cale was able to take the win fairly easily. Josh Foster came home 2nd, Ryan Cook was 3rd, Brandon Banks was 4th and Jeff Waterman was 5th.

In the IMCA Stock Cars feature it was Jake Wenig from Burlington taking the early lead but the first race caution would fly on lap 1 for a couple cars getting together. On the restart Wenig would get passed by John Oliver Jr. and on the next lap in turn 2, Wenig would lose the handle and bring out the yellow. After another caution on the restart, Oliver Jr would have to battle with Jeff Mueller. Mueller would take the lead on lap 4 and hold on to it until Oliver Jr would take the lead back on lap 10. Mueller would end up pulling off because some mechanical problems when the caution came out on lap 12. Oliver Jr would go on to the win. Jim Redmann, Jason Cook, Jeremy Pundt and Chris Webb round out the top 5.

This year the 4 Cyclinders would now become the IMCA Sport Compacts and in their feature it was Chuck Fullenkamp leading all 12 laps despite 2 cautions, one for a couple cars getting together in turn 3 and 4 on lap 2 and then one on lap 8 for a big tractor tire in turn 2. Finishing behind Fullenkamp was Darin Smith, Kimberly Abott, Robert Thompson Jr. and Mike Hornung Jr.

IMCA SportMods feature would see Rick Barlow Jr leading lap 1. Tony Dunker would take the lead from Barlow Jr on lap 2 and go on to the win despite a couple of mid race cautions. Dunker would take the win and Barlow would end up 5th. Phillip Cossel was 2nd, Chris Larson was 3rd, Jim Gillenwater started 20th and finish 4th.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature and it was a battle in the early going between Dustin Griffiths and Andrew Hustead. Hustead would lead a few laps but Griffiths would take the lead and go on to the win. Hustead finished 2nd, Michael Wenke was 3rd and John Oliver Sr was unable to make the call.

After the races we were on the road back to the shop in newton and about halfway home we stop and ate at the village inn. We arrived back at the shop at a little after 1 am and by the time i left the shop i arrived back home in Marshalltown at 2:30 am

Hopkins, Carter, Anderson and Sobbing all Repeat Meanwhile Vanderbeek goes to victory lane on Nutz Graphics Night at SIS

This past Wednesday Night the Southern Iowa Speedway would see temperatures rise into the upper 80's and it was definitely very humid but that didn't keep the drivers from coming to the big 1/2 mile. There was 78 race teams to compete on Nutz Graphics of Oskaloosa and Centerville Night, there was also 2 sprint cars on hand to get a few hot laps sessions.

First feature of the night was the Autocrafters IMCA Sport Compacts and it was Merv Chandler taking the early lead. Larry Hopkins would make the move on Chandler and take the lead on lap 3. Hopkins would go on and get his 2nd win of the year at Osky and his 4th win in a week. Chandler settled for 2nd, Heat Race Winner Bill Whalen Jr was 3rd, Tyler Whalen was 4th and Justin Millhouse was 5th.

Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds saw Jim Lynch from Bloomfield take the early race lead. Lynch would continue to lead until lap 8 when Rookie Cayden Carter would make the move and take the win. Carter would begin to have a confortable lead until a caution would come out on lap 12 when Dakota Hayden would have his machine plant expire on the fronstretch. Carter manage to lead the final 6 laps to take his 2nd win of the year, Lynch finish 2nd. Finishing behind Carter and Lynch was Shane Weller, Brandon Banks and Jeff Conner.

In the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks it was Bill Bonnett leading lap 1. Danny Thrasher would get by and take the lead on lap 2 but Thrasher lead would be short lived as Shannon Anderson would make the move and take the lead on lap 6. Anderson would go on and take the win, his 3rd of the year at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Eric Stanton, Danny Thasher, John Watson and Dustin Griffiths rounded out the top 5.

Up next the Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock cars and it was Todd Reitzler leading the first lap. Reitzler would lose the handle after a restart and causing a pile up but keep moving so he would regain the lead. Kyle Harwood would battle with Reitzler for the lead and make it stick on lap 4 but little did Harwood know the "Z-Man" Zack Vanderbeek was right there and Vanderbeek would sneak by and take the win. Nathan Wood would run 2nd, Harwood would end up 3rd, Reitzler was 4th and Alan Van Gorp was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the Pyramid Graphics and Sports  IMCA SportMods and it was Josh Modde taking the early lead. Modde however would end up losing the leading after a couple of cautions came out after completion of 2 laps. Jesse Sobbing would be the one making the move on Modde and take the win, his 2nd of the year at SIS. Curtis Vanderwal would get by Modde on lap 16 to take 2nd with Modde ending up 3rd. Tony Johnson and Racer Hulin would finish 4th and 5th.

As mentioned above there was 2 sprint cars on hand to hot lap: 10 Tyler Groenenedyk from Oskaloosa and 0 Mike Mayberry from Fremont. Racing action came to an end just before 10:25 pm. I want to thank Mike Van Genderen, Tony Paris, Jen Oskerson and Michelle Van Genderen for letting me help out in the tower for the last several weeks and will be back next week.

Speaking of next week, Next Wednesday will be Kiss101.5 Night at the Races and any Montezuma Residents can get in for $5 next week. Hot Laps at 7:00 pm and Racing at 7:30pm Every Wednesday.

Chandler, Pippert, Dvorak, Murty and Ryan Win in Vinton

The orginal plan for today was to go to Knoxville for the 1st Annual Shootout for Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods and Hobby Stocks but i got the word at 9:30 am that it was cancelled and rescheduled for May 6th. After i heard that immediately checked with Benton County Speedway Promoter Mick Trier to see if Vinton was still racing and he texted back yes so i was making the plans to head to Vinton.

I was glad i did because there was some great racing tonight and i got to grab the mic for a couple stock car heats on the night which i was suprised with but want to thank Bucky Doren and Mick Trier for letting me do it.

First feature of the night was the 12 lap IMCA Sport Compact feature. Brett Vanous would lead the first lap but Nathan Chandler would take command on lap 2. The yellow would come out when something broke on Jaycee Floyd's car forcing him to a stop at the top of turn 1 and 2. Chandler would remain out front but with Steve Miedke right behind him. Miedke would see trouble as Jacob McVay would make contact which almost saw Miedke roll but end up come to a stop just off turn 4, McVay would be sent to the tail for questionable driving. Chandler would go on and take the win, Merv Chandler was 2nd, Gary Peiffer was 3rd, Brett Vanous was 4th and Travis Losenicky was 5th.

Before one lap would be completed in the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature, Adam Streeter would roll his car in turn 1, Streeter would climb from his car and be okay. When racing got moving it was Nathan Ballard taking the lead. Ballard looked to be going on to the win but Scott Pippert would chase him down and make the pass for the lead on lap 10. On lap 11 though Pippert would hit a big tractor tire in turns 3 and 4 that would force the yellow flag. Pippert would still be your leader and he would go on and take the win. Ballard, Matt Brown, Vince Buchholz and Clint Nelson would round out the top 5.

Next up was the 15 lap IMCA SportMods feature and it was Matt McCahen taking the early lead from his pole position.  McCahen seem to be holding off several challenges leading up to the cautions coming out on laps 8 and 9. McCahen continued to lead but would have to hold off Danny Dvorak from Vinton and it appeared as he was going to do that until the last lap. Dvorak would sneak by on the bottom and take the win over McCahen, McCahen would finish 2nd and he said he lost fuel pressure coming to the checkered meanwhile the red flag would come out as Mike Knapp and Brian Anderson got together coming to the checkered which sent Anderson rolling down the frontstretch. Nick Roberts, Tom Rawlins and Jayme Duinink would finish third through 5th.

In IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature it was Sean Johnson taking the early lead but Damon Murty would take the lead from Johnson on lap 6 and just 1 lap later the first caution came out. Murty remained out front but the caution would come out again on lap 8. Murty would have Johnson right behind him and still hold him off but then the caution came out with just 2 laps to go when Clayton Deppe would come to a stop on the backstretch. Murty would hold Johnson off the last 2 laps to take the win, Johnson would end up 2nd. Michael Jaennette, Nathan Wood and Scooter Dulin round out the top 5.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature and it was Ronn Lauritzen taking the early race lead. Lauritzen would lead but then a caution came out on lap 5 bunching the field back up. Lauritzen again would start to pull away but then the caution came out on lap 8. Lauritzen would remain out front until the next caution on lap 9 when Dawn Krall would go for a spin in turn 3 and Lauritzen would pull off with some kind of mechanical issues this would hand the lead over to Shawn King. King would have to survive 2 more cautions but go on and take the win. Adam Johnson was 2nd, Joe Docekal was 3rd, Jerry Luloff was 4th and Brandon Banks was 5th.

Racing action came to an end at 9:05 pm meanwhile we also learned the North Benton EMS crew had raise over $5,000 for LUCAS Chest Compression System for the 2nd ambulance that you see at the race track on sunday as it currently does not have one like the other ambulance has.

Next Sunday will be Weekly Points Night number 2 with the gates opening at 4 pm, hot laps at 5pm and racing to follow. More information check out http://www.jjamracing.net/

Mother Nature Wins Season Opener Again in Boone

Decided to make the trip to Boone because if anybody was going to race within about and hour away they would be the one to race. I arrived at the track at 5:45 and mother nature decided to rain so i waited and 10 minutes later in decide it was going to race.

Hot Laps were completed despite the track still being wet and slimy and then Mother Nature decided she was going to spoil the plans just as the first hobby stock heat race was staged up in staging mother nature decided to rain down hard forcing the cancellation. The track officials were trying to work the track but it became virtually impossible to race because it was so wet.

Boone Speedway will try it again next Saturday Night with Hot Laps at 6:45 pm and Racing at 7:30 pm.

Next up on my adventures is a trip to the Knoxville Raceway for the Shootout on Sunday and the Maybe my 4th trip this year to the Southern Iowa Speedway!

Marshalltown Speedway finally opened its Wolf Seeds "Chase for the Championship" on Friday Night with 116 cars signed in to compete in 6 classes. Also on KMJ Performance Night at the Speedway the Micro Sprints were in attendance. The weather might have been a little chilly but the fans didn't come disappointed.

First feature of the night was the Micro Sprints 10 lap feature which had 11 cars on hand to race but before the race got going the caution would come out for Nathan Mills coming to a stop on the backstretch. When the race got going it was Brad Comegys taking the lead it looked as if Comegys would take the win. Kelly Buckellow would make the move and complete the pass on Comegys to take the win. Comegys got 2nd and Dan Beerends would finish 3rd.

IMCA Sport Compacts 10 lap feature and it was Merv Chandler taking the lead from his pole position. David Moorman, Jer Pedersen, Jordan Peters and Justin Tharp round out the top 5.

In the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites 12 lap feature it was Mike Morrill taking the early race lead. Morrill would get several challenges from Joel Huggins, Andy Hennigar and Josh May. The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods 15 lap feature saw Clint Luellen take the early race lead but then the first caution would come out on lap 3 for Doug Smith in turn 2. Luellen would remain out front but on lap 8 it was Jenae Gustin taking the top spot. Gustin's lead was short lived as Luellen would come back and take the lead on lap 11. Luellen would go on to the win but after that was unknown as Gustin, Eric Elliott and Shawn Simatovich would get together on the fronstretch after Luellen took the checkered flag. Racer Hulin would end up 2nd, Nick Roberts was 3rd, Joel Rust was 4th and Jared Van Deest was 5th.

In the Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars feature, Damon Murty would take the lead but Sean Johnson would stay right there and give Murty several challenges and then the caution came out on lap 9 for Kevin Balmer coming to a stop on the frontstretch. On the restart, Murty would have to battle with Johnson and Johnson would make the pass for the lead on lap 12. Johnson would go on to take the win with Murty finishing 2nd. Pro Line Building Company Night at SIS was Also Redemption Night?

The Southern Iowa Speedway has been the only lucky track in Iowa so far as the speedway has not gotten 3 nights in. This week was night number two of IMCA Weekly Racing Series Track Points and this night would not leave fans disappointed. Pro-Line Building of New Sharon was the evening sponsor, it was also New Sharon Community Night and Free Popcorn Night at the Southern Iowa Speedway.

First feature of the night was the Pyramid Graphics IMCA SportMods 16 lap feature. "Mighty Mouse" Jason McDaniel would take the early lead just like last week and after the completion of 2 laps the caution would come out for Jason Hall having something break in the rearend of his car forcing him to come to a stop off the backstretch. When the race resumed it was McDaniel resuming command and he pulled away from the rest of the field. McDaniel would cruise on to the win, Last Week's Feature Winner Jesse Sobbing was 2nd, Brett Lowry was 3rd, Bill Gibson was 4th and Carter VanDenBerg was 5th.

In the Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature it was Kyle Harwood leading the entire feature that went green-white-checkered. Nathan Wood would finish 2nd, Matt Greiner was 3rd, Corey "From Across The Street" Stout was 4th and LeRoy Groenendyk was 5th.

Autocrafters IMCA Sport Compacts 10 lap feature saw Bill Whalen Jr take the early lead and look to be cruising to the victory but on lap 7, Whalen was passed by Larry Hopkins for the lead. Hopkins would lead the final laps to take the win and Bill Whalen took 2nd. Tyler Whalen, Merv Chandler and Mark Mccaughy rounded out the top 5.

Next up was the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks and it was Danny Thrasher leading the first lap but his lead would be short lived as they were coming off turn two 4 wide and it would be Donavon Nunnikhoven slipping by and taking the lead. Nunnikhoven would lead the remaining laps in the feature that would also go green to checkered. Shannon Anderson, Dustin Griffiths, John Watson and Eric Stanton would round out the top 5.

Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds saw Andrew Schroeder take the lead and it appeared he was going to go on to the win but then on lap 11, Richie Gustin would get by and take the lead and Schroeder would end up pulling off. Gustin took the win in the feature that was shorten down to 15 laps. Shane Weller, Cayden Carter, Jeff Conner and Andrew Schroeder finished second through fifth.

The final feature of the night was the Iowa Sportsman Series race. The Iowa Sportsman Series had their race split up into 3 segements (25 laps, 20 laps and 30 laps) and at the end of the first 2 it was Gene Tish. In the last segement, Tish would lead all 30 laps to take the win. Gary Phillips would finish 2nd, Chad Reynolds was 3rd, Kris Walker was 4th and Tom Daumbaugh wsa 5th.

Racing for the IMCA division came to and end at 9:40p meanwhile the night came to and end at 9:55pm. Next Wednesday Night will be Nutz Graphics Night and Centerville Community Night, Hot Laps at 7pm and Racing at 7:30pm

With very little racing happening this weekend because of the weather i decided to head to Wells Fargo Arena and watch the Iowa Barnstormers (2-2) play against the Arizona Rattlers (3-1). Barnstormers were 0-2 at home going into the game.

This game was a wild and crazy game until the final horn expired. The game started with a turnover that resulted in a touchdow and had things like a severe thunderstorms knocking power out for about 15 minutes and then the fire alarms went off because of a power surage that also delayed the game for 15 minutes.

Arizona Rattlers won the coin toss and deferred to the 2nd half so the Barnstormers got the ball first but on the opening kickoff, Iowa's return man Jesse Simpson would fumble the ball in the endzone and the Rattlers would recover the ball in the endzone and take the lead only :07 into the game.

Iowa would answer back with a 14 yd TD Pass from J.J. Raterink to Jesse Schmidt to tied it up with 9:59 left in the first. Rattlers would come back and take the lead with 5:48 left by a 2 yd TD pass from Nick Davila to Maurice Purify, Arizona on top 14-7 at that point. Iowa would come back and score again with 2:19 left in the 1st on a 4yd run by Rodney Filer, the extra point would be missed so Arizona holds on to the lead 14-13.

In the 2nd quarter now it was Arizona Rattlers striking first with a 13 yd TD pass from Davila to Andrae Thurman with 12:38 left in the 2nd, Arizona leads 21-13. Iowa would strike back within 1 with a 25 yd TD pass from Raterink to Schmidt at 10:02 left in the 2nd to make the score Arizona 21-20.

Shortly after that with about 7:38 to go the Arena would lose power and there would be a delay of about 15 minutes but as soon as the arena received power it caused a power surage and set off the fire alarms for another 15 minutes. When the action resumed Arizona would score again with 5:08 left on a 6 yd pass from Davila to Odie Armstrong.

Iowa would answer back with :49.8 left on a 3 yd pass from Raterink to Schmidt to make it Arizona 28-27. Arizona would score again with :35.8 left in the 2nd on a 1 yd pass from Davila to Purify, PAT would be missed by Chris Gould so Arizona on top 34-27. After several defensive penalites on Arizona with less than :10 to go and 2 of them with :00 left and then they call a timeout. The Barnstormers however Iowa would answer with a 2 yd TD pass from Raterink to Schmidt, Craig Camay PAT kick was good so the score was tied 34-34 at the half.

Arizons strikes first in the 3rd quarter on a 15 yd TD pass from Davila to Kerry Reed with 12:11 left, Gould's kick was missed so Arizona only leading 40-34. Iowa would respond back with 8:41 left on a 3 yd pass from Raterink to Schmidt, Camay's kick was no good so the score was tied again at 40-40. Arizona would be unable to answer and would turn the ball over to the Barnstormers. The Barnstormers would take the lead with 2:48 to go in the 3rd on a 38 yd TD pass from Raterink to Schmidt, Camay's kick was good and the Barnstormers would take the lead 47-40 as the 3rd quarter would come to and end.

In the 4th and final quarter it was Arizona striking first with 12:59 left on a 6 yd TD pass from Davila to Purify, the game would be tied 47-47 after Gould's kick. Iowa would come back again and score on a 6 yd TD pass from Raterink to Chris Matthews with 7:09 left. Arizona would get the ball back but Davila would throw his 2nd Interception of the game and give it back to Iowa so i would take the clock down to :57.9 left and kick a 25 yd FG by Camay. Iowa would have the lead now 56-47. Arizona would respond back with :30.4 left on 4 yd TD pass from Davila to Purify to make the score 56-54.

Arizona would try an onside kick but Iowa would recover and get a first down and be able to run the clock out. Iowa would move to 3-2 on the season and 1-2 at home this season. Iowa Barnstormers are on the road next week against the Utah Blaze, a team they lost at home back on March 17th.

Game started at 7:07pm and finished at 10:37pm. If you want to see photos i took from the game last night go to:  http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150802764141215.465104.502511214&type=1

Unlike the Frostbuster there would be 5 classes instead of 4 like last week competiting on the big half mile on the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds.

First feature of the night was the 6 lap Autocrafters IMCA Sport Compacts feature. Steve Miedke from Shellsburg would lead the first lap but it was Merv Chandler making the pass and taking the lead on lap 2. Chandler would go on and take the win, John Whalen was 2nd, Bill Whalen was 3rd, Miedke was 4th but may have broken a gear when the race came to an end and it was Larry Hopkins in 5th.

Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks 14 lap feature was next and it was Shannon Anderson leading the race from start to finish. For much of the race the only battle was for 4th through 6th but when the caution came out on lap 11 for Scott VanBusKirk losing an axel and wheel in turn 4 it would set up an interesting finish. Anderson would be able to hold off everybody for his 2nd win this season at Southern Iowa Speedway. Kevin Fee, Dustin Griffiths, John Watson and Donavon Nunnikhoven rounded out the top 5.

In the Pyramid Graphics IMCA SportMods feature it was Jason McDaniel taking the lead early and looked to be the guy to beat. The first caution came out for Richie Arnold on lap 4 because he came to a stop in turn 2. McDaniel would be able to hold off the challenges from Carter VanDenBerg and Jenae Gustin on the restart but then the caution came out again on lap 9 for Brayton Carter getting into the outside wall in turn 4.

On the restart McDaniel would continue to lead but 4 laps later the caution would come out for Ryan Fullencamp and Tony Johnson getting together in turn 2 meanwhile McDaniel appeared to lose a spring and pulled in handing the lead over to Carter VanDenBerg. When the race got going VanDenBerg would hold off Jesse Sobbing and Curtis VanDerWal but then VanDenBerg's dad John would bring out the caution on lap 14 setting up for a green-white-checkered finish. Carter VanDenBerg and Sobbing would do battle and Sobbing would make the pass and take the win while VanDenBerg settled for 2nd. Jenae Gustin, Bill Gibson and Racer Hulin would finish 3rd through 5th.

The Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds would see Rookie Cayden Carter lead the entire 15 laps in the feature that would go green-to-checkered. Scott Dickey took 2nd, Corey Dripps was 3rd, Former Stock Car Champion Shane Weller was 4th and Dakota Hayden was 5th.

The final feature was the Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars for 18 laps and the saying "Saved the Best for Last" was trully the case on this night as the Stock Car feature saw some great racing. Heavy Duty Don Killen would lead ther first 5 laps but Nathan Wood would make the move and take the lead away. Shortly after Wood took the lead the only race caution would come out for Leroy Groenendyk sitting on the backstretch. Wood would have to deal with Killen and Damon Murty and would hold them off until lap 9 when Murty made the move to take the lead. Murty would hold off several challenges from Todd Reitzler and Zack Vanderbeek to take the win. Vanderbeek, Killen, Matt Greiner and Wood rounded out the top 5.

Racing action start at about 7:50pm and came to and end at about 10:05pm. If you are looking for a great family Wednesday night racing spot head to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. Pits Open at 5p, Grandstands at 6p, Hot Laps at 7p and Racing at 7:30p.

Next Wednesday Night will be Pro-Line Building Night plus Iowa Sportsman Series will be in attendance next week. It will also be New Sharon Night meaning any resident from New Sharon gets in for $5 in the grandstands and Free Popcorn for everybody.

Thanks to Mike VanGenderen for letting me attend another night. Also thanks to Tony Paris, Jenn and Michelle for letting me chill out in the tower.

Frostbuster Champions: Schrader, Lariviere, Murty and Brinton?

After attending all 5 nights of the Frostbusters this past week i decide to put together some stats for the Frostbusters there not major stats not heat races stats since i missed some of the heats in Des Moines on Thursday.

During the 5 nights of Frostbusters we had 10 states and 1 province in Canada i attendance to race. The states in attendance where Iowa, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Kansas, North Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, California, Minnesota and Texas. The one province in Canada that was strongly represented was Saskatchewan

Only 14 cars made attended all 5 nights of the frostbusters. The Modifieds saw 8 attend all 5 nights including NASCAR Racing Veteran Kenny Schrader. The Stock Cars had 5 attend all 5 nights meanwhile the SportMods had 1 attend all 5 nights and the Hobby Stocks had none attend all 5 nights.

The average car count for each night was a 150.2 with the highest being 211 cars at Marshalltown and the lowest being 92 at Vinton. So if you take out Marshalltown's number out of the figure it was 135.

Car Counts
Oskaloosa       124
Des Moines     135 (numbers do include the trucks)
Marshalltown  211
Boone              189
Vinton             92 (numbers do include the Sport Compacts)

Marshalltown also had the highest number of IMCA Modifieds signed in with 71 Modifieds......now a couple of factors on Boone and Vinton are Algona and Mason City were racing on Saturday and Sunday and the others decided to head home early!
