A Hot and Action Packed Night at the North Central Speedway

On Saturday Night i decided to head to the races because my family was staying at the Bayside Cabins near the town of Backus, Minnesota i decided to make the trip to the North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota for a great night of racing on a hot and steamy night. Brainerd is about 40 minutes south of Backus, Minnesota.

As temperatures reach 90 degrees, fans and drivers still entered the north central speedway to enjoy the fun filled night of racing action for all the Wissota divisions plus the Vintage Cars.

In the Vintage Cars features, first the Full Body Legend cars the #4C from Breezy Point, Minnesota would lead the first 2 laps but on the restart after a caution on lap 2 when the #55 car spun in turn 3 & 4 he was passed by the #4 car for the win. In the Super Modified division, the #31 car took the early race lead but was passed on lap 5 by the 03 of Dennis Olson.

The first feature of the night was the Hornet Feature, Ashley Mehrwerth would has been on a roll in the first few weeks of this division at the North Central Speedway look to be cruising on to the win but was passed with 3 laps to go by Clint Walstrom. Walstrom would take the win, Mehrwerth would take 2nd, David Deters would take 3rd, Greg Boje was 4th and Brandon Mehrwerth rounded out the top 5.

WISSOTA Modifieds were up next for their feature, the car count was down do to a special in Alexandria, Minnesota. Don Eischens would teake the lead right away and lead the entire 20 lap feature that went green-to-checkered. Shane Sakraski, Jeff Hart, Charles Cooper IV and Justin Jones would complete out the top 5.

Up next was the NCS Pure Stocks for their 15 lap feature. This feature was caution plagued. Chris Seidel would lead the first 3 laps but he would be passed by Gary Ohnstad Jr on lap 4. Shortly after Ohnstad took the lead the first caution came out for Johnny Moe and Cory Loderemeier getting together i turn 4. Before they could get another lap in the books 2 more cautions came out, first for Corey Hill stopping in turn 1 & 2 and then for Nick O'Brien in turn 4. Finally they were able to get going and Ohnstad continued to lead it but 4 laps later another caution came out this time for Bill Nelson spinning on the frontstretch. Ohnstad resumed command on the double file restarts but 5 laps later on lap 13 Nelson and Dale Boser got together then on the restart again there was another caution came out when 3 cars got together in turn. Normally if they get 5 cautions in a race they dock 5 laps but since the race was with only 2 laps to go it was finished and Ohnstad was able to hold on to the win. Robert Mueller, Mike Smude, Richard Nelson and Cory Loderemeier would finished 2nd through 5th.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were next out on the track for their 15 lap feature but before they could get 1 lap in the books, the first caution was for Todd Wooden would spin in turn 2 after contact with Tim Johnson. When the race got going Christina Wollak would take the lead, she would look to be cruising away but then just 4 laps in the race the only other race caution would come out when Bryan Carstensen would stop on the frontstretch. Wollack would now have Tim Johnson on her back bumper on the restart but when on lap 6 Johnson would make the pass for the lead but Wollack would stay close the remainder of the race but fall back to 4th in the end. Johnson would take the win, Dan Severson was 2nd, Jack Petersen was 3rd, Wollack was 4th and Howard Kropuenske was 5th.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature which also went 15 laps. Again before 1 lap was completed the first caution came out when Marc Miller lost his front end going in turn 1. Dan Severson would take the lead on lap 1 but was passed on lap 2 by Justin Jones. Jones would hold on to the top spot through the only other race caution on lap 7 when Rob Kugel stopped in turn 2. Jones would hold on to the top spot until lap 13 when Shane Sabraski would make the pass for the lead and go on and take the win. Jones, Dan Ebert, Chuck Olson and Danny Vang would round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the WISSOTA Super Stocks for 20 laps. Derek Sweet would jump out to the early lead but the first caution came out on lap 3 when Tim Johnson would spin in turns 1 & 2 and then Sweet would be passed by point leader Don Eischens, who won the Modified Feature earlier in the night but another race caution would come out on lap 9 when Tony Schaefer would spin in turn 2. Eischen still held on to the lead for a few more laps but then on lap 14 the final race caution came out when Sweet would spin in turn 4. On the restart, Eischen would be passed by Jake Goetze. Goetze would go and take the win, Eischen would fall back to the 10th. Finishing behind Goetze was John Yilek, Brett Dulas, Tim Johnson and Derek Sweet.

Racing action came to and end at 10:26 pm. It was a great night of racing action. I have to thank Promotor Tim Boeder for putting on a great show depsite the hot weather. Tim and his staff do a great job and wish them the best and they hope to see you at the North Central Speedway.

Kennedy, Elliott, Wood, Gustin and Gunderson Win on Shriners Night at Marshalltown

Tonight brought the 3rd race in 1 week for the Marshalltown Speedway and it was Shriners Night along with being Scout Night and the Racing action once again wouldn't disappoint people. The racing surface was fast and smooth.

A total of 125 race teams signed in to compete. 14 Micro Mini Sprints, 17 Mod Lites, 24 Sport Mods, 21 Stock Cars, 23 Modifieds and 20 Hobby Stocks.

The first feature of the night was the Micro Mini Sprints for 12 Laps, this is the first of 3 appearances. Brad Comergy would take command right away, all the drivers would race close and side-by-side all the way around the race track. The only race caution came out on lap 4 when #59 car stopped on the run off road. When the race resumed Comergy remained in control and would cruise on to the victory. Dan Henning, Tom Ottenbacher, Ben Woods and Wade Huisman rounded out the top 5.

The O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature slated for 15 Laps was up next. Travis Stensland would take command early but would lose the lead to Mike Kennedy on lap 3. Kennedy would be cruising right along and then the only race caution came out on lap 7 when Cory Sonner spun in turn 2. On the restart the top 5 was Kennedy, Josh May, Eric Hendrickson, Mike Morrill and Tim Hennigar. Kennedy and May would begin to do battle for the lead just after the green came out and would cross the line side-by-side on lap 12 and 13. Kennedy would be able to hold off May for the win. Hennigar would finish 3rd, Eric Hendrickson was 4th and Mike Morril was 5th.

Next up was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature for 15 laps, 4 heats and a b-feature would be used to get the field down to 24 cars. "Downtown" Kyle Brown would take command early but the Rookie Dylan Book would take lead from Brown on lap 4. Brown would make the pass on Book on lap 6 again and then on lap 7 the first caution came out when Jayme Duinink spun in turn 1 & 2. On the restart, Brown would have Book, Eric Elliott, Brett Moffitt and Cayden Carter on his back bumper.

Brown and the field would see another yellow on lap 8 when Book blew up coming off turn 4 and dumping a lot of fluid on the track but then Adam Shelman spun in turn 1 and made contact with Jenae Gustin, Shelman's car would then roll resulting in a red flag. Shelman would be okay, Gustin would be okay as well after getting checked out by the safety crew. Brown this time would have Elliott right behind him and on the restart Elliott would power by Brown and take the lead. Elliott would go on and take the win with Brown taking 2nd. Eric Flander, Cayden Carter and Brett Moffitt would round out the top 5.

The class "Too Tough To Tame" Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars were up next for 18 laps. Nathan Wood from Keswick would take advantage of his outside front row starting spots as he would begin to pull away from the field but then the first race caution came out on lap 4 when Keith Miner would stop in turns 1 & 2. Wood would pull away again but would see 2 more cautions on lap 9, first for Justin Hartgers spinning in turn 2 and then on the restart for Austin Evans spinning in turn 4. Wood wouldn't let those cautions faze him as he would be able to power his race car and pull away from the rest of the field. Trent Murphy, Dustin Smith, Tracy Gienger, Jeff Wollam and Clay Deppe rounded out the top 6.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds were up next for 20 laps. On the initial start, the start was bad to begin with so it was called back but Daniel Hilsabeck would also spin in turn 3. On the restart, the veteran Denny Rosenberg would take command but that would only last one lap as he would lose the lead to Richie Gustin on lap 2 and Gustin would take full control. Only 2 things slowed Gustin's pursuit to win was lap traffic and the final caution on lap 16 when Andrew Kinser would spin turn 3 & 4. Gustin would go on to the win, Luke Wanninger came home 2nd, Denny Rosenberg was 3rd, Adam Larson was 4th and Mike O'Lear was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the 12 lap Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks. Jeff Gunderson would jump to the lead and never look back but would have to hold off many late race challenges thanks to a caution on lap 8 when Calvin Dhondt spun in turn 4. Gunderson would have to hold off Todd Reitzler, Eric Larson, Mark Lamer and Devin Smith and would do so to go on and take the win, Larson came home 2nd, Michael Murphy would make his way to 3rd, Smith was 4th and Reitzler was 5th.

Racing action will continue at the Marshalltown Speedway next friday with the pits opening at 5:15, Grandstands at 5:30, Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing at 7:15.

Foster Wins The JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modified Mayham at Indee

The JR Motorsports had to wait 8 days for the season to begin but the weather was great for some racing Wednesday night. I decide i would make my way up to the Independence Motor Speedway for my first visit there in like 5 years and i went home really happy.

The Night had 59 cars sign in for the Modified Mayham at Indee for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour IMCA Modifieds, 20 IMCA Sport Mods signed in and 14 IMCA Hobby Stocks signed in as well to compete. The Modifieds would run 6 heats taking the top 3 to the feature, 3 b-features taking the top 2 transfering and then 1 track provisional. In the IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks all cars went to the feature so no b-features needed.

After all the heats were completed a little track work was done and then the Modified B-Features came out on the track then it was time for the features.

First feature of the night was the 15 Lap IMCA Sport Mod feature, Kaleb Bentley would get a great start and take the lead on lap 1 after starting 2nd row inside, just after 1 lap was completed Jeremy Embrey caused a yellow to come out so he was sent to the tail on the restart. Bentley would get going on the restart and would hold on to it until lap 4 when he was passed by 4th row inside starter Kurt Hogan, who made his way to the front very quickly.

Hogan would hold on to the top spot the remainder of the race and the only that would slow him down was lap traffic that would allow Bentley to stay close and also would allow Austin Kaplan to catch up. Hogan took the win, Bentley was 2nd, Kaplan took 3rd. Tyler Droste and Danny Dvorak would round out the top 5.

Up next was the main attraction of the night the "Modified Mayham at Indee" Inaugural JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour 30 Lap feature. Ed Thomas and Ryan Gustin would lead the field to the green flag. Gustin would take the early lead but just after 2 laps were in the books the first caution would come out when Jerry Luloff and Corey Dripps would spin in turn 3, Brandon Savage and Mike Albertsen would also stop in turn 3.

Gustin would set the pace in the double-file restart, he would have Jeff Feaster and Jay Noteboom on his back bumper but on the restart a multiple car pile up including Rich Smith, Jeff Feaster, Jason Snyder, Toby Hartman, Ed Thomas, Brandon Savage and Dennis Betzer in the exit of turn 2. On the restart, Gustin again would set the pace with Jay Noteboom and Michael Long this time on the back bumper.

Gustin would see another caution after another caution would be in the books Dennis Betzer would spin in turn 3 & 4. With this yellow the field would have single file restarts the rest of the way. Gustin would now have Josh Foster on his back bumper and Jay Noteboom (in Joel Bushore's car) right behind Foster.

It would take Foster until lap 10 to get by Gustin as Gustin would give up the bottom and Foster would take advantage. It looked as Foster was pulling away for a little bit but Gustin would stay close as would Noteboom and Long, meanwhile Richie Gustin would be moving through the field to get up their as well.

At the half-way point of the race the top 15 was Foster, Richie Gustin, Noteboom, Long, Richie Gustin, Nate Caruth, Mark Schulte, Mike Jergens, Jimmy Gustin, 19D Darin Duffy, Rich Smith, Jeff Morris, Justin O'Brien, Greg Cox and Jason Snyder.

Foster and the field would see another caution on lap 19 when Toby Hartman would stop on the frontstretch but Foster wouldn't let it faze him. Gustin would take advantage to regroup after losing the lead. Foster, Gustin, Noteboom, Long and Richie Gustin would be the top 5 on the restart.

Foster would have to hold off Ryan Gustin in the end, he would do exactly that as he would go on and take the win and become the first driver in the history books of the hawkeye dirt tour. Ryan Gustin would take 2nd and Noteboom would see his engine expire and would end up 8th. Richie Gustin, Michael Long and Nate Caruth would round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Before 1 lap was completed the caution would come out when Justin Stander would stop on the backstretch. On the restart, Kyle Anderson would take the lead. Anderson would begin to pull away but another caution would come out on lap 5 when Vince Buchholz (Joe Sprague's car) would spin out in turn 3 & 4.

Anderson would get a great restart and try to pull away but the final race caution would come out on lap 12 setting up a 3 lap dash to the finish. This caution was for Scott Pippert would have something break up in the rearend after contact with Josh Irvine. Pippert would end on the wrecker and Irvine was sent to the tail on the restart.

Anderson would now have to do battle with August Bach. They would race side by side the final laps, Anderson would lead lap 13 but Bach would lead the final 2 laps and go to the win. Anderson would settle for 2nd with Rod Grother, Brad Forbes and Quinton Miller behind Bach and Anderson.

Racing action came to and end at 10:18pm. The next race for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour will be the Memorial Day Special on Monday May 31st at the I-35 Speedway with IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks also racing. Aikey and Guss Battle for the Win at Marshalltown

This is the night a lot of racing fans and drivers mark on their calenders to attend and a night it was as the highbanks of Marshalltown hosted the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models. For the Late Models it was race number 6 on the 2010 campaign and it would be excited but before their feature their would some others.

Exactly 100 cars signed in the pits to do battle at Marshalltown. 19 Mod Lites, 8 Dirt Trucks, 30 Sport Mods and 43 Late Models. 2 Mod Lites Heats, 2 Dirt Truck Heats, 4 Sport Mod Heats and 5 Late Model Heats were run before features.

The first feature of the night was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature for 15 Laps. Joel Huggins would take advantage of his pole position as he would jump out to the lead but just after 1 lap was completed Travis Stensland would spin in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart, Huggins would continue to set the pace and look to be pulling away but he would see the yellow come out again on lap 12 when Rick Taylor spun in turn 2 putting the field on the back bumper again. Huggins would get a good start and still go on to the win, Josh May would take 2nd, Tim Hennigar was 3rd, Mike Morrill was 4th and Matthew Goodin was 5th.

Then the Sport Mod B-Feature would come out and Dylan Book would start last after getting disqualifed in the heat race and go on to the win. The other transfer cars were 14 year-old Nick Roberts, Matt Lettow and Ryan Ashton.

Late Model B-Features were next. In B-Feature #1, Tyler Bruening would take the win with Rob Toland and Boone McLauglin getting the transfer spots. In B-Feature #2, Chargin Charlie McKenna would take the win over Terry Neal and "Ironman" Darrel DeFrance.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks were up next for their 10 lap feature. Pat Fagen would start inside row 2 but would quickly jump to the lead and look to be cruising to the easy win but the only race caution came out with 2 laps to go when Mark Fee would spin in turns 3 & 4. Fagen, Ed Nelson, Bryan Nevins Jr, Bret Moyer and Lou Siplot were your top 5 on the restart and would finish that way in the ending of the feature.

After 4 heats and a b-feature helped get the field down to 24 cars the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were up for their 15 lap feature. Before 1 lap would be scored the caution would come out as Brandon Leeman would spin out in turn 2. When the race would get going the pole sitter Brett Moffitt would take control and be setting the pace and pulling away but a caution would come out on lap 9 when Jerry Hinton would spin in turn 2. Just after they took the green but before 1 more lap would be scored the final race caution would come out when Cayden Carter would spin in turn 2 and Geoff Olson would go off the top of turn 2. But Moffitt wouldn't let those cautions faze him as Moffitt would go on and take the win. Zach Rawlins, Kyle Brown, Jesse Sobbing and Rod McDonald would round out the top 5.

The finale of the night was the "Miller Lite 50" for the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series. After 5 heats, 2 b-features and 3 provisionals determine the field of 24 cars. Veteran Greg Kastli would start on the pole and take control but on lap 4 the caution would come out as Darrel DeFrance would stop in turn 2. Kastli, Jay Johnson, Jeff Aikey were the top 3 on the restart, Johnson chose inside and Aikey went outside. On the restart, Aikey would get that top line to work as he would get by Johnson and Kastli and take the lead. The Next Caution would come out on lap 11 when 39 Rob Toland would spin in turn 4, Mark Burgtorf spun out in turn 3 after running through some fluid on the race track so he was sent to the tail. Aikey, Johnson and now Ray Guss would lead them back to the green.

On the restart, Aikey would take command again and Guss would get by Johnson but on lap 19 another caution would come out when Jason Hahne would stop in turn 2. Aikey, Guss and Johnson still remained the top 3 on the restart and Aikey and Guss would begin to do battle. The next caution would come out on lap 23 when Andy Eckrich would stop in turn 2. Aikey would still hold Guss to the back bumper, the final race caution came out on lap 37 when DeFrance would have a left rear tire go flat and he tried to get off the race track but failed to do so.

Aikey still took command and lead the final 13 laps that went caution free and kept Guss on his back bumper. Aikey takes the win, Guss took 2nd. Mark Burgtorf after the early race mishap would come back up and finish 3rd. Johnson would fall back to 4th. Hard Charger Terry Neal would move up 14 spots to finish 5th. Tyler Bruening, Eckrich, Boone McLaughlin, Matt Strassheim and Tom Darbyshire would round out the top 10.

Cliff Chamber Memorial This Friday at the Marshalltown Speedway

Friday Night will be the Annual Cliff Chamber Memorial at the Marshalltown Speedway. It honors the former promoter and local businessman who pasted away March 1st of 1989.

As Promotor Toby Kruse said in 2008 “This is a real tribute to Cliff from his racing family, to carry on this yearly tradition, to many competitors, this is the night to win, to get their name in the record book and will always be remembered as a past winner”.

Since 2002, only won driver has one it 3 times and that is "Jammin" Jimmy Gustin as he has won the Modified feature in 2004, 2007 and 2009.

In the divisions that race currently at Marshalltown since 2002, 5 drivers have won it twice and they include Dustin Smith, Mike Morrill, Donavon Smith, Jeff Schroyer and Steve Meyer.

Also another note during the Cliff Chambers Memorial since 2002, Brothers David Brown and Rick Brown won in 2003 in the Modifieds and Stock Cars making it a family affair in victory lane.

Cold Action Packed Night at the Marshalltown Speedway

On a night that temperatures felt like winter, the action was packed and filled at the Marshalltown Speedway. As drivers and fans had to deal with strong west northwest winds through out the entire night.

First up on the night was the make-up features that would be followed by the nights heat races and features. Because of the make-up features the races started 15 minutes earlier than normal.

The Meskwaki Bingo Casino IMCA Modifieds would be up first as their feature was halted with 3 laps in the books last week when mother nature took it away, the feature would see 19 of the 24 cars take the green flag again with Joel Bushore leading the way. Cars not making the call was Denny Rosenberg, Scott Simatovich, Rod Clement, Josh Gilman and Kyle Krampe. Bushore would lead them back to the green with Luke Wanninger, Jimmy Gustin, Mike O'Lear and Adam Larson on his back bumper rounding out the top 5. Shortly after the feature went green, Luke Wanninger would quickly take over the lead from Bushore. 2 more cautions would fly one on lap 10 whn Andrew Kinser would go off the top of turn 2 and then another one 3 laps later for debris in turn 3 when Rick Speck lost his roof. Meanwhile Richie & Jimmy Gustin tried to catched up to the two young guns but there mission would fail as Wanninger would take the win, Bushore would take 2nd. Richie Gustin would get 3rd with Jimmy in 4th. Mike O'Lear would finish in 5th.

Next up was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks for their 12 lap feature that mother nature rained out from the week before. Clint Nelson would lead the first 3 laps but Matt Hudespeth would take the lead on lap 4. 2 Cautions would fly 1 lap later, first for John Clemens coming to a stop on the run off road and then next for Adam Rickett in turn 2. Hudespeth would continue to lead it meanwhile Devin Smith was charging to the front in his #81 machine. Smith would make the pass on Hudespeth for the lead, Michael Murphy would follow suit for 2nd. Smith would take the win, Murphy would get 2nd, Hudespeth was 3rd, Josh Saunders and Mike Vibbard rounded out the top 5.

It was then time for all of the heat races and once they were completed it was time for feature events and because of the cold weather conditions outside it was decided to keep the program moving right along.

In the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites 12 lap feature. The feature would have 2 yellows before 1 lap was in the books, the first one was for 5 cars spinning out in turn 2 and then for Travis Stensland coming to a stop in turn 2. Randy Bryan took the lead but couldn't hold of Mike Morrill. There was one more caution on lap 5 for Stensland again this time for coming to a stop on the run off road. Morrill took the win, Josh May was 2nd, Eric Hendrickson was 3rd, Bryan took 4th and Tim Hennigar was 5th.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were up next and for the first time this year no b-feature was required to get the field down as all 27 cars would go to the feature. Gatlin Leytham would take the early lead but would see 3 yellows come out before the halfway point. The first 2 came on lap 3, the first one was for Adam Shelman spinning on the front stretch and Neil Follett on the backstretch and then the second one was for Scott Davis in turn 2. The next caution came out on lap 6 when Lauren Vis spun in turn 2 and Shawn Simatovich and Eric Elliott in turn 4. Leytham still continued to lead but on the restart he would be passed by Brett Moffitt. Moffitt would continue to lead through 2 more cautions. First caution on lap 10 when Richie Gustin spun in turn 2 and then on lap 12 when Cody Moore spun out in turn 2. Moffitt would go on and cross the line first as Cayden Carter was trying to catch up to him but he couldnt do it.

However in post race tech inspection, Moffitt was disqualifed for an illegal carb spacer so that would hand the win over to the 14 year old young gun Cayden Carter for Oskaloosa. Jake Strayer would move up to 2nd after Moffitt's disqualification. Geoff Olson, Scott Davis and Eric Flander rounded out the top 5.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars saw veterans Tommy Thompson and Rick Brown battling for the top spot. Thompson would take the lead but would see the yellow come out twice on lap 2, first time for Tracy Gienger in turn 4 and then second time for Nathan Wood for spinning on the front stretch. Thompson would continue to lead only to see another caution come out on lap 6 when Seth Bowen would stop in turn 2. On the restart Thompson would lose the lead to Travis Shipman. Shipman would continue to lead through the final race caution on lap 13 for Wood stopping on the run off road. Shipman would go on and take the win, Trent Murphy would take 2nd, Michael Jeannette was 3rd, Thompson would fall back to 4th, Dustin Smith would get 5th meanwhile Rick Brown would end up finishing 13th.

Up Next was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feautre. Before 1 lap was complete their would be a yellow flag and a red flag. In the first incident, Jacob Waterman, Brett Ladheoff, Adam Larson, Jay Schmidt and Richie Gustin would get together in turn 1. On the restart, the red flag would come out as the #01 of Joey Galloway from Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada would take a roll on the frontstretch (Some pictures of the wreck car are posted below. He was able to climb from the car, the other canadian Derrick Bigeagel from Manor, Saskwetchen, Canada did make the call for the race because of electrical problems. 2 more cautions would come out, 1 on lap 2 for mulitple cars spinning in turn 1 & 2 and then again for Daniel Hilsabeck in 1 & 2. Jimmy Gustin would go on and take the win, Make-Up Feature Winner Luke Wanninger would take 2nd, David Brown would take 3rd, Todd Conrad was 4th and Ronn Laurtizen was 5th.

The Final Feature of the night was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap features as this feature went green to checkered. Tyler Pickett would lead the race from start to finish as Calvin Dhondt was 2nd. Todd Reitzler, Mike Vibbard and Devin Smith would round out the top 5.

The track was definitely not kind to the drivers as a lot of shit was getting tore up. Meanwhile the fans had to take on the cold weather. Next Friday Night will be the Annual UAW 893 Cliff Chamber Memorial Night at the Races. Pits Open at 5:15, Grandstands open at 5:30, Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing at 7:30p.

Hennigar, Carter, Murphy Win Before The Rain Comes At Marshalltown

While other tracks cancelled in iowa because of the rain they received the Marshalltown Speedway went ahead with a normal friday night of racing despite the rain. The track was rough in some spots but it brought a great night of racing before the rain came again.

The first feature of the night was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites, Joel Huggins lead most of the race but was passed by Tim Hennigar on the last lap. A couple of cautions slowed Huggins and Hennigar and they were on lap 2 when Cory Sonner spun in turn 4 and then on lap 5 when Colby Oberemebt spun in turn 2. Hennigar would take the win, Huggins would also get passed by Mike Morrill on the last lap for 2nd. Behind Hennigar, Morrill, Huggins was Josh May, who wrecked his car in the heat race but was able to get it fixed and his dad James May ended up in 5th.

Next feature up was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods, had 38 cars signed in so it took 4 heats and 2 b-features to dwindle the field down to 24 cars. Shawn Hunter lead the first few laps before a caution came out on lap 3 when Brad Iverson and Shawn Simatovich got together in turn 2. On the restart, Hunter would be passed by Cayden Carter. The final caution would come out on lap 6 when Matt Lettow, Fred Leytham and Scott Durlin get together in turn 1 & 2. Just after the yellow came out a big pile up would happen in turn 4, Chad Louk, Geoff Olson, Bill Hildreth and Ryan Engelkes were all involved. Carter would go on to the victory, Point Leader Eric Elliott would moved up to finish 2nd, Jake Strayer was 3rd, Scott Davis was 4th and Shawn Hunter was 5th.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars were up next for their feature. Clay Deppe lead the first 3 laps but a caution came out on lap 1 when Travis Shipman would have a flat tire and come to a stop in turn 2. Deppe would be passed by Michael Jeannette on lap 3. Jeannette thought he was pulling away but he would be passed by Trent Murphy and Dustin Smith on lap 11. Murphy would cruise to the victory, Smith would get 2nd, Jeannette would get 3rd, Deppe would take 4th and Damon Murty would end up in 5th.

The next feature on the track was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds but just as the feature was set to begin the rain came, 3 laps were completed with Joel Bushore leading but the red flag came out for rain which then resulted in the end of the show.

Next Friday night will begin earlier than normal hot laps will be at 6:40 pm and racing will begin at 7:15 pm with the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modified feature and Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stock feature and then a whole complete show to follow. Next friday night will be Old Timer Lounge Night at the Races!
