A Cold Night Produced Hot and Heavy Racing All Night on Appliance Plus Night in Indee

With all the rain Iowa received it seemed to be rather likely that nobody would get racing in as I was trying to keep up with all the cancellations for the Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page. That looked to be trending that way as the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway cancelled on Friday and then my original plan for Saturday, the Warren County Speedway in Indianola fell to the same fate. After discussion the decision was to go somewhere this week and quick to find out Independence was good to go so decided to make the 85 mile one way trip for some Saturday night racing.

It was a cold brisk Saturday April Evening and because of that Indee decided to move the start time up 90 minutes. Hot Laps normally are at 6:30p but they moved them up to 5p to get the racing done before it gets too cold again. Hats off to Mike Van Genderen and Dana Benning for being able to get racing in this week and kudos to the track prep team making the race track even better than the week before.

One hundred and twenty one cars signed on Saturday night for Appliance Plus "Your Phone Connection" Night at the Independence Motor Speedway. Temperatures may have ranged from the lower 40s to upper 40s but the racing action on the track was hot and heavy from the drop of the green flag at 5:20p until the final checkered flag was displayed at 8:52p.

The first feature of the night was the Performance Bodies & Parts IMCA Hobby Stocks 16-lap feature event. Bradly Graham out-wrestled Garrett Ball for the race lead on lap one. The first caution of the race came out just before a second lap was scored in the books when Garrett Ball spun in turns 3 and 4 as Jacob Floyd hit an infield tire. Graham held off Shawn Kuennen and Tyler Ball on the restart. The caution came out again on lap four when Dalton Weepie and Zach McNeese got together on the front stretch. Graham remained strong, but the cautions were waived again two laps later when McKenna Koch spun and Adam Streeter had nowhere to go to make contact. The final race caution came out on lap 7 for Justin Wacha going off the top of turn two. Bradly Graham remained strong and went on to take the feature win ahead of Kuennen, thirteenth-place starter Dave McCalla, Quinton Miller, and Brad Graham.

After the initial start was called off in the Scott Webb Concrete Super Late Models 20-lap feature, Brandon Davis jumped out to the race lead. Davis had to fend off several challenges from Sean Johnson before pulling away slightly until caution on lap nine. The caution on lap nine was for Davis spinning in turn two, which gave the lead over to Johnson. Later on lap 12, another caution came out when Ron Klein took a right-hand turn towards the fence off the back stretch. Johnson led until lap 16, when "Dilly Dilly" Dylan Thornton took the top spot away in the Kay Motorsports hot rod. Thornton went on to take the feature win. Jeff Aikey got by Johnson for second, Johnson settled in third, Logan Duffy was fourth, and Sam Halstead came home in fifth.

Christie Door Company IMCA Stock Cars were next on the speedway for their 20-lap feature event. Colt Mather jumped out to the race lead and was followed by John Oliver Jr. most of the distance, while they were racing two and three wide through out the field. Mather pulled away and appeared to be cruising on to the easy win until lap traffic got heavy in front, allowing Oliver, Kaden Reynolds, and eleventh-place starter Damon Murty to reel him back down. Mather finally got by the lap car and started to pull away again, only to see the only caution come out on lap 18 for Andrew Burk sliding off turn three. Mather held off everyone on the restart to go on and claim the victory. Oliver, Reynolds, Murty, and fifteenth-place starter Tom Schmitt rounded out the top five.

Jason Morehouse led the first two laps of the Waterloo Auto Parts IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature event. Kolton Osborn took the top spot away on lap three, but his lead was also short-lived as Brennen Chipp took the top spot away on lap seven. Chipp pulled away until the only caution on lap ten was Adam Robinson slowing on the front stretch. Chipp received challenges from Troy Cordes and Jeremy Mills but would go on to claim the checkers. Cordes came home second, Mills in third, tenth-place starter Dallon Murty in fourth, and Osborn in fifth.

Wyatt Medlin led the opening two laps, but just as they were coming to complete lap three, he spun in turn four to bring out the caution in the Outlaw Mini Mods 15-lap feature. Ben Kraus inherited the race lead on the restart, and he held on to that spot until a caution came out on lap 11 for Hayden Glover spinning on top of turn two. Ben Mattick took the top spot away from Kraus on the restart, but a caution came out again on lap 12 when Dalton Faber came to a stop on the bottom of the back stretch. Mattick held off Kraus on the restart to go on to take the feature win; Kraus came home second. Medlin worked his way back to finish third, with Bobby Ruehlow in fourth and Nick Hauge in fifth.

Jaice Tuttle led the first lap of the CC's Floors & More IMCA Sport Compacts 14-lap feature event. Cristian Grady took the top spot away temporarily, and Ryan Bryant took the race lead away on lap five. Bryant, Grady, and Tuttle continued to battle for the lead. Grady regained the top spot on lap nine and started to pull away. Grady took the feature win ahead of Bryant, Tuttle, Jay Crabill, and Chris Pittman.

The final feature of the night was Wolfey's and Eddie's IMCA Sport Mods 18-lap feature event. "TO" Tony Olson jumped to the race lead, fending off early pressure from Rayce Mullen, before cruising away. Olson looked to be heading on to the easy win until a caution on lap 13 for Cole Suckow off turn two and then on lap 15 for Tyler Soppe went off the back stretch. Olson remained strong and took the feature win. Mullen came home in second, Soppe in third, Brandon Tharp in fourth, and Suckow in fifth. Suckow initially came across in third but was placed behind Tharp after forcing Tharp off the race track.

Racing action continues next week at the Independence Motor Speedway featuring the Pro Late Model Tour making their first appearance of the season, Outlaw Mini Mods return for a Black Iron Manufacturing Outlaw Mini Mod Series race and IMCA Sport Compacts will have their Tribute to Michael Pittman. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks join the fun with weekly racing action. Hot Laps at 6:30p, Racing to Follow.

Stewart, Schott, Crimmins, Griffith, Hovden and Monson Takes Hamilton County Ice Breaker Victories

Last fall before the Fall Special the historic Hamilton County Speedway was shorten up just a bit, however I was unable to attend then so on Saturday Night, I decided to make the trip up from Marshalltown to attend the Ice Breaker Season Opener at the Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC Hamilton County Speedway.

I was very impressive with the improvements on the race track but also the Hamilton County Fairboard making some much needed improvements to the Grandstands and I say a job well done, even though I hang out in the pits all night.

The racing action was heated all night long, going two and some times three wide, the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars putting on the best show of the night. This season also marks the final season of TTMM Promotions so you know that Todd Staley will always have some things up his sleeve. A total of eighty-two cars signed in for the first night in Webster City and the final checkered flag was displayed at 10:01pm.

First feature of the night was the A1 Automotive USRA Tuners ten lap feature event. Correctionville, Iowa's Levi Volkert lead the first lap but Oliver Monson worked his way from fifth and took over the top spot on lap two. Monson never looked back cruising on to take the feature win. Wall Lake's Jake Paysen passed Volkert for second on lap four and tried to chase down Monson ended up second. Volkert in third, Britt's Charles Prime in fourth and Castalia's Brad Stahl was fifth.

The Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature even had a little trouble getting started as the caution came out for Riley Crimmins, Scott Dobel and Jonathon Hynes got together in turn two. On the restart, Chris Hovden from Cresco jumped out to the race lead and tried to pull way but was unsuccessfully because cautions came out on lap three, four, eight and twelve. Hovden remain strong and took the checkers first. South Dakota's Dustin Gulbrandson was second, Bryce Sommerfeld from Fort Dodge in third, Clear Lake's Joshua Monson in fourth and Manly's Zac Smith in fifth.

Before a lap was scored in the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 16 lap feature event, the caution came out when Minnesota's Jayden Oskerson spun in turn two. Defending track Champion Ty Griffith started third but by the end of lap one, he was the captain of the ship. Griffith checked out until the caution came out on lap eight and the following two restarts. Griffith held off Decorah's Dan Hovden and Webster City's Doug McCollough off when the race resumed, Griffith pulled away and went on to take the feature event. McCollough, Hovden, Protivin's Ben Moudry, who started tenth, and Webster City's Bryer McCoy rounded out the top five.

Next up was the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. "A-Train" Al Hejna from Clear Lake led the first two laps before Chatfield, Minnesota's Luke Schott took the top spot away. Schott pulled away until a caution came out on lap 14 for Andy Tiernan in turn two. Schott got a great restart and went on to take the win, the battle behind him lasted through out the event. Madrid's Kyle Brown was second, Minnesota's Alex Williamson was third, "Z-Man" Zack Vanderbeek from New Sharon in fourth and Nebraska's Jacob Hobscheidt in fifth.

Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event put many on the edge of their seat as they were racing two and three wide for position the entire race. Eagle Grove's Parker Slagle led the first four laps but it was not easy has he had several challenges and there was several challenges for positions behind him as well. Mason City's Travis Shipman took the  top spot away just prior to a caution on lap five when Slagle slid off the top of turn three. Shipman led until lap eight when "The Renegade" Reid Keller took the top spot away. Keller worked the top side and Fort Dodge's Bill Crimmins worked his way in to second using the bottom side. Crimmins started to put pressure on Keller prior to the final race caution on lap 13. Crimmins managed to get by Keller on lap 15 and would go on to take the feature win. Keller, Fort Atkinson's Jackson Vsetecka, twelfth place starter Justin Ades and Paul Conrad rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Jerry Goebel State Farm Super Late Models 20 lap feature event. Omaha, Nebraska's Corey Zeitner started on the pole and he took full advantage leading the first three laps. Ainsworth's Derrick Stewart looked strong and took the lead away on lap four and fend off Zeitner before pulling away. Stewart claimed the checkers ahead of Zeitner, Sherrill's Jeff Tharp, "Hollywood" Jason Hahne and Griswold's JC Wyman.

Next week the Karl Chevrolet Buick GMC Hamilton County Speedway hosts the Malvern Bank SLMR Late Models East Series Opener. USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners round out the card. Pits Open at 4p, Grandstands at 5p, Hot Laps at 6:15p, Racing to Follow.

Marshalltown Roared to Life with the H&H Tiling, Dozing & Excavating IMCA Frostbuster 505 Spectacular

Friday Night the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway roared to life wit the H&H Tiling, Dozing & Excavating IMCA Frostbuster 505 Specatcular. The weather may have been a little on the chilly side but then again that is expected since its early April but the racing action was heated all night long, as fans put on more layers. Thanks to all the viewers who watch at home on FloRacing (our normal streaming partner) and IMCA.tv.

If you have Tiling, Dozing, Excavating, tree removal, land clearing, waterways, creek crossings, silt fencing, yard grading and clean up give Racer Hulin and H&H Tiling, Dozing & Excavating of Laurel a call at 641-691-9505.

A total of two hundred and twelve cars signed in to tame the high banked quarter mile dirt oval located on the Central Iowa Fairgrounds and the cars and pits was all the way back out to Olive street that is how full the pits was last night. Racing action was fantastic and they were racing two, three and four wide through out the night. Final Checkered flag was waived at 12:34am.

First feature of the night was the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 30 lap feature event. A total of 45 entries was dwindled down to 24 for the feature. "Jammin'" Jimmy Gustin grabbed the race lead on the start from the outside front row. On lap four, "The Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty took over the top spot away and never looked back leading the remaining laps to claim the victory in the only feature that went green-to-checkered. Dallon Murty worked his way from tenth to finish second. Gustin was third, Kelly Shryock came home in fourth and Garrett Corn in fifth.

Before a single lap was completed in the Ruggeds Radios IMCA Sport Mods 25 lap feature event, the caution came out when Camdan Vincent, Wes Digman, Rayce Mullen and Josalyn Elmquist spun in turn one. Drake Bohlmeyer from Beatrice, Nebraska took the top spot early but it was not long before "Speedy Bray" Brayton Carter worked his way from seventh to taking the lead away on lap five. Carter remained strong and cruised on to the easy win despite cautions on lap nine and twenty. Slayton, Minnesota's Brayden Ahlers came home second. Tony Olson finished third and Dorchester, Nebraska's Tyler Nerud started fourteenth came home in fourth and Bohlmeyer was fifth. Thirty-eight IMCA Stock Cars was in attendance.

IMCA Friesen Performance Modifieds presented by Tire Demon by Love Tap was up next on to the speedway for their 30 lap feature event after the field of thirty-five was dwindle down to twenty-four. After the initial start saw a caution when Tim Ward and Todd Shute got together in turn one, Tom Berry Jr started outside the front row but grabbed the race lead and checked out from the rest of the field, only thing slowing him down was the cautions on laps twelve, thirteen and fourteen. Berry was went on to take the dominating win ahead of eighth place starter Ethan Braaksma, Jake McBirnie, eleventh place starter Dylan Thornton and fourteenth place starter Tripp Gaylord.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw fifty-six cars sign in so it took six heats and three b-features to trim the field down to twenty-four for the 20 lap feature event. "Flyin' Fireman" Calvin Dhondt started on the pole and jumped to the lead but that all ended on lap seven when he spun in turn two. Joren Fisher inherited the lead when the race went back green but that was short lived as Bradly Graham took the lead away on lap nine. Graham started to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap eighteen when Curt Reed and Eric Knutson got hooked together and there was a long delay to get them unhooked. Graham held on through the green-white-checkered finish to claim the feature win. Beatrice, Nebraska Dillon Richards worked his way from fifteenth to finish second. Twelfth place starter Seth Butler was third, Joe Doran was fourth and David McCalla in fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Hy-Vee of Marshalltown IMCA Mach-1 Sport Compacts 15 lap feature event. The feature saw the red flag come out on the first lap when Curtis Masterson rolled it off the backstretch over the berm, he was not injured. Oliver Monson grabbed the lead when the race finally got rolling but received several pressure from behind. The race went caution free the remainder distance but it was not Monson taking the win it was Mitchell Bunch, who worked his away by Monson on lap ten. Bunch took the win, Monson was second. Omaha, Nebraska's Anthony Clark, eighth place starter Cristian Grady and Jake Paysen rounded out the top five.

Marshalltown Speedway will return in action with the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair King of the High Banks on Thursday and Friday April 11th and 12th.
