Reynolds Dominates Inaugural King of the Kat Walks

With Independence cancelling because of heavy rain that fell late Friday and early Saturday, it meant I had a free night to go racing so my options was the Inaugural King of the Kat Walks in Boone or the Stealth Oilwell Services USRA Shootout at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City. After much debate I decided to go to Boone for racing action and after getting ready I headed to Team 3W Racing Shop to finish getting the car ready for Tom Berry Jr to drive.

The Inaugural King of the Kat Walks presented by Fox Welding / Vermeer and Van Eaton Pork featuring the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars running for the top prize of $2,500 to win and $250 to start. Winner would also be eligible to qualify for the B&B Chassis All-Star Invitational. Fifty-seven Stock Cars checked into Iowa's Action Track.

A total of Two hundred and two cars signed in the pit gate to tame the 1/3 mile race track. Outlaw Mini Mod Series powered by Drury Automotive & Truck Repair also made a visit to the speedway for night 4 of 5 during the Summer Nationals Tour. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Mod Lites all completed the card. The first heat race went green at 6p and the final checkered flag was around 10:45pm.

First feature of the night was the MyRacePass IMCA Star Mod Lites 15 lap feature event. Austin Gray grabbed the early race lead managed to lead all 15 laps to take the win. Tenth place starter Randy Bryan came home second, Joel Huggins was third, Bryan Zehm was fourth and Jon Braathun was fifth.

David Hoover took the early lead in the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature event but shortly after lap one scored the caution came out. The caution was for Cody Yaw in turn four, Brett Thomas and Colton Nelson spun in turn two as well. Hoover held off Matt Ruf and Jessiah Taylor on the restart and led until a caution on lap seven. The caution was for Kaylin Lopez, Nelson, Bryan Morris and Zach Hovell in turn four. Cole Fenske wrestled the lead away from Hoover and the restart. Fenske went on to take the feature win ahead of fifteenth place starter Taylor Kuehl, Danny Fye, twelfth place starter Jake Sachau and Robert Stofer.

Up next on the speedway was the D&E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds for their 20 lap feature event. Chase Rudolf flexed his muscles taking the top spot early, fending off Brandon Leeman and Jacob Murray. Rudolf looked to be heading on the easy win but the caution came out on lap ten when Murray spun in turn four. Rudolf continued to show his strength going on to take the feature win. Russ Dickerson came home second, Mike Van Genderen took third, Ronn Lauritzen was fourth and Leeman finished fifth.

Outlaw Mini Mods had a little trouble getting the first lap in because Lucas Daniels spun in turn two along with Matthew Grobe. Kamdyn Haggard took the race lead went the race got start but the caution came out again on lap three and four. Lap three caution was for Zachary Dunham, Sierra Rose Gary and Nate Olmstead in turn four. Lap four caution was for Dunham in turn two and TJ Findlow in turn four. Haggard held off Nathan Kilwine after the lap three caution but was unable to do after the lap four caution. Kilwine took the race lead and pulled away going on take the feature win. Ben Kraus got by Haggard for second. Haggard finished third, Dalton Faber was fourth and Bobby Daniels was fifth.

Jake McBirnie and Kaden Reynolds led the field to green in the Inaugural King of the Kat Walks presented by Fox Welding/Vermeer and VanEaton Pork 31 lap feature for the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars. McBirnie led the first lap before Reynolds took the top spot away. Reynolds pulled away and cruised to the easy victory. McBirnie exited to the infield what appeared to be overheating issues as did many of the other heavy hitters. Jeff Mueller, Damon Murty, Devin Smith and Travis Parker rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event. Aron Fye led the first two laps before Chad Rigby took the lead away on lap three. Rigby was followed by Mike Smith but Rigby continued to lead. The caution came out on lap nine for debris in turn three. Rigby again held off challenges from Smith until a race caution lap fourteen when Daniel Pittman spun in turn four. That forced a green-white-checkered restart, Rigby held off Smith to the white flag but Smith outdueled Rigby on the last lap to take the win by the margin of 0.064 seconds. Wayne Gifford, John Watson and Tanner Jones rounded out the top five.

Murty, Bryan and Kilwine Among Winners on Drury Automotive Night in Motown

If you looked at the weather forecast on Thursday night and Friday morning, many questioned if anybody was racing on Friday night well many were proved wrong. Racing action roar to action on the high banks of Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway for the final Friday night of racing action in the month of June.

Friday Night was Drury Automotive & Truck Repair from Eldora Night at the Races. Extra money on the line in the IMCA Stock Cars making it $1,000 to win on Friday, Outlaw Mini Mods was on hand for their third night of five races this week. IMCA Mod Lites had anonymous sponsor donate money to their purse to make them $350 to win.

One hundred sixteen cars checked in to tame the quarter mile dirt oval. The race track created a few lanes to make it racy and they manage to go two and three wide through out the night.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Star Mod Lites 15 lap feature event, Joe Glick and Austin Gray led the field to the green flag however neither of them would lead the first lap as fifth place starter Randy Bryan grabbed the lead. Bryan fended off Glick and then Joel Huggins before getting a little separation. Jon Padilla reeled Bryan in late but could not get back around. Bryan went on to take his third win in Motown. Padilla finished second, Huggins was third, Glick was fourth and Ben George was fifth.

Drury Automotive & Truck Repair Outlaw Mini Mod Series 15 lap feature was up next onto the speedway. Before a single lap was completed the caution came out when Gale Worthington and Brett Orr spun in turn two. Michael Bryant grabbed the lead on the restart and held off Troy Ihrke until another caution came out on lap four when Spencer Nelson came to a stop in turn three. Bryant got a great restart and held Ihrke and Bobby Daniels, looking to head to the win until three to go. The caution came out on lap 12 when Sierra Rose Gray spun in turn two and then again on the restart for Liam Jackson in turn four. Nathan Kilwine, worked his way from eighth to third and would get by Bryant and Ihrke to take the race lead. Kilwine went on to take the feature win ahead of Ihrke, who got by Bryant for second. Bryant, Ben Kraus and Daniels rounded out the top five.

Braden Richards looked like a younger Hot Rod as he jumped out to the early lead of the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature. The caution came out just as the field was getting ready to complete lap two when Curt Smeins spun in turn three. Richards continued to lead until lap seven, when the caution came out for Jessiah Taylor spinning exiting turn two. Sam Wieben took the top spot away from Richards on the restart but the caution came out again on lap ten when Ryan King came to a stop in turn two. Wieben got a great restart and cruised on to take the feature win ahead of Kaylin Lopez, Tony Olson, Kyle Olson and Travis Peterson.

Sam West led the first lap of the IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event before Darin DeZwarte took the lead away on lap two. West took the lead back on lap four but again it was short lived as Solomon Bennett took the lead away on lap five. West reclaimed it on lap six before tenth place starter Bradly Graham grabbed the top spot away on lap nine. Graham pulled away and looked to be heading on to take the easy win but the cautions came out on lap seventeen and eighteen. Lap 17, Bennett came to a stop in turn four and then on the restart West slipped of the top of turn one and two resulting in premature yellow. Lap 18 saw DeZwarte spin in turn two and then on restart Kaitlyn Schuring spun in turn two. Graham held on to take his first win in Motown this season. Seth Butler finished second, William Klosterman was third, Jeremiah Andrews was fourth and Scott Ellis came home with his best finish of the season in fifth.

Next up on the speedway was the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event, Scott Simatovich lead the first lap before a caution came out when Gat Leytham spun exiting turn four. Simatovich continued to lead until lap four when Joel Rust took the lead away. Rust pulled away and only thing slowing him down was lap traffic late which allowed Jimmy Gustin to reel him down. Rust went on to take his third feature win of the season in Motown ahead of Gustin, Tim Ward, Dustin Kroening and Ethan Braaksma.

Final feature of the night was the Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event. Austin Kaplan wrestled the lead early from pole sitter Aaron Spangler. The caution came out shortly after lap one scored when Josh Capalla spun in turn two. Kaplan held of Spangler and Michael Jaennette on the restart. The caution came out again on lap five when Jeff Byers spun in turn three and with the caution already out Joel Rust spun in turn two. On the restart, Infield tire exiting turn four was knocked out onto the racing surface. Kaplan held on to the lead until the father and son combo, Damon and Dallon Murty began to challenge for the top spot. Damon Murty made the move and took the race lead away on lap 12, Dallon Murty took second away from Kaplan on lap 18. Damon Murty went on to take the win with son Dallon Murty, in a brand new car coming home second. Kaplan finished third, Kaden Reynolds was fourth and Jaennette was fifth.

Next Friday the month of July kicks off on Friday July 1st with IMCA Weekly Racing at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway. IMCA Sport Compacts return to the speedway along with the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds, Drury Automotive & Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars, Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Mod Lites. Independence, Iowa (June 4th, 2022) - Mother Nature tried to prevent the Independence Motor Speedway officials from having races on Fahr Beverage Mid-Season Championships Night at the races but failed as the speedway went ahead with racing. The light showers that did fell helped produced a fantastic racing surface all night.

Eighty-nine cars checked in the pit gate to tame the 3/8 mile banked dirt oval and they went two, three and four wide several times through out the night. The dedicated racing fans that came out was not disappointed despite it being a little chilly and cloudy all night. Final checkered flag was displayed at 9:05pm.

First feature of the night was the Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event. Tony Olson started fifth but by the end of lap one, he found himself in the race lead. Olson continued to lead only to see one more caution come out on lap 13 for Corey Scott in turn four. Olson went on to take his third win in Indee and admitted that his clutch went out halfway through the feature. Siems finished second, Kyle Olson was third, Suckow was fourth and Tharp was fifth.

Before a single lap was scored in the Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature, the caution was out when Rick Fasse spun in turn two forcing a chain reaction. When the racing got rolling it was Riley Hanson jumping out the race lead fending off Tom Schmitt. Kaden Reynolds entered the mix of Hanson and Schmitt to make it a three car battle, going three wide a couple of times with Hanson still holding strong. Reynolds got by Schmitt on lap six and then three laps later on lap nine by Hanson for the race lead. Reynolds went on to take the feature win. Hanson, Schmitt, Jarod Weepie and Cole Mather rounded out the top five.

Skyler Dugan led the first two laps of the Waterloo Auto Parts Indee Cars 12 lap feature event. Skyler Dugan, Chad Dugan and Kolton Osborn had intense three wide battle for the top spot with Chad Dugan taking over the race lead on lap three. Chad Dugan went on to take his second of the season in Indee. Kolton Osborn beat Skyler Dugan for second by a nose at the line, Skyler Dugan was third. Matt Dugan was fourth and Dale Schwamman was fifth.

Korey Lana finally got the monkey off his back in the Waterloo Auto Parts Sport Compacts 12 lap feature as he led from start-to-finish to take the feature win. Justin Hempstead ran second until the white flag as Blake Driscol was able to capture second. Hempstead was third, Colton Stewart was fourth and Spencer Roggentien was fifth.

Up next was the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. Mike Burbridge grabbed the race lead early and look to pull away but Chris Snyder reeled him back in and took the race lead away on lap eight. Snyder lead until ninth place starter Drew Janssen worked his way through the field. Janssen use the top side to his advantage to take over the race lead with two to go. Janssen went on to take the feature win. Snyder, Burbridge, Ryan Maitland and Keith Pittman round out the top five.

Luke Bird out wrestled Tyler Ball to lead lap one in the Albert Auto IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event. The caution came out shortly after when Jim Ball Jr, Brett Vanous, Dalton Weepie, Trenton Neuhaus, Daniel Wauters and Shawn Kuennen all got together in turn two. Bird got a great restart and held off Tyler Ball, Andrew Burk and then late Vanous, who worked his way back through. On this night, Bird was determined to not be denied the win. Vanous was second, Burk was third, Wauters came back to finish fourth and Jim Ball Jr was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Dunlap Motors IMCA Late Models 20 lap feature event. Jerod Ballhagen led the first lap before recent Independence High School Graduate Logan Duffy took over the race lead on lap two. Duffy was followed by Sean Johnson but was able to fend off all challenges from Johnson. Duffy went on to claim his first win of the season in the Travis Smock number 98 car.
