Tesch Wins Rain Shorten Dirt Madness at Marshalltown

Well it seems like i start every blog i start by saying mother nature always seems to leave us in question on if we were going to race or not. Despite a morning rain shower the choice was made that we would go racing but with weather expect to target the race track at about 10 pm so they decide to move the USMTS feature up in the order of events.

Before racing action began the Dennis Wayne Gang Band was performing on the front stretch from 4:30-6:30p. Karsyn's Krusaders Fan Walk happened at 6p moved up from 6:15p so the drivers meeting could take place at 6:15p and then it was time for hot laps at 6:30p. After all of that before the heat races would get under way, the national anthem was sang by 11 year old Savannah DeGroote. At 7 we started racing!

In the Mod Lite 12 lap feature, Mike Morrill would take control early but on lap 3 a caution would come out for Bobby Harris spinning in turn 4. Morrill would lead the field back to the green with Joel Huggins and Ivan Guerra on his back bumper. Morrill would continue to set the pace meanwhile Tim Hennigar was making his way by Guerra and then by Huggins. Hennigar and Morrill would begin to do battle on lap 8, Morrill would continue to hold him off but Hennigar would make the pass and take the win on lap 11. Morrill would finish 2nd, Huggins was 3rd, Guerra was 4th and Kennedy was 5th.

The Sport Mods/B-Mods were up next for 12 laps, Cayden Carter would take advantage of his outside front row starting spot and take the lead early but just after 1 lap was completed the yellow would come out for Cody Moore spinning off the backstretch. On the restart Carter would have Carter VanDenBerg and Matt Lettow on his back bumper. Carter and the field would get another lap completed when another caution happened for Brad Iverson and Bryan Rodman spininng in turn 2. Carter would again have Lettow and VanDenBerg on his back bumper. Carter would hold them off and go on and take the win. Danny Dvorak would get by Lettow and VanDenBerg for 2nd, Lettow was 3rd, VanDenBerg was 4th with Tyler Droste in 5th.

Up Next was the 40 lap USMTS feature, 31 cars signed in so 4 heats with the top 12 in passing points moving on and then 2 b-features with the top 6 in each of them would help dwindle the field down to 24 cars. Darin Duffy and Jon Tesch would draw the top 2 spots in the redraw. Darin Duffy of course was piloting one of the 2 Karsyn's Krusaders wraps. Darin Duffy would take the race lead from the start, Duffy would be on the bottom where the moisture was while Tesch would try to get the top side to come in but Duffy would begin to pull away and lead with his IMCA Modified car. The first race caution came out on lap 9 when Jeff Larson spun in turns 3 & 4. Duffy would have Tesch and Hughes on his back bumper on the restart but he again would hold them off until lap 17. On Lap 17, Duffy would have his motor expire bringing out the caution and this would hand the lead over to Tesch. On the restart, Tesch would have Rodney Sanders and Jason Hughes on his back bumper. Tesch would begin to pull away but then on lap 20 the red flag would come out when Mike Spaulding would roll his car in turn 1. While this was being cleaned up the rain came in and took the reminder of the race and being the factor the race was half-way it was official. Tesch wins, Point Leader Hughes was 2nd, Sanders was 3rd, Tommy Myer was 4th and Mark Elliott was 5th.

Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars 20 lap feature was cancelled all together and will not be made up as orginally announced all drivers were awarded 50 points. Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck 1o lap feature was rained out and will be made up as part of the Havoc on the High Banks, Dirt Trucks will be there on Night #2 on September 18th.

The USMTS was suppose to head to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Wednesday Night but too much rain made wet grounds causing the track to cancel. Up Next is the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison on Thursday before heading to the Land of 10,000 Lakes for the swing of events at Chateau Raceway in Lansing (MN) then Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley (MN) for the Labor Day Weekend Duel with the Corn Belt Clash Late Modelsbefore wrapping up the swing at the Dodge County Speedway in Kasson (MN). The Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars are also on the schedule for Allison.

If mother nature cooperates and i decide to go i will head to Oskaloosa and Allison for the races there.

We are back to racing at Marshalltown on Friday Night as it will be Larry Wollam Season Championship Night presented by North 3rd Ave Dairy Queen we will have out of the car introductions.

I also want to thank Toby Kruse, Todd Staley and the entire USMTS Staff for a great show. Also a big congrats goes out to all of the hard work Jessica Miller and the Gang from the Karsyn's Krusaders put into activites on the night i just wish mother nature would have cooperated!

Smith Wins Again, Snyder Sweeps and Gustin Gets First Career Win

Well for once mother nature would give us great weather and not even be in question. This night would bring a lot of racing action on the high banked quarter mile. We had a few added races on the the night the Mini Sprints and the Modified gambler race.

First out on the speedway for their feature was the Iowa Mini Sprint Series Mini Sprints for 12 lap. Before 1 lap was completed the caution would come out as one car rolled in turn 4. Russ Prather took the early race lead but he would hand over that lead to Ben Woods and the only thing slowing him down was lap traffic. Woods took the win, Prather was 2nd, Dan Beerends was 3rd, Dan Henning was 4th and Steven Gifford was 5th.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites were up next for 15 laps. Ivan Guerra would take the lead and lead the first 4 laps but then a yellow came out when Bobby Harris, Dusty Masolini and Colby Obermebt got together in turn 2. On the restart Guerra would have to deal with Mike Kennedy and Tim Hennigar. Kennedy would make the pass on Guerra and take the lead and cruise on to the victory despite challenges from Tim Hennigar, who got by Guerra as well. Kennedy goes on and take win #3 at Marshalltown this year, Hennigar was 2nd, Guerra was 3rd, 4th and 5th was Mike Morrill and Josh May.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods took 4 heats and 2 b-features to dwindle the field down to 24 cars for their 15 lap feature. Jayme Duinink would jump out to the early race lead only to see a caution come out on lap 1 when Ryan Ashton, Zack Rawlins and Neil Follett all get together in turn 2. Duinink would continue to hold the top spot but on lap 4 Jenae Gustin would make the pass on Duinink and take over the lead. Gustin would set her sights on the feature win, the only thing that slowed it was a debris caution on lap 13. Gustin would go on and take her first career IMCA Sport Mod Feature. Tyler Droste, Cayden Carter, Carter VanDenBerg and Scott Davis was 2nd through 5th.

Normally up next would be the IMCA Stock Cars but tonight the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds would come out for their 20 lap feature. Kyle Krampe would jump to the lead but just after 2 laps were completed their would 2 cautions, first caution was for Creston Williams in turn 2 and the second caution was for Rod Clement, Adam Larson, Dave Pries and Vern Jackson in turn 4. Krampe would continue to set the pace and continue to lead we would then see 2 more cautions come out on lap 5, first for Jimmy Gustin in turn 1 and then for debris on the front stretch. Krampe would still not let them faze him but he and the field would see another caution on lap 10 for Danny Fetters going off the top of turn 4. On the restart, it appeared that Luke Wanninger got a good start but he would be docked 2 spots next caution for jumping the start, Jon Snyder would get by Krampe on lap 15 and be the official leader. On lap 16, Brett Ladehoff, Jason Murray and Jay Schmidt would get together. Ladehoff walked away, Schmidt was okay but ended on the hook and Murray was taken out of the car and taken to the Marshalltown Medical Surgical Center for further observations, he was responsive with the medical staff though.

On the restart, Snyder would pull away and lead the final 4 laps and take his 2nd win of the season at Marshalltown. Mike O'Lear, Jimmy Gustin, Ronn Lauritzen and Luke Wanninger was 2nd through 5th.

Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks would take 3 heats and a b-feature to dwindle the field down to 24 cars. Clint Nelson would take the lead and never look back despite challenges by Scott Durlin and a caution on lap 4. The caution was for Russell Keefer spinning in turn 4. Nelson would go on and take his first win of the year, Durlin would get 2nd. Michael Murphy, Eric Knutson and Devin Smith was 3rd through 5th.

In the Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars, John Emerson would take the early race lead but Dave Atcher would quickly make it a battle and Emerson bobbled on lap 3 allowing Atcher to slip on by Emerson. Atcher would lead but then the first race caution came out on lap 5 when Robbie Merkle and Robert Engelkes spun in turn 3 & 4, Merkle kept going. On the restart, Atcher's attempt to hold of Dustin Smith would fail as Smith would pass Atcher on lap 6 and go on and take the win despite a caution on lap 14 for Donnie Boucher in turn 4. The win would be Smith's 6th win in a row and 8th win of the year at Marshalltown. Dave Atcher was 2nd, "Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty was 3rd, Trent Murphy was 4th and Mike Van Genderen was 5th.

The final event of the night was the Modified Gambler Race for 15 Laps. Kyle Krampe would lead the first lap but Jon Snyder would not be denied the sweep and pass Krampe on lap 2. Adam Larson would take 2nd, Mike Jergens was 3rd, Kyle Krampe was 4th and Josh Gilman was 5th.

Racing came to an end at 11:15p. Next week will be action packed as on Tuesday Night the USMTS come to town for Karsyn's Krusaders Dirt Madness at Marshalltown also racing is the Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars, Sport Mods (IMCA type rules), Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks and Mod Lites then its back to the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday for the Annual Larry Wollam Season Championship Night.

Mother Nature Wins at Marshalltown

It seems like you know its friday when the skies start sunny and then it gets cloudy, then it starts to rain. Some weeks we are still able to go racing but this week that was not the case as mother nature dropped moisture on us and it was too much for the clay oval could take.

We suppose to have Johnny Ray's Sports Bar Night plus Vintage Cars but mother nature won for only the 4th time this year, making the only month this year to not have a rain out is the month of May. The first rain out in the month of August since August 24th, 2007. The first rain out on the third friday of august since August 19th, 2005.

So with Friday being rained out we have only 2 track point nights left, next friday night August 27th with Custom Concrete Night at the Races plus the Caruth Construction Modified Gambler and also the Micro Mini Sprints joining the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Mod Lites for racing action on the high banked quarter mile ovall. Then its the North 3rd Ave Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championship Night on September 3rd.

In Between those races we have the USMTS coming back to Marshalltown for a race in their hunt of the championship on Tuesday Night August 31st with the Dart Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars also racing as will IMCA Sport Mods and the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks. Then after season championship night the track will sit idle for a week as it perpares for the 4th Annual Havoc on The High Banks on Friday and Saturday September 17th and 18th.

For more information about these races coming up at marshalltown check out the speedway's website at http://www.marshalltownspeedway.com/

Below the Points standings i have added some stats heading into the final 2 nights of track points.

Miller takes top honor at the Iowa State Fair

Well my day started at 6:15 in the morning with a wake up call to head down to the Iowa State Fair so i got up got around and was on the road by 6:45 and go there around 7:30 to walk around and have fun. I had fun walking through many buildings, see some free stage entertainment during the day and did so many things then at 4:30p it was time to head to the grandstands for the Deery Brothers Summer Series Iowa State Fair Special.

At 5:30p it was time for hot laps and then shortly after that a quick drivers meeting would take place and that would be followed up by the racing action.

First out on the speedway for features was the two IMCA Hobby Stock 14 lap features.

In Feature #1, Michael Peterson would lead the first 2 laps but he would lose the lead on lap 3 when Nick Murty would make the pass but Murty's lead would be short lived as Shannon Anderson would race side-by-side with Murty and take the lead. Shortly after the caution came out for Adam Bonnett spinning out in turn 4. On the restart, Anderson, Murty would have Eric Stanton and Justin Maschke right behind them. Anderson and Murty would race side-by-side throughout much of this race, Anderson would continue to lead laps 5 and 6, Murty would take the lead on laps 7 and 8 and then Anderson would take the lead back on lap 9, Murty would fall back a little bit. Murty wouldn't give up tho as he would get back up to Anderson and battle again for the lead on the final lap, Anderson was on the bottom and Murty was up on the top and Anderson came up and Murty made a little contact allowing him to take the lead, Anderson would lose momentum and this would allow Eric Stanton to make a move on Anderson and beat Anderson by a bumper. Murty, Stanton and Anderson was followed by Justin Maschke and Kenny Loftus.

In Feature #2, John Watson would jump out to the lead from his front row starting spot and not look back despite cautions just after the completion of lap 1 and another on lap 5 putting the field on his back bumper. The first caution was for Phillip Castellano, Larry Embrey, Devin Smith and Joe Murphy all getting together on the back stretch. The second caution was for Blake Miller spinning out in turn 2. Watson wouldn't let them faze him as he would go on and lead all of the laps in the 14 lap feature and take the win. Blain Peterson was 2nd, Steve Jones was 3rd, Ray Stock Jr was 4th and Jeremy Purdy was 5th.

Next up was the 35 lap Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models feature. It took 4 heats, 2 b-features and 3 provisionals to determine the field down to 25 cars from the 35 Late Models in the pits. "River City Hustler" Ray Guss Jr. would start on the pole and jump out to the lead and look to be pulling away but just after the completion of lap 1 the first caution came out for Jeff Guengerich spinning in turn 3 along with Ben Nading. On the restart, Guss would have Darren Miller and Jay Johnson on his back bumper. Miller would get a nice run and make the pass for the lead. Another race caution came out on lap 7 when Kevin Blum spun in turn 2. Miller would have Guss and Johnson but he was able to get a good start and start pulling away and would have to start dodging through lap traffic and this would allow Guss to get within 3 car lengths but after getting by those back markers, Miller would continue to pull away and get the lead up to a 3/4 straightaway lead and go on and take the win his first deery win in 9 years. Guss would have to do battle with Todd Cooney for 2nd in the end, Guss would win that battle. Finishing behind, Miller, Guss and Cooney was Tom Darbyshire and Jeremiah Hurst.

The IMCA Sport Mods came out for their 15 lap feature next, 25 cars signed in so all went to the feature. Jesse Sobbing would lead the first lap but shortly after a caution would come out when Michael Grantham spun in turn 2. Sobbing would have Kyle Brown on his back bumper but would be able to hold him off until another caution came out on lap 4 when Jamie Daughenbaugh spun in turns 3 and 4. "Downtown" Kyle Brown would make the pass on Sobbing and take over the top spot on lap 6. Just after Brown took the lead there was 2 cautions first for Sobbing and Grantham getting together in turn 4 and then for Tyler Gross breaking something in the rearend of his car as he came to a stop in turn 1 and then rain came.

So after about a 20 minute rain delay and a some track work we would resume the sport mod feature, Brown would lead them back to the green and he and the field would complete one more lap before the final race caution came on lap 7 when Cayden Carter spun in turn 3. Brown would continue to control the lead and be able to hold off challenges from Scott Davis, Beau Kaplan and Austin Kaplan. Brown took the win, Davis would be passed by Beau Kaplan for 2nd, Austin Kaplan would take 3rd and Jeremy Embrey came home in 5th.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks were next up for their 16 lap feature. Steve Churchill would lead the first 3 laps in the feature but Todd Inman would quickly his way up through the field from his 5th place starting position. Inman made the pass on Churchill on lap 4, Bret Moyer would follow suit. The first race caution came out on lap 7 when Brad Moyer spun in turn 2. On the restart, Inman would bobble this would allow Bret Moyer to battle for the lead. Inman's truck would push and allow Bret Moyer to make the pass on lap 8 but Inman would come right back and make the pass on lap 10 and would begin to pull away and go on take another win. Bret Moyer would get 2nd, Churchill was 3rd, Bryan Nevins was 4th and Ed Nelson was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Stock Cars for 20 laps, 38 stock cars meant it took 4 heats and a b-feature to dwindle the field down to 24. Only 23 out of 24 cars that qualified for the feature would make the call as the only 1 not was Steve Jackson as soon as Jackson's heat was over he blew it up. Before 1 lap could be completed Randy Biederman would spin in turn 4. When the race got going it looked that the "Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty would looking at his 101st career stock car feature win but he would have to battle for Donavon Smith. Then another caution came out on lap 13 when John Byriel would blow up and leave a lot of debris on the race track. On the restart the top 5 would be Murty, Smith, Todd Inman, Mike Nichols and Alan Van Gorp. Nichols would get by Smith and set his sights on Murty and would make the pass on Murty on lap 16. Nichols would take the win, Murty would take 2nd, Inman would get by Smith for 3rd and Mark Elliott would get by Van Gorp for 5th.

Racing came to and end at 11:10p, a little later than many expected but with at little rain delay what can you expect. It was a great night of racing for the most part and it was a nice night thats for sure. I want to thank Mick and Angel Trier, the Iowa State Fair and IMCA for putting on another great state fair race.

If you want another view of all the great racing action check out http://www.positivelyracing.com/ and go to "In Staging" with Ryan Clark.

Friday the 13th Was a Crazy Night at Mo'Town

Well if you would have asked if we were tonight the answer didn't look good if you would have asked Promotor Toby Kruse at 10 or 11 this morning. The rain stop and gave way to clear skies or so we thought because as 7pm rolled around and the clouds were building up to the south. The Change was made to have the drivers meeting at 6:55pm and Hot Laps at 7:10pm to get the show moving along at 7:30.

After all the heat races were run they were going to do the cardboard classic but because the sky didn't look good to the south they had to move them until after the Hobby Stock Feature and got the sport mod b-feature called up followed by the Mod Lites.

The first feature of the night was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites for their 15 lap feature. Ivan Guerra would take full advantage of his outside front row starting spot and not look back. Guerra would have to see 2 cautions on lap 8 and lap 12. Lap 8 caution was for Justin Efkamp spinning in turns 3&4 and then the lap 12 caution again for Efkamp in turn 4. Guerra wouldn't let the cautions faze him even though he would have Eric Hendrickson and Josh May right behind him. Guerra would pull away and watch Hendrickson and May battle for 2nd. Guerra took the win, his first at Marshalltown in the Mod Lites, Hendrickson took 2nd and May was 3rd. Guerra was very happy tonight that his wife and his kids were there to see it happen, good job Ivan. Finishing behind Guerra, Hendrickson and May rounding out the top 5 was Tim Hennigar and Mike Morrill.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature. It took 3 trys to get 1 lap in the book. The initial start saw Shawn Simatovich, Carter VanDenBerg and Nick Roberts get together in 3 & 4 and Jake Strayer in the frontstretch wall. On the restart, Lauren Vis would go in turn 1 and lose the driveshaft and come to a stop on the backstretch. So on the next restart we would see the young guns take advantage as Cayden Carter would take the lead and Tyler Droste would take 2nd place. These 2 would only have to worry about cautions on lap 11 and 2 on lap 13. Caution on lap 11 was for Fred Leytham in turn 1, the 2 on lap 13 was for Geoff Olson going off of turn 1 and then for Neil Follett and Jared Van Deest getting together in 1 & 2. Carter would go on and take his 5th win at Marshalltown of the year, Droste would finish 2nd, Scott Davis was 3rd, Brad Iverson was 4th and Eric Elliott was 5th.

The Class "Too Tough To Tame" Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars were up next for their 18 lap feature. Trevor Titus would lead the first lap but Veteran Tommy Thompson would battle with Titus and take the lead on lap 2. Thompson look to be going on to the win but then the only race caution came out on lap 9 when John Emerson spun in turn 4. On the restart, Thompson, Rob Schneider, Trevor Titus, Michael Jeannette and Dustin Smith were the top 5. Thompson would continue to lead until Dustin Smith made his way up to 2nd, Smith began to do battle and would pass Thompson on lap 14 to cruise on to the victory. The win would be Smith's 5th straight win and 7th of the season at Marshalltown. Thompson would finish 2nd, Schneider was 3rd, Rick Brown was 4th and Jeff Wollam was 5th.

The Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds had only 12 cars sign in tonight all made the call for the 20 lap feature. Todd Conrad would take the lead from the outside front row starting spot. The only thing slowing Conrad was the cautions on lap 6 for Mike O'Lear in turn 4 and then on lap 16 for Kyle Krampe in turn 3. Conrad would go on and take the win, his first win at Marshalltown since June 6th, 2008. "Motown Missile" Brett Ladehoff was 2nd, Jimmy Gustin was 3rd, Jay Schmidt was 4th and "Toddzilla" Todd Shute was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks for their 12 lap feature. Clint Nelson would take the lead from the outside front row and just after 2 laps were completed a caution came out for Nic Shearer spinning on the front stretch then on the restart another caution for Josh Burrell and John Schuring getting together in turn 2. Nelson would let that faze him meanwhile Devin Smith was making his way through the field and would catch Nelson on lap 5 and then make the pass on lap 6. Smith would go on and take his 7th win of the season at Marshalltown. Michael Murphy, Clint Nelson, Jennifer Hulin and Calvin Dhondt would round out the top 5.

All that racing was completed at 9:49p but after all that racing action was completed the kids hit the track for the Cardboard Box Classic Races presented by New Hope Christian Church and then it was the Spectator Eliminators.

Next Friday Night will be Johnny Ray's Sports Bar Night plus Vintage Cars racing as well. Hope to See you there at the Races

A Great Night of Racing at Marshalltown on Phoenix E-Waste Solutions Night

Well for once the weather would not be the question all day as it was sunny and great for racing although alot of drivers wouldn't agree with they way the night went. This night would start off with make-up features from July 23rd that rained out.

With that said the IMCA Sport Mods would resume their race from July 23rd with 2 laps down and Scott Simatovich leading. Simatovich would look to be pulling away but then a caution came out on lap 8 when Carter VanDenBerg spun in turn 4. Simatovich still continue to pace the field but then Cayden Carter would challenge for the top spot make the pass on lap 13 and shortly after Kyle Brown spun in turn 4 bring out the caution. Carter would be able to cruise to the win, his 4th feature win of the season at Marshalltown. Simatovich would take 2nd. Ryan Ashton was 3rd with Eric Flander in 4th, Fred Leytham would beat his son Gatlin for 5th.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars would come out next for their make-up feature. Trevor Titus would take the early race lead and shortly after 1 lap was completed Rick Brown would stop in turn 2. Titus would have Tommy Thompson and Andy Bryant. Bryant would get a good restart and pass Titus on lap 3 for the lead. It looked as Bryant would be pulling away but here comes Dustin Smith, Smith would pass Bryant on lap 10. 2 cautions on lap 13 would be the only thing slowing Smith, the first caution was for Josh Hohensee and Robbie Merkle in turn 2, the 2nd caution was for Mike Jeannette and Jeff Wollam getting together in turn 4. Smith would cruise on to his 4th win of the season at Marshalltown. Bryant was 2nd, Trent Murphy was 3rd, Tommy Thompson was 4th and Steve Meyer was 5th.

Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks make-up feature, Brandon Brinton took the early lead but he would be passed by Clint Nelson on lap 3. After Nelson took the lead, Nic Shearer and Matt Sorenson would get together on the front stretch bring out the caution. Nelson would continue to lead until Calvin Dhondt would inherit the lead on lap 8 after Nelson experienced some kinda of problems. Dhondt would go on and take his 2nd win of the season at Marshalltown. Eric Larson, Michael Murphy, Eric Knutson and Josh Saunders.

The final make-up feature was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds. Kyle Krampe would lead early and lead the first 9 laps. The first caution came out on lap 4 though because Andrew Kinser would roll his modified off the top of turns 1&2 bring out the red flag. Krampe would experience troubles as well on lap 10 causing cars to slide off the top, Jon Snyder was able to save it but infortunately Josh Gilman would not be able to as he rolled his modified off the top of turn 3. Gustin wouldn't let that faze him as he would continue to lead the race but with 2 laps to go, Richie Gustin (Jimmy's Brother) would blow up in turn 3 & 4 and come to a stop on the front stretch. This caution would put Brett Ladehoff on his back bumper but again Gustin would not be fazed as he would go on and take his 2nd feature win of 2010 at Marshalltown. Ladehoff would finish 2nd with Jon Snyder, Denny Rosenberg and Rick Speck rounding out the top 5.

After all of those make-up features were complete they were followed by the heats and b-features in all classes including the Mod Lites. Once all of those were complete it was time for the regular features.

First up in the regular features was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites. Joel Huggins would take the lead but after 1 lap was in the books James May, Johnny Mordock and Rick Taylor would get together, May and Mordock would roll but climb from their cars okay. Huggins would have his good buddy Eric Hendrickson on his back bumper on the restart but would get a good restart. The next 2 cautions came out on lap 4, first for Rick Taylor in turns 1&2 and then for 5K Kent Efkamp spinning in turn 1 and 51 Justin Efkamp on back stretch. Huggins would still have Hendrickson on his back bumper but Mike Morrill would get a good restart and begin to battle with Huggins. Huggins then would experience some problems as he shot hard toward the wall in turn 4 bring out the lead, that would hand the lead over to Morrill on lap 6. John Gardner III would also spin in turn 2. Morrill would have Tim Hennigar on his back bumper on the restart and look to hold him off but Morrill and Hennigar would battle for the top spot. Hennigar would take the lead on lap 10, only to have Morrill come back and take the lead on 11 but Hennigar would come back and take it on lap 12 and then take the final 3 laps and take the win, his 2nd win at Marshalltown this season. Morrill, Josh May, Eric Hendrickson and Dusty Masolini round out the top 5.

Before the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature, they would have 4 heats and a b-feature determine their field for the feature. Ryan Engelkes would lead the 1st lap but Curt Hilmer would take the lead from him the next lap. The first race caution came out on lap 3 when Zac Backer would spin in turns 1&2. Hilmer would continue to lead but then another caution came out on lap 8 when Nick Roberts and Shawn Simatovich got together in turn 2. On the restart, Hilmer would lose the lead to Brad Iverson. Iverson would take the lead mean while behind him Carter VanDenBerg and Curt Hilmer would get together in turn 4 and Geoff Olson had no where to go but into that. Iverson looked to be going away and take the win but Scott Davis would make the pass on lap 12 and take the win. The win would be the 3rd of the season at Marshalltown for Davis, Iverson was 2nd, Kyle Brown was 3rd, Jake Strayer was 4th and Jenae Gustin was 5th.

After that it was time for the Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars for their 18 lap feature. Rick Brown would lead the first 8 laps but then caution would come out for Rob Schneider spinning out in turn 4 and that would bunch the field up. Dustin Smith, who restart 3rd would get a good restart and pass Jeff Wollam and then Rick Brown to take the lead and cruise to another win making it a clean sweep on the night for Smith as this would Smith's win #5 at Marshalltown in 2010. Wollam would get by Brown for 2nd, Dave Atcher would take 4th and Steve Meyer would get 5th.

In the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature. Birthday Boy aka Mo-Town Missile Brett Ladehoff would take the lead in the modified feature with the only thing slowing him was the caution on lap 3 when Scott Bash spun in turn 2. Ladehoff would go on and take the win on the night of his family business was the sponsor and also the night that would be his birthday. This feature would Ladehoff's 3rd feature win of the season at Marshalltown. Luke Wanninger, Joel Bushore, Jon Snyder and Todd Conrad was 2nd through 5th.

The final feature of the night was the 12 lap Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks feature. Before 1 lap was completed Calvin Dhondt would spin in turn 4 bring out the caution. On the resart, Brandon Brinton would take the lead. Brinton would hold on to the lead until lap 6 when he was passed by Eric Larson. Another caution came out on lap 7 when Mike Anderson spun in turn 1. Larson and the field would see another lap completed and another caution when John Schuring would spin in turn 4. Larson would now have to battle with Devin Smith. Larson and Smith would door slam eachother and this would allow Michael Murphy to sneak by both of them and take the lead. Murphy would go on take his 1st win of 2010 at Marshalltown. Larson would cross the line in 2nd but was disqualified in post-race tech inspection meanwhile Smith would have a tire go down with 1 lap to go. Gene Nicklas would cross in 3rd but be promoted to 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 was Dustin Filloon, Jennifer Hulin and Devin Smith.

Racing came to an end at 11:30, not bad for a night that had make-up features and a regular program all in one.

Next Friday night though will be New Hope Christian Church Cardboard Classic/J&V Napa Auto Parts Racing Night plus Spectator Eliminators #2. Hot Laps at 6:45, Racing at 7!

Bayne Wins the Pole, Busch Wins the U.S. Cellular 250

After watching the rain take away Friday night racing in Marshalltown and hearing a delay in the start of the USAR Pro Cup Series Blue OX 150 at the Iowa Speedway. The USAR Pro Cup Series would ultimately be called because of fog making visiability impossible to continue so Clay Rogers took the win after 121 laps with AJ Frank, Logan Ruffin, Ryan Heavner and Chase Elliott rounded out the top 5. J.P. Morgan was the last car on the lead lap.

So with all that out of the way it was off to the Iowa Speedway for a fun filled day of great racing at Iowa. We left my house a little after 9 am and the parking lot was starting to fill up as we got there even tho they weren't suppose to open up until 10 am.

As we arrived the NASCAR Nationwide Series was on the race track for a practice session that was added because mother nature wiped out the 2 practice sessions scheduled on friday. After that at 11 am it was the NASCAR Foundation Track Walk taking place.

Then at 1 pm, Hospitality Villiage and Spectator Gates Opened up followed by a NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver Autograph Session from 1:30-2:30 pm.

At 3 pm it was time for Qualifying for the NASCAR Nationwide Series 250 presented by John Deere & Northland Oil. Kyle Busch was suppose to go first but ended up going 2nd out he would hold on to the pole for a while until the Aaron's Dream Machine driven by Trevor Bayne would take the pole position with a speed of 133.266 mph, Kyle Busch was 2nd quicket with a speed of 133.007 mph. Rounding out the top 10 in qualifying was Brian Scott, Brad Keselowski, Steve Wallace, Jason Leffler, Kevin Harvick, Justin Allgaier, Matt DiBenedetto and Kevin Lepage.

Then at about 6 pm all of the pre-race activites began, the national anthem was sang by Country Music singer Josh Thompson.

At 6:30 pm it was time for the NASCAR Nationwide Series U.S. Cellular 250 presented by John Deere & Northland Oil and Trevor Bayne, the pole sitter chose the inside so Kyle Busch went to the outside. Busch would take advantage of the outside starting spot and take the lead but as the field came to the line to complete the first lap, Tayler Malsam, Morgan Sherpherd and Mike Bliss all get together, Jeff Green incounters transmission issues and comes to a stop in turn 4.

It would only take a couple of laps for the track safety crew to get it cleaned up so it was back to race and Busch chose the outside leaving Bayne to the inside on the restart. Busch would take advantage of that on the restart and begin to pull away but would encounter lap traffic that would slow him down and as the run got longer his car would start to go away as Bayne's car was coming the further the run went.

Bayne would race side-by-side with Busch and use a lap car as a pick for a lap to take the lead on lap 41 but Busch would come back and take the lead right back on lap 42 and shortly after that a caution came out when Reed Sorenson blew up and hit the turn 2 wall and then Tony Raines makes contact with Sorenson and cuts a tire down and comes to a stop in turn 3 because the exit of turn 2 was blocked by the track safety crew the race was red flagged on lap 44, that red flag lasted 7 mins and 44 seconds.

Pit Stops were made and Kyle Busch would beat Bayne off of pit road to keep the lead. Busch would chose the outside line again and Bayne would start on the inside. Just like the previous starts Busch would take that lead and begin to cruise away.

Lap traffic would begin to slow Busch again allowing Bayne to catch up and make the pass for the lead on lap 76. Bayne would start to pull away but Busch would stay in tow of Bayne specially when a caution came out on lap 93 when Colin Braun (who was already in a back-up car because he wrecked the primary car in qualifying) spins out in turn 2. Braun then would be hit by Brian Keselowski causing Braun's car to go up in the air and come down on the hood of Brendan Gaughan. Paul Menard would get some damage as well on his #98 car. Just like the previous caution though this would also bring out the red flag on lap 94, this red flag would last 15 minutes and 55 seconds

On the restart on lap 98 and after a round of pit stops, Busch would take over the lead again. Busch would again chose the outside line giving Bayne the inside line and take the lead and start to pull away. Busch, Bayne and the field would see another caution come out on lap 106 when Paul Menard would spin out on the front stretch.

The race would resume on lap 109, Busch again restarting on the outside would be the advantage as he would resume the top spot again and begin to pull away.

The next race caution would come out on lap 161 when the car of Brian Scott would slam the turn 4 wall hard bunching the field back up on the restart.

Busch wouldn't let this caution faze him as he would resume command again as the leader but he would see the final race caution would come out on lap 204 when Mike Wallace would hit the turn 4 wall.

The final round of pit stops were made and Kevin Harvick would gamble and take 2 tires and take over the lead, Busch would lose postitions on pit road. On the restart, Harvick chose the outside and Jason Leffler was sent to the inside. Harvick was hoping and looking to go on for the win but Kyle Busch would jump up to 3rd coming off of turn 2.

Harvick and Busch would battle for the top spot and Harvick would hold off Busch until lap 226 when Busch would make the winning pass and take the win.

"Rowdy" Kyle Busch, who showed up just in time to qualify the car and qualified 2nd would lead the most lap and take the win at Iowa. "Happy" Kevin Harvick would finish 2nd, Jason Leffler would finish 3rd, Brad Keselowski was 4th and Trevor Bayne would finish 5th.

Steve Wallace, Son of the Track Designer and NASCAR Legend Rusty Wallace, took 6th. Des Moines, Iowa Native Michael Annett was in 7th. Justin Allgaier, Matt DiBenedetto and Carl Edwards was 8th through 10th.

It was a fun race to watch and i can't wait to see what the Iowa Speedway Schedule for next year will look like. Pay attention to the Iowa Speedway's website:
