Now that racing season is just a little over 4 weeks away from Frostbuster Week in Iowa, it's time to announce my plans for the 2025 racing season.
As some know, towards the end of the 2024 racing season, I was mentally worn out from announcing races, and I even took a night off late in the season because of that very reason. Am I still open to announcing races every now and then If I can fit it in my schedule, yes, but it will definitely not be on a weekly basis this season.
As of now, I would say the next time a microphone is picked up is during the high school wrestling season, but time will tell as I am open to filling in if it fits in my schedule.
So as I am putting the 🎤 microphone or 🎧🎤headset microphone down for now in the racing world, other opportunities opened for me.
Jerry Vansickel contacted me about changing things up at Marshalltown Speedway and asked me if I would become the flagman this season. After much thinking and him agreeing to give me a night off when I need it, I accepted to start the season at least on the flagstand and plan to do the whole season. I know I will have to miss at least 1 night in June.
Brandan Long contacted me about Warren County Speedway to flag races as well; after doing some thinking about it, I also agreed and will take over the flagging duties on the flag stand.
Last one, Don Wauters at Brooklyn Raceway asked me to take a big part in making Brooklyn a great track to race. He has asked me to be what I would call Race Director on Race Nights, work alongside Don on helping spread the word about race nights, conduct drivers meetings, and keep track of points as I have done the past several years.
Now by doing flagging and race directing, it means my blog recaps will be limited this season, but that might help limit some of the mental stress. I will still catch some races on off nights and write blog recaps and capture some pictures because I still love to do some of that.
I love this sport of racing and will be fair in every call I have to make. I put my heart and soul into the sport of racing. I know at the end of the day everybody is not going to be happy but I will be fair and consistent.
See you at MoTown, Warren County & Brooklyn!
