Mother Nature Wins Marshalltown, Boone Brings a great night of racing action!

Mother Nature seems like she wants to win on friday nights and this past friday night she got the victory because she moved in and rained in the afternoon. I wouldn't let her spoil my fun by catching racing action so i decided to go to the races on saturday by going to either webster city, independence or boone. Webster city and independence rained out so i headed for boone. A great night of racing action is what i saw in boone.
First up would be The Mod Lite Dwarf Cars for their 12 lap feature, Dusty Masolini would lead the entire event from green-to-checkered. "Fast" Ed Zehm would finish 2nd, Eric Hendrickson came home in 3rd, Charlie Brown in 4th and Andy Hennigar in 5th.
The Sport Mods were up next, 37 cars signed in so 4 heats and 2 b-features would set the field. Unlike the dwarf car feature this feature would be plagued with cautions. Jeff Blume would lead the first 5 laps. Cautions would come out on lap 3 when Jeremy Embrey stopped in turns 3 & 4, the next caution on lap 5 when 7 cars would spin in turns 3 & 4. Blume would lose the lead on the restart when he was passed by Dustin Dalton would lead the field until the last lap. A few more cautions would come out on lap 13, first for debris and then 4 cars spin in turn 4 after coming together on the restart. Scott Davis would pass Dustin Dalton and go on to the win, Dalton came home 2nd. Geoff Olson finished 3rd followed by Matthew Meinecke and Paul Nagle, who would come out of one of the b-features.
Up Next would be the IMCA Modifieds, 31 cars signed in so 4 heats and 1 b-feature would set the field. "The Hartford Hot shoot" Jacob Murray would lead the field to the green flag and hold on to the top spot until lap 5 where he would be passed by Craig Carlson for good as they would battle for the top spot during the early going. Carlson would hold that top spot until the very fast Adam Larson made the pass for the lead on lap 9, when it was a 3 car battle between Carlson, Larson and Greg Cox. Larson would take the lead, Cox in 2nd and Carlson in 3rd, the only caution came out on lap 15 when Jake Durbin and Josh Gilman would come together and Denny Pittman would stop on the backstretch. Larson would hang on for the victory, Cox would finish 2nd, "Toddzilla" Todd Shute in 3rd, Carlson would settle in 4th and Jay Schmidt would finish 5th.
IMCA Stock Cars would have 24 cars sign in to the pits so all cars would start the feature. Terry Corneilson took the lead from the start. Corneilson would hold the lead through a caution on lap 5 for debris. Corneilson would be passed by Trent Murphy on lap 12. Murphy would go on to the win, Corneilson would fall back to 6th. Behind Murphy was Robert Stofer, Donavon Smith, Bryan Trogdon and Wayne Gifford.
The Final 2 features of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks, they had 41 cars so that would be enough to run 2 features. In Feature #1, Travis Fenton led the first 2 laps before having troubles then Devin Smith led laps 3 through 6 and he encountered some trouble this handed the lead over to Alan Van Gorp. Van Gorp went on to victory lane in the green-to-checkered feature event. Behing Van Gorp was Beau Kaplan, Michael Murphy, Blake Miller and Dean Hartwig. In Feature #2, It was the Racing Veteran Larry Embrey would lead the entire feature event despite cautions on lap 3 for Ed Mahlstedt coming to come to a stop on the frontstretch and then again on lap 5 for Pat Mather in turn 4.
A great night of racing at the boone speedway. Next weeks blog will be recapping the Iowa Corn Indy 250 from the Iowa Speedway, Hogan Memorial in Vinton and the $1000 to win John Wetzel Hobby Stock Challenge!
