Late Night at Marshalltown for Ryan Ashton Racing Season Opener

This would be a night everybody would remember because people witnessed exciting finishes but would have a long night at the races because the first six heats races, 2 Mod Lites heats and 4 IMCA Sport Mod heats were ran before the speedway had a delay for a power outage at the race track. So while the track officials, Alliant Energy and K&L Electric was working on resuming power and getting temporary lights to the track. The people in the grandstands were entertained by the Announcer Blake Anderson and Promotor Toby Kruse, the kids went on a school bus rides around the track and in the pits.
Once power was resumed racing resumed at about 9:40 after an hour and a half delay where the remaining heats and b-features were run.
The O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites were up first for their 15 Lap feature. 18 Mod Lites signed in to race all made the call for the feature. Before 1 lap would be scored in the books. Todd Grisham would go for a roll in turn 1 and collect Cory Sonner. On the restart, Tim Hennigar, who was to start 3rd but bc of Grisham spinning and rolling, he would inherit the pole position. Hennigar would pull away but another caution on lap 4 when Dusty Masolini and Colby Obermebt would get stuck together on the backstretch. The Top 5 when the field went back to green would be Hennigar, Jimmy may, Josh May, Eric Hendrickson and Mike Morrill. Hennigar would maintain the lead but would do battle with Josh May which got by his dad on the restart and would also have to do battle with Mike Morrill later in the race. Hennigar would lose the lead to Josh May on lap 8 but regained it on lap 10. Morrill would make the pass on both of them to take the lead on lap 13 but would lose it as well. May, Hennigar and Morrill would come 3 wide out of turn 4, May would take the win, his second in six days. Morrill would take 2nd with Hennigar in 3rd, Eric Hendrickson was 4th and Jimmy May in 5th.
Up next was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods for their 15 lap feature. 41 Sport Mods signed into race so 4 heats and 2 b-features would be used to determine their field. Matt Lettow and Geoff Olson would lead the field to green. Olson would take the lead and the win in the caution-free feature. The only thing slowing Olson was lap traffic late in the race, it would be Olson's 2nd win in 5 days as he won at I-35 Speedway in Mason City. Eric Elliott, Eric Flander, Matt Lettow and Brad Iverson rounded out the top 5.
Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars "The Class To Tough To Tame" would be next for 18 laps. 23 Stock Cars signed in to do battle. Before 1 lap was completed their were 2 cautions, one for Robbie Merkle and Ryan Leeman getting together in turn 1 & 2 and the other one was the restart being called back by the flagman Jerry Vansickel. Once the race got going Tracy Gienger took the race lead, he would lose the lead on lap 5 to Damon Murty. Murty would cruise to the victory despite 2 more cautions on lap 9 and 12 and a late race charge by Dustin Smith. Murty, Smith, Steve Meyer, Michael Jeannette and Trent Murphy would be the top 5 at the finish.
Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds would be up for their 20 lap feature, 27cars signed in to do battle. Just like the Mod Lites and the Stock Cars before 1 lap was completed their was a caution when 4 cars got together in turn 2 and Mike O'Lear on the front stretch. When the racing would get going Luke Wanninger would take the lead, mean while he would have Richie Gustin on his back bumper and those to would begin to do battle for the lead along with dodging lap traffic but on lap 13 with lap traffic 3 wide and those to trying to battle for the lead and trying to get by them at the same time, Wanninger and Gustin got together off turn 4 to bring out the caution, Wanninger would head to the pits with a broken front end and Gustin to the pits for a broken rear end meanwhile this handed the lead over to Scott Simatovich. The only thing that slowed Simatovich was a caution on lap 17 when Kyle Krampe and Jay Schmidt got together. Simatovich would take the win, Jon Snyder took 2nd. Vern Jackson, Jimmy Gustin and Todd Conrad rounded out the top 5.
The final feature of the night was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks for their 12 lap feature. 31 cars signed in so 4 heats and a b-feature would determine the field. Josh Irvine and Nick Murty would start on the front row, Irvine would take the lead and Murty would run in 2nd. Murty would take the lead on lap 5 but when a caution came out on lap 6, he would pull in for some mechanical issues that handed the lead back over to Irvine. Irvine would cruise to the victory with Todd Reitzler in 2nd, Michael Murphy in 3rd, Devin Smith in 4th and Dustin Elliott in 5th.
