Irvine Takes The Checkers At Marshalltown

After a great friday night at Marshalltown, the track prep crew began prepping the track for Tonight's Great American Stock Car Shootout which is the start of the Great American Stock Car Series for IMCA Stock Cars. This night began with the pits opening at 4:30 and by the time i got to the track at 5 the pits had 5 different states represented.

23 Sport Mods, 23 Hobby Stocks and 52 Stock Cars signed in giving a total 98 cars signed in for Night #1 of the Stock Car Series. No B-Features were required in the Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks tonight.

First Feature of the Night was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods for their 20 Lap feature. Before 1 lap was completed in the feature, Jaymie Duinink and Carter Vandenberg would spin in turn 2 and Gatlin Leytham and Cody Heishman would spin in turn 4. When the race got going it was the young guns Jenae Gustin and Cayden Carter that would battle for the top spot. Gustin would take the lead and lead the first 2 laps before we saw the 2nd race caution for debris in turn 1. Gustin on the restart would still be able to hold of Carter as 1 more lap was completed. We then saw our 3rd and final caution on lap 3 for Matthew McCahen spinning in turn 4. On the restart Carter would get a nice run and be able to slip by Gustin for the lead. Carter would go on and take the win. Kyle Brown, Scott Davis, Fred Leytham and Gustin rounded out the top 5.

Up Next was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks for their 20 Lap Feature. Todd Reitzler would take advantage of his outside front row starting spot and take command early. Reitzler would have to battle with Scotty Lograsso early on. the first race caution came out on lap 3 when 1x of Peterson spun in turn 4. Reitzler and the field would get another lap completed before another caution on lap 4 for debris on the front stretch. On the restart the T15 of Jacob Thompson would go off the top of turns 1 & 2 and roll over, he would climb from the car but would be taken to the near by hospital for precautionary measures. When the race finally resumed after a slight delay, the field would complete another lap before the caution came out again this time for Adam Rickett, Leonard Loftus and Dustin Filloon spinning out in turn 2. Reitzler wouldn't let all these cautions faze him as he would still maintain the top spot. Infact we would race another 5 laps before we saw another caution, this time for debris in turn 3. Another lap was completed before we saw our final caution on lap 11 when Rickett spun in turn 2. Reitzler wouldn't be taken down by all the cautions as he would go on and take the win. Michael Murphy, Josh Irvine, Curt Ganoe and Scotty Lagrosso would round out the top 5. Cody Gustoff claimed Reitzler's motor and Reitzler accepted the swap, Dustin Filloon claimed something on Josh Irvine's car.

The Final Feature of the Night was The Class "Too Tough To Tame" Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars for their 30 Lap Feature. It took 6 heats, 3 b-features to dwindle the field down from 52 cars to the best 24 cars. When the feature got going Abe Huls from Carthage, Illinois took the early lead, he would lead the first 6 laps but then we saw our only caution on lap 6 for Andy Bryant spinning in turn 2. On the restart, Huls would have Dave Smith and Brian Irvine behind him and Irvine would jump out and take the lead. At Lap 15 the top 10 was Irvine, Damon Murty, Huls, Dustin Smith, Dave Smith, Donavon Smith, Jay Schmidt, Kyle Frederick, Trent Murphy and Sean Johnson. Irvine would continued to lead and not lose his confidence as he would go on to the win despite Dustin Smith and Murty catching up to him. Dustin Smith would get 2nd, Murty was 3rd. Donavon Smith was 4th and Abe Huls was 5th.
