By Jeremy Fox

Des Moines, Iowa (April 4th, 2013) – On Thursday Night the Iowa State Fair Speedway in Des Moines opened its 2013 season with their frostbuster special, which was suppose to be night two of the frostbusters but because of the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa not able to go this made for the opening night of the frostbusters.

A total of one hundred and five cars signed in to do battle on the 1/2 mile in the capital city including twenty-seven IMCA Modifieds. Forcing officials to start all twenty-seven cars for the 20 lap Frostbuster Feature.

Todd Shute would jump to the early race lead in the 20 lap IMCA Modified frostbuster feature. The caution would fly on lap two  for Kyle Wahlert in turn 2 on the restart before they could complete another lap a handful of cars would get together in turn 3 forcing the yellow to come back out.

On the restart, Shute would again take control but this time not for long as on lap four there would be some heavy smoke coming from that machine that forced an early exit and that would hand the lead over to Jeremy Mills. A lead Mills would not give up.  Cayden Carter and Kyle Strickler from North Carolina would battle it out for second, it would be Carter taking second and Strickler was 3rd. Jake Durbin and Jay Noteboom rounded out the top 5.

In the IMCA Stock Cars it was Mike Johnston leading the first 10 laps that was caution filled. On the final race restart, “Chelsea Charger” Damon Murty would take the lead away and go on to take the win. Jeff Anderson from Atlantic would start 19th and race his way up to finish 2nd. Nathan Wood, Johnston and Gary Bass rounded out the top 5.

IMCA Sport Mod feature would have a couple of early race cautions but that would not bother Rick Gladson as he would lead the entire 15 lap feature. Carter Vandenberg, Blain Peterson, Glenn Gladson and Tracy Wassenberg finish second through fifth respectively.

Karl Cheverolet Dirt Trucks saw Carl Moyer lead the first 3 laps before best friend Tony Moro would grab the lead on lap 4. A lead that Moro wouldn’t give up in root to the first feature win of the season. Ed Nelson would get by Moyer for second, meanwhile Carl Moyer would have to hold off his son Bret Moyer for third. Lou Siplot supporting a new number this year finished fifth.

Shannon Anderson would take full advantage of his pole position in the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature as he would lead the entire feature despite a couple of early race cautions and one late race caution. Dustin Griffiths would slip by Danny Watson for second with a couple of laps to go. Eric Stanton was fourth and Ben Bruck was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Sport Compacts, Jim Britton would lead 7 laps in the 8 lap feature but coming to the white flag his car would shut off and that would allow Jake Coughennower get by and take the win. Kyle Bird, Garrit McKee, Shawn Cooney and Josh Cleghorn would round out the top 5.
