Jacobson, Nielsen, Chodur, Green and Ruter Take I-35 Speedway Frostbuster Season Opener

After taking four nights of racing for some in early April that would be enough but for me it was not as i made my first ever trip two hours north to the North Iowa Fairgrounds and the I-35 Speedway in Mason City.

As i arrived Hot Laps were taking place meaning i had perfect timing leaving and arriving and two hours after i arrived the races were over. The track may have been rough but that can be a typical early April race track and if there is anybody to make things better its Joe Ringsdorf. Ringsdorf is on the list of some great promoters i have met over the years, the list rather long of great promoters with great hospitiality.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts and it was Danny Sassman Jr taking the early lead. The only race caution came out on lap three when Chris Wilson broke front axle and came to a stop in turn four. Sassman continue to maintain the lead until late race when it appeared his tires were going away as Lucas Jacobson worked his way around Sassman with two laps to go. Jacobson took the win over Sassman, Jacob Kofoot, Dalton Kron and Steve Fields.

Andrew Borchardt grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature but just after two laps were completed the caution came out for Spencer Cole in turn two. Borchardt got a great restart and pulled away and looked to be heading on to the easy win before the final race caution came out with two laps to go when Cole spun and then Bryant Johnson tried to avoid contact but instead when for a firery roll in turn four. Johnson claimed out on his own power as track crew put the fire out and cleaned up the mess. On the restart, Borchardt had to contend with Cody Nielsen and it was Nielsen taking the win away on the final lap. Borchardt finished second, Scott Dobel was third, Jeremy Wagner was fourth and Chanse Hollatz was fifth.

After the wild finish to the Hobby Stocks feature it was time for the IMCA SportMods feature and this feature went green-to-checkered and it was Nick Meyer taking the lead. Meyer lead until two laps to go when something would expire ending his night that handed the lead over to Nate Chodur. Chodur held on to take the win over George Nordman, Colton Livezey, Dan Tenold and Nate Whitehurst.

Joe Willier took the early lead in the IMCA Stock Cars feature but after a move by Granda, Minnesota driver Derek Green, it was Green taking the lead. Green took the win with Willier holding on to the second place finish. Luke Saathoff, Kevin Opheim and Heath Tulp rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds feature and it was Ryan Ruter taking the lead. Ruter never looked back taking his second win of the weekend, also won Hancock County on Saturday. Rich Lewerke, Josh Ruby, Kelly Shryock and Alex Hanson finished second through fifth.
