Braaksma, Bouzek, Inman & Graham Take Hawkeye Auto Salvage IMCA Frostbusters in Stuart

Well after passing up going to the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri a couple of weeks ago because it was too cold and passing up going to the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway fighting headaches, I finally found good enough to get out of winter hibernation and hit up the races again. Now it wasn't a complete hibernation because I did some pa announcing for Marshalltown High School to fill up the time.

A total of one hundred and sixteen cars filled the Karl Chevrolet Stuart International Speedway for the Hawkeye Auto Salvage IMCA Frostbuster. This was originally scheduled to be the second of five nights but the opening frostbuster series event at Independence Motor Speedway on Wednesday was cancelled along with the final night of the Benton County Speedway on Sunday, so this was the first of three nights. It was sunny but a strong North wind may it very chilly until it finally died down, The racing action was heated up on the track. Final Checkered flag waived at 10:18pm.

First feature of the night was the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts 14 lap feature event. Milford's Brooke Osler and Kaden Murray from Beatrice, Nebraska lead the field to the green flag. Murray jumped out to the race lead and never looked back going on to take the feature win. Tenth place starter Jake Paysen tried to chase down Murray but ran out time and came home in second. Bryan Vannausdle was third, Blain Petersen was fourth and Anthony Clark came home in fifth.

Next up was the Friesen Performance IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, before a lap was completed scored the caution came out when Rayce Mullen spun in turn one and two. Tyler Inman, driving Carter VanDenBerg's hot rod, out wrestled Hunter Longnecker for the race lead on the following restart. Inman looked strong out front but cautions would slow the event down on lap four, six, thirteen and fourteen. Inman remain unfazed and hung on to win. Brayton Carter sped his way from twelfth to grab second. Cam Reimers, Alec Fett and tenth place Starter Taylor Kuehl rounded out the top five.

Austin Bouzek grabbed the lead early in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars 20 lap feature event, Bouzek struggled racing a couple of weeks ago in Memphis, Missouri but on Thursday Night, he was the man to beat. Bouzek looked to be cruising along to the easy win until a pair of cautions on lap 15. Bouzek held off Buck Schafroth and Bryan Snell on the restart and went on to take the feature win. Schaforth was runner up ahead of Snell, twelfth place starter Dustin Reeh and Travis Hatcher.

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks had a little struggle getting their feature event going as Joey Young spun in turn one on the start and then a lap later, Rusty Bates spun on the front stretch with a little help from Brad Burhenne. Bradly Graham out dueled "The Mayor" John Watson on the start and then again on the restart. Graham managed to take his first feature win of the season. Watson came home second. Minneapolis, Kansas racer Cody Williams moved up six spots from ninth to finish third. Solomon Bennett was fourth and Eric Stanton in fifth.

Ethan Braaksma jumped out to the race lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds 22 lap feature event presented by VIP Contractors and the first four laps ran without cautions. After that the remaining 18 laps saw a total of eight caution flags putting a dampening on this feature event. Braaksma remained strong going on to win his fifth straight feature win and his seventh of the year 2024 already. Dylan Thornton spun on lap six went to the back and worked his way back through to come home in second. Eleventh place starter Dallon Murty came home third, "The Rocket" Jerry Flippo was fourth and "Toddzilla" Todd Shute in fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Outlaw Mini Mods presented by Black Iron Manufacturing for 15 laps. The caution came out before a single lap was completed when Mason Burkman and Megan Daniels get together in turn two. Matthew Grobe from Austin, Minnesota took the race lead and was cruising along even after the caution on lap two. Grobe cruising along while Bobby Daniels, Chase Daniels and Lucas Daniels battled with Nathan Kilwine. Kilwine got by the Daniels and set his sights on Grobe. Kilwine took the lead away on lap 12 prior to a caution Grobe refused to go away and would managed to take the top spot a back coming to the checkers. Kilwine, Chase Daniels, Bobby Daniels and Lucas Daniels rounded out the top five.
