Ellithrope, Pippert, Kaplan, DeShaw and Auringer win on Night #5 of Frostbusters

The Frostbusters week would come to and end at the Benton County Speedway in Vinton where the West Edge Auto Salvage of Independence was the sponsor for the night. A total of 92 cars signed in to compete at the historic race track.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts and it was Jacob Ellithrope taking the lead and not looking back. Ellithrope took the win, Merv Chandler was 2nd and Steve Miedke was 3rd. Bill Whalen and Jaycee Floyd would round out the top 5.

In the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was Scott Pippert leading from start to finish in the green-to-checkered feature. Justin Lichty was 2nd, Cale Petersen was 3rd, Justin Wacha was 4th and Matt Brown was 5th.

IMCA Sport Mods feature was up next and this feature would be a wild one. Curt Hilmer would take the early lead and the first 5 laps were run caution free. On lap 6 though the first caution came out for Dave Schulze in turn 2. The race would get another lap in before the caution would come out again.

Hilmer would continue to lead but another race caution would come out on lap 8 thus time for several cars spinning in turn 1 and 2. Hilmer would loose the lead to Kip Siems on lap 11 but then the caution would fly again on laps 11 and 12. Austin Kaplan would make the move and take the lead with 1 lap to go. Kaplan would take the win, Danny Dvorak was 2nd, Dave McCalla was 3rd and Nick Roberts was penalized for jumping and placed in 4th with Hilmer in 5th.

Dave Stricker would lead the first lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature but he would be passed by Jason DeShaw on lap 2. The caution then would come out for Scooter Dulin and Dave Stricker getting together in turn 2. DeShaw wouldn't let the caution on lap 2 or on lap 8 faze him as he went on to take the win. Damon Murty, Jeff Mueller, Paul Shepherd and Austin Evens rounded out the top 5.

The final feature was the IMCA Modifieds and it was JD Auringer taking the lead early. The only thing that would slow Auringer down was lap traffic and that set up for an exciting side-by-side finish. Auringer took the win in the feature that went green-to-checkered and ran in just under 8 minutes, Last Year's Winner Dan Ratajczak was 2nd, Kenny Schrader was 3rd, Richie Gustin was 4th and Troy Cordes was 5th.

Racing action finish at 7:52 pm. Benton County Speedway's week track points gets underway next sunday. Gates Open at 3pm, Hot Laps at 4:30pm and Racing at 5pm.

Next up for me will either be a return trip to the Southern Iowa Speedway for the Season Opener there or the Marshalltown Speedway. Then maybe the Deery Show in Webster City or Boone's Season Opener
