This past weekend the Thunder Dome hosted the 1st Annual "Smokin Smoe" Memorial Season Championships. This race was in honor of a fellow racer we lost to cancer prior to the Thunder Dome season with a few of Smokin Smoe's family in attendance it was a great day for the Thunder Dome to wrap up its 2nd season.
After all the heats where complete it was time for the features to start and the first feature of the night was the Unlimited All-Stars (UAS) go-kart class, a class that "Smokin Smoe" would have been racing in so in honor of him this class would all bring their karts on the track and fire them up on the race track a tribute to "Smokin Smoe"
When the racing action got underway in the Unlimited All-Stars it was Turbo Timmy Bontrager, a friend of Smokin Smoe, taking the early race lead but on lap 5 it was Mike Jones taking lead. Jones would hold on to the lead until lap 8 when Bontrager would take the lead back. Bontrager looked to be going on to the win but on the white flag lap Bontrager would go high and that would allow Kris Schweer to get by and take the win. Bontrager would take 2nd, Jacob Haws was 3rd, Chris Brown was 4th and Landon Witte was 5th.
The Kid Karts class would see "The Lily Lake Hustler" Gaige Stratton lead from start to finish in the 10 lap feautre. Connor Kriegel came home 2nd, Rolend Stewart was 3rd, Joren Fisher was 4th and Keagan Thompson was 5th.
Up next was the Junior 2 Pro Heavy go-kart class and for the 7th time straight it was Tyler Havens taking the win in the 12 lap race, Tanner Mullan would finish 2nd.
Rookie Beginners go-kart class would see Kamden Criss start on the pole and take advantage of it and go on to win in the 10 lap feature by leading from start to finish. For Criss this was his 2nd straight win, "Lily Lake Hustler" Gaige Stratton would finish 2nd and Moorea Brown was 3rd. Connor Kriegel would not make the call for the feature as he experienced some mechanical issues in the heat races.
In the Rookie Advanced go-kart class it was Logan Duffy taking the lead early and never looking back as Duffy would take the win. Blake Dullard was 2nd, Brady Kohrs was 3rd, Keegan Havens was 4th and Dallon Murty was 5th.
Cage Kart would see Riley Plain the only entry on the day how to have a little fun and get some valuable laps in.
Junior Quads would see Tristan Rethmeier lead from start to finish and get the clean sweep on the day. Bryce Paulson took 2nd, Braydon Sly was 3rd and Ireland Brown was 4th.
In the Junior Bikes it was Brandon Webster leading from start to finish in the 12 lap race. Clayton Moyer would finish 2nd.
The Amateur Quads saw #66 i believe it was Mike Moore taking the win. Rick Reeves was 2nd, Donny Teninty was 3rd, Justin Sutherlin was 4th and Donny Sly was 5th. Scott Brown was disqualified.
After we clean the track up a bit we had a Buddy Race and although it was Turbo Timmy Bontrager and Brian Kauffman crossing the line in first after the race, the scorers deemed the winner was Gaige Stratton and his dad Jay Stratton because Gaige was the cutest.
For the Junior 1 Pro Heavy go-kart class, Nick Rose would lead the first lap but Michael DeJong would make the move on lap 2 and pass Rose. DeJong would go on and take the win and Rose would finish 2nd but claim the track championship.
Clone Heavy go-kart class would see a battle for the championship as Brandon Sohl lead over Albert Wolfgram by 35 pts because there was 8 entries on the day that meant all Sohl would have to do is finish top 5 to take the championship. Albert Wolfgram would lead the first 3 laps but Sohl would make the pass on lap 4 and go on and take the win and the championship. Wolfgram would be slowed up by a lap car and that would allow Josh Omans to get by and finish 2nd and move Wolfgram to 3rd. Cole Janssen and Casey Luke would round out the top 5.
The final feature of the day was the Pro Bikes feature and it was Clayton Webster leading from start to finish. Brandon Webster would finish 2nd, the Amateur Bikes of Jason Stratton and Canon Speers was 3rd and 4th respectively.
Next up for Full Throttle Promotions, they get ready to take over the
promotor position at the Deleware Speedway in Delaware, Iowa. The first
action at Delware Speedway will be Practice on April 28th and the first
