Mother Nature won last week but this week the race track would see some great three and four wide racing action. The race night was run just over two and half hours as the night started about 5 minutes earlier and finished just after ten o’clock.
Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature would see Richie Gustin Jr. take the early lead however after three laps were completed a multi car accident would happen in turn 1. On the restart Gustin would have Ronn Lauritzen and Joel Bushore; Lauritzen would get a perfect restart and take the lead on lap four. Shortly after Lauritzen was credited the lead the caution would fly again on lap four. Lauritzen would end up holding off every challenger after the caution on lap four and then on the cautions on lap thirteen and seventeen to take the victory, his first at Marshalltown. Jon Snyder, Richie Gustin Jr., Kyle Krampe and Adam Larson rounded out the top five.
The Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars lived up too its nickname of the class “Too Tough to Tame” as there would be five different leaders in the eighteen lap feature. Trevor Titus would lead the first lap but it was Michael Jaennette taking the lead on lap two. Jaennette would hold on to the top spot until Steve Meyer would snatch it on lap six. Meyer would hold the lead until a caution came out on lap eight. On the restart, Meyer would be passed by Tracy Gienger and a lap later the caution would fly again. Gienger would hold on to the lead until Brian Irvine would make the move and take it with five to go. Irvine would go on and take the win with Gienger finishing second. Michael Murphy would have his best finish by finishing third, Meyer would finish fourth and Jaennette would finish fifth.
In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature it was a pair of cars with same number leading the laps. Gaitlin Leytham of Garwin would take the early race lead but Jenae Gustin would take the lead on lap four. Gustin would look to be pulling away but the caution would come out on lap fourteen setting up a green-white-checkered finish. Gustin would be able to hold of Carter Vandenberg and Eric Elliott to take the win. VanDenBerg would end up second, Racer Hulin took third, and Elliott came home fourth with Scott Davis finishing fifith.
Austin Luellen would take the race lead in the Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks. Luellen would see the caution fly three times in the first three laps but that wouldn’t bother him as he would continue to lead the race. Kevin Fee would start seventh would make his way up to Luellen and race side-by-side with Luellen before end up making the pass on lap ten. Fee took the win with Luellen finishing second. Finishing behind Fee and Luellen was Scott Pippert, Eric Larson and Eric Knutson.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites saw Joel Huggins take the lead and it appeared that Huggins was going to win the race but then the caution came out on lap nine. On the restart Huggins would have Josh May and Andy Hennigar right behind him. May had a great restart along with a slight bobble for Huggins that slowed Hennigar down a little to take the lead. May would lead the last six laps to take the win with Hennigar finishing second, Mike Morrill was third, Randy Bryan was fourth and Jason Whitehead was fifth.
Last in the IMCA Sport Compacts it was Merv Chandler leading the entire eight lap feature that went green-to-checkered. David Moorman, John Gill, Justin Tharp and Josh Keller would round out the top 5.
Next Friday Night will be the annual Cliff Chambers Memorial, where the speedway will honor a former promoter of the speedway with hot laps at 6:45 pm and racing at 7:30 pm.
