Stanton, Gustin, Schmidt and Larson Win Thrillers on Minute Man Printing Night at MoTown
By Jeremy Fox

Marshalltown, Iowa (May 30th, 2014) –  There is no place better to be on Friday Nights then the Marshalltown Speedway as everybody was on the edge of their seats all night long. Thrilling finish in four out of six feature events on Minute Man Printing Night.

For the second week in a row the 18 lap IMCA Northern SportMods feature was a thriller. Chad Ryerson lead the first three laps before the caution came out twice. On the restart, Ryerson saw Ryan King take the lead. King saw Jenae Gustin take the top spot on lap six. Gustin continued to lead until the caution came out on lap ten. On the restart, Gustin saw King, Clint Luellen, Carter VanDenBerg and Sam Wieben but Gustin held on to the lead on lap 11 only to see Luellen take the lead away on lap 12. Gustin, Luellen and VanDenBerg began to have a three car battle for the top spot but Luellen maintained the lead until the last lap when Gustin would take the lead back for her second win of the season at Motown. VanDenBerg beat Luellen to the line for second meanwhile Wieben was fourth and Jared Van Deest was fifth.

"Class To Tough To Tame" IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature did not disappoint any one as it was exciting from the drop of the green to the checkered. Don Vis led the opening lap before Jay Schmidt took the lead away on lap two. Schmidt led through the cautions on lap eight and ten but the caution on lap 13 would set up a good one. Schmidt saw Donavon Smith and Steve Meyer right behind him on the restart, Smith worked the bottom side and took the lead coming to two to go. Schmidt took it back when Smith bobble just a bit and he held of Smith to take his first win at Motown this season. Meyer ended third, Michael Jaennette tried to join the fun but finish fourth and Jeff Wollam was fifth.

Rookies Jake Strayer and Brandon Leeman battled up front in the opening laps for the IMCA Modified 20 lap feature. Strayer lead until lap six before Adam Larson took the lead away. Larson appeared to be heading on to the easy race win and the only thing that slowed him down was lap traffic. On the last lap though Larson jumped the cushion allowing Luke Wanninger to chase him down, Wanninger tried to make a move coming to the checkered but it did not work as Larson took the win. Joel Rust, Brandon Leeman and Jon Snyder rounded out the top five.

David Moorman led all eight laps in the IMCA Sport Compacts. John Gill in 2nd, Aaron Miller in 3rd and Douglas Byers in 4th.

Mod Lites 15 lap feature saw Mike Kennedy lead the first two laps before Travis Brandt took the lead away. Brandt and the field saw the caution come out twice on lap four but that did not faze him. Brandt continued to lead until Charlie Brown took the lead away on lap eight. Just after the completion the caution came out for the final time. Brown managed to pull away and take the win over Andy Hennigar, Mike Morrill, Brandt and Randy Bryan.

In the IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature, it was Rookie Andy Hick leading lap one. Just after the completion of that lap, Brice Udelhoven, Austin Luellen and Steve Fricke got together in turn two. Hick appeared to be no rookie as he got a great restart but some Eric Stanton chase him down and was able to take the lead with one to go. Stanton went on to take the win meanwhile John Watson finished second. Hick, Gary Pfantz and Last Week's Winner Dustin Elliott finish third through fifth respectively.

Next Week the race track is busy because there is racing on Tuesday Night and Friday Night. First on Tuesday is the return of the United States Modified Touring Series plus Iron Man Challenge Series for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods. Hot Laps at 7:00 p.m. and Racing to Follow.
