Gustin Siblings Among Winners on Johnny Ray’s Night
By Jeremy Fox

Marshalltown, Iowa (May 1st, 2015) – Marshalltown Speedway roared back to life on Johnny Ray's Sports Bar and Grille Night after mother nature won the previous weeks races. 94 race cars signed in to tame the high banked quarter mile and the fans was not disappointed with the finishes.

Jimmy Gustin and Trent Jackson started on the front row of the Coors Light IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature and it was Gustin that took advantage by grabbing the lead. Gustin seem to be comfortable out front before the only race caution was displayed on lap eight for debris. Gustin saw Joel Rust and Adam Larson on his back bumper, Larson took second away from Rust and set his sights on getting by Gustin. Gustin managed to hold off the challenges from Larson to take his first win at Marshalltown since April 26th, 2013. Larson was second meanwhile Brian Irvine worked his way from tenth to finish third. Jon Snyder and Rust finished fourth and fifth respectively.

In the Miller Lite IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event, it was Jay Schmidt taking the lead early as the field behind was going three and four wide in the early going. Schmidt however saw Donavon Smith work his way from eighth to second and battled Schmidt for the lead at the same time Michael Jaennette and Jeff Wollam battled for third. Smith took the lead away on lap six and pulled away to take the win. Jaennette took second, Steve Meyer was third, Schmidt was fourth and Wollam was fifth in the feature that went green-to-checkered.

Before a single lap was completed in the IMCA Northern SportMods 18 lap feature, the caution came out. On the restart, it was Brandon Williams taking the lead. Williams saw his lead short lived because Ryan King stayed in tow and made the move to take the lead away on lap five. King pulled away and appeared to be going on to take his first win at Marshalltown even with lap traffic ahead but the caution came out on lap 16. King had Williams, twelveth place starter Jenae Gustin and Clint Luellen right behind. King saw Gustin find the right lane on the restart that allowed her to take the lead away and go on to the win. King, Jared Van Deest, Sam Wieben and Williams rounded out the top five.

Tim Barber lead lap one in the Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature but it was Austin Luellen taking the lead away after starting sixth. Luellen was only slowed by a pair of cautions on lap nine. Luellen took the win over Eric Stanton, Andy Hick, Nathan Ballard and Dustin Graham.

15 lap Mod Lite feature saw Joel Huggins grab the top spot early but he held off every challenge until the only race caution came on lap eight for Mike Morrill in turn four. Huggins had to contend with Charlie Brown and Travis Stensland but it was Josh May that took the lead away on lap ten. Josh May went on to take his second win at Marshalltown over Joel Huggins, Jimmy May, Charlie Brown and Stensland.

Next Friday Night will be the annual Cliff Chambers Memorial presented by UAW 893 plus the Nostalgia Cars will be taking to the quarter mile. Hot Laps at 6:50pm and Racing at 7:30pm.
