Last Lap Passes on Night 2 at Hamilton County

Saturday the original plan was to make a three hour drive south to the state of Missouri and the Scotland County Speedway to score some races but mother nature had other plans and washed out the races in Memphis on Thursday. Many wondered why but just too much rain and a drainage system not the greatest along with the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model series deciding to cancel the whole weekend swing forced the cancellation.

So with that, that left my saturday night options open once again and after deciding not to pick up the Midwest Dirt Kart Challenge Series races at Shimek Speedway in Farmington, the decision was down to Hamilton County Speedway, Independence Motor Speedway, Boone Speedway or Knoxville Raceway. The decision was to head north for the second week in a row and go to the Hamilton County Speedway.

Tommy Beekman lead the IMCA Sport Compacts feature even though a caution came out on lap one for Danny Sassman in turn two. Beekman pulled away to take the win over Tige Redenius, John Gill, Aaron Miller and Sassman.

Myles Michehl used his outside front row starting spot to take the lead in the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature. Michehl pulled away only to see the first caution come out on lap three for Butch Patterson and Chanse Hollatz getting together on the backstretch.  Michehl did not let that caution or the caution on lap 12 bother him as he went on to take the win. Kevin Berger, Craig Graham, Matt Mundt and Kyle Schmauss rounded out the top five.

In the IMCA Northern SportMods 16 lap feature, it was Rocky Caudle taking lead early and looked comfortable out front until a cuaiton on lap three when Jeremy Morriss, Autum Anderson and Cory Bahrenfuss in turn one. Two laps later the caution came out again when Brandon Toftee and Brad Ratcliff in turn two and Anderson in turn one. Caudle again one take control and pull away meanwhile Ty Griffith got by Taylor Musselman for second and began chasing down Caudle. Caudle jumped the cushion on the last lap opening the door enough for Griffith to beat him to the line for Griffith's second win at HCS in 2015. Musselman finished third, Jerid Ratzke was fourth and Jared Van Deest was fifth.

Lance Deal led the opening lap of the Stock Car feature before Matt Ring took the lead away on lap two. Ring continued to lead until the caution came out on lap 11 for Jake Masters on the backstretch. That allowed Jeff Deal to take the lead away on the restart just before the caution came out again for John Campbell in turn four. Jeff Deal held on to the lead to take the win over Ring, Travis Prochaska, Lance Deal and John Campbell.

Joel Rust ran up front the opening lap of the IMCA Modifieds feature before the only race caution came out for several cars getting together in turn one. Tyler Prochaska wrestled the lead away on the restart and lead until Mark Elliott worked his way to second. Mark Elliott took the lead away from Prochaska on lap 15 and went on to lead the remaining five laps to take the win. Adam Larson got by Prochaska for second on the last lap. Kyle Brown edged out Greg Elliott for fourth.

Final race of the night was the IMCA Late Models feature and it was Jeremy Grady starting on the pole. Grady took advantage and lead all 20 laps to take the win and not even cautions on lap six or 16 slowed him down. Ryan Griffith, Paul Nagle, Jason Hahne and Darrel DeFrance finished second through fifth respectively.

Racing continues next Saturday Night at the Hamilton County Speedway. Hot Laps at 6:30pm and Racing to follow. Check out hamiltoncospeedway.com for more information.
