Another Night of Fantastic and Exciting Racing Action at Marshalltown

Everybody in attendance on Old Timers Lounge Night would see some fantastic racing action. Several times through the night, they would get 3, 4 and 5 wide coming off the corners. Also the fans would get an added bonus with the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods running a King of the Hill and that wouldn’t be disappointed.

Duayne Herb would lead the first 3 laps before once again Merv Chandler would take the top spot away. Chandler would go on to take win number 12 on Friday Nights at Marshalltown. Herb would again settle for 2nd, Travis Losenicky was 3rd, Travis Ross was 4th and Neil Nabholz was 5th.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature would see Adam Larson from Ames lead the first 11 laps before Josh May would make the move and take the lead on lap 12. May would go on and take his 6th win at Marshalltown. Larson would get disqualified in post race tech inspection moving up Mike Morrill to 2nd. Andy Hennigar, Randy Bryan and Mike Kennedy would round out the top 5.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods saw Travis Peterson take the early lead but it was 14 year old Sam Wieben finding his way around to take the lead on lap 5. Wieben’s lead would be short lived as the caution would fly because Gatlin Leytham would go flying off the top turns 3 and 4. When the racing got going Wieben would have to deal with Peterson and Racer Hulin. Hulin would get by Peterson and then pass Wieben for the lead on lap 7. Another race caution would come out on lap 9 but that wouldn’t affect him as he would continue to lead. On lap 15, Hulin would lose the handle in turns 1 and 2 forcing the caution to come out which would give the lead back to Wieben. Wieben would lead the remaining 3 laps to take his first career SportMod win. Ty Luellen, Jake Strayer, Scott Davis and Joel Rust rounded out the top 5.

In Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was the caution waving before 1 lap was completed and it was for Kevin Fee and Austin Luellen. On the restart it was Dustin Lynch leading lap 1. Josh Saunders would grab the lead away on lap 2 and then a lap later the caution would come out again this time for debris. Saunders would continue to lead and hold off challenges from Eric Knutson and Nic Shearer. Eric Larson would get by them and then get by Saunders to take the lead at the halfway point. Larson would go on and take the win with Saunders in 2nd. Tyler Pickett was 3rd, Scott Pippert was 4th and John Watson was 5th after the disqualification of Brice Udelhoven, who came across in 5th.

The Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars would see some fantastic racing through out the feature but it was the Murphy Brothers, Trent and Michael, getting to the front early. Trent Murphy would take the win in the feature that would go green-to-checkered with younger brother Michael Murphy in 2nd. Tracy Gienger was 3rd, Steve Meyer was 4th and Derek Reimer was 5th.

The final feature of the night was Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature saw Luke Wanninger taking the lead early and not look back despite the only race caution on lap 4 when Kyle Brown would go around in turn 2. Wanninger would lead all 20 laps to take the win, which would be win number 5 of the season. Jimmy Gustin would finish 2nd would also get credit with the win since Wanninger is running a test crate engine for IMCA so for Gustin it would be win number 6 at Marshalltown. Jon Snyder was 3rd, Adam Larson was 4th and Kyle Krampe was 5th.

In the King of the Hill it was the power of “J’s” because in round 1 it was Jake Strayer, Joel Rust, Jenae Gustin and Jared Van Deest taking the win. Round 2 saw Jake Strayer and Jenae Gustin. In the final it was a fantastic race between Strayer and Gustin and it would be Gustin prevailing and becoming the “Queen of the Hill” Champion.
