Sndyer and Schmidt Repeat on Racers Against ALS Night

Snyder and Schmidt Repeat on Racers Against ALS Night

By Jeremy Fox

Marshalltown, Iowa (July 19th,  2013) – On Friday Night, the gang from Racers Against ALS was in attendance to aware people about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which is a degenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, its also known to many people as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. They had t-shirts for sale and Former Iowa Hawkeye Football Player Brad Banks was on hand to sign some autographs. Meanwhile as for the racing on the track, the race track was wide and many races throughout the night they were racing two, three and even four wide.

David Moorman grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature when John Gill and Merv Chandler got together on the front stretch. That brought out the yellow and it was Moorman pulling away and really never looking back in the 10 lapper. Moorman took his first win since August 24th, 2012.  Chandler worked his way back up to finish second, Gill finished third, Joe Alday was fourth and Chad Larson was fifth.

In the Toby K’s Hideaway Mod Lites feature, it was Jimmy May grabbing the early lead but just after the completion of lap one the caution waved when Bryan Zehm came to a rest on the backstretch. May continued to lead until his son Josh May snuck by on lap five. Josh May went on to take his fifth win of the season at MoTown. Mike Morrill worked his way by Jimmy May for second. Andy Hennigar was fourth and Mike Kennedy was fifth.

Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Hobby Stocks feature saw Eric Larson grab the lead but just after the completion of lap one. Larson got a great restart however through the field they were racing pretty hard which lead to Jennifer Hulin to cut a left rear tire down. Just after the completion of lap two, Hulin was trying to get off the race track too a sharp right and spun out before rolling over, she climbed from the car but her night came to an end. Larson this time didn’t get quite as good restart as Eric Stanton stayed in tow before grabbing the lead on lap five by a bumper. Stanton finally grabbed the lead fully on lap six and went on to take his second win despite a caution with just three laps to go. Bill Bonnett started tenth but found his way in the runner up position. Eric Larson, Austin Luellen and Scott Durling rounded out the top five.

Johnathan Logue grabbed the lead on the opening lap in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature but it was Pella’s Jayme Duinink grabbing the lead on lap two. Duinink continued to lead until a caution waved on lap six. Duinink got a great restart and looked to be pulling way but the caution waved again on lap eight. This time it was Eric Elliott, who started in eleventh, getting the great restart as he snuck by Duinink for the top spot. Elliott went on to lead the remaining laps despite a late race caution that set up a three lap dash to the finish, for Elliott that was win number two at MoTown. Brad Iverson came home in second, Travis Peterson worked his way through the field after starting twelveth to finish third. Jenae Gustin started tenth and finish fourth and Joel Rust started twenty-fourth and wound up to finish fifth.

Jay Schmidt grabbed the lead right away in the Amsoil IMCA Stock Car feature and just after the completion of lap one the caution waved. Schmidt got a great restart despite Damon Murty being on his back bumper but they saw the caution wave again on lap three. Schmidt and Murty began to pull away from Jeff Wollam and Eric Knutson until the caution on lap thirteen. Schmidt held off the late race challenges from Murty to go on take his fourth win in a row at MoTown. Damon Murty worked his way from ninth to second, Eric Knutson came home in third, Chris Wiltse found his way to fourth and Jeff Wollam was fifth.

Final Feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature saw Zach Rawlins grabbing the lead and he appeared to be pulling away but the caution waved on lap thirteen. Rawlins had to deal with Jon Snyder and Cayden Carter, Snyder got the great restart and went on to take the top spot. Only thing denying Snyder the win was the caution on lap fifteen. Snyder manage to get a great restart on the final restart and went on to take his second win of the season in as many weeks at MoTown. Cayden Carter, Zach Rawlins, Darin Duffy and Ronn Lauritzen rounded out the top 5.

Next week the speedway will be Johnny Ray’s Bar & Grille Night at the Races. Grandstands are $9 for Adults, Children 11 and under is $2. Hot Laps at 7 pm and Racing at 7:30 pm
