Saturday Thoughts from Foxman

As I sit here on a Saturday Morning thinking about i how i should be getting ready to complete night four of the Frostbuster but instead it will be another Night trying to find something to do.  Its that time of the season everybody gets grumpy about races getting cancelled when its sunny out because we are all tired of old man winter.

Wednesday Night opened the Frostbuster Series Swing at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. 93 cars signed in from 11 states: Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Michigan, Arizona, North Carolina, Montana, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Read the recap at:  http://foxman1987.blogspot.com/2016/03/brown-takes-thriller-at-night-one.html

Benton County Speedway was scheduled to race on Thursday but the rain on Wednesday Night and again on Thursday forced Promoter Mick Trier, Race Director Mike Van Genderen and Track Prep Master Don Burkey to cancel the Frostbuster. Which was a great decision because it kept being gloomy and rainy all day long.

Over Night Thursday Night and early morning on Friday was too much for the Marshalltown Speedway and promoter Toby Kruse was forced to cancel despite the Sunshine shining shortly after the cancellation was made. Just not enough drying time with the sunshine and wind and parts of the track being nearly impossible.

After the cancellations of Vinton's and Marshalltown's Frostbuster, the decision was made to move Boone's Frostbuster to next week forcing a Three Night Swing next week: Marshalltown on Friday, Boone on Saturday and Benton County Speedway on Sunday. Boone however had plans to race on Saturday with a IMCA Special which i was going to dub "The Windbreaker"

On to the this morning, Boone decided to pull the plug on racing tonight. While this makes many upset about no racing tonight but if you believed everything weathermen say then you all should be a weatherman.

I can tell you race tracks want to race just as bad if not more than the fans or drivers but there is somethings that go way beyond racing. I do not the reason Boone cancelled but with it being windy and cold, yes i know they knew that for days this is Iowa and the forecast can change five minutes from now.  Today in Boone....High of 47 with Sunny skies but Windy NW 25-35 mph and gust to 40 making it feel like 35 after the sun goes down Temperatures drop into the upper 30's and wind chills close to freezing.  Yes i have been to races where it is freezing in the last almost 20 years.

Instead of putting a track or tracks down thank them for trying. If they raced and track was rough, i am sure you would be bitching too so damn if you and damn if you do not. I know of some tracks that are available and a few more that will be available soon if you think you can promote.

Want to still race this weekend well tomorrow its the Hancock County Speedway in Britt is racing. Modifieds $1,000 to win, Stock Cars $750 to win, SportMods and Hobby Stocks $500 to win and Sport Compacts $250 to win.  Entry fees are $30 for Modifieds, $25 for Stock Cars, Northern SportMods and Hobby Stocks, and $20 for Sport Compacts. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults. Pit passes are $25. Hot Laps at 4pm and Racing to Follow!

Support your dirt track racing.......Another thing every time i hear a driver or fan say i am never coming back well then i would be rich and have a winter home some where warm because i think promoters hear that every week.

Now since i have not blogged much since last year wanted to make this known if you do not follow me on Twitter or Facebook but the end of February and Early March i left the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday Nights to become the new Track Announcer at the Iowa State Fair Speedway presented by Hy-Vee, Fueled by Casey's and Driven by Karl Performance. I will start that new role on Friday Night April 15th. I will continue my roles as a fill-in at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Announcer for the Midwest Dirt Kart Challenge Series and Announcer at the Stuart Speedway.

So my schedule for next week (weather permitting
):

Wednesday April 6 - Southern Iowa Speedway in Osky

Friday April 8 - Marshalltown Speedway
Saturday April 9 - Midwest Dirt Kart Challenge in Downing, MO
Sunday April 10 - Benton County Speedway in Vinton
