by Jeremy Fox

Vinton, Iowa (July 31st, 2016) - Why not making three nights in a row at the races? Sunday Night, I headed off to the Benton County Speedway for Down Syndrome Night. The kids got to join in the fun as there was kids rides at Intermission plus 15 bikes were given away courtesy of the Swanson Family.

71 cars signed in to claim victory on night #15 of racing in Vinton. Feature Winners included Don Erger, Damon Murty, Danny Dvorak, Ryan Maitland and Nathan Ballard.

First feature was the BCS Micro Mods 12 lap feature and it was Derrick Knutsen and Kaden Reynolds led the field to the green but after the intial start was called back it was Don Erger grabbing the top spot. Only thing slowing Erger down was the red flag on lap two for Russ Olson spinning in turn one and then Scott Beatty flipped, Olson was able to continue but Beatty had some mechanical issues preventing him from continuing. Erger got a great restart and never looked back cruising to 11th win of the season at Vinton and fourth in a row. Cole McNeal took second, Reynolds was third, Dallon Murty was fourth and Knutsen was fifth.

Buck Swanson grabbed the top spot early in the IMCA Stock Cars 16 lap feature however Mitchell Evens was right there and began to challenge for the top spot. Evens took the lead away on lap three but it was short lived as Curtis Roster took it away on lap five. The caution came out just after the completion of lap five when Lon Mercer spun in turn four. Roster lead until he had a flat tire forcing him to head to the pits giving the lead over to Damon Murty. Roster was lucky though as the caution came out just after lap nine for Evens and Swanson on the backstretch, allowing him to return to the track. Murty saw the caution come out one more time on lap 13 for Scooter Dulin in turn three but Murty was not going to be denied his seventh win at BCS in 2016. Scott Pippert got by Justin Stander for second at the line, Roster came back to finish fourth and Norman Chesmore was fifth.

Curt Hilmer started inside row two of the 16 lap IMCA Northern SportMods feature but by the end of lap one, he was the leader. However just after the first lap was completed the caution came out for Kyle Olson, Gage Neal and Christian Jordan spinning in turn one. Hilmer continued to lead until the caution came out again on lap six for emergency in the grandstands. Danny Dvorak had worked his way through the field and took the top spot away on the restart and it was Dvorak holding on to take his second win on his home track. Matt Petrzelka took second, Hilmer fell back to third, Kurt Hogan was fourth and Tony Olson worked his way back up to finish fifth after he had a flat tire on lap one.

Dennis Betzer led the first lap of the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature but it was Shawn Ritter taking the lead on lap two. Ritter saw Patrick Flannagan work his way around Betzer to battle for the lead and it was Flannagan taking the lead on lap eight. However just after that the two made contact in turn one bring the caution out, that gave the lead over to Tony Snyder. Snyder saw Ryan Maitland on his back bumper and it was Maitland taking the lead away on lap 13. Maitland led the remaining laps to take his first win at BCS in 2016. Ronn Lauritzen was second ahead of Snyder, Scott Hogan and Brandon Maitland.

Final feature of the night had the largest field of 19 cars and that was 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event. Brian Happel started outside row one and by the end of lap one it was Happel in the top spot but Nathan Ballard worked his way from eighth to second by lap two. The caution came out on lap three for Michael Kimm sitting on the back stretch. Ballard took the lead away from Happel on lap six and just after that, Happel spun in turn two bring out the caution. Ballard saw the caution come out twice just after lap seven was scored, first for a tire in turn four and then for Adam Petrzelka on the front stretch. Just after lap eight was scored the caution came out again when Kyle Dulin and Scott Siems got together in turn three. Ballard got a great restart but the caution came out one final time on lap 11 for Matt Brown in turn two. Ballard was not going to be denied seventh win. Brett Vanous, Matt Pohlman, Justin Wacha and Leah Wroten rounded out the top five.
