As 2009 comes to an end and 2010 comes rolling in!

In 2009, It was a lot of fun doing weekly blogs during the summer recapping the past weeks racing adventures. There was so many races i was looking forward to go to but time didn't allow it but in 2010 i am going to try to make it happen.

In 2009 i had fun attending races at Marshalltown, Des Moines, Vinton, Stuart, Boone, Knoxville and Allison.

I am planning to attend all the thoses tracks again in 2010 plus many more. I am planning to attend Alta, Allison, Britt, Boone, Webster City, Independence, Des Moines, Vinton, Stuart, Knoxville, Oskaloosa and maybe many others in iowa. I am also going to attend races at the North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN when i am on vacation in Minnesota around memorial day weekend.

As 2010 rolls in, we all start counting down to the start of racing here in the upper midwest.

I wish everybody a happy new year and lets go racing!

Don't Forget the 2nd Annual Battle at the Barn on January 22-23 at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines.

Skinner Wins in a Dominating Fashion in the Truck Race at Iowa

Earlier in the day the Nascar Camping World Truck Series would run their final practice session to get ready for qualifying for the Lucas Oil 200 and for the Lucas Oil 200.

When it was time for some more track action is was time with the qualifying for the Lucas Oil 200. Mike Skinner in the #5 Toyota of Des Moines Toyota Tundra would set the Truck Series Track Record with a speed of 137.052 mph. TJ Bell was 2nd quickest with a speed of 136.057 mph, Matt Crafton was 3rd quickest with a speed of 135.846, Colin Braun had a speed of 135.793 in 4th and Johnny Sauter was 5th with a speed of 135.251 mph.

Then it would be time for the pre-race concert from country singer Luke Bryan. Then the Driver Introductions would take place on the front stretch just shortly after 8 pm.

When the race would get going Matt Crafton would jump from his 3rd place starting spot to the lead. After he did take the lead the first caution would come on lap 1. This caution would last for 4 laps. Crafton would resume command of the lead but just after they restarted another caution would come out this time for 3 trucks getting together in 1 & 2. The race would resume on lap 10.

Crafton would continue to lead it but on lap 18, Mike Skinner would make the pass on Crafton and begin to coast away until a caution on lap 57 would bunch the field. This caution was for debris on the backstretch, the race would resume on lap 63.

Skinner would maintain the top spot but would see another caution come out on lap 73 which would last until lap 78. They would resume and see the next caution come out on lap 109 when David Starr and Stacy Compton get together in turns 1 & 2. During this caution, Skinner would lose the lead to Aric Almirola after a round of pit stops on lap 114. The green would come back out on lap 116.

Almirola would be passed by Skinner on lap 117. The next caution came out on lap 126 when Jason White got together with Todd Bodine on the Front Stretch. This caution period lasted until lap 132.

Skinner would continue to lead and appeared to be cruising to the victory and the only thing slowing him was lap trucks until the final race caution came out on lap 192 for debris on the front stretch. They would resume the race on lap 196. Skinner would cruise on to the victory.

Finishing behind Skinner was Aric Almirola, Colin Braun, Ron Hornaday Jr and Johnny Sauter.

The next race at the Iowa Speedway is the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Race and the ASA Late Model Series Race on Saturday September 19th, Counrty Superstar Billy Currington will perform in concert.

Marshalltown Crowns 2009 Track Champions

Racing would heat up on the chilly night at the Marshalltown Speedway. It would be annual North 3rd Ave Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championships. The night would be picture perfect weather wise and a full moon in the sky. It would bring drivers from Farmington, New Mexico and Dawson County, Nebraska. One driver was Regan Tafoya, nicknamed the "Fastest Barber" from New Mexico , drove 23 hours to get here but would blow up in hot laps and we also had the Hoing Family, Robert and Greg from Nebraska come and race.

The night would bring an end to the 2009 track points standings. We would have out of the car driver introductions and Australian Pursuit races, that would be added thrills to the fans plus a little added bonus if the front row would take the promotor challenge and go to the rear. All the features would have an added 5 laps being its season championship night.

The first feature of the night would be the Dwarf Car/Mod Lites for their 20 lap feature. Mike Morrill and Mike Kennedy would both elect not to take the challenge and stay up front. Morrill came in with a 84 point advantage over Kennedy. Morrill would take the lead and the only things slowing him down was a caution, lap cars and a battle with Tim Hennigar. The only race caution came out on lap 14 for debris in turn 4, this would allow Tim Hennigar to restart on the back bumper of Morrill. Morrill was able to hold him off for his 10th win of the season at Marshalltown, Tim Hennigar was 2nd, Mike Kennedy was 3rd, Andy Hennigar 4th and Randy Bryan 5th. With Morrill's win and Kennedy finishing 3rd, Morrill would win the track championship by 86 points.

The Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks was up nextfor their 17 lap feature. Devin Smith and Michael Murphy would both chose to not take the promotor challenge . Smith came in with a 3 point advantage over Murphy. Smith would jump in to the race lead and for the first half of the race would have to handle cautions and the 2nd half of the race dealing with the lap cars. 3 cautions would come out, first on lap 2 which resulted in a red flag when Adam Rickett flipped off of turn 1 & 2. The next caution came out on lap 5 when John Schuring spun in turn 4 and the last caution came out on lap 8 when Michael Murphy blows up and stops on the run off road. Smith would go on and lead the entire 17 laps, getting his 6th win of the year at Marshalltown and winning the track championship by 12 points over Terry Shaffar, who finished 2nd, Murphy would fall to 3rd in the final standings and 24 points back with a 22nd place finish. Todd Reitzler was 3rd, Nick Murty moved up 20 spots to finish 4th and Clint Nelson would move up 7 spots to finish 5th.

Next up was the Dwarf Car Australian Pursuit, Josh May would get passed on the final lap by Mike Morrill, Morril would win the Australian Pursuit. Dusty Masolini, David Schmalzried, Joel Huggins, Mike Kennedy, Jimmy May, Johnny Mordock and Josh May were eliminated in that order.

Coming out next was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods for their 20 lap feature. Kevin Sather and Scott Davis would also decline to take the challenge. Before one lap was completed, Shawn Simatovich and Scott Durlin would come together in turn 2. Finally when they did get going Davis would jump out to the lead, he would engage in numerous battles with Sather. Another caution would come out on lap 8 when Ryan Engelkes spun in turn 3. The next catuion came out on lap 10 when Lauren Vis and Herbie Wilson would spin around in turn 3, Durlin and Jade Robinson would drive of fthe top to avoid making contact. Davis would maintain the lead through it all and resume command and go on to the victory. It would be Davis's 3rd win of the season at Marshalltown. Sather finished 2nd and would win the track championship by 3 points over Davis. Jake Strayer, Kyle Brown and Shawn Hunter would round out the top 5.

Then it was time for the Junction Bar & Grille Hobby Stock Australian Pursuit, Devin Smith would go on to the victory and Dustin Elliott would get 2nd. Others were eliminated in this order: Josh Saunders, Eric Knutson, Todd Reitzler, Jennifer Hulin, Eric Larson and Terry Shaffar.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars was up next for their 23 lap feature. Dustin Smith and Jeff Wollam would both decline to take the challenge. Smith came in the night with track championship already in his hands as he came in with a 75 point advantage. Jeff Wollam would jump out to the race lead and appeared to be going on to the victory on the night in the honor of his father, despite holding of Smith numerous times. The first of 2 cautions came out on lap 7 when Damon Murty came to a stop in turn 1 & 2. On the restart Wollam and Smith would continue to battle for the top spot, Wollam would lead until lap 11 when Smith was scored the leader and then Wollam took back the lead on lap 12 but Smith would give up as Smith would make the pass on lap 19 for the lead. The final caution would come out on lap 22 when Trevor Titus and Eric Flander would get together in turns 1 & 2. Smith would go on and win number 11 at Marshalltown and win the track championship by 76 points over Wollam, who finished 2nd. Michael Jeannetter was 3rd, Tracy Gienger came home 4th and Steve Meyer was 5th.

Then it was time for the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mod Australian Pursuit. Bill Hildreth would start out front and not be passed and go on to the victory. Other Participants was Jake Strayer, Scott Davis, Brad Iverson, Zach Rawlins, Kyle Brown and Shawn Hunter.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature. Jimmy Gustin and Jon Snyder would be the front row unless one took the challenge. Gustin elected to take the challenge to go to the rear so that would move Adam Larson to the pole position. Jon Snyder would look to be going on to victory but would be passed by Adam Larson on lap 18 of the feature event. Jimmy Gustin would start at the back and would come up and finish 3rd in the green-to-checkered feature. Scott Simatovich and Jay Schmidt rounded out the top 5.

Up next was the Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars Australian Pursuit. Don Vis would lead the first 5 laps then would be passed by Steve Meyer and Jeff Wollam. Wollam would pass Meyer for the win. Other participants were Tracy Gienger and Rob Schneider.

The final event of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds Australian Pursuit. Brett Ladehoff would lead the entire 8 laps, Tim Murty would end up 2nd and Scott Simatovich was 3rd. Other participants were Jimmy Gustin, Jay Schmidt and Jon Snyder.

Track Points have come to an end but racing action at Marshalltown hasn't as the track will sit idle while track officials prepare for the 3rd Annual Havoc on the High Banks on Friday and Saturday September 18th & 19th.

"The River City Hustler" Takes the Miller Lite 50 Showdown in Mo'Town

What a way to kick of the "Month of Money" at the Marshalltown Speedway then with a make-up rescheduled Deery Brother Summer Series race for the IMCA Late Models and their annual Miller Lite 50 sponsored by H&F Distributing of Marshalltown. Also joining in on the fun was the IMCA Sport Mods and thanks to Kellogg Lawn and Snow they would run for $500 to win, the Mod Lites would run for $250 to win and the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks for their first of 3 appearances at Marshalltown in September for $250 to win.

The drivers and fans would be treated with a very racy race track that would bring excitement throughout the evening. A total of 79 cars signed in the pits on this tuesday night at motown, 23 sport mods, 30 late models, 15 dwarf cars, 11 dirt trucks. The Sport Mods were running for IMCA points only, Dwarf Cars were running for MADCRA points and the dirt trucks were running for Dirt Truck Racing Associaton Points.

The first feature of the night was the Mod Lite/Dwarf Cars for 15 laps. Dusty Masolini and Jeff Stensland would start on the front row but Tim Hennigar would take the race lead and go on to win in the green-to-checkered feature event. This was Hennigars 2nd win of the season at motown. Mike Morrill, who started 9th would end up 2nd. Others rounding out the top 5 were Randy Bryan, he started 8th, Joel Huggins and Johnny Mordock.

Up Next was the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks for their first of 3 appearances at the 1/4 mile with their 15 lap feature event. Ed Nelson and Brian Murray would lead the field to the green. Murray would take the lead on the first lap but Nelson would make the pass on lap 2. The only caution came out on lap 4 when Bob Murray spun around on the backstretch after the 1 of Bryan Nevins Jr would make contact with him, both of them were sent to the tail. Nelson would go on and cruise to the victory. Brian Murray would hold on to 2nd despite challenges from Bret Moyer. Carl Moyer would come home in 4th and Rick Clark in 5th.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods then would come out for 18 laps. Austin Kaplan and Curt Hilmer would sit on the front row. Kaplan would jump to the lead and look to be cruising away with the win but then a caution on lap 9 would come out when Gaitlin Leytham stop on the backstretch. On the restart, Kaplan would have to do battles with Scott Davis and Kevin Sather. Davis would make the pass on Kaplan on lap 12, Sather would try to follow suit but would get together with Kaplan and spin in turn 1 on lap 13 bring out another caution. Davis would go on to the win, his 3rd of the season in motown. Kaplan would end up 2nd, Sather would finish 10th. Luke Wanninger was 3rd, Zach Rawlins was 4th and Geoff Olson was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the main event, the "Miller Lite 50" for the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models. 30 cars signed in so 4 heats, 2 b features, 3 deery provisionals and 1 hard charger provisional would be used to determine the field of 24 cars. "The River City Hustler" Ray Guss Jr and Rob Toland would lead the field to the green flag. Guss would jump to the race lead. The first caution came out on lap 4 when the 12J TJ Criss would spin in turn 2. Guss would maintain the lead and had times would have a straightaway lead but then cautions would bunch up the field again when a caution came out on lap 28 when Justin Kay would come to a stop on the run off road and then on lap 31 for debris in turn 4.

Guss continued to lead, meanwhile hard charging deery series point leader Jeff Aikey was making his way through the field. The next caution would come out on lap 37 for debris in turn 1. Guss and Aikey would begin to battle it out, Guss on the bottom and Aikey right on the cushion. Aikey would take over the lead on lap 40 official and be scored as the leader the next few laps even though him and Guss was side-by-side. 2 more cautions would fall 1 on lap 41 when Corey Zeitner spun in turn 2 and then lap 43 when Craig Jacobs spun in turn 2. Aikey still continued to lead and him and Guss continued to battle side-by-side. As the field was coming to get the flying green with 2 to go, Aikey jumped the cushion in turns 3 & 4 handing the lead back over to Guss. Guss would take the win, his 4th deery series win of the season. Point Leader Jeff Aikey would get 2nd. Todd Cooney and Terry Neal, each moved up 9 spots to finish 3rd and 4th, Jason Frankel moved up 13 spots to finish 5th.

Schoenberger was the 2005 Super National champion in the stock car division and Murray is the all time IMCA win leader with a total of over 400-carere wins to his credit.

The biggest question of the night once again was how much would the rain in the days before effect the racing surface, how would the racing surface be?

Once the racing action got going the Central Iowa Stock Car Club of Iowa Nostaglia Cars would come out first for their 10 lap feature. Jim Clayton would take the victory with track veteran John Schroyer in 2nd and Pudge Grabull in 3rd.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were up next for their 15 lap feature, 28 cars signed in so 4 heats and a b feature would be used to get the field down to 24 cars. Michael Grantham would take the early race lead and would lead the first 6 laps but then the first of 3 cautions came out when Ryan Engelkes spun in turn 2 and debris on the backstretch. On the restart Grantham would lose the lead to Brad Iverson and be passed by Kevin Sather as well but Iverson was called for jumping the restart so Sather was being scored the leader. The next caution came out on lap 8 when Grantham spun in 1 & 2. Sather would take over the lead, another caution would come out 2 laps later when Lauren Vis spun in turn 4. Sather would go on to take the win but would have to battle with his cousin Austin Kaplan late in the race. Sather and Kaplan was 1 & 2, Jake Strayer was 3rd, Brad Iverson was 4th and Neil Follett was 5th. For Sather it was win #10 of the season at Marshalltown, he would also take over the point lead as Scott Davis finished 10th.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars came out next for their 18 lap race. Veteran Tommy Thompson would lead the first 3 laps. Thompson was passed by Dave Smith on lap 4. Dave Smith would begin a battle with his brother and track point leader Dustin Smith through out the remainder of this event. Dustin would make the pass on Dave on lap 15 and go on and get the win in the green-to checkered feature. It would be win #10 of the season at marshalltown for Dustin Smith and it would also give him the track championship. Finishing behind the Smith brothers was Jeff Wollam, Dusty Vis and Damon Murty.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds came out for their 20 lapper. Kyle Krampe would take the early race lead and would lead until the first caution came out on lap 5 when Mike O'Lear and Tim Murty got together in turn 1, David Murray and Jason Schoenberger both drove off the top turn 1 & 2 but kept moving so they were not penalized. David Murray was 2nd, Jimmy Gustin was 3rd, Adam Larson was 4th and Jon Snyder was 5th.

The final feature of the night was for the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks and it was for 12 laps. Dustin Filloon would take the early lead in the race and would lead the first 3 laps. The first caution came out on lap 2 though and it was because Mike Vibbard spun in turn 2. Mo'town Missile victorious in Marshalltown on Custom Concrete Night

This friday night would just be like any other friday night, once again we would have to battle with mother nature and the amount of rain that fell down during the morning. Once again Promotor Toby Kruse and the track prep crew would do the perfect job of getting the track into shape and making it wide, smooth and fast despite all the rain. So this Custom Concrete Night at the Races wouldn't be anything different.

The talk all day i heard from most drivers and fans was how the racing surface would be.

The night would bring great racing action. This would also have the Vintage Coupes on hand and the dwarf car king of the hill. In the Vintage Coupes there was a total 9 cars on hand, no results were kept.

Dwarf Car/Mod Lites were up first for their 15 lap feature event, 14 cars would sign in. Joel Huggins would lead the first lap but would be passed by Randy Bryan on lap 2. Huggins wouldn't give up though as he would take the lead back from Bryan on lap 7. The only caution of the feature came out on lap 11 when Mike Kennedy spun in the exit of turn 2. Huggins wouldn't let the caution faze him as he would go on and get another victory. Tim Hennigar would pass Bryan for 2nd, Bryan ended up 3rd, Josh May and Johnny Mordock was 4th and 5th.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were up next for their 15 lap feature, 26 cars signed in so that meant all cars going to the a feature. This feature would see a total of 4 cautions, first on lap 3 for Michael Grantham and Adam Shelman get together in turn 2, then on lap 5 when Gaitlin Leytham spun in turn 2, then lap 9 when Luke Wanninger stopped in the exit of turn 4 and then on lap 10 when Lauren Vis spun in turn 1. Up next is the Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars for their 18 lap feature event, 23 cars signed in. This feature even would also have 4 cautions. Trevor Titus would lead lap 1 but would be passed by Aaron Haggerty on lap 2. Titus and Haggerty would get together on lap 3, Titus would be sent to the pits for aggressive driving, Haggerty would come to a stop in turn 2. Rob Schneider would inherit the lead on the restart. After another lap was completed another caution would come out this time for Kevin Rose in turn 2. Schneider resumed command in the lead, he would see 2 more cautions and have to hold off challenges from Jeff Wollam and Dustin Smith. The next caution came out on lap 7 when Todd Kearney stop in turn 3 on the track exit and the last caution came out on lap 15 when Eric Flanders spun in turn 3. Schneider would take the win, Wollam would finish 2nd, Dusty Vis would finish 3rd, Aaron Haggerty would end up 4th and Damon Murty in a borrowed race car would finish home in 5th.

Tonight in the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds, the winner would take home $500 to win and a 5 foot trophy. They had 24 cars sign in and almost all of them started the a main. In this feature only one caution would slow our feature winner and that came out on lap 5 when Andrew Kinser spun in turn 2. But tonight was the night for the Phoenix E-Waste Solutions/Rob Chambers Motorsports/Nitefly Designs Dirtworks Chassis car #12X of "The Mo'town Missile" Brett Ladehoff. Ladehoff would lead all 20 laps and outdistance himself from the rest of the lead cars. This would be Ladehoff's first win at Motown since August 1st, 2008. Last event of the evening was the America's Best Value Inn Dwarf Car King of the Hill. The scheduled first round match ups were Jeff Stensland/Joel Huggins, Johnny Mordock/Mike Morrill, Andy Hennigar/Josh May and Jimmy May/Dusty Masolini but Stensland, Hennigar and Jimmy May all scratched so Eric Hendrickson would join in the fun as he was 5th in his heat race so the first round match ups were Mordock and Huggins in which Mordock would beat Huggins, Josh May and Morrill in which Morrill would beat May and Hendrickson and Masolini with Masolini taking the win. Mordock and Morrill would face off and Morrill would take the win and move on to the final to face Masolini, who received a bye in the final round. Murphy Brothers Takes Wins On a Very Hot Night In Boone

I decided to continue my racing weekend be heading to the Boone Speedway for a weekly show. On this hot day and night it brought some great racing action on the race track. The track was fast and smooth but patients took a big part of moving through the field.

After all the heats and the sport mod b feature was completed they did there normal farm work to get the track ready for feature time and the Cliff Barber Memorial Candy Dash. This would see a winner match up a win from Marshalltown on Friday, winners repeat with another win at boone and brothers win for the first time on the same night

The first feature of the night was the Dwarf Car/Mod Lite for their 12 lap feature, Joel Huggins jumped to the early race lead and held on to the victory, making it 2 wins in 2 nights. The Only thing slowing him was a caution that came out on lap 8 when Johnny Mordock and Mike Thomas got together in turn 2 and battles with "Busman" Mike Kennedy and Team mate Eric Hendrickson. Hendrickson would finish 2nd and Kennedy was 3rd, Duane Coffman was 4th and Visitor Jason Masengarb would come home 5th.

Murphy after wrecking the car on friday in marshalltown, he would spend along day in the garage that would pay off as he would take the victory. Brauckman would end up 2nd, Larry Crocheck was 3rd, Bill Reetz was 4th and Wayne Gifford was 5th.

Another Action Filled Night Of Racing at Marshalltown on Engelkes Racing Night

On this night one thing that would be the same as almost any other race night at Marshalltown would be the battle with good ole mother nature and once again it would throw a wrench and a curve ball at Promotor Toby Kruse. It would certainly make it unique for every body, rain would return before the night end but would let the show get completed.
