Stensland Farms Night Brought Wild Racing Action On The Track

This week would be the Annual Central Iowa Fair going on an it was Stensland Farms Night at the Races. This night would also be night number 13 for the 2010 season to be completed. We would see some great competition on the race track.

The heat races and b-features would be run without any major incidents, however the features were a different story.

In the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites 15 lap feature, Before they would get one lap in the books the first caution came out when Travis Stensland and Jason Hall spun around. When they got going Charlie Brown took the lead early but another caution would come out after 1 lap down when the 57 of Tim Hennigar, 88 of James May and 5X of Matthew Goodin spun in turn 2 and went off the back stretch, mean while a red flag came out because we had 3 cars roll in turn 4 and they were Hall, Colby Oberemebt and Eric Hendrickson. Once everything was cleaned up racing resumed and Brown continued to lead. After 2 laps were completed another caution came out when Cory Sonner spun in turn 2.

Another race caution came out on lap 8 for debris on the backstretch. However on the restart Brown would have to hold off Josh May, he was able to do that until lap 12 when May took the lead and never looked back despite a challenge by Mike Morrill. The last race caution came out on lap 13 for Kent Efkamp spinning in turn 3. May took the win, Morrill was 2nd, Tim Hennigar finished 3rd, Charile Brown and Mike Kennedy was 4th and 5th.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature, The Young Gun from Des Moines Nick Roberts would take the race lead early and set pace but then the first caution came out on lap 5 when Ryan Engelkes came to a stop on the run off road. On the restart Roberts would have to deal with Eric Elliott. Elliott would take the lead on lap 5 but Roberts would say not so fast and make the move to take back the top spot. The final race caution came out on lap 10 for Cody Moore going off turn 2. Roberts wouldn't let it faze him as he would go on and take the win, Kyle Brown would take 2nd. Scott Davis, Cayden Carter and Geoff Olson rounded out the top 5.

"Class To Tough To Tame" Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature, Trevor Titus would take the lead in his number 36 Ford Thunderbird to the lead but the only race caution came out on lap 4 when Damon Murty would spin on the back stretch. When the race resumed Titus would lose the lead to the 3W of Jeff Wollam. Wollam and Titus would then see Dustin Smith make it a 3 car battle for the top spot, Wollam would lead the laps until lap 10 when Dustin Smith made the pass for the lead and the win. Wollam was 2nd, Steve Meyer was 3rd, Trent Murphy was 4th and Tracy Gienger was 5th.

In the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature, Rod Clement would lead the first 3 laps but he would be passed by IMCA Modified Rookie Luke Wanninger on lap 4. Wanninger would cruise to the win in the green-to-checkered feature. Wanninger would have Jimmy Gustin, Jay Schmidt, Rod Clement and Tim Murty finishing behind him to round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature. Before 1 lap was completed "The Wild Woman" Jennifer Hulin would roll her hobby stock off of the back stretch, she would be okay and want to continue, she would end up coming back, her crew got 3 tires changed in 5 laps. Mean while on the race track Clint Nelson would take the early race lead but Devin Smith would just jump in to cruise control and take over the top spot on lap 5. 2 cautions would be the only thing slowing him down, first on lap 9 for Matt Hedespeth stopping in turn 2 and then on lap 10 for Clint Nelson in turn 2. Smith would still maintain and take the win. Michael Murphy, Eric Knutson, Calvin Dhondt and Eric Larson would complete the top 5.

Racing action came to an end just a little after 10:15.

Next Friday Night will be Hy-Vee Night/Hogeland Auto Plaza Kids Night plus Spectator Eliminators Part 2. Racing action continues with Pits opening at 5:15, Grandstands at 5:30, Hot Laps at 6:45, Racing at 7:30!

Hessert wins Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway

Before the ARCA Series presented by Re-Max and Menards could get rolling they had to qualify for the pole and winning the pole for the Prairie Meadows 200 was Richard Childress's Grandson Ty Dillon beating out Tom Hessert for the pole.

After the ARCA Series qualifying it was time for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 200 Race. Winning the pole for the race was also Richard Childress' Grandson Austin Dillon with a speed of 135.263 mph. Making a clean sweep for the pole by the Dillon Brothers. Aric Almirola was 2nd quickest. Stacy Compton, Brian Icklor and Johnny Sauter round out the top 5 in qualifying. Todd Bodine was 9th, Matt Crafton was 10th, Mike Skinner was 15th and Ron Hornaday was 19th.

It was then time for the Prairie Meadows 200. After the pre-race activities were completed it was time to fire up the engines but before the entire field did, In honor of this race being Frank Kimmel's 400 career ARCA Series Start, his family had him fire up his engine before the rest of the field did.

Ty Dillon would take advantage of that pole and take the lead for the first 8 laps anyways, he would be passed by Tom Hessert on lap 9 for the lead.

Hessert would begin to pull away a little bit and start lapping cars, this would allow the 2nd & 3rd place cars to catch up.

The first race caution came out on lap 38 when Mikey Kile and Pierre Borque getting together in turn 2, the race would get resuming on lap 45.

Hessert would continue to remain out front as many of the drivers on the lead lap stayed on the track during the caution period.

The second race caution came out on lap 52 when Steve Arpin would lose breaks in his Mike's Hard Lemonade and hit the turn 3 wall. The race would get resuming on lap 57.

Max Gresham would pass Tom Hessert on the restart, a lead Gresham would hold on to until lap 90 after some pit stops. A caution would come out on lap 87 when Bobby Gerhart and Iowa Native Joey Gase would get together in turns 1 and 2. The caution would be displayed until lap 95.

However Gresham lost the lead to Tim George Jr on lap 90. George's lead would be short lived because when the race would get back going Matt Crafton, who is doing double duty this weekend at Iowa Speedway, would take the lead.

Crafton would hold on to the top spot until lap 124 when he was passed by Tom Hessert. A lead Hessert wouldn't give up despite the last race caution coming out on lap 152 for debris in turn 3.

Hessert took the win, Ty Dillon was 2nd, Grant Efinger was 3rd, Dakoda Armstrong was 4th and Crafton ended up 5th. Frank Kimmel got 6th in his 400th career start.

Ladehoff and Davis Makes It Back-To-Back Weeks at Marshalltown!

We were back to the "High Banks" of Marshalltown for some great racing action on Budweiser Night at the Races. We would see a good field of cars sign in the pits. We had a total of 119 race cars, 21 Mod Lites, 33 Sport Mods, 14 Stock Cars, 22 Modifieds and 29 Hobby Stocks.

In the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites 15 lap feature, Colby Oberemebt would take the early race lead but Dusty Masolini would grab the top spot a lap later. Then our first race caution when Ivan Guerra would break something in the front end and go off the backstretch into the dirt pile. Masolini would continue to lead but the field would see the caution come out a lap or two later when Tim Sutherland would spin in turn 2. Masolini would still maintain the top spot but Josh May would be reeling him in, it took until lap 8 for May to reel in Masolini and lap traffic would be a factor this would allow May to make the move and pass on Masolini on lap 9. On lap 11 another caution came out for Travis Stensland spinning on the backstretch, the last caution came out for Eric Hendrickson spun on the front stretch. May wouldn't allow those cautions affect him as he would cruise on to the win, Tim Hennigar would slip by Masolini for 2nd. Masolini was 3rd, Mike Kennedy and Mike Morrill was 4th and 5th.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods had 33 cars sign in so it took 4 heats and a b-feature to determine the field down to 24 cars for their 15 lap feature. Well the initial start would be called back then when we would get going Shawn Simatovich spun in turn 2 bringing out the yellow again before 1 lap was in the books. So we would try it again or so we thought as 10 cars would spin out in turn 1 & 2 bringing out the yellow again. When we got going finally, Nick Roberts would take the lead, he look to be pulling away while Scott Davis was making his way through the field. Davis would catch up to Roberts just as the caution came out on lap 7 when Brett Moffitt was spun out in turn 2 by Kyle Brown, Brown was black flagged for Rough Driving and came in the pits hot and crashed into the safety fence. Mean while on the restart, Roberts would continue to lead but Davis would make the pass for the lead on lap 10. Shortly after Davis took the lead the caution came out for debris in turn 1. Davis and the field would see another caution a lap later for debris in turn 2. Davis would go on and get his 2nd win in as many weeks. Nick Roberts, Jason Seaverance, Eric Flander and Gatlin Leytham round out the top 5.

Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature, John Emerson would take the lead early as he was 3 wheeling his stock car through the turns. Steve Meyer would pass Emerson on lap 4 for the lead. Meyer would look to be cruising on to the win but then a caution on lap 7 for Trevor Titus spinning in turn 4 then 3 laps later for Tracy Gienger in turn 1. Meyer however would not be able to hold off Dustin Smith, who started 13th, on lap 16. Smith would go on and take the win, Meyer would take 2nd. Trent Murphy, Rick Brown and Tommy Thompson was 3rd throught 5th.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature, would see the "Mo'town Missile" Brett Ladehoff take off right were he left off and that was out front as he would lead early. On Lap 2, we would see our only caution which resulted in a red flag as Daniel Hilsabeck stopped on the front stretch and everybody else was trying to advoid hitting him they ran out of room pushing Scott Simatovich up into Hilsabeck. Simatovich then would run on the front stretch, Simaotvich would be okay. For the remainder of the race, Ladehoff and Richie Gustin would battle for the lead. Gustin would pass for the lead on the restart and look to be pulling away but Ladehoff wouldn't let him get away and reeled Gustin in again. Ladehoff lead lap 15, Gustin lap 16 through 18. Then a lap car would get in the way of the leaders, Ladehoff would chose the right lane and make the pass on Gustin for the win. Finishing behind Ladehoff and Gustin was Jimmy Gustin, Jon Snyder and Mike O'Lear.

In the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks, they would see 4 heats and a b-feature get the field down to 24 cars. One major event happen in the b-feature as Jake Nelson went in to turn 3 on the 2nd lap he went up into a big fireball and the whole transmission blew out of the car, he would be okay. In the 12 lap feature now Vince Buchholz would take the lead and look to be cursing away for the win but then the only race caution came out on lap 8 when Calvin Dhondt stopped in turn 4 with a flat tire. Buchholz would hold on to the top spot for a couple more laps but on lap 11, Devin Smith would make the pass coming out of turn 2 and go on and take the win. Buchholz was 2nd, Dustin Filloon was 3rd, Todd Reitzler was 4th and Josh Saunders rounded out the top 5.

Racing action came to an end at 11. Another good night of racing action at Marshalltown. For complete results check out Marshalltown Speedway's website!

Aikey Takes Top Honors in the Summer Specatular

Well after my origninal plans this week of going to the harris clash was scrapped i decided to make the pull to the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City for the Motor Inn of Webster City Summer Spectacular. 3 divisions were in competition with a total of 57 cars with 24 Late Models, 22 Sport Mods and 11 Hobby Stocks.

After all the heats were completed there was an intermission to do some track work to make the track better for the features.

Once that was completed it was time for the first feature of the night, The Tile Pros IMCA Hobby Stocks for 15 Laps. Kyle Schmauss & Matt Ring would battle early but Schmauss would take the lead on lap 1. Robert See would then join in the fun with Schmauss and Ring on lap 3. Schmauss would still lead but then on lap 6, he would lose a driveshaft in turn 2 and exit to the pits after bring out the caution. See would be given the lead but his lead would be short live, first he had to battle with Ring and Brandon Ratcliff on lap 7. Ring would step back to the 3rd and let See and Ratcliff race for the lead. On lap 9, See and Ratcliff would come together in turn 4, See would pull in and Ratcliff would sit in the top of turn 4 and need assistance getting off. Ring would inherit the lead, a lead he would hold on too to go on and take the win. Brandon Chaplin was 2nd, Daniel Kreiger was 3rd, Adam Hagan was 4th and Craig Graham was 5th.

Up next was the Conley's Trucking IMCA Sport Mods for their 20 lap feature. "Rock Star" Rocky Caudle would take the early race lead and look to be cruising away while they were racing 3 & 4 wide behind him. But then on lap 5 the cautions began, the first caution was on lap 5 when Brian Johnson spun in turn 1. Caudle and the field would complete another lap before another caution on lap 6 when Carter Vandenberg spun in turn 2. On the restart, Scott Davis would get a good restart and battle Caudle for the lead and make the pass on lap 7. As Caudle would try to battle back for the lead he would spin out on lap 8 bringing out another caution. Davis would continue to set the pace, Davis and the field would complete another lap before another caution when Matt Northrop in turn 4. Another Lap was completed when another caution came out on lap 10 for Mitch Frakes and Northrop getting together in turn 3. Davis would still set the pace as battles were happening behind him, Matt Lettow and Cayden Carter battled for 2nd, then it was Jesse Sobbing and Carter battling for 3rd, Lettow and Sobbing for 2nd, Carter and Bob Sutherland for 4th. The Final caution would come out on lap 19 when Kyle Brown would incounter some problems and come to a stop on the backstretch that would set up a green-white-checkered. Davis would go on to the win, Geoff Olson would encounter problems on the last lap and pull in. Finishing behind Davis was Jesse Sobbing, Matt Lettow, Bob Sutherland and Cayden Carter. Sutherland won $100 bonus for the top 2 barrel carb Sport Mod thanks to Wide Open Racing Engines.

The final feature of the night was the finale it was the Motor Inn of Webster City IMCA Late Model 50 lap feature. This feature would have an interesting format as there would be a caution between laps 20-25 for a 10 minute pit stop that they could change anything on the car except for tires. The feature would have struggle getting through laps with out a caution early on. Jeff Aikey would take the lead early from his pole position but then the first race caution would come out for Josh Most stopping on front stretch. Aikey would have Al Johnson, Todd Conney and Greg Kastli on his back bumper but then another race caution would come out after the completion of lap 2 when Johnson would spin in turn 3 & 4. On Lap 3, another caution would come out when Most would spin in turn 3 & 4, it would send him to the pits. Aikey would continue to lead, he and the field would see another caution come out on lap 7 when Todd Cooney would stop in turn 4.

Aikey sets pace with Kastli and "Chargin" Charlie McKenna on his back bumper on the restart. The next race caution would come out on lap 16 when Cooney would stop on the front stretch sending him to the pits. 3 laps later another caution came out when "Hollywood" Jason Hahne would stop in turn 2. 5 laps later the field would see the caution come out and then red for the 10 minute intermission pit stop.

When they got going again, another caution came out before a lap was completed as "Hound Dog" Boone McLaughlin came to a stop in turn 2. Finally they got going, Aikey would continue to set pace, Kastli was 2nd, Terry Neal was 3rd, McKenna was 4th and Bryan Klein was 5th. they would basically just hug the bottom mean while behind them "The Ironman" Darrel DeFrance, who started 23rd would be making his way through the field. On lap 33 the red flag came out as Bryan Klein would roll his car in turn 2, Klein would climb from his machine okay. Aikey and the field would completed another lap before another caution happend when Jeremy Hodapp would stop in turn 4 after breaking a tie rod and have no way to control the car to get to the infield. Well Aikey and the field would only have to encounter 1 more caution as that came with 10 laps to go when Hahne would stop in turn 3. Aikey would be one of 10 cars to finish the race. Aikey would pocket $3,000 for the win as he would lead all the laps in the feature. Terry Neal was 2nd, Greg Kastli was 3rd, Kelly Tapper was 4th and Charlie McKenna was 5th. $100 Hard Charger Award presented by K&M Ag went to "The Ironman" Darrel DeFrance as he finished in 7th after starting 23rd. $100 Tough Luck Award presented by Webster City Machine Shop goes to "River City Hustler" Ray Guss Jr.

Johnson would make the pass for the lead, Irvine would follow to second and Jarod Weepie would move up to 3rd. Johnson began to pull away but then the caution came out on lap 21, first for Kyle Frederick spinning in turn 1 & 2 and then for Justin Jacobsen in turn 2. Johnson and the field would see the green come out only to get another lap in the books, Irvine would slip by Weepie. On the Restart, Burgtorf would begin to pull away and look to be cruise to the win but on lap 13 Burgtorf incounter lap traffic. The lap car of Callahan spun in turn 4 right in front of the leader Burgtorf, Burgtorf had no where to go. Because we lost our leader on the restart we had a couple of guys setting the pace and those guys were Rob Toland and Kevin Blum, on the restart tho Blum would take the lead. Blum and Toland would continue to do battle for the top spot when the final race caution came out on lap 16 when Luke Goedert and Josh Most spun in turn 4.
