𝐇𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐞

With the weather being a little sketchy, I confirmed my decision to stay closer to home for racing on Saturday night. I made the trip over to Iowa's Action Track, Boone Speedway, for their sixth scheduled Saturday Night Weekly Series night. Free admission to all healthcare workers in honor of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week.

I am sure I will have a few people say, "Well, you should have come back to the Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, Iowa, for the Guns and Hoses race on Saturday. Even more so since after checking the MRP, they got their complete show in the meantime as the Adams County Speedway in Corning and the Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska, were cancelled.

One hundred and eighty-two cars checked in to tame the ⅓ mile, and it was an extremely fast racetrack all night long until Mother Nature decided it was her turn to take a checkered flag. There were double features for stock cars, sport mods, and hobby stocks planned instead of heats and B-features. There were a couple of tumbles in the heat race, with Riley Clem rolling coming to the green in a mod lite heat; shortly after the restart, Austin Gray bicycled in turn three and rolled about 10 times over the top. Both would be okay, but the night ended.

Following the heat races was the Sport Mods 12-lap dash; Mike Smith and Gage Hilgenberg led the field to the green. Smith grabbed the lead and never looked back, going on to capture the victory. Jake Sachau came home second, Brayton Carter was third, Hunter Longnecker was in fourth, and Trevor Noonan was in fifth.

The first feature of the night was the Carquest Auto, Truck, and Farm IMCA STARS Mod Lites 15-lap feature event. Jaxon Carr led the first lap, but Landon Elliott took it away on lap two. Elliott led the way as Charlie Brown applied pressure on the youngster. The caution came out on lap five when Cory Sonner spun in turn two. On the following restart, a bottleneck happened in turn four, resulting in Colby Oberembt, Devan Glick, and Cole Paul getting together, and Bryan Compart took a tumble. Elliott hung on to the race lead through lap eight before Brown found his way to the top spot and Joel Huggins followed suit to second. Huggins snatched the lead away on lap 12 and went on to take the feature win. Brown, Elliott, Carr, and Bryan Zehm rounded out the top five.

Brayton Carter took the lead from the drop of the green flag in the first Elmquist Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods 18-lap feature, No. 1. Matt Avila and Cam Reimers tried to make it a race when lap traffic came into play, but Carter was strong. The only race caution came out on lap 15 when Sierra Rose Gary was spinning in turns three and four; it might have been because of the light shower that was coming down. Carter held on to take the win; Avila finished second. Twelfth-place starter Cam Reimers was third, eleventh-place starter Mike Smith was fourth, and Rocky Caudle took fifth. The second Sport Mod feature will be made up next week.

Track officials quickly brought the D&E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature onto the racetrack. Jesse Patterson and Trey Kline ran first and second until lap seven when Jay Noteboom captured second. Nick Meyer moved into third, Kline in fourth, and Todd Shute in fifth. Jake McBirnie was coming from eleventh, and Jeremy Mills from twelfth, for positions six and seven, but the raindrops started getting heavier and heavier, resulting in the caution coming out on lap eight. 

After a brief discussion and looking at the radar, the track officials decided to call it a night, and they will finish the modifieds race next week. Before the official decision was made, I headed for the car to get dry and decided to beat the traffic and begin to make the drive back to Marshalltown, and when I got back, I found out they ended up cancelling the rest of the night.

Racing action resumes next Saturday night, May 23rd, with the make-up features in all classes, but the Mod Lites have at least 1 feature to make up, and then it will be Stealth Racing Corn Belt Clash Night 2 for IMCA STARS Mod Lites, plus the Saturday Night Weekly Series continues for Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, and Hobby Stocks. Pits open at 3:30p, grandstands open at 4p, hot laps at 5p, and racing at 6p.

Foxman's projection on the order of events next week in Boone: Modifieds make-up with 8 laps down, Stock Cars A1, Hobby Stock A1, Sport Mod A2, Stock Car A2, Hobby Stock A2, Mod Lite Heats, Sport Mod Heats, Modifieds Heats, Stock Car Heats, and Hobby Stock Heats. Then features after that. 40 or more cars in a single division lately, Boone has run double features, but keep your eyes on My Race Pass for the order of events.

Well, I seem to find myself making many trips to the Stuart Speedway so far this season; the only night I have missed so far was the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel. The decision to make the 184-mile round trip this week came on Tuesday; I mean, just look at this past Saturday. I made the extremely last-minute decision to drive down to Gardner Automotive Repair in Windsor Heights and hitch a ride to the Shelby County Speedway in Harlan. I remembered my camera but left my clipboard to keep notes at home, but I do want to thank Michael Gardner and Cheyenne Starr for letting me tag along to Harlan. If you have not been to Shelby County Speedway in Harlan, you need to make the trip over there sometime; who knows, maybe I will make another trip sometime this year. Okay, let's move on to talking about the racing action at Stuart Speedway.

Wednesday night at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway, it was Fan Appreciation Night, sponsored by Elmquist Towing and Excel (Residential and Commercial) Floor Covering. All spectators ages 11 and up got in for five dollars in the grandstands. Kids had some fun at intermission with foot races in the infield.

There may have been only eighty-one cars checked in to tame the bullring, but the racing action was hot and intense all night long, with several finishes coming down to the checkered flag. The races wrapped up at 9:31 pm. Collen Winebarger from Corbett, Oregon, was in the house to hot lap his late model in preparation for the High Bank Heist presented by Malvern Bank at Eagle Raceway.

Great job by Mike Van Genderen, Rowdee, and the rest of the amazing track prep team. Thanks for the shout-outs, Tony Paris; as always, it was nice to see my busy racing buddy Dustin Jarrett, as he is in the area for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Nebraska. Yes, DJ, I like you more than Ben Shelton since, well, we see you more often. However, I am excited to work with you guys in August during the FloRacing Night in America in Motown.

The first feature of the night was the Southern Hills Spill Response Crown Vic's 12-lap feature event. Greg Dollens grabbed the early lead as Matthew McAtee and Jake Waters battled for second. Waters took second on lap two and raced into the lead on lap three. The caution came out shortly after Joseph Edler spun in Turn Two. Waters held off Dollens and McAtee on the restart, but McAtee made the right move and took the race lead away on lap five. Waters had his race come to an end when he spun in turn two on lap six with a flat tire. McAtee hung on to capture the feature win; in victory lane, McAtee said that car once was his daily driver to work. Dollens was second, Edler was third, and Waters took fourth.

Before a single lap got scored in the Hawkeye Auto Salvage IMCA Sport Compacts 15-lap feature, the caution came out when Joseph Carolus slowed in turn one. Craig Furstenau led the first four laps before Michael Gardner took the lead. Gardner's lead was short-lived as Tyler Fiebelkorn worked his way from eighth to take the race lead on lap six. Gardner tried to get back by, but Fiebelkorn was too strong and went on to take the win. Gardner captured second; Furstenau took third. Beatrice, Nebraska's Johnny Thomas worked his way from tenth to finish fourth, and Levi Volkert was fifth.

Next up was the Diversified Towing & Recovery IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature event. The caution came out shortly after the initial drop of the green as Rowdee Van Genderen spun in turn two. Chris Pruitt grabbed the top spot early and looked strong, but as the race was getting close to the halfway point, Hunter Smith, originally from Fort Morgan, Colorado, began to reel in Pruitt. The caution came out again on lap 12 when Miciah Hidlebaugh spun in turn one. Pruitt was determined to come home with the win, but Smith also had the same determination. Smith took the lead away on lap 17 and went on to capture his first win of 2026. Buck Schafroth got by Pruitt to take second, putting Pruitt in third. Mike "Wahoo" Albertsen was fourth, and Hidlebaugh came back to take fifth.

The Diversified Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature went green with Scott Bash and Garrett Nelson, but it was Colton Nelson battling his brother Garrett for the race lead. Garrett led the first lap, but Colton took the lead away on lap two. Colton Nelson then held off challenges from Owen Barnhill; meanwhile, Todd Shute was working his way from ninth. Shute worked his way into second on lap 11, and two laps later, on lap 13, when Colton Nelson slipped up, the race lead. Shute led the remaining laps to capture win number two in Stuart this year. Barnhill, tenth-place starter Ethan Braaksma, Izac Mallicoat, and Tyler Inman rounded out the top five as the Nelson Brothers faded back to sixth and eighth.

Bobby Daniels grabbed the lead early in the Giza Ag Service Outlaw Mini Mods 15-lap feature. Bobby fended off Cameron Burkman, Chase Daniels, and Lucas Daniels initially, but the caution came out on lap two when Burkman spun in turn one. Bobby Daniels remained strong out front until he went on a spin cycle in turn two on lap ten, exiting to the infield shortly after. That gave the race lead over to Ben Kraus, who had worked his way into second. Kraus hung on to the win despite a caution on lap 13 for Braxton James in turn four. With Kraus in first, Lucas Daniels took second, and James finished third. Peyton Solum, racing his first race, captured fourth, and Bobby Daniels got fifth. 

Rick's Towing and Transport IMCA Hobby Stocks 16-lap feature saw Zach Day lead the first three laps. The caution came out shortly after lap 3 was scored when Nathan DeRagon from Peoria, Arizona, spun in turns one and two. Kale Hemsley got by Day on the restart to take over the race lead and appeared to pull away. Hemsley looked to be heading on to victory until tenth-place starter Tom Killen Jr. reeled him in. Hemsley and Killen battled it out; Killen captured the race lead coming to the white flag and went on to take the feature win by . 267 seconds over Hemsley. Braden Gifford and Derrick Rohe finished third and fourth, and Bentley Long captured his best finish of his first season in the hobby stocks with a fifth place.

The final feature of the night was the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Northern Sport Mods 20-lap feature, and this feature was the best one of the night with a photo finish. Mike Dullard led the first lap, but shortly after, the caution came out when Mitchell Morris spun in turn one. On the restart, Cam Reimers took the top spot away as the battle for positions behind them heated up. The final caution came out on lap eight when Brayden Fahrni came to a stop in turn one. Reimers remained strong despite having Chris Burke, Matt Avila, Gage Hilgenberg, and Jake Sachau trying to apply pressure. Reimers held them all off initially, but as the laps were winding down and the lap traffic getting heavy, Avila was able to reel in Reimers and begin to apply pressure. Reimers and Avila battled it out to the checkered flag, which in the end saw Reimers win by .003 seconds at the line over Avila; you can watch that exciting finish on IMCATV replay or even on the Doom Scroll. Tenth-place starter Sachau was third, Burke finished fourth, and Morris came back to take fifth.

The next race at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway is Sunday, May 24th, for the 6th Annual Whole Hog 50 presented by Van Eaton Pork and the final night of the Stealth Racing Corn Belt Clash for IMCA Mod Lites. IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts, and Mod Lites are on the card. Keep your eye on the Stuart Speedway Facebook page for more event information.

As if my racing weekend was not filled enough with flagging duties on Friday night at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway, flagging and race directing the Midwest Pavement Grand Nationals at Hawkeye Downs Saturday morning and afternoon, and making it to Brooklyn Raceway to catch the end of the heats and features, on Sunday I went somewhere. I had choices to make: Mason City Motor Speedway, Benton County Speedway in Vinton, and the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway were racing on Sunday. I brought it down to Vinton or Stuart because they each had late models on the card but decided to make the 1.5-hour drive to Stuart for the Malvern Bank SLMR opener.

It was a picture-perfect day for racing at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway, which saw the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series making their only appearance of 2026 at the quarter-mile bullring on the northwest corner of Stuart. A total of one hundred and four cars signed in on Sunday, including 23 SLMR Late Models. It was track points night of the IMCA divisions with a normal points invert. The racing action was exciting and intense all night; we saw one first-time winner and a three-wide photo finish among the excitement.

Mike Van Genderen and the track prep team produced a fantastic racing surface for the Sunday Night Special. Jeff Kropf was fantastic on the sticks. Tony Paris and Anthony Ainslie did amazingly on the announcing all night, and thanks for the shoutouts. Jamie Songer, great job with the victory lane interviews.  It was nice to see reverend Michael "Wombat" Walrod at the track for the first time this year to give the invocation. The night started with hot laps at 5:30p, heat races started at 6:15p, and the final checkered flag waved at 9:23p.

The first feature of the night came before a full track prep session; it was the Hawkeye Auto Salvage IMCA Sport Compacts for 15 laps. Levi Volkert outwrestled Michael Gardner for the race lead. Volkert pulled away and never looked back, leading from start to finish. Tyler Fiebelkorn came home second in the feature that went green-to-checkered. Daniel Clayton came home third, Gardner was fourth, and Beatrice, Nebraska's Johnny Thomas was fifth. 

After the track prep session, it was time for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series 30-lap West Series season-opening feature event. Bill Leighton from Lavista, Nebraska, took the early lead, but it was short-lived. Jesse Sobbing took the top spot on lap three and pulled away. The only caution came out on lap seven when "The Iron Man" Darrel DeFrance and Paul Glendenning spun in turn two. Sobbing had a great restart and checked out until lap traffic came in to play. That would allow Leighton and Daniel Hilsabeck to reel in Sobbing. Tad Pospisil and "The Ripper" Jake Neal joined the battle up front. Sobbing hung on to take the feature win; it was his first SLMR win at Stuart and eleventh SLMR Series win for the 2025 West Series champion. Leighton tried to surge in a late race challenge for second but came up and settled for second, fending off Pospisil. Neal and Hilsabeck rounded out the top five. The Performance Grading hard-luck award goes to Derek Daly after he caught the turn-one wall and barrel-rolled two times before coming to a rest that unfortunately ended his night. Keyser Manufacturing's fastest qualifier was Leighton with a 13.187-second lap in the first group. Pospisil (13.447 seconds) topped Group 2, and Hilsabeck (13.407 seconds) topped Group 3. Heat race winners were Andrew Kosiski, Jeff Tharp, and Dylan Sillman. The Skyline Materials Lucky 6th place starter challenge went to Hilsabeck, but he declined, so they redrew, and Jason Hahne then had a chance to win the extra $2,000, but since he failed, the challenge will increase another $250 at the next SLMR series event.

Next up was the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Northern Sport Mods 20-lap feature event. Before a single lap was completed, Spencer Leonard came to a stop in turn one, bringing the caution out. Mike Dullard led the first two laps when the race finally got started, but Matt Avila took over the top spot and pulled away. Avila received late race pressure from tenth-place starter Jake Sachau, but he was able to fend him off to capture his first feature win of the 2026 season. Sachau was second, Dayton Swatek was third, Brayton Carter was fourth, and Mitchell Morris was fifth.

Rick's Towing and Transports IMCA Hobby Stocks had trouble finding momentum early in their 18-lap feature event. Dalton Coady spun in turn one on the first lap. Dylan Hill led the first lap, but shortly after, a caution came out when Michael Johnson Jr. hit the wall in turn one and then rolled once before landing back on the wheels. Derrick Rohe took the race lead on the restart and was followed by Braden Gifford and Kael Koch. The caution came out one final time as lap two was being completed when Hill got into Zach Day and Solomon Bennett, forcing Day and Bennett to get stuck with each other. Day's night ended, Bennett rejoined and got his spot back, and Hill was sent to the tail for being at fault but decided to take it to the pits. Rohe led until lap eight when tenth-place starter Briar Kriegel worked his way up to take the top spot away. Kriegel was followed by Koch. Kriegel, Koch, Gifford, eleventh-place starter Tom Killen Jr., and Eric Stanton made it a five-car race out front. This created excitement, as there was a three-wide photo finish at the line between Kriegel, Koch, and Killen. Kriegel captured the win by .051 seconds over Koch, and Killen was .024 seconds back on Koch. Koch was disqualified in post-race tech for illegal shock mounts, so that granted Killen second. Gifford, Stanton, and Rohe were third through fifth. 

In the Diversified Towing and Recovery IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature, Thomas Nelson led the first lap before "The Flyin' Bomb Pop" Miciah Hidlebaugh took the lead away on lap two. Hidlebaugh got out to a 1.5-second lead before "Wahoo" Mike Albertsen worked his way up to second. Hidlebaugh went on to capture the feature win at his home track. Albertsen's late surge came up short, and he settled for second. Austin Meiners finished third, Nelson fell back to fourth, and Greg Peck took fifth. 

The final feature of the night was the Diversified Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature. Scott Bash led the opening lap. Colton Nelson took over the race lead, and Chase Weimer followed in second shortly after. Nelson looked smooth out front and appeared nobody was going to take it away from him. A pair of cautions around the midpoint of the race. The first one was on lap ten when Trevor Fitz spun in turn two, and then Owen Barnhill in turn two on lap 11. Nelson held off Weimer and Inman on the restart and went to lead the final 9 laps to capture his first career IMCA Modified win. Which, when I got home, I found out another first-time career IMCA Modified winner happened in Vinton when Ethan Krall did—so two first-time winners on one night. Finishing behind Nelson in Stuart were Weimer, Inman, Todd Shute, and Bash.

The next race at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway is on Wednesday, May 13th for $5 Fan Appreciation Night presented by Elmquist Towing and Excel Floor Covering. It will feature all of the IMCA-sanctioned divisions: Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts, plus Outlaw Mini Mods and Crown Vics. Gates open at 5p, hot laps at 6:45p, and racing to follow. Grandstands are $5 for ages 17 and older; kids (11-16) are $5; and those 10 and under are free. A pit pass is $30 for ages 14 & up, $20 for kids (6-13), and free for 5 & under. 

Next up for the Malvern Bank SLMR (Super Late Model Racing Series) is an East Series tripleheader at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield on Friday, May 22nd; Maquoketa Speedway in Maquoketa on Saturday, May 23rd; and Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque. The West Series' next event is at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, on Friday, May 29th. Joining the SLMR in Bloomfield on May 22nd are the IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, and IMCA Hobby Stocks. Grandstand ages 11 and up are $20, kids 6-10 are $10, and those 5 and under are free. A pit pass is $35. Gates open at 5p, hot laps at 6:30p, and racing to follow.

𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐀𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧

When I heard it's double late model racing at the Independence Motor Speedway in Independence featuring the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, I couldn't pass up the trip to Indee. I left Marshalltown around 2:20p and arrived right around 4p. Hot laps and qualifying began at 6:30p, opening ceremonies around 7:25p, the first green flag at 7:30p, and the final checkers at 10:55p. Meaning by the time I got in the car and headed home, I pulled into the driveway at 12:40a. I didn't regret my decision to go and take in the show; it was an exciting show. Let's talk about that now. 

The racing action was intense and exciting all night long for the first of several national late model races in the Hawkeye State. The World of Outlaws has a few more dates in August, FloRacing Night in America Late Models have a pair of August dates, and the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series makes visits to Iowa in July and September. The grandstands were packed with fans excited to see the World of Outlaws back at the Independence Motor Speedway and the Buchanan County Fairgrounds since they made an appearance two years ago; last year's event was cancelled because of Mother Nature. It was overcast skies, NW wind at 5-10 mph, and 57 degrees when hot laps began and only got a little chillier, but that did not stop fans from coming out. Mike Van Genderen and the team had the racetrack ready to handle this show, which is no surprise, but that was the exact reason for racing last Tuesday night: to make sure the track was ready.

Great job by promoters Mike Van Genderen and Dana Benning on a great racing surface and putting on a fantastic show. Kudos to the announcers Ruben Mireles and Ashton Smyth of the World of Outlaws; Braxton Flattery of the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Model Tour; and Jeff Kropf, the track announcer last night. Let's not forget all the other great volunteers putting in the hard work from scoring to lineup cars, those that don't get appreciation for their hard work on keeping the show moving along.

Not only on the card was the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DirtVision, but so was the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Model Tour (Pro Late Models) for their second series race of 2026; they ran at Marshalltown last Friday night in a caution-filled feature. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars rounded out the billing. A total of ninety-five cars signed in to battle the fast 3/8 mile track, including a combined total of 57 late models: 32 World Of Outlaws and 25 Premier Late Model Tour.

The first feature of the night was the headliner of the Independence Late Model Showdown, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DirtVision for their 40-lap feature. Nick Hoffman, nicknamed "The Thrill From Mooresville," flexed his strength, topping hot laps, quick-timing in Mark Automotive Qualifying with a time of 12.549 seconds, winning the heat race, and claiming the Bilstein Pole Award. Hoffman jumped out to the race lead early, fending off "Superman" Jonathan Davenport and "Smooth Operator" Bobby Pierce. On lap six, Davenport slipped off the top of turn two and rejoined but lost spots shortly after the caution came out when Tyler Bruening was off the pace in turn four. Pierce snatched the lead away on the restart from Hoffman, when Hoffman slipped up in turn one. Pierce was able to control the pace and remained strong out front. The caution came out again on laps fourteen and fifteen: on lap 14 when Derrick Stewart went off the top of turns one and two and a lap later, on lap 15, when Dallon Murty went off the top of turn two. Pierce got great restarts every time and pulled away from Hoffman and Davenport, but a caution came out on lap 19 for Murty and Tristian Chamberlain , both went off the top of turn two. Pierce again was smooth on the restart and pulled away, but one more caution came out on lap 31 for "The Big Perm" Daulton Wilson slowing in turn three. Hoffman tried to get by Pierce when lap traffic was heavy and took the clean air away but came up short. On the restarts, managed to hold off challenges. 

Pierce won by half a straightaway, pocketing $12,000; for Pierce, it was the sixth win of the season and 48th all-time World of Outlaws Series win, tying him with Shane Clanton in fourth place for all-time wins (as of now, he would need another 42 wins to beat the all-time wins leader, Brandon Sheppard). It also allowed him to retake the points lead heading into the Dairyland Showdown Tripleheader. "Turbo" Tyler Erb got by Hoffman for second; Hoffman was third, Drake Troutman in fourth, and rookie Trey Mills was fifth. Garrett Alberson took sixth; Davenport came home in seventh after his kryptonite was turn two, seventeenth-place starter Ethan Dotson in eighth, eighteenth-place starter Dustin Sorensen in ninth, and Cade Dillard was tenth. Heat race winners were Hoffman, Davenport, Murty, and Pierce; Last Chance Showdown winners were Dotson and Sorensen. Eli Johnson, fifteenth place finisher was the FOX Factory Hard Charger moving up 10 spots. 

The last time the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Model Tour sponsored by Performance Bodies, Karl Kustoms, Quam Trucking, Aikey Auto Salvage, Troy's Sandwiches, Midwest Buildings Inc., Re-Max Independence Realty, and Angry Duck Graphics was on the track was on Friday night at Marshalltown, and their feature was caution-filled, and only seven cars finished the race. A different story on Tuesday night as the 25-lap feature only had four cautions, and 14 cars finished on the lead lap. Travis Smock snatched up the race lead early with veteran Jeff Aikey remaining in tow. Aikey applied pressure on the top side as Smock catfished the bottom. The first caution came out on lap three when Tyler Sommerlot spun turn three after hitting an infield tire. Smock held the lead through lap five, before Aikey finally made his line work and took the top spot away on lap six. Shortly after the second caution came out on lap six when Chase Brunscheen spun in turn two. Aikey held off Smock; meanwhile, defending series champion J.D. Auringer worked his way into second, and Marshalltown's winner Nick Marolf followed into third. Aikey continued to lead as those two battled it out, but caution came out on lap 20 when Marcus Orr spun in turn two. Marolf got by Aikey on lap 22 for the race lead and set the pace. The final caution came out on lap 23 when Shawn Mulvany spun in turn two. Marolf got a great restart going on to capture back-to-back wins to begin the season in the Premier Late Models tour, cashing in on the $2,000 prize. Eleventh-place starter CJ Horn claimed runner-up honors; tenth-place starter Troy Morris III, thirteenth-place starter Matt Ryan, and Auringer round out the top five. Heat race winners were Aikey, Auringer, Smock, and Logan Duffy.

Spencer Diercks and Cody Laney led the field to the green flag in the Waterloo Auto Parts IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature event. It was Diercks jumping out to the race lead. Two race cautions came out: lap three for Brett Ramsey spinning off the top of turn one and then lap eight when Kevin Rose spun in turn four. Diercks received several challenges from Laney until he found his line and pulled away to the $1,000 feature win. Laney was challenged by Ethan Braaksma for second but held on. Braaksma was third, Kollin Hibdon came home fourth, and Jed Freiburger was in fifth. Heat race winners were Hibdon and Braaksma.

The nightcapping feature was the Christie Door Company IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature, worth $1,000 to win. Rowdee Van Genderen used his pole position to his advantage by taking the early lead. Braden Richards followed into second and began to apply immediate pressure on Van Genderen for the race lead, and when Rowdee slipped up on lap four, Richards pounced and took the top spot. Independence veteran Tom Schmitt worked his way by Van Genderen for second and challenged Richards for the race lead, which he took on lap seven. Richards refused to go away and regained the lead just before the first race caution on lap eight when Austin Staley spun in turn three. Richards held off Schmitt and Gage Neal on the restart. The final caution came out on lap 13 when Neal got slideways in turn three, forcing Dakoda Sellers to check up and spin. Avoiding contact, Neal was sent to the tail; Sellers got his spot back. Richards held on to take the feature win. Schmitt finished second, "Chelsea Charger." Damon Murty finished third, Dakoda Sellers was fourth, and Van Genderen fell back to fifth. Heat race winners were Neal, Schmitt, and Richards.

Gates open at 4p, hot laps at 6p, and racing to follow.

They will be joined by the Kevko Racing USRA Northern Lights Modified Series presented by Real Racing Wheels, with $2,000 to win on Thursday and Friday and Saturday paying $3,000 to win for Mods. The World of Outlaws Late Models return to the Hawkeye State in August for two weekends. Friday August 21st and Saturday August 22nd at the Maquoketa Speedway in Maquoketa for the Hawkeye 100; there is a practice night on Thursday August 20th. Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Wednesday, August 26th; Adams County Speedway in Corning on Friday, August 28th; and Shelby County Speedway in Harlan on Saturday, August 29th.

The first 3 attempts were cancelled: the frostbuster on April 2nd, the original season opener on April 11th, and the make-up season opener on April 18th. Speedway officials needed to get a show in before the World of Outlaws The late models series comes to town next week. Tuesday night was only for IMCA state, regional, and national points; no track points were awarded. 

Kudos to Mike Van Genderen and Dana Benning for putting this event together in less than a week's time frame because of the rainouts to try and get the season started. A chamber of commerce night for racing, as there were beautiful blue skies and sunshine, temperatures in the low 80s, and a light wind that felt just right. One hundred and thirty-one cars signed in at the back gate to race on the 3/8 mile banked race track located at the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. The racing action was exciting all night; the final checkered flag waved at 10:40p.

Sometimes you never know what MVG has up his sleeves; he decided there would be a qualifying procedure for the Modifieds and Stock Cars. No more than eight cars on the track at a time, and they would take to the track for hot laps and two laps of qualifying. With an invert of some many cars, setting the lineups for the heat races. It produced some great action in the heat races as the top qualifiers had to work for the right to make the top spots. All the other classes had the normal draw-redraw format to determine their starting spots. Kudos to the tower of Tysus Pattee and Kevin Kemp on keeping everything straight, despite technology being a pain in the butt last night that forced race officials to adjust the schedule several times.

The first feature honors went to the Rooster Auto Sales of Vinton Crown Vics for 15 laps, which ran before the Modified Heats because of a technology hiccup. Derrick Dean started outside the front row, grabbed the top spot early, and ran away with a half-lap lead at one moment. Dean went on to take the feature win with Michael LaMar and Rob Culbertson finishing second and third, the only other two on the lead lap. David Culbertson and Jacob Tuttle were fourth and fifth.

Zach McNeese jumped out to the race lead in the Performance Bodies IMCA Hobby Stocks 16-lap feature event. McNeese led the first ten laps without any major challenge from Karter Miles or Carson Butt; he slipped up in turn two, and that allowed Miles to take the race lead and Butt into second. McNeese then exited on lap 13 with a flat tire, around the time a caution came out for Spencer Roggentien and Jaxon Daniels spinning in turn four and debris in turn three. Miles went on to capture the win, with Butt finishing second. Twelfth place starter Briar Kriegel came home in third, twenty-fifth place starter Joren Fisher was fourth, and "Mrs. Dominator" Leah Wroten was fifth.

In the Pat's Auto Salvage IMCA Sport Mods 20-lap feature event, Will Wolf jumped out to the race lead and set a smooth and quick pace. However, on lap 13, Wolf slowed and ducked to the infield before rejoining following the came out for him slowing. Cole Suckow took command of the race, and he held off Ben Chapman to take the feature win. Chapman was in second. Tony Olson was running third but slipped up on the last lap, allowing nineteenth-place starter Austin Kemp and Jackson Carey to get by in third and fourth. Olson recovered to take fifth.

Tyler Fiebelkorn, making the three-hour one-way pull from Stuart to Race, snatched up the early lead in the Cue Rentals powered by Tarpy IMCA Sport Compacts 14-lap feature event. Fiebelkorn looked smooth out front, but once Dyllan Bonk worked his way from seventh to second, Bonk applied pressure and captured the top spot on lap three. Bonk pulled away; meanwhile, Fiebelkorn continued to run second, but then the only race caution came out on lap ten for debris in turn two, and as that happened, Stephen Randall made slight contact with Michael Stoddard, sending Stoddard into an infield tire in turn three. Bonk held off the Fiebelkorn on the restart and went on to capture the feature win. Sixteenth-place starter Drew Stanek got by Fiebelkorn for second on the last lap. Mike Payton and Devin Coghlan round out the top five.

It was then time for the Christie Door Company IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature event. Kodey Miles used the high side to take the lead over Casey Shelliam. Shelliam regained the lead just as Adam Streeter went for a roll in turn two. Miles got the lead back since the lead change was not official, and he had Independence Veteran Tom Schmitt and West Burlington's John Oliver Jr. take up the chase to apply pressure to Miles until the next caution came out on lap 14. That caution was for Jack Hockaday spinning in turn one right in front of the race leaders, collecting two of the back of the field, Shawn Stinger and Trenton Neuhaus. Schmitt tried to take the higher line in one and two and the bottom of three and four to get by Miles but came up short as Kodey was able to fend off those challenges. The red flag came out on lap 17 when Vern Jackson tumbled over the top of turns one and two. Miles out front, Schmitt chose the inside, putting Oliver to the outside. Oliver had the right lane as he was able to get by Schmitt and then battle Miles for the race lead. Oliver edged out Miles on lap nineteen and won a photo finish at the line by .051 seconds. Schmitt was third, Gage Neal in fourth, and sixteenth-place starter Tanner Allen in fifth. Quick qualifiers in each group was Oliver Jr., Schmitt and Shelliam with Shelliam as the quick timer. 

The final feature of the night was the Waterloo Auto Parts IMCA Modifieds 20-lap event. Kollin Hibdon was a rocket ship from the drop of the green flag, finding the grip strip on the bottom side as he led from start to finish. The only race caution came out on lap four for Wisconsin's Brandon Schmitt, spinning in turn two. Hibdon went on to capture the win. Joel Rust was in striking distance but couldn't get by Hibdon, and when lap traffic slowed them down, Ethan Braaksma made it a three-car race. Braaksma captured second; Rust was third. Spencer Diercks took fourth place, and Troy Morris III was fifth. Quick qualifiers in each group were Hibdon, Schmitt, Jace Whitt, and Jerry Flippo, with Hibdon as the quick timer.

The next race at the Independence Motor Speedway is Tuesday, April 28th, for the World of Outlaws Independence Late Model Showdown presented by Scott Webb Concrete. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DirtVision will be $12,000 to win; the Karl Chevrolet Premier Late Model Tour will be $2,000 to win. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars round out the Tuesday Night Card. Pits open at 2p, grandstands open at 3p, hot laps at 6:30p, and racing to follow. Grandstands are $40 for adults, $20 for kids (ages 6-15), and free for children 5 & under. A pit pass is $50 for ages 13 & up, kids (6-12) $25, and children 5 & under $10. 

Then IMCA weekly racing takes place on Saturday, May 9th, for Johnson Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Night with Pro Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Compacts, and Crown Vics.

Revving It Up at Hwy 39 Speedway in Denison opens their 2026 season with an IMCA Sunday Special. IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, and IMCA Stock Cars are $1,000 to win. IMCA Sport Mods: $750 to win, IMCA Hobby Stocks: $500 to win, and IMCA Sport Compacts: $200 to win. Pits open at 3p, grandstands open at 4p, hot laps at 5:30p, and racing to follow. Grandstands are $15 for adults, students, seniors, and military; $10 for kids 8 and under; and free. Pit passes are $35 for adults, $15 for kids (7-13), $10 for children (4-6), and free for 3 and under. You can watch live on Advantage Racing TV if you can't make it in person.

The next race at Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway in Stuart is on Wednesday, April 29th, for the make-up of the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel. Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield will have its first race on Friday, May 22nd, when the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series makes an appearance.
