Warm Temperatures and Great Racing for Thunder Dome Race #7

Thunder Dome returned back to the Central Iowa Fairgrounds after a 3 week lay off for race 7 of the winter indoor season. Calling it a winter indoor season on this day would not be true as temperatures were in the lower 80s which lead to the higher car count.

First feature up was the Unlimited All Stars (UAS) which saw Andy Bates take the lead early and never look back as Bates would lead the entire 15 lap feature. Mike Jones would finish 2nd, Turbo Tim was 3rd, Thor Anderson was 4th and Don Baker was 5th

The Kid Karts class would see Gaige Stratton lead from start to finish in the 10 lap feature. Joren Fisher from Garrison took 2nd, Conner Kriegel was 3rd, Keagan Thompson was 4th and Kenndy Davenport was 5th.

Up next was the Junior 2 Pro Heavy go-kart class with Tyler Havens continuing his dominance in the divison as he would take home his 6th the win of the year, Cole Nicoletto would finish 2nd.

Rookie Beginners go-kart class would see some great racing as the early race leader would be Gaige Stratton but that would be short lived as Kamden Criss from Oskaloosa would make the move and take the lead on lap 2 and not look back. Finishing behind Criss was Conner Kreigel, Gaige Stratton, Kennedy Davenport and Riley Plymesser.

In the Rookie Adavanced go-kart class it was Blake Dullard taking the lead early. Dullard would lose the lead on lap 5 to Logan Duffy and shortly after the red flag would come out as Dullard lost the handle and was trying to get it recollected but go hit hard. Dullard climbed from the kart but was a little sore, the final laps were run without a hitch. However Duffy would be passed by Keegan Havens on the final lap. Havens took the win, Duffy was 2nd, Brady Kohrs was 3rd, McKenzie Culbertson was 4th and Landon Duffy was 5th.

Junior Quads would see Tristian Rethmeier lead from start to finish with Braydon Sly and Keaton Woosley would finish second and third respectively behind Rethmeier.

In the Mad Dogg Bikes it would be  Brandon Webster lead from start to finish, Webster is normally in the Junior Bikes and will receive credit in that division as well. Clayton Webster was 2nd but not running for points so Turbo Tim Bontrager was 2nd and Brian Kauffman was 3rd.

The Amateur Quads saw Scott Brown get the whole shot victory over Rick Reeves, Nick Russell, Paul VanderWood and Justin Sutherlin.

For the Junior 1 Pro Heavy go-kart class, Brooke Havens took the lead very early and despite early challenges by both Nick Rose and Madison Clark, Havens was not to be denied. Clark tried to chase her down but Rose would get by Clark and take 2nd and Clark settled for 3rd. Walker Ashton was not able to make the call for the feature event.

Clone Heavy go-kart class would see Albert Wolfgram taking the lead early from his pole position and despite a few race caution, he wouldn't be denied and take the win. Wolfgram's win would also make the points battle closer going into the final race. Brandon Sohl was 2nd, Casey Luke was 3rd, Clair Messor was 4th and Tony Wolfgram was 5th.

The final feature on the day was the Pro Bike feautre and it was Brandon Webster taking the win over his brother Clayton Webster. Clayton lead the first 9 laps but then he spun out and his bike wouldn't re fire and that allowed Brandon to get by and take the win. Clayton will be credited the win for points in the divison.

The next Thunder Dome race is Saturday March 31st as it will be the 1st Annual "Smokin Smoe" Memorial Season Championships race. The race will be in honor of a go-kart driver we lost prior to the beginning of the indoor season.  The gates open at 9AM, hot laps at noon and racing to follow. Admission is $10 which includes a Pit Pass. For more information contact Brian Kauffman at (319) 551-0077 or log on to http://www.thunderdomeiowa.com/
