Houseman Hangs On to Win Championship and Watson Takes Hawkeye Challenge Win

Saturday Night I made the trip over to the Boone Speedway for another Weekly Points Night. It was also RaceSaver Sprint Cars Season Championship Night and the rescheduled Hawkeye Challenge took place. One Hundred Twenty Cars signed in on Saturday Night including 27 Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds, 24 Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, 23 Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods, 21 Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks, 17 My Race Pass Mod Lites and 8 K1 Race Gear IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Cruiser Cars were also on hand to tame Iowa's Action Track.

The Hawkeye Challenge was the main attraction everybody wanted to see and it pitted four drivers from each of the six classes taking to the track at one time. The event was held from 1987-1993 but after Boone Speedway Promoter Robert Lawton and Coty Mallicoat talked, the Hawkeye Challenge was reborn in 2019. Each class point leader was locked into the feature, with the other three qualifying through a passing points stystem during the heat races. The overall winner took a $1,000 and a Snap-On Tools Tool Box/Grill Combo. All other classe winners took home $500.  Sprint Cars 25 laps, Modifieds 23 laps, Sport Mods 22 laps, Mod Lites 22 laps, Stock Cars 21 laps and Hobby Stocks 20 laps.

Initial on Saturday Night, Donavon Smith was dubbed the winner but after video and My Lap transponder review the official winner is John Watson. Adam Ayers, Donavon Smith, Scott Davis and David Smith rounded out the top five. Cam Reimers, Jake McBirnie, Tim Ward, Mike Houseman and Mike Kennedy rounded out the top ten. Watson took the Hobbys, Donavon Smith in Stocks, Reimers in the Sport Mods, Tim Ward in the Modifieds, Mike Houseman in the Sprint Cars and Mike Kennedy in the Mod Lites.

The first feature of the night was the K1 Race Gear RaceSaver Sprint Cars 20 lap feature. Going into the night, Mike Houseman had a six point lead over Tyler Thompson but it appeared as if Thompson would be the track champion because Houseman said he would only start the feature after mechanical issues the night before US 36 Raceway. Before a single lap was completed, the caution came out when DJ Palmer, Ryan Navratil, Jake Greenwood and Mike Houseman got together in turn two meanwhile Thompson broke and went off the topside of turn three. All cars in involved in turn two was able to continue, Thompson has his night come to an end. Joel Thorpe grabbed the lead on lap one but the caution came out just after the lap was scored when Grenwood spun in turn two. On the restart, Kade Higday grabbed the top spot away from Thorpe and pulled away to went by nearly half a lap. Thorpe was second, Palmer was third, Navratil was fourth and Shadrach Sporaa was fifth. Houseman hung on to win the track championship by 8 pts over Thompson.

In the My Race Pass Mod Lites 15 lap feature, Travis Stensland led from start to finish in the feature that went caution free. It was Travis Stensland first win of the season. Terry Brown finshed in a distant second, Tanner Gannon was third. Tenth place starter Ed Griggs and ninth place starter Randy Bryan finished fourth and fifth.

Ronnie Hults jumped out to the early lead in the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature holding off Cam Reimers until the caution came out on lap five for Michael Miller in turn two. Hults was determined to not be denied and held off challenges on the restart from Reimers and Robert Moore until the caution came out again on lap seven for Miller in turn four and Brandon Coffman in turn three. Tenth place starter Jake McBirnie wrestled the lead away on the restart and was only slowed on lap 11 when Reimers spun in turn four. McBirnie to take the win ahead of Dustin Lynch, Hults, Pestotnik and twelveth place starter Chris Burke.

Joel Bushore led the first fifteen laps of the Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature but shortly after Bushore and Jeremy Mills made contact. That contact allowed Tim Ward to sneak by both of them and take the lead away. Bushore sooned came to a stop in turn four on lap 17 to bring out the caution flag. Ward held on strong to the top spot in route to taking the win. Mills finished second, twelveth place starter Joel Rust was third, tenth place starter Jimmy Gustin was fourth and fifteenth place starter Ronn Lauritzen was fifth.

In the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event, Jesse Simth led the first four laps before eleventh place starter Jeff Mueller took the top spot away on lap five. The only caution came out on lap eight for Laura Curry on the backstretch exiting turn two and Jesse Smith in turn four. Mueller continued to lead until Josh Daniels wrestled the lead away on lap 12. Daniels cruised on to the easy win ahead of Mueller, tenth place starter Scott Davis, Troy Jerovetz and David Smith.

Before a single lap was scored in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, the red flag was displayed when Shaun Wirtz got tangled up in a situation which sent him rolling on the front stretch. Wirtz climbed from the car and was mad but okay. Eric Knutson grabbed the lead on the restart but just after the completion of lap one, the caution came out for Braden Richards in turn four. Knutson and John Watson battled for the top spot with Knutson holding strong but the caution came out again on lap six for debris and then on lap nine for Aaron Rudolph and Adam Ayers getting together in turn four. The lap nine restart allowed Watson to wrestle the lead away but Knutson did not go away as he surged ahead and beat Watson back to the checkers. Jack Phillips, Greg Sidles and fifteenth place starter Mike Smith rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Cruiser Cars and once again it went to the duo of Donny Mason and Carl Agan. Mike Agan and Junior Worly finished second, Janson Hadaway and Maggie A finished third, Kyle Parker and Brandon Andreason finished fourth, Kody Harrelson and Jessica Lyon finished fifth.

Cornelius Takes Hobo 100 Stock Car Shootout

Hancock County Speedway received a little rain Thursday, just enough to help water the track for the Annual Stock Car Shootout during the Hancock County District Fair Friday Night Races. Friday Night was the Hobo 100 sponsored by McNeese Tire & Automotive, Communications 1 Network and Edwards Manufacturing Company.

One Hundred Twenty Four cars checked in for the Hobo 100 races including 48 Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars. Twenty-Four IMCA Modifieds, 28 House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods, 19 MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks and 5 IMCA Sport Compacts. Dean Cornelius won the Stock Cars, Jordan Grabouski won the Modifieds, Jim Chisholm wins in the Sport Mods, Bryce Sommerfeld wins in the Hobby Stocks and Oliver Monson won in the Sport Compacts.

Seventy-five cars checked in for the Tuesday Night Race including Thirty-One Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour IMCA Modifieds, 16 House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods, 13 Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars and 15 MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks. Colby Fett, Kyle Brown and Cody Nielsen nabbed the support class features.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts 10 lap feature event. Lucas Parsons took the lead on the opening lap but Oliver Monson powered his way by on lap two. Monson criused on to his fifth win in Britt. Parsons finished second ahead of Sam Umbarger, Jade Lange and Ken Winkowitsch.

House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap Hobo 100 Feature was next on the race track. Track Champion George Nordman grabbed the early lead but that was short lived when the caution came out for debris in turn four. Nordman had to battle with Doug Cook on the restart, Cook worked the top side just right to take over the top spot on lap two. The caution came out again on lap four for Kevin Wiemers in turn two. Cook, Nordman and now Doug Smith made it a three car battle for the top spot with Cook holding on, only to see the caution come out again on lap five when Jason Bass blows up in turn three. Cook look strong holding off challenges from Smith and Nordman until the final race caution came out on lap 12. On the final restart, Cook had to contend with Smith, Nordman and Jim Chisholm. Chisholm got a great restart got by Cook, Smith and Nordman and took the top spot away on lap 13. Chisholm pulled away and went on to take his first win at the Hancock County Speedway. Ninth place starter Jared Boumeester, Cook, Nordman and Smith rounded out the top five.

Kelly Shryock grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature from his outside front row wrestling it away from Cody Laney. Laney did not go away and wrestled the lead away from Shryock on lap four. The caution came out on lap five for Bradie Becker in turn two and then again a lap later on lap six for debris on the front stretch. Shryock and Laney continued their battle but they were not joined by Nick Meyer and Jordan Grabouski. Laney continued to lead working the bottom side of the speedway with Grabouski working the top side of the speedway and as lap traffic was getting heavy in front of your leaders, Grabouski knew it was time to make a bid for the top spot. Grabouski took the top spot away on lap 22 and led the remaining laps to take the win. Laney finished second, Ethan Dotson was third, Shryock fell back to fourth and eleventh place starter Austin Wolf was fifth.

Bryce Sommerfeld flexed his muscles strong in the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature by leading the entire distance but it was not easy as Cody Nielsen and Brandon Nielsen will right in his tire tracks. Cody Nielsen tried to take the lead away but jumped the cushion allowing Sommerfeld to hold on to the lead. The caution flags came out twice on lap 15, first for Travis Johnson in turn three, then again on the restart when Charlie Stevens lost a driveshaft and hit the front stretch wall. Sommerfeld held off the Nielsen Brothers only to see the caution come out again on lap 16, Josh Sidles spun on the backstretch. Sommerfeld was not fazed as he held on to take his first win in Britt ahead of Cody Nielsen meanwhile Brandon Nielsen had a tire go down on the last lap pushing him back to eighth. Tenth place starter Zach Hemmingsen finished third ahead of twelveth place starter Zack Smidt and Kyle Sidles.

Final feature of the night was the Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars 25 lap feature for $4,300 to win. Minnesota Drivers Curt Lund and Ned Kalis battled it out for the top spot with Lund leading the first five laps despite several challanges from Kalis. Dean Cornelius made a three car fight for the top spot until he grabbed the lead away on lap six. Cornelius continued to lead until Lund made a move and nosed ahead on lap 13. Cornelius grabbed the top spot back on lap 14 but held off late race challenges from Jake Masters and Matt Speckman to take his second win of 2019 at Hancock County. Masters, Speckman, Lund and fourteenth place starter Derek Green finished second through fifth respectively.

On Tuesday Night, the Hancock County Speedway hosted the Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour during the Hancock County District Fair. All time series leader Richie Gustin continues his strangle hold on the 2019 tour by grabbing his 11th career Tour Win and his third win in as many races this season.

Seventy-five cars checked in for the Tuesday Night Race including Thirty-One Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour IMCA Modifieds, 16 House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods, 13 Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars and 15 MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks. Johnathon Logue inherited the front row and he took full advantage by jumping out to the race lead. The caution came out again on lap two when Josh Appel and Ariel Mueller get together in turn four. Logue held on to the lead on the bottom side meanwhile Nate Whitehurst and Colby Fett took to the top side. Logue, Whitehurst and Fett got into a three car battle for the race lead. In the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, it was the Nielsen Brothers from Spencer jumping out to the top spots. Kilwine Adds His Name to History Books at Boone Speedway

After spending that last few saturday's at home with it being extremely hot or the weather questionable, the decision was made to go somewhere this week. I loaded up my camera bag and my clipboard to keep notes and made the trip west on Highway 30 to the Boone Speedway for a Saturday Night Weekly Racing Series Night plus the Outlaw Mini Mods.

It was action packed night with all regular classes in competition and a first time visit for the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini Mods Series. 129 cars signed in on Saturday Night including 11 Outlaw Mini Mods and 9 Cruisers. The IMCA Stock Cars also had a King of the Hill on the night.

Before the features got going the IMCA Stock Cars King of the Hill was ran. Devin Smith took the win ahead of Rod Richards, Scott Davis and Josh Daniels in the final round to nab the top prize in the King of the Hill.

First feature of the night was the 20 Lap K1 Race Gear IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars feature. Shadrach Sporaa led the first ten laps before Val Urman took the top spot away on lap 11. Urman pulled away a cruised to the checkered flag and the win. Sporaa finish second, Mike Houseman Jr was third, Ryan Navratil was fourth and Tyler Thompson was fifth.

Travis Stensland grabbed the lead early in the MyRacePass Mod Lites 15 lap feature event. Stensland tried to hold off his father Jeff Stensland meanwhile "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins was able to get by both of them on lap four. Huggins held on to take the feature win with Travis Stensland finishing second. Mike Kennedy took third away from Jeff Stensland. Bryan Zehm came across in fifth place.

The caution came out before a lap was scored in the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini Mods 12 lap feature when Lucas Daniels spun in turn one and two. Nathan Kilwine started fourth but by the end of lap one, he was the man in command. Kilwine and the field was slowed when the caution came out on lap four for Chase Daniels getting upside down in turn one and two. Kilwine fend off a couple of looks from Logan Brown to be the first Outlaw Mini Mods feature winner in Boone. Brown, Bobby Daniels, Micheal Bryant and Tanner Prehn rounded out the top five.

Brandon Patava started on the pole for the Elmquist Towing IMCA Northern Sport Mods 18 lap feature event and he took full advantage of that. Patava led all 18 laps but was challenged by Dustin Lynch and Cam Reimers several times through out the event. Their was a pair of cautions, first one on lap two when Michael Miller and Brett Vanderheiden get together in turn four and then on lap seven for a driveshaft on the front stretch. Patava went on to take his first win ahead of Lynch, Reimers, twelveth place starter Jake McBirnie and Curtis Veber.

Jason Asbe wrestled the lead away early in the Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature from Chad Louk. Asbe looked strong until the caution came out on lap three for Dennis Pittman in turn four and Eric Elliott sitting off the topside of turn three. Asbe got a great restart but the caution came out again on lap five when Anthony Hofbauer came to a stop in turn one. Asbe was determined to not be denied as he held off challenges but the caution came out on lap 12 for Joel Bushore in turn three. Asbe inital held off all challenges until the final caution came out on lap 15 for Cory Tasler in turn four. Asbe had to contend with Tony Cox and Jimmy Gustin on the final restart, when Asbe slid up left the door open Gustin pounced and took the top spot away. Gustin went on to take the feature win. Cox finished second, Louk finished third, thirteenth place starter Scott Hogan was fourth and seventh place starter Kenny Wyman Jr was fifth.

In the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature, Sean Dennis led the opening lap but would spin in turn two. When Dennis spun the incident collected a total of nine cars with some kind of damage with the most damage on Mark Hidlebaugh and Laura Curry cars. Jesse Smith inherited the lead which he held on too until a restart after a caution on lap two for Kellie Drury, Kyle Rose and Joe Brenner in turn two. Rod Richards got a great restart after avoiding those incidents to take over the lead but the caution came out again two more times. On lap five, Kevin Opheim and Joe Hofbauer was sitting in turn two. On Lap nine, Robert Stofer and Scott Davis in turn four. Richards led the remaining laps to take the feature win. Andrew Burg finished second ahead of third place finisher Josh Daniels. Wayne Gifford and Brock Badger was fourth and fifth respectively.

Miciah Hidlebaugh jumped out to the early lead in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event and looked to be getting his first win in Boone. The only caution came out on lap nine for James Johnson in turn three after contact made by Mike Smith. Aikey Takes Two on Dale DeFrance & Bill Davis Memorial Night in Motown

Finally beautiful weather allowed Marshalltown Speedway to get the Memorial Races in honor of Dale DeFrance and Bill Davis Sr to take place after both fell to early season rain outs. Dale DeFrance passed away on May 22nd, 2017 and Bill Davis Sr passed away on January 10th, 2018. Both of them were actively involved in the racing world and loved spending time with family, usually at the races somewhere. This was the second annual event in honor of DeFrance, orginally scheduled for May 9th, and Inaugural event in honor of Davis, originally scheduled for April 11th. The event was also part of the Central Iowa Fair.

One Hundred Twenty Six Cars signed in to have their names written down in the history books on this very special night remembering two great men, the night was a non-track point night. Twenty-Seven IMCA Sport Mods, 21 IMCA Stock Cars, 21 IMCA Late Models, 20 IMCA Hobby Stocks and 17 Mod Lites. Jeff Aikey nabbed both the Late Models and Modifieds feature wins. Todd Reitzler won the Stock Cars, Brayton Carter won the Sport Mods, Eric Stanton won the Hobby Stocks and Dillon Raffurty won the Mod Lites. Final checkered flag was displayed at 10:44 pm.

First feature of the night was the 15 lap Mod Lites feature event. Independence, Missouri Driver Dillon Raffurty wrestled the lead away from Mike Zemo early and never looked back. Raffurty held off Zemo and not even lap traffic would prevent him from taking his first win at Marshalltown. Zemo ran second the entire way and Track Point Leader Mike Morrill ran third from lap five on. Joel Huggins, known as Huggie Bear finished fourth and Tanner Gannon finished fifth.

Leah Wroten grabbed the early lead in the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature. Eric Stanton took the top spot away on lap four from Wroten and begun to pull away. Stanton, who started sixth, motored on to the easy win with only lap traffic slowing him down late. Wroten settled in to second, seventh place starter Kaden Reynolds was third, Jamie Coady was fourth and Zach Hovell was fifth.

Josh Sink and Bill Hildreth led the field to the green in the IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature but by the end of lap one it was
"Speedy Bray" Brayton Carter from Oskaloosa in the top spot. Carter held of Cam Reimers and Jenae Gustin before the caution came out on lap two when Brian Lepa spun in turn two. Carter continued to hold of Gustin, Reimers and eleventh place starter Jake McBirnie until the caution came out on lap seven for Curt Hilmer in turn one. Carter and the field saw the caution come out again on lap eight, first for debris on the front stretch and then on the restart for Andrew Sneller and Michael Parcel in turn four. Carter held off all challenges Gustin and McBirnie threw at him to take the win. McBirnie finished second, Gustin was third. Travis Peterson and Reimers finished fourth and fifth.

Up next was the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" the IMCA Stock Cars for their 18 lap feature. Todd Reitzler and Jeff Wollam redrew the front row with Reitzler grabbing the early lead. Just after one lap was scored the caution came out for Austin Even and Kenzie Ritter in turn two and then on the restart again for Kenzie Ritter in turn two. Reitzler and the field struggled to find some momentum because the caution came out again just after lap two was scored for Donavon Smith, Even and Dustin Vis in turn two. Reitzler got a great restart but Wollam reeled him back down late to make a bid for the race lead. Reitzler held tough until the caution came outo on lap 16 when Jeff Mueller came to a stop in turn three. Reitzler held tough and took the win meanwhile Wollam was spun in turn four coming to the checkers by David Brandies, Brandies was scored by Wollam in 13th. Twelveth place starter Damon Murty, eighteenth place starter Steve Meyer, twelveth place starter Shawn Ritter and Kyle Everts rounded out the top five.

After having the intial start called back in the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature, Ronn Lauritzen grabbed the early lead until Jeff Aikey took a liking on the top side of the speedway. Aikey worked that line to his advantage to take the lead away on lap six. The only in race caution came out on lap seven for Todd Shute sliding off the top side of turn four. Aikey was chased by Ryan Gustin the entire distance but held strong for the win. Gustin was second, California's Ethan Dotson was third, twelveth place starter Richie Gustin was fourth and "The Z-Man" Zack Vanderbeek was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 44 lap IMCA Late Models feature, in memory of Dale DeFrance car number. Dale's son Darrel DeFrance drew 44 when sigining in on the night and then redrew the pole for the feature so just maybe luck was going to be on his side. DeFrance took advantage and jumped out to the early race lead until a caution came out on lap two for Kyle Hinrichs in turn one. DeFrance continued to lead until "G-Money" Richie Gustin Jr took the top spot away on lap six. Gustin and Brian Harris battled out for the race lead with Gustin being scored the leader since Harris jumped the restart on lap two. A pair of 77 cars, Nebraska's Cory Dumpert and Jeff Aikey was making their way through the field before a caution came out on lap 37 when Hinrichs spun turn two. Aikey took the top spot away on lap 39 just before a caution came out when Greg Kastli came to a restart just off the topside of turn one. Shryock, Bass, Crimmins, Sommerfeld and Monson Win at Sports Park Raceway

With the Benton County Speedway in Vinton taking the week off after running the Hogan Memorial on Wednesday, the plan was to head to Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge for a night of racing with the camera however that changed on Friday when Ryan Bergeson asked me to go fill in for him on Sunday. Without hesitation I said yes I would fill in because it was so much fun the first time.

It was a beautiful night for racing action as it wasn't hot like the week before the racing was hot and heavy. There was two, three and sometimes four wide racing on Sunday Night. Sixty-Eight drivers checked in pitside including Thirteen IMCA Modifieds, Seventeen IMCA Sport Mods, Fifteen IMCA Stock Cars, Thirteen IMCA Hobby Stocks and Ten IMCA Sport Compacts. Final checkered flag was displayed at 9:15pm.

Each week when drivers arrive at the race track, they draw a poker chip out of a bucket. Red Poker Chip means you get your pit pass money back, you race for an extra $100 if you keep your starting spot or an extra $200 if you started last and win. Two drivers drew the lucky red chips this week, John Gill in Sport Compacts and Joel Tigges in Stock Cars, only Gill took the challenge.

First feature of the night was the 10 lap IMCA Sport Compacts. Tyler Fiebelkorn led the opening lap before Oliver Monson worked his way by on lap two. Monson pulled away to take the win, 4th win in Fort Dodge, meanwhile Jade Lange chased him down to finish second. John Gill worked his way through the field to finish third but need a caution to make it interesting since he accepted the poker challenge. Fiebelkorn fell back to fourth and Mick Evans was fifth.

Before a lap was compled in the 15 lap Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks feature the caution came out two times. First caution was for Drew Barglof getting spun in turn four after contact with Riley Crimmins, Barglof got his spot back with Crimmins to the tail for questionable driving. On the restart, David Gilliland was spun off the backstretch by Wade Gilliland meanwhile as race officials called for a yellow, it was replaced with a red flag when Wade Gilliland flipped on his side on the frontstretch. Danny Sassman Jr wrestled the early race lead away from Barglof on the restart and led until a caution on lap five for Lincoln Miller sitting on the front stretch. Sassman lost the lead to Bryce Sommerfeld on the restart. The caution came out one more time on lap seven for Jeff Fink stopping in turn two. Sommerfeld got a great restart and went on to take his second win of the season. Crimmins worked his way back up to finish second, Sassman finished in third. Barglof and David Gilliland finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Justin Patterson led the openinf lap of the 15 lap Scrap Processors IMCA Sport Mods feature before Jason Bass took the lead away on lap two. Bass began to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap four, five and six. Lap four caution was for Justin Bettin in turn three, lap five caution was for Lucas Jones in turn two, lap six caution was for Bettin again in turn two. Bass was determined to not be denied the win as he held off challenges from Jake McBirnie on the restarts to nabbed his second win at Sports Park. McBirnie took second ahead of Jake Sachau, driving Tim Judd's No. 31 car. Doug Cook and Hunter Longnecker rounded out the top five.

The Silgan Containers IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature, certainly showed why the they are known as the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" beacuse they were two, three and four wide inlcuding a late race pass for the win. Cory Roe and Parker Slagle led the field to the green flag. Slagle grabbed the lead pulled away looked to be going on to take the win but Bill Crimmins made the pass for the lead. Crimmins went on to take his third straight win ahead of tenth place starter Jake Masters, Slagle, Joel Tigges and Jeff Deal.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modifieds feature event. Ryan Griffith jumped out to the early race lead but just after one lap was completed the caution came out for Jason Hickingbottom off top side of turn four. Kelly Shryock got a great restart worked his way to second by the end of lap two and took the lead away from Griffith on lap three. Shryock and Shane DeMey pulled away from the rest of the field until a caution came out on lap 13. The caution on lap 13 was for Bryce Summers in turn two and the final race caution came out three laps later on lap 16 for Roger Nielson in turn four. Shryock and DeMey battled it out but Shryock went on take the win. DeMey, Nate Hughes, Ethan Braaksma and Jeff James rounded out the top five.

Sports Park Raceway will be back at next sunday night July 14th for an IMCA Weekly Racing Series with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Gates Open at 4pm, Hot Laps at 6pm and Racing to Follow.

Murty Nabs First Career IMCA Stock Car Win in MoTown

With the Hancock County Speedway in Britt taking the night off for the 4th of July weekend that meant making a return visit to the Marshalltown Speedway for a beautiful night of racing action. The Night was sponsored by Central Iowa Farm Stores and KMJ Performance of Ames & Story City. Thanks to KMJ Performance all fans in the grandstands were admitted free and to counter that they also sponsored the Free Broadcast on Speed Shift TV.

One Hundred and seventeen cars checked in on Friday including Twenty-Four IMCA Modifieds, Twenty-Two IMCA Sport Mods, Twenty-Two IMCA Hobby Stocks, Twenty-One IMCA Stock Cars, Fourteen IMCA Late Models and Fourteen Mod Lites. Jeff Aikey (Modifieds), Brayton Carter (Sport Mods), Leah Wroten (Hobby Stocks), Jeff Stensland (Mod Lites) and Dallon Murty (Stock Cars) all claim feature wins.

First feature of the night was the Mod Lites 15 lap feature. Cory Sonner jumped out the early race lead but Joe Glick took the top spot away on lap four. Shortly after Sonner spins in turn two bringing out the yellow. Glick got a great restart and pulled away until late stages of the feature meanwhile Doug Byers jumped the start but got a break when the caution waived on lap 13. The caution was for Tanner Gannon coming to a stop in turn two. Glick saw Jeff Stensland get a great restart and wrestle the lead away. Stensland goes on to take the feature win. Glick finished second, Mike Morrill moved up six spots to finish third. "Huggie Bear" Joel Huggins finished fourth and Terry Brown finished fifth.

Before a single lap was completed in the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event, the caution came out for debris in turn one. Travis Merical grabbed the lead on the restart and lead until the caution came out on lap two for Kaden Reynolds going off the topside of turn four. Leah Wroten restarted third but took the top spot away on the restart meanwhile Merical, Ben Newhouse and Zach Hovell got together but everybody kept moving. Wroten and the field saw the caution come out on lap six for Dan Brady in turn two. Wroten paced the field to lead the remaining laps to take her second feature win in Motown. As the checkered flag was coming out Colton Wersinger came to a stop in turn three with a fire under the hood, it took track crew little bit to put the fire out. Bill Bonnett finished second with Newhouse in third. Zach Hovell crossed the line in fourth but was disqualifed in post-race tech so that moved up Jacob Floyd to fourth and Justin Ginther to fifth.

Just like the Hobbys the 18 lap IMCA Sport Mod feature event saw the caution come out for Jared Dew came to a stop in turn two. Jason Hall grabbed the top spot when the race got going and holding onto the top spot until lap five when the caution came out. Hall spun all by himself on the topside of turn three. With Hall spinning that handed the lead over to Ronnie Hults. Hults lead until lap eight when Tony Olson wrestled the lead away. The caution came out on lap nine for Jason Pansegrau spinning in turn two. Tony Olson lost the lead on the restart to twelveth place starter "Speedy Bray" Brayton Carter. Carter held off Olson and eleventh place starter Jake McBirnie to take win number four in Motown this year. Olson finished second and McBirnie finished third. Thomas Egenberger, Travis Peterson and Hults rounded out the top five.

The Class Too Tough Too Tame 18 lap IMCA Stock Car feature event started out wild when Todd Reitzler made contact with Jeff Wollam going into to turn one sending Wollam over the topside of turn one. Wollam rolled once and climbed from the car okay but unfortunately ended his night. The "Game Changer" Dallon Murty started third but by the end of lap one was in the top spot. Murty began to pull away and lead all eighteen laps in route to take his first ever IMCA Stock Car feature win. Murty's first Stock Car feature win was two years ago at the Hamilton County Speedway in the unsanctioned Stock Cars. Tenth place starter Steve Meyer worked his way up to finish second, Shawn Ritter finished third, Todd Reitzler was fourth and David Atcher was fifth.

Dalton Simonsen led the first two laps of the 20 lap IMCA Late Model feature before a pair of cautions came out. First caution on lap two was for Kyle Hinrichs and Jenna Johnson in bottom of turn two. On the restart, the caution came out when Jill George and Bryce Carey got together on the back stretch. Todd Cooney got a great restart and took the top spot way on the restart only to see the caution come out again on lap three when Curtis Glover hits the wall on the front stretch before coming to a stop in turn one. Cooney led the remaining laps depsite challenges from Jeremiah Hurst to take win number two in Motown. Hurst finished a close second with Hometown favorite Darrel DeFrance in third. Simonsen fell back to fourth and Luke Pestka was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 25 lap $1,000 to wim IMCA Modifieds feature event. The caution came out before a lap was scored when Rod Clement went off the top side of turn three and then again on the restart when three cars got together (Anthony Hofbauer, Austin Howes and Austin Kuehl) in turn two. Jeff Aikey wrestled the lead away early from Nick Roberts. Aikey had to contend with Richie Gustin and Joel Rust but once again the caution came out on lap three for Nick Roberts and Ronn Lauritzen getting together in turn four. Aikey got some great restart but once again on saw the caution come out on lap nine and ten. The caution came out on lap nine for Jason Morehouse going off the top side of turns one and two. A lap later the caution come out when Hofbauer and Clement get together in turn one. Aikey went onto to lead the entire distance to take the win ahead of Rust, Cody Laney, Tim Ward an Kollin Hibdon.
