Abreu Takes All Stars and Williamson Takes 360s on Weiler Night at Knoxville

Well after Friday Night got rained out at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway, I started to figure out where to go for some racing on Saturday Night. Options were Boone Speedway for the Salute to Veterans Night, Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City for the Hamilton County Fair Saturday Night Classic, Adams County Speedway in Corning for the Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial or the famous Knoxville Raceway for Weiler Night.

After a friend offered me a ride to go down to the Knoxville Raceway, the decision was made to head down for Weiler Night featuring the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1. We left Marshalltown around 5:30p and arrived in Knoxville right as Hot Laps was beginning for the 360 Sprints. They ran 360 Hot Laps, 360 Time Trials, 410 Hot Laps and then 410 Time Trials. I was glad though I went to Knoxville because we were on the road before the features in Boone was completed. It was also nice to hear my good friend "Birthday Boy" Blake Anderson, the official voice of the All Star Sprints, behind the microphone with Tony Bokhoven and Kris Krug.

A total of One hundred and three cars in the pit area, 51 All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprints and fifty-two 360 Sprints getting ready for the Knoxville 360 Nationals. The racing surface was fantastic and Knoxville Nationals form and it produced some amazing racing all night long.

First feature was the 360 Sprints eighteen lap feature event and it was wild feature. Garet Williamson took the race lead right away but just two laps in the red flag came out. It started when Jamie Ball spun, Sammy Swindell had nowhere to go and flipped and Davie Franek then made heavy contact with Swindell. Franek was taken in for observation. On the restart, Tony Rost flipped in turn one bringing out the red flag again. Williamson held off Reutzel on the restart as Chase Randall worked his way into third. The red flag came out again on lap five when sixth place Kade Higday flipped after hitting the berm in turn three and four.

The feature managed to go the final 13 laps without any interruption. Williamson was not going to be denied as he ended up leading all eighteen laps claiming his second win at Knoxville this season. Reutzel tried to chase down Williamson but came home second, Randall was third, Clint Garner won out a battle with Kelby Watt for the fourth putting Watt in fifth.

In the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, twenty-five lap feature event it was pole sitter Michael "Buddy" Kofoid grabbing the early race fending off Anthony Macri, Justin Sanders, Justin Henderson and Rico Abreu. The first caution came out on lap three when Jamie Ball came to a stop in turn three. Kofoid continued to lead the away meanwhile Abreu was working his way through and worked his way up to second. Lap traffic started to get heavy in front of Kofoid allowing Abreu to reel him in.

Abreu pulled the slidejob on lap 12 on Kofoid going in turn one to take the race lead away. Abreu started to pull away from there but the caution came out on lap 14 when Scott Boguck spun on the frontstretch. Abreu got a great restart and pulled away, cruising on to win by nearly four seconds. This was Abreu's second All Star Circuit of Champions and clearly makes him a favorite for the Knoxville Nationals. Kofoid came home second, Henderson held on to third despite late race surges from Austin McCarl and Brian Brown, who finished fourth and fifth respectively.

McBirnie Takes Dirt Crown Victory at Motown

Friday Night was picture perfect with few clouds in the sky for Vessco Inc. Highbanks After the Creek Night at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway. The night featured the Dirt Crown Stock Car Summer Series presented by Mel Hambelton Racing for IMCA Stock Cars, as they raced for a top prize of $2,000 to win.

One hundred-forty nine cars checked in to tame the high bank quarter mile dirt oval including 35 IMCA Stock Cars. The racing action was heated all night and did not disappoint those in attendance. The racing went green at 7:30p and the final checkered flag came out at 11:17pm.

First feature of the night was the Outlaw Mini Mods presented by Drury Automotive and Truck Repair 12 lap event. Lucas Daniels led the first lap but the defending champion and current point leader Ben Kraus took the top spot away on lap two. Kraus pulled away as a trio of Daniels (Lucas, Bobby and Chase) for position. They managed to go green-to-checkered with Kraus taking his eight win of the season in the Outlaw Mini Mods. Chase Daniels came home second, Matthew Grobe was able to work his way from ninth to finish third. Lucas Daniels fell back to fourth and Nathan Kilwine was fifth.

Next on the speedway was the Knight Sanitation IMCA Mod Lites 15 lap feature event. David Bailey jumped out to the race lead but shortly after lap one was scored the caution came out when Mike Morrow spun in turn three to avoid Scott Bailey, who was exiting the racing surface. David Bailey was able to hang on to the race lead until Jason Masengarb took the race lead away on lap five. The caution came out shortly after when Tiffani Dominguez came to a stop on the back stretch. Masengarb had to content with ninth place starter Jon Padilla and tenth place starter Josh May on the restart, Padilla would take the top spot away on lap seven. The final caution came out on lap eight when Brittani Dominguez came to a stop in turn three. Padilla got a great restart and got just enough gap to claim the win. May was second, Masengarb was third, Alex Eischeid in fourth and eleventh place starter Randy Bryan was fifth.

After the initial start called off in the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event and caution on the restart it was Braden Gifford taking the early race lead. Gifford led until coming to complete lap three, he spun in turn four resulting in nowhere to go for Gary Pfantz and Jake Nelson. That handed the lead over to Sam West on the following restart. West hit his marks and looked to be taking the win until the caution came out on lap 11 when 3 cars spun on the front stretch. West got a great restart and tried to pull away but the caution came out again on lap 15 when Derrick McNeece spun in turn four. West had to contend with Eric Stanton and Calvin Dhondt on the restart with Dhondt taking the race lead away on lap 16. A lap later the red flag came out when Dhondt flipped upside down on the front stretch after making contact with Eric Stanton, Dhondt was able to climb from the car. Dustin Filloon, Brett Maasdam, Chris Hupp, Bradly Graham, Zach McNeese and Solomon Bennett also suffered damage from the incident. West inherited the lead again and this time he was not going to be denied his second win of the season in Motown. "Lynnville Lightening" Corey VanDerWilt, Darin DeZwarte, Rick Kriegel and Derrick McNeece rounded the top five. Mitchell Thomas and Andy Peck was the last two cars to finish the race.

Before a single lap was completed in the Rugged Radios IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, the caution came out when Josalyn Elmqust, Kaden Besaw and Trevor Tanner spun in turn one. On the restart, Jenae Gustin driving Jason Pansegrau's car again grabbed the race lead. Gustin received pressure from Brady Hilmer and Matt Avila until the caution came out again on lap two when Besaw, Shane Palmer, Tanner and Curt Hilmer on the front stretch. Gustin was not going to be denied as she pulled away and went on to take the feature win, her third win of the year. Brady Hilmer was second, Avila was third, twelfth place starter Brayton Carter was fourth and Travis Peterson was fifth.

In the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 30 lap feature for the Dirt Crown Summer Series presented by Mel Hambelton Racing, it was Jake McBirnie grabbed the race lead early. McBirnie held off Damon Murty before getting a little separation until the caution came out on lap ten when Micheal Smith spun in turn two. McBirnie held off Murty and Kaden Reynolds on the restart and once again pulled away just a bit only to see the caution come out on lap 17 for debris in turn four. McBirnie flexed his muscled on the restart again and then saw cautions on lap 21 and 23. For McBirnie, you had to wonder if Murty was going to take the top spot away but instead McBirnie held tough again. The final caution came out when Chanse Hollatz went off the top of turn three resulting the caution coming out. McBirnie held on to take the $2,000 feature win and make his way to the Conklin Vehicle Products Victory Lane. Murty, Reynolds, Troy Jerovetz and Jim Horejsi rounded out the top five. Horejsi moved up seventeen spots and was the Hammer Down Hard Charger.

Final feature of the night was the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event but before a single lap was scored the caution came out when Jeff Kriz spun in turn one. Richie Gustin jumped out to the race lead on the restart and he held on to that until the caution came out on lap four when Nick Roberts went off the top of turn three and four. Joel Rust got a great restart and took the top spot away. Rust was able to pull away and go on to to claim the win, a great way to celebrate his son Emmett 1st birthday and his sister Jen's birthday. Todd Shute worked his way from eleventh and tried to chase down Rust but settled for second. Jake McBirnie came home in thrid, Tripp Gaylord was fourth and Izac Mallicoat was fifth.

Next Friday Night at the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway is the 6th Annual Dale DeFrance Memorial presented by Vinyl Cup Records featuring the Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Models for $4,644 to win. Redneck Races at Motown and Racing at Dallas County, All in One Day

Saturday my afternoon and evening of racing started by announcing the Marshalltown Redneck Races presented by J&M Fabrications at the Central Iowa Fair. It was a race of FWD, FWD Trucks / SUV's and Outlaw Trucks racing on the oval along with having some jumps and chicanes. It was a lot of fun to announce them and yeah the count was a little low but it was still a really good event.

The Marshalltown Redneck Race was made possible by J&M Fabrication, Hogeland Auto Plaza, Local UAW 893, Hoskins Construction, Kramer Fabrication, Construct, Maytag and the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway. There was also a kids candy dash during the intermission after the heats. Racing started at 3:30p and was completed right around 5p.

----------------------

We got done in time I message Dallas County Fairgrounds Speedway Promoter Jimmy Keenan that I would be make the trip over for the Dallas County Fair Races so made the little over hour trip over and got to the track just as hot laps was wrapping up after making the long walk from the car and got my pass to get in.

There was a great field of cars checked in for the Dallas County Fair Races and the battles on the track proved it was going to be a great night of racing. There was event Fireworks after the races was over, I did not stick around though for those as the final checkered flag was displayed at 11:15pm. I made the walk back to my car to start my drive back to Marshalltown after my long day.

First feature of the night was the Winged Micro Sprints 15 lap feature event, Carson Berglund out wrestled Brantley Tjaden for the race lead. Berglund held off the challenged from Tjaden until Tjaden went to the infield because of minor mechanical issues. Berglund led from start to finish to take the feature win. Derrike Clark came home in second, Tim Young in third, Jackson Gray was fourth and Tjaden was fifth.

Next up was the Open Figure 8 feature event for 15 laps. Casey McKasson was able to lead from start to finish fending off pressure from Dylan McKasson. Casey won, Dylan second, Aubrey McKasson ran third and Joey Grubbs fourth.

Alexandria O'Neill and Rob Jones led the first five laps of the Cruisers feature event before Ethan Thompson and Cody Wirt took the lead on lap six. Thompson and Wirt slipped up allowing Will Aldridge and partner to take over the race race lead on lap nine. Thompson and Wirt regained the lead on lap ten and went on to take the feature win. Aldridge and partner finished runner-up, Cameron and Autumn Van Wyk was third, Dylan McKasson and Braden McKasson finished fourth and Chris and Shelbie Mitchell was fifth.

The Hobby Stocks feature event was up next and it was Travis Fenton jumping out to the race lead. Fenton fended off early pressure from Mike Eddinger before pulling away only to see Leonard Loftus reel him down to apply pressure. Loftus and Joey Young would make contact with each other however both cars would get moving before the caution came out when David Castellano was sitting in turn one. Fenton held off Loftus and Young again on the restart and those two would get together on lap 13 in turn four forcing Loftus to go to the tail. This is where it gets interesting as the drivers was told on the radio it will be 1 to go at the flag stand next time by but instead they went green allowing Young to take the lead and cruising on to take the win. However Young and Fenton, both felt that was not right so they lined them back up to do the final two laps. Eddinger and Kenny Johnson got together on the front stretch (grandstands) on the restart. Fenton led the final two laps to claim the victory, Garrett Croy was able to claim second away from Young. Blake McCann and JR Croy rounded out the top five.

Joey Young led all fifteen laps of the Stock Figure 8 feature event. Chris Mitchell came home second, Joey Grubbs was third, JR Tarter was fourth and Seth Parker in fifth.

Redemption was the key in the Wingless Micro Sprints 15 lap feature event as "The Bullet" Brantley Tjaden jumped out to the race lead. Tjaden fended off challenges from Carson Berglund, before Berglund spun. Tjaden went on to take the feature win. Jackson Gray finished second, Berglund spun but managed to finish third, Derrike Clark was fourth and Tim Young was fifth.

In the Junior Front Wheel Drive feature event, Gabriel Hoover led from start to finish to take the feature win in his final year of the Junior class. Carter Cleghorn, Wyatt Routh, Julia Langille and Hailie Haynes rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Front Wheel Drive 15 lap feature event and the caution came out twice before a single lap was scored. Daniel Clayton was able to jump out to the race lead and he managed to lead the first three laps. Gaylord, Carter and Ballard Among Winners on Rumours Bar & Grill Night

After Thursday Night's rains, it was question if the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway will race on Rumours Bar & Grill Salute to Marshall County Law Enforcement, First Responders and EMT's night during the Central Iowa Fair. Speedway officials let the track and pits dry out a little bit and got to work to get the night in. After dodging some more rain showers around 5pm, the speedway was able to go on with the regular night of racing.

One hundred-thirty four cars checked in to tame the high bank quarter mile on Friday night. The racing action was great all night long and it was picture perfect night for racing in Marshalltown. The infield was a little wet in some spots forcing tech to move to the pit area. Hot Laps was a little behind schedule pushing the start time a little behind but all the racing action wrapped up at 10:54pm.

With it being the Central Iowa Fair week, there was royalty in the house as the Central Iowa Fair Queen Lily Fischer, first runner-up Ella Wertz and Little Princess Abigail Hoyt was in attendance to catch racing action taking a break from showing the animals, 4-H and FFA projects.

First feature of the night was the Hy-Vee IMCA Sport Compacts 15 lap feature event, It was "Ricky Bobby" Mitchell Bunch jumping out to the race lead right away but just after one lap scored, David Kimmel went sliding towards the infield billboards. Bunch got a great restart and tried to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap three when Tyler Haring came to a stop in turn two after losing a wheel. Bunch held off Kolby Sabin and started to pull away and appeared to be heading on to the easy win until a final caution came out on lap 12 when Conner Adkins in turn two. Bunch was determined to not be denied as he went on to claim victory ahead of Sabin, thirteenth place starter Andrew Bieber, Curtis Masterson and Kimmel.

William Nobles took the early lead in the Knight Sanitation IMCA Mod Lites 15 lap feature event out wrestling Scott Bailey. The caution came out on lap two when Jason Masengarb spun in turn four. Tenth place starter Josh May took the lead away from Nobles on lap four. The caution came out shortly after when Nobles spun in turn three. May held off Bailey on the restart and pulled away. May was reel in by Jon Padilla but a caution came out on lap ten when Bailey spun in turn four, that killed the momentum Padilla had to chase down May. May was able to hang on the final five laps to claim his fourth win in Motown this season. Padilla was second, RJ Gonzales was third, Joe Glick was fourth and Cory Sonner was fifth.

Before a single lap was scored in the Rugged Radios IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event when Matt Avila, Ryan King, Kyle Olson, and Christopher Frisbie spun in turn four, Avila and King sent to the tail. Logan Anderson driving "Herbie The Love Bug" grabbed the race lead as Tony Olson took second shortly after the caution came out twice on lap one. Anderson was able to hold of Tony Olson and Kyle Olson on the restart. Anderson tried to pull away but could never get away as the caution came out on lap 15 when Josalyn Elmquist spun in turn two. The final caution came out on lap 16 when Frisbie, Jessiah Taylor and Jeremiah Reed spin in turn one and two. Anderson held off Brayton Carter on the restart initial but slipped up on the final lap. Carter took advantage and was able to take the feature win. Anderson, Tony Olson, eighteenth place starter Travis Peterson and eleventh place starter Garrett Nelson round out the top five.

In the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event, "Jammer" Jimmy Gustin was able to grab the lead but the caution come out on lap one for debris in turn four and then again on the restart when Joel Rust, Bret Ramsey and Nick Roberts in turn one. Gustin led until "The Bobcat" Johnathon Logue took the top spot away on lap five. Logue was holding tough despite heavy pressure from Tripp Gaylord and "Toddzilla" Todd Shute. The caution came out on lap 13 when Chris Weimer stopped in turn one. Gaylord got a great restart and took the race lead away on the restart from Logue. The caution came out one more time on lap 17 when Brett Ramsey and Jason Morehouse on the front-stretch. Gaylord led the remaining three laps to take the feature win. Shute finished second, Gustin was third, Logue fell back to fourth and Izac Mallicoat was fifth.

The "Class Too Tough Too Tame" Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event was next on the speedway. Before they could get a lap scored the caution came out when Brad Graham spun on the front stretch. "Mrs. Dominator" Leah Wroten was able to grab the top spot early fending off challenges from Garrett Corn and Steve Meyer prior to a caution on lap four when Tobie Talk spun in turn four. Wroten led until lap seven when Meyer was able to take the race lead away. Meyer's lead was short lived as tenth place starter Nathan Ballard was able to snatch up the lead on lap nine. Ballard went on to take the feature win ahead of a hard charging Austin Kaplan, Meyer, Jeff Wollam and Corn.

Final feature of the night was the "Wild Thing" Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event. Derrick McNeece led the first lap before slipping up allowing Mark Hidlebaugh took the top spot away on lap two. Hidlebaugh led until the caution came out on lap seven when Calvin Dhondt spun on the front stretch. Eric Stanton was able to get by Hidlebaugh on lap nine. Stanton started to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap 13 when Josh Fredricksen spun in turn two and coming to the infield on fire, the fire was quickly extinguished. Stanton held on to claim the win, Bradly Graham came home in second, Seth Bulter was third, Hidlebaugh in fourth and Sam West in fifth.

Wild and Heated Night of Racing on Kids Rides Night at Warren County

Saturday Night I decided to make the almost 70 mile trip down to the Warren County Speedway presented by TruBank for Kids Ride Night presented by Hawkeye Auto Salvage and Southtown Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. I brought the camera along to take pictures since the normal photographer was out of town for the weekend, I felt like it needed to be covered.

A total of eighty-nine cars checked in for race night number eight, well the sixth night that has been able to get at the Warren County Speedway. Following Hot Laps, kids of all ages was able to ride with their favorite racers around the track for three laps before the cars headed off to the pit area for heat race action. Racing action wrapped up at 10:40p.

The racing action was heated all night along, you would have thought there was a full moon but that was earlier in the week. Racing surface was the best I have seen, Promoter Brandan Long and crew have worked hard to make it better week after week. The track was fast and dry slick last night if you had the right setup and avoided the incidents early.

With the normal track photographer Josh Bowlin out of town, I was invited to come and take pictures for the night and took 831 pictures. All pictures are posted on the Trackside Report by Foxman Facebook Page in a photo album called Warren County Kids Ride Night 7-8-23.

First feature of the night was the 20 lap Micro Sprints feature event. "The Bullet" Brantley Tjaden out wrestled Derrike Clark the race lead early. Tjaden look smooth out front and despite Travis Rewerts trying to chase him down, it looked as Tjaden was going to take the win. The caution came out though on lap 12 when Chuck Alexander broke and hit the wall under the flag stand in turn one. Rewerts will get a great restart and steal the lead away from Tjaden. Rewerts went on to take the feature win ahead of Tjaden, eighth place starter Jackson Gray, Luke Lane and Joe Dent.

Chris and Shelbie Mitchell jumped out to the race lead in the TruBank Cruisers 16 lap feature event and only one caution slowed them down. That caution was on lap eight when Will and Travis Shivers spun in turn two. Mitchell's went on to take their fifth feature win at Warren County this season. Will Aldridge and James Tarter was second, Jason and Clay Collins was third, Rob and Kirsten Niblo was fourth and Daniel and Robert Jones was fifth.

Up next was the Williams Machine Shop Open Figure 8 sixteen lap feature. Dylan McKasson out dueled David Burnell on the start to take the lead. Burnell tried to apply pressure to Dylan McKasson but could not get by as McKasson took the win. Burnell came home second, Casey McKasson ran third, Aubrey McKasson was fourth and Colton Wicker in fifth.

Brock Bush led from start to finish in the Bussanmas Heating & Cooling 16 lap Stock Figure 8 feature event. This feature went caution free. Joe Grubbs got by J Milton Tarter Jr late to finish second putting Tarter in third. Seth Parker an David Blair was fourth and fifth.

Travis Shivers grabbed the lead early in Phillips' Floors Truck 16 lap feature event. Shivers was only slowed when the caution came out on lap six when Matt Breeden got into the front stretch wall. Shivers able to get a great restart and pulled away to take the win. Robby Dittmer, Joe Graves, Cole Edgington and Clay Collins rounded out the top five.

Before a single lap was completed in the Hawkeye Auto Salvage Hobby Stocks 16 lap feature event, the caution came out twice. First one was because several cars got together in turn one. Then on the restart when Jason Collins and Taylor Wood got together in turn three. This forced speedway officials to make it a single file restart despite no laps in the books, Leonard Loftus was able to a great restart and fend off John Alexander. The caution came out one more time on lap five for Mike Eddinger coming to a stop top side of turn three. Loftus went on take the feature win, his third at Warren County. Alexander came home second, Garrett Croy was third, Travis Fenton was fourth and sixteenth place starter Preston Bright in fifth.

Katelynn Watts has been dominating the DeYarman Ford Junior Wheel Drive class this season at Warren County, Saturday night was no different as she would go on to claim her sixth win in Indianola. The red flag slowed the event though on lap two when Colton Howe drove it deep in turn three making contact with Joe Tarter forcing Tarter to flip over. Tarter climbed from the car okay, Howe brought out the caution on the restart when he slowed in turn two. Watts won the shorten down from 12 laps to eight lap feature event. Gabriel Hoover in second, Wyatt Routh in third and Howe in fourth.

Final feature of the night was the Front Wheel Drive, Tyler Haring led the first six laps before Terry Bickford was able to take the top spot away. Bickford looked to be going on to take the easy feature win but the caution came out with two laps to go when Gabe Gavin breaks and losing a wheel going into turn three. Bickford held on to gather the win ahead of Haring, Colbin Funke, twelfth place starter Matthew Howard and Dennis Hoover.
