After Thursday Night's rains, it was question if the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway will race on Rumours Bar & Grill Salute to Marshall County Law Enforcement, First Responders and EMT's night during the Central Iowa Fair. Speedway officials let the track and pits dry out a little bit and got to work to get the night in. After dodging some more rain showers around 5pm, the speedway was able to go on with the regular night of racing.
One hundred-thirty four cars checked in to tame the high bank quarter mile on Friday night. The racing action was great all night long and it was picture perfect night for racing in Marshalltown. The infield was a little wet in some spots forcing tech to move to the pit area. Hot Laps was a little behind schedule pushing the start time a little behind but all the racing action wrapped up at 10:54pm.
With it being the Central Iowa Fair week, there was royalty in the house as the Central Iowa Fair Queen Lily Fischer, first runner-up Ella Wertz and Little Princess Abigail Hoyt was in attendance to catch racing action taking a break from showing the animals, 4-H and FFA projects.
First feature of the night was the Hy-Vee IMCA Sport Compacts 15 lap feature event, It was "Ricky Bobby" Mitchell Bunch jumping out to the race lead right away but just after one lap scored, David Kimmel went sliding towards the infield billboards. Bunch got a great restart and tried to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap three when Tyler Haring came to a stop in turn two after losing a wheel. Bunch held off Kolby Sabin and started to pull away and appeared to be heading on to the easy win until a final caution came out on lap 12 when Conner Adkins in turn two. Bunch was determined to not be denied as he went on to claim victory ahead of Sabin, thirteenth place starter Andrew Bieber, Curtis Masterson and Kimmel.
William Nobles took the early lead in the Knight Sanitation IMCA Mod Lites 15 lap feature event out wrestling Scott Bailey. The caution came out on lap two when Jason Masengarb spun in turn four. Tenth place starter Josh May took the lead away from Nobles on lap four. The caution came out shortly after when Nobles spun in turn three. May held off Bailey on the restart and pulled away. May was reel in by Jon Padilla but a caution came out on lap ten when Bailey spun in turn four, that killed the momentum Padilla had to chase down May. May was able to hang on the final five laps to claim his fourth win in Motown this season. Padilla was second, RJ Gonzales was third, Joe Glick was fourth and Cory Sonner was fifth.
Before a single lap was scored in the Rugged Radios IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event when Matt Avila, Ryan King, Kyle Olson, and Christopher Frisbie spun in turn four, Avila and King sent to the tail. Logan Anderson driving "Herbie The Love Bug" grabbed the race lead as Tony Olson took second shortly after the caution came out twice on lap one. Anderson was able to hold of Tony Olson and Kyle Olson on the restart. Anderson tried to pull away but could never get away as the caution came out on lap 15 when Josalyn Elmquist spun in turn two. The final caution came out on lap 16 when Frisbie, Jessiah Taylor and Jeremiah Reed spin in turn one and two. Anderson held off Brayton Carter on the restart initial but slipped up on the final lap. Carter took advantage and was able to take the feature win. Anderson, Tony Olson, eighteenth place starter Travis Peterson and eleventh place starter Garrett Nelson round out the top five.
In the Tire Demon by Love Tap IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event, "Jammer" Jimmy Gustin was able to grab the lead but the caution come out on lap one for debris in turn four and then again on the restart when Joel Rust, Bret Ramsey and Nick Roberts in turn one. Gustin led until "The Bobcat" Johnathon Logue took the top spot away on lap five. Logue was holding tough despite heavy pressure from Tripp Gaylord and "Toddzilla" Todd Shute. The caution came out on lap 13 when Chris Weimer stopped in turn one. Gaylord got a great restart and took the race lead away on the restart from Logue. The caution came out one more time on lap 17 when Brett Ramsey and Jason Morehouse on the front-stretch. Gaylord led the remaining three laps to take the feature win. Shute finished second, Gustin was third, Logue fell back to fourth and Izac Mallicoat was fifth.
The "Class Too Tough Too Tame" Drury Automotive and Truck Repair IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event was next on the speedway. Before they could get a lap scored the caution came out when Brad Graham spun on the front stretch. "Mrs. Dominator" Leah Wroten was able to grab the top spot early fending off challenges from Garrett Corn and Steve Meyer prior to a caution on lap four when Tobie Talk spun in turn four. Wroten led until lap seven when Meyer was able to take the race lead away. Meyer's lead was short lived as tenth place starter Nathan Ballard was able to snatch up the lead on lap nine. Ballard went on to take the feature win ahead of a hard charging Austin Kaplan, Meyer, Jeff Wollam and Corn.
Final feature of the night was the "Wild Thing" Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event. Derrick McNeece led the first lap before slipping up allowing Mark Hidlebaugh took the top spot away on lap two. Hidlebaugh led until the caution came out on lap seven when Calvin Dhondt spun on the front stretch. Eric Stanton was able to get by Hidlebaugh on lap nine. Stanton started to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap 13 when Josh Fredricksen spun in turn two and coming to the infield on fire, the fire was quickly extinguished. Stanton held on to claim the win, Bradly Graham came home in second, Seth Bulter was third, Hidlebaugh in fourth and Sam West in fifth.
