McKenna Takes the Super Late Models Win in Indee

Saturday Night I decided to make a trip up to the Independence Motor Speedway for the Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Models East Series Race. The weather was fantastic and the racing was exciting at times through out the night. Track Manager Justin Temeyer and Promoter Mick Trier are making racing again great at the Independence Motor Speedway.

One Hundred Four Cars signed in to take to the 3/8 mile bank dirt located on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. Thirty-One of those was the Super Late Models, 25 Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds, 16 Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars, 16 Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods and 17 Christie Door Company IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Charlie McKenna won the Late Models, Kip Siems took checkers first in the IMCA Sport Mods. Kaden Reynolds won in the IMCA Hobby Stocks, Cole Mather won in the IMCA Stock Cars and Chris Simpson won in the IMCA Modifieds.

First feature of the night was the Burco Sales IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event. Kyle Olson wrestled the lead early from fellow front row starter Vern Jackson but Jackson stayed close and Nate Smith added his name to the mix on lap two. A lap later on lap three, the first caution came out when Brandon Tharp slid off the top side of turn two. Kyle Olson held off Smith and Jackson on the restart until the caution came out on lap seven for Jordan Dumer slid off the top of turn four. Kyle Olson knew cousin Tony Olson was coming through the field on the restart he was on back bumper along with Kip Siems. Tony Olson and Jackson got together on lap ten forcing Tony Olson off the top side of turn four. This restart allowed Kip Siems to steal the lead away from Kyle Olson and Siems held off challenges from Kyle Olson despite a caution on lap 11 for Troy Bauer in turn four and lap 13 for Carl Reninger in turn two. Siems taking the win ahead of Kyle Olson, Smith, Tony Olson and Jackson.

In the Christie Door Company IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, Kaden Reynolds started third but the end of lap one he found himself in the race lead passing front row starters Dru Kueker and Justin Hanson. The only race caution came out on lap two when Kolton Krob spun in the bottom side of turn four. Reynolds and Brett Vanous battled it out for the race lead with Reynolds leading the first six laps. Vanous edged out Reynolds on lap seven but Reynolds regained the top spot on lap eight. Reynolds went on to take his third Indee win in four races this season. Tyler Ollendieck grabbed the runner-up spot on the final lap when Vanous appeared to have cut a right rear tire coming to the checkers. Vanous managed to finish third, Kueker was fourth and Marcus Wayne was fifth.

The Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Models were up next for their 35 lap feature. After Qualifying, Heats, B-Features and Provisional set the field of twenty-two cars to start the feature it was showtime. "Chargin" Charlie McKenna and Joel Callahan started on the front row. McKenna took advantage of that by grabbing the top spot early fending off challenges from Callahan. Callahan battled it out with Matt Ryan and Justin Kay while McKenna pulled away until the caution came out on lap 14 when Luke Pestka slid off the top side of turn one, Darrel DeFrance received the Lucky Dog to place him back on the lead lap. McKenna held off Callahan and Ryan on the restart and cruising on the top side of the speedway. The caution came out again on lap 20 when JC Wyman and Dylan Schmer got together in turn two. McKenna was not fazed as he got another great restart and pulled away. McKenna went on to take his first SLMR Late Model win and won by nearly a full straightway. Ryan, Kay, Jeff Aikey and Callahan rounded out the top five. Ryan had quick time in time trials. Ryan, Schmer, Chris Simpson and JC Wyman won the Heats meanwhile Curt Martin and Jason Hahne took wins in the B-Features.

Tom Schmitt grabbed the lead early in the Dominator Chassis IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature. The only caution came out on lap three when Kevin Rose and Hannah Chesmore got together on the bottom side of turn four. Schmitt hung on to the lead until Cole Mather worked the bottom side and stole the lead away. Mather went on to take the win with Schmitt finishing second. Jarod Weepie finished third, Chris Luloff was fourth and Leah Wroten was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature. "Kid Smooth" Kollin Hibdon from Pahrump, Nevada grabbed early lead and looked to be heading on to the win until the caution came out on lap four when Ed Thomas and another car got together in turn three. Hibdon held off Chris Simpson on the restart but the caution again came out on lap five. Hibdon and the field then saw the red flag come out on lap nine for a medical emergency in the pit area. When the race resumed Hibdon and Simpson battled for the lead but the red flag again came out when Jordan Hicks rolled in turn four. Hibdon hung on to the lead until Simpson was finally able to take it away on lap 12. Simpson went on to take the win, Brennen Chipps got by Hibdon for second putting Hibdon back to third. Jeff Aikey finished fourth and Ronn Lauritzen was fifth.

Racing action came to and end at 9:44pm putting me back on the road around 10pm to make the 85 mile drive back to Marshalltown.

Ten Different Winners in Eleven Features at Marshalltown

If you listen to the meteorologists, you would have thought there is no chance of getting racing action any where in Iowa including the Marshalltown Speedway because every forecast was showing rain. The thoughts were expressed by Promoter Toby Kruse during the drivers meeting last night.

Only one driver repeated and that was Kaden Reynolds in the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Brian Schrage and Kyle Olson won in the IMCA Sport Mods. Kyle Everts and Jeff Mueller each took feature wins in the IMCA Stock Cars. Joel Rust and Tom Berry won in the IMCA Modifieds. Darrel DeFrance and Dalton Simonsen took feature wins in the IMCA Late Models meanwhile Joe Glick won the only feature for the Mod Lites.

First business was to finish the show from two weeks ago, June 12th when the speedway lost power on RBF Electric Night at the Races. Thanks to Jeremiah Andrews and the gang at RBF Electric, there was no issues on this night as One Hundred and five cars signed back in to finish those races.

IMCA Sport Mods was up first with their 18 lap make-up feature and it was Brian Schrage grabbing the early lead fending off Zach Hovell early. The red flag was displayed on lap seven when Cory Van Zante rolled off the top side of turn two after get together with Tony Olson. Brian Schrage got a great restart and again fend off challenges but the caution was displayed on lap 12 when Hovell blew up in turn two and he came to a stop in turn three. Brian Schrage appeared to be the man to beat but the caution was displayed two more times. First one on lap 13 when Egenberger spun in turn two and then on lap 14 for debris on the front stretch. Brian Schrage now knew his son Austin Schrage was on the back bumper along with Kyle Olson. Brian Schrage held off them to take the checkered flag and the win. Austin Schrage finished second, Kyle Olson was third, fifteenth place starter Jenae Gustin was fourth and twenty-fourth place starter Brady Hilmer came home fifth.

Christian Huffman led the first eight laps of the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap make-up feature before Kaden Reynolds worked his way through the field to take the top spot away. Reynolds went on to lead the final seven laps to take his second win in Marshalltown. Solomon Bennett finished second, Ben Newhouse was third, tenth place starter Austin Mehmen finished fourth and twelfth place starter Mike Kincaid was fifth.

In the IMCA Late Models 15 lap make-up feature, it was Curtis Glover leading the first ten laps, he was followed by Darrel DeFrance and Logan Duffy. DeFrance however was able to take over the race lead on lap 11 and Duffy follow suit into second. Glover brought out the caution on lap 12 when he spun in turn one. DeFrance led the final three laps to go on and take the win. Glover went to the pits and Duffy exited with a flat tire so Jill George finished second ahead of Shawn Cooney, Colton Leal and Michael Leal.

Jason Hall appeared to be heading on to take the win in the 18 lap IMCA Stock Cars make-up features but a slight bobble on the final lap allowed Kyle Everts to sneak by. Everts took the win, eleventh place starter Damon Murty came home second, Todd Reitzler was third, Hall fell back to fourth andd Scott Rice was fifth.

The final make-up feature was 20 laps for the IMCA Modifieds. Ronn Lauritzen grabbed the top spot early but he had to fend off challenges from Sam Wieben. The caution came out on lap eight when Wieben slide off the top side of turn four. Laurtizen had Joel Rust and Paul Nagle on the back bumper and on lap 11, it was Rust taking over the race lead. Two more cautions came out, first one was on lap 13 for Dylan Thornton, Paul Nagle and Tim Ward in turn one. The final caution came out on lap 17 for Zack Rawlins in turn two. Rust was not to be denied as he fend off a hard charging Tom Berry Jr to take the win. Berry started twenty-second came home second. Ethan Braaksma, Lauritzen and fourteenth place starter Jared Van Deest rounded out the top five.

One Hundred and Thirty nine cars signed in for the Regular Night of Racing with a few forced to scratch because of damage received in the make-up features and heat races.

First feature of the regular night was the Mod Lites 15 lap feature event. Seventh place starter Charlie Brown found himself in the top spot on lap one. The caution came out on lap two for Matt Sorenson spinning on the back stretch. Charlie Brown got a decent restart and held off Joel Huggins and Travis Stensland on the restart but the caution came out again on lap four when Huggins and Jonathan Braathun got together in turn two. The caution was displayed again on lap seven when Bryan Compart and Chris Weir got together in turn two. Joe Glick got by Charlie Brown and the restart and held off challenges to take the win. Charlie Brown finished second, Randy Bryan was third, Bryan Zehm was fourth and Terry Brown was fifth.

Cory Pestotnik led the first lap of the IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature event before Tony Olson took the top spot away on lap two. The caution came out shortly after when Joe Luethje and Sid Hoyle got together in turn one. Tony Olson and the field saw the caution come out again on lap three when Chance Titus spun in turn one. The caution came out again on lap six for Hoyle spinning in turn two and again on lap eight for Brayton Carter spinning in turn three and four. Tony Olson appeared to be the guy destine to take the win but cousin Kyle Olson had other plans. Kyle Olson made the right move on the final lap and stole the win away from Tony Olson. Austin Kaplan, eleventh place starter Austin Schrage and ninth place starter Johnathon Logue rounded out the top five.

Before a single lap was scored in the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap regular feature, the caution was displayed for Aaron Rudolph spinning on the back-stretch. Braden Richards wrestled the lead away from fellow front row starter Christian Huffman on lap one. Ricahards fend off challenges from long-time racing veteran Bill Bonnett but Kaden Reynolds got by both of them in one move on lap seven. The caution came out, twice on lap nine first when Brian Derry and Christian Huffman got together on the front-stretch also collecting Ben Newhouse. Then again on the restart when Scott Ellis spun in turn four. Reynolds held off Bonnett and Richards to go on to make it three for three this season in Marshalltown. Richards finished second ahead of Bonnett. Eleventh place starter Austin Mehmen and ninth place starter Michael Kimm finished fourth and fifth.

Veteran and Hometown favorite Darrel DeFrance grabbed the early lead of the 15 lap IMCA Late Models feature. DeFrance held off Dalton Simonsen and 16 year old Logan Duffy until Simonsen got by on lap six. Simonsen went on to take the win, in the feature that went caution free ahead of DeFrance, Duffy, Curtis Glover and Michael Leal.

Up next was the "Class Too Tough Too Tame" IMCA Stock Cars for 18 laps. This feature was caution filled as the first caution came out before a single lap was scored when Todd Reitzler got hung up on the top side of turn two. "The Iceman" Dustin Vis took of the pole position by grabbing the top spot holding off any challenges until the caution came out on lap seven when Tyler Pickett spun in turn two. Vis got a great restart but just after the completion of lap eight, the caution came out three times before another lap was scored. The first caution on lap eight became a red flag when Jason Hall flipped on his side in turn one and Tyler Carey spun on the front stretch. On the first restart, Russell Damme Jr spun in turn two and then on the second restart attempt, Jared Daggett spun in turn two. Vis appeared to have ice water in his veins but Jeff Mueller grabbed the top spot away on lap 13 from Vis. The final caution came out on lap 14 for debris in turn four. Mueller held off eleventh place starter Damon Murty to take the win. Damon Murty finished second, Vis was third, Dallon Murty was fourth and Shawn Ritter was fifth.

Final race of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modifieds feature. Sam Wieben led the first four laps before the only race caution came out for debris in turn two. Wieben held off Kollin Hibdon and Scott Simatovich on the restart but Hibdon got by on lap nine. Hibdon led until eleventh place starter Tom Berry Jr worked his way up to take over the top spot on 16. Berry went on to take the win over Hibdon, Tim Ward, Wieben and Ethan Braaksma.

Racing started straight up at 7:30pm and the final checkered flag was displayed at 12:45am. Meaning the show, that saw Thirty-two races and three hundred-fourty eight green flag laps of racing was completed in five hours and fifteen minutes.

The Night was sponsored by Town & Country Insurance of  Stuart, Ag Hub Midwest, Fox Welding, Advance Problem Solutions, Karl Chevrolet of Stuart, D&J Septic Services Inc., Jason Cox Constructions LLC, Pitts Lawn and Tree Service and Finish Line Body & Paint. Many friends and family of Jake Durbin also threw up some many adding to the purses in all six classes.

One hundred and six cars signed in too take part of the  Jake Durbin Memorial including Twenty-Eight VIP Contractors & Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Modifieds. The Affordable Quality Roofing & Exteriors IMCA Stock Cars had 24 cars signed in. Fifteen Spangler Automotive IMCA Sport Mods, Twelve Pitt's Lawn Service and Rick's Towing IMCA Hobby Stocks, Fifteen John's Tree Service IMCA Sport Compacts and twelve Outlaw Mini Mods rounded out the card.  There was also two Outlaw Enduro Cars there to hot lap, Curtis Kline and Randy Embrey.

Before the feature action, the Hobby Stocks and Modifieds ran Pole Postion Raceway Challenges. Miciah Hidlebaugh led every lap of the Hobby Stock six lap Pole Position Challenge beating Chuck Madden, Dylan Nelson and Solomon Bennett. Todd Shute led all eight laps for the Modifieds Pole Position Challenge over Tom Berry and Ethan Braaksma.

First feature of the night was the ten lap feature for the Outlaw Mini Mods. Before a single lap was scored pole sitter Kenadi Songer looped it around in turns one and two bring out the caution. On the restart, Tanner Prehn inherited the front row and took advantage by grabbing the lead. Prehn pulled away meanwhile Humboldt's Kamdyn Haggard was running second until Chase Daniels got by him on lap six. Shortly after the caution came out when Bobby Ruehlow came to a stop on the front stretch after what appeared be a tie rod broke. Prehn got a great restart and pulled away. Prehn went on to take the win, Chase Daniels spun in turn two on the final lap and finished tenth. Tenth place starter Luke Daniels finished second, Haggard came home in third, Matt Prehn was fourth and Bobby Daniels was fifth.

Owen Richards and Hunter Patrick started on the front row of the John's Tree Service IMCA Sport Compacts 14 lap feature event. Richards wrestled the lead away from Patrick early and fend off several challenges. Richards nabbed the win in the feature that went caution free. Patrick finished second, Tyler Fiebelkorn was third, Koby Sabin was fourth and Curtis Miller was fifth.

In the Spangler Automotive IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event, it was Cam Reimers grabbing the early lead away fellow front row starter Jarrett VanDenBerg. Reimers had to fend off challenges from Brian Osantowski and Hunter Longnecker before Brayton Carter added to the mix. The caution came out on lap five when Jarrett VanDenBerg spun in turn two. Reimers and Carter began to battle before Carter took the top spot away on lap nine and led until a caution came out on lap 14. The caution was for Cody Thompson spinning in turn three after the rear end locked up, Hunter Longnecker stopped to avoid making contact. Reimers had got the top side to work just before the yellow and appeared to be the one that could challenge Carter on the restart but that was not the case as it was Osantowski challenging for the race lead. Osantowski took the top spot away from Carter on lap 18 and went on to take the win. Carter, eleventh place starter Dusty Masolini, Longnecker and Reimers rounded out the top five.

Jeremy Gettler led the first five laps of teh Affordable Quality Roofing & Exteriors IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature. Gettler fended off Buck Schafroth until Schafroth found the right lane that allowed him to take over the race lead. Schafroth began to pull away until the only race caution came out on lap 14 when Chad Legere spun in turns one and two. Schafroth held off Gettler and Mike Goldsberry on the restart and cruised on to take the win. Dallon Murty worked his way up to second on lap 18 and held off his dad Damon Murty to finished second. Damon Murty finished third, Gettler fell back to fourth and Shawn Ritter came home in fifth.

Up next was the Pitts Lawn Service and Rick's Towing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature. Riley Songer led the first two laps before a caution came out for Josh Vancannon spinning in turn two. Chuck Madden Jr got a great restart and wrestled the lead away from Songer and was followed by Dylan Nelson. Madden and Nelson battled it out with Madden holding on to the top spot. Madden then got a little separation that allowed him to go and take the feature win. Nelson finished second, Brandon Cox, Solomon Bennett and Miciah Hidlebaugh finished third through fifth respectively.

Final feature of the night was the VIP Contractors and Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Modifieds 22 lap feature event. The field did a missing man four-wide tribute to Jake Durbin. When the feature got started it was Jordy Nelson from Kansas wrestling the lead away from California's Dylan Thornton. Nelson then held off Todd Shute until the caution came out on lap six when Matthew Meinecke came to a stop in turn four. Eighth place starter Tom Berry Jr worked his way up to third and he got a fantastic restart as he got by both Nelson and Shute to take over the lead. Berry pulled away and appeared to be heading on to the easy win meanwhile Nelson climbed the wall in turn two. Kyle Brown and Cory Sauerman got together in turn one and two forcing the caution to come out on lap 13. Berry was determined to not be denied as he got a great restart and went on to continue his terror in Iowa with another feature win. Richie Gustin finished in the runner-up spot, Cayden Carter was third, Tim Ward was fourth and Shute was fifth.

Vanderbeek Reigns Supreme in the USMTS at Hamilton County Speedway

If you looked at the forecast early in the week, you will have thought there is no way the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) would get the whole five night swing during Iowa Speedweek. Saturday Night saw the USMTS get its fifth night of Iowa Speedweek in at the Hamilton County Speedway Driven by Spangler Automotive in Webster City.

Seventy-Nine cars signed in to the historic half mile including twenty-six USMTS Modifieds for the 14th Annual USMTS Webster City Wrangle presented by D&B Agro Systems. In the Summit Racing Equipment USRA Weekly Racing Series, 16 Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks, 18 Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods and 19 Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars.

First feature of the night was the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event. Tyson Overton wrestled the lead away early from fellow front row starter Bryce Sommerfeld. The first caution came out on lap three when David Reiks came to a stop in turn thrree and four. Overton held off Sommerfeld and Logan Fitzpatrick on the restart but the caution came out again on lap six for a bumper sitting up in the top side of turn two.

Overton got another great restart but once again the caution waived on lap eight when Daniel Ayers stopped in turn four. Overton held off Scott Dobel and Sommerfeld on this restart but the final race caution came out on lap ten for Fitzpatrick on the backstretch. Overton had Dobel and fifteenth place starter Eric Stanton on the back bumper on the restart. Overton working the top side and Stanton on the bottom side, Stanton grabed the top spot on lap 12. Stanton went on to take his third win in 2020 at the Hamilton County Speedway, Overton settled for second. Dobel finished third, Sommerfeld fell back to fourth and Roger Haupt was fifth.

Alex Zwanziger started outside front row in the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 16 lap feature. Zwanziger held off challenges early from Logan Anderson and Jeremiah Reed before only lap traffic slowed him down in late stages of the race. Nobody was catching, Zwanziger as he went on to take the feature win. Brandon Toftee, Anderson, Ty Griffith and Levi Chipp rounded out the top five.

Levi Chipp started on the pole position and after holding off hometown favorite Ty Griffith, Latimer pulled away and went on to take the win.  For Chipp, his second win at the Hamilton County Speedway as he picked up the feature win last saturday. Griffith started fifth and ended up second. Nate Whitehurst finished third, Brandon Toftee was fourth and Doug McCollough was fifth

In the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 20 lap feature event, Kevin Donlan grabbed the top spot early but "Terminator" Mark Elliott wrestled the top spot away from Donlan on lap three. Shortly after the caution came out when Parker Slagle came to a stop in turn four after heavy front end damage. Elliott got a great restart and pulled away from the field until the caution came out again on lap thirteen. The first caution on lap 13 was for Kevin Vogt in turn two and then on the restart Chance Hollatz came to a stop on the back stretch.

Elliott pulled away again on the restart but the caution came out on lap 15 when Jesse Brown spun in turn four. Elliott was determined to not let that bother him as he went on to lead the final five laps to take the win. Nineteenth place starter Todd Staley worked the top side came home in second. Eleventh place starter Derek Green was third, Travis Shipman was fourth and Philip Holtz was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the 35 lap feature for USMTS and their USMTS National Championship fueled by Casey's. After the intial start was called back it was Haysville, Kansas driver Tyler Davis grabbing the top spot on lap one. Just after the completion of lap one, the caution came out for Scott Olson in turn four. Davis held off Zack Vanderbeek and Jason Hughes on the restart but the caution came out on lap four when Adam Kates was slow in turn one.

Davis led until another caution was displayed on lap nine when Kates stopped in turn three. On the restart, Davis did not get a great restart after the lap nine caution, that allowed Vanderbeek to take the top spot away. Vanderbeek was hitting his marks and holding off Hughes every lap and then the final race caution came on lap twenty, when Kyle Brown had his brake rotors explode leaving debris in turn one. Vanderbeek held off Hughes on the restart and went on to lead the final 15 laps to claim the victory.

For Vanderbeek, the driver nicknamed "The Z-Man", it was his 49th career USMTS win putting him fifth all-time with wins. Hughes finished second, Davis was third and USMTS Points Leader Rodney Sanders was fourth. Eighteenth place starter Terry Phillips finished fifth, giving the FK Rod Ends Hard Charger.

Fantastic Racing Filled Flag Day and Manatt's Night at Brooklyn Raceway

It felt nice to have options on a Friday Night again as I had the choice to go to Marshalltown Speedway, 5 minutes from the house if having to stop at the stop lights, or make the 50 mile drive to the Brooklyn Raceway. After thinking about it all week, I decide to make my second trip down to the Brooklyn Raceway for Manatt's Night at the Races and Flag Day Race Night.

Despite all the mid week rain, Don Wauters and the track crew had the race track in great shape. The track did have a little character as it was rough in a few spots but it still produced exciting racing action all night. One hundred-three cars signed in for Race Night number two at the Figure Eight Capital of The World. The first green flag was at 7:15pm and the final checkered flag was displayed at 11:22pm.

Micro Sprints twenty lap feature was up first and it was a familiar face leading from start to finish. Three-time track champion Travis Rewerts jumped out to the race lead and never looked back going on to take the win for the second time this season at Brooklyn Raceway. Tyler Lee finished second, Joe Dent ran second most of the way before falling back to third, Morgan Dennis was fourth and Dakota Young was fifth.

Junior Front Wheel Drive feature was up next and it was Dayton Filloon grabbing the top spot on lap one but just after completing  lap one the caution came when Filloon came to a stop on the back stretch. That gave the lead over to Dylan Zuck and he led until just after completing lap three when he experienced issues coming to a stop in turn two. Addalyn Stevens inherited the lead after Zuck experienced issues and Stevens held off challenges from Addasyn Spain too take the win in her first night out. Spain finished second, Zuck was third,  Austin was fourth and Filloon fifth.

Before a single lap was scored in the ten lap Trucks Figure 8 feature event, the caution came out twice. First caution was for Jerry Moffitt spinning in turn two.  On the initial restart, the caution came out for Deal Keasling and Moffitt in turn three. Tim McKee grabbed the early lead and held several challenges from Mark Ruggles but the caution was displayed again on lap six when Moffitt came to a stop in turn two after a small fire in the front end. Tim McKee was not to be denied as he held of Ruggles and Isaac McKee to take the victory. Ruggles, Michelle Keasling, Isaac McKee and Moffitt round out the top five.

Travis Fenton led from start to finish in the 12 lap Hobby Stocks feature event, that went caution free. Fenton held off several challenges from Jacob Lehman to take the victory. Lehman finished second, Brandan Long ran third the entire way. Leroy Kline worked his way from eighth to finish fourth and Garrett Croy was fifth.

In the Front Wheel Drive 12 lap feature event, the caution was displayed only one time and that came out before a single lap was scored when Tyler Haring came to a stop in turn two. On the restart, Matt Pool grabbed the top spot and held off the Ethan Wauters and Mark Smith to take the feature win. Ethan Wauters, one of the two drivers to win on opening night finished second. Smith, Tony Audas and Ethan Thompson  finished third through fifth.

Mark Schuring and Jerret Utterback grabbed the lead early in the Cruisers 12 lap feature event. Schruing / Utterback looked to be the car to beat until the team of Brady Ringler and Lane LaRue caught seventy-seven car. Ringler / LaRue made slight contact with Schuring / Utterback, which allowed them to take the lead over. Ringler / LaRue led until lap 11 when Lavern Lehman and Jacob Lehman took the top spot away. Lehman / Lehman went on to take the win. Ringleb / LaRue finished second, Corey Vanderwilt / Brett Maasdam was third, Wyatt Clabaugh / Chad Clabaugh was fourth and Danielle Kline / Bruce Kline was fifth.

Jim Vonglan grabbed the early lead of the twelve lap Stock Figure 8 Feature event. The caution was displayed just after one lap was scored in the books when Tom Schons and Marvin Housley got together in turn one. Vonglan held off challenges on the restart from Josh Vandermolen and Jerome Kline. Josh Vandermolen and Kline got together on lap four allowing Vonglan to get a little sepearation. Vonglan went on to take the win ahead of Lance Baker, Mike Vandermolen, Dan Arnett and Ashton Hartwig.

Open Figure 8 class saw Jerrod Thompson take the early race lead but having to hold off Rick Roush and Matt Hofbauer challenges. Thompson and the field saw the caution come out on lap five when Ted Armstrong spun in turn three. Thompson held off Hofbauer and John Watts on the restart and went on to lead the rest of the way in the 12 lap feature event. Finishing behind Thompson was Hofbauer, Watts, Roush and Duane Zander

Final Feature of the night was twelve lap Pro-Stock Figure 8 feature. Brad Graham led the opening laps after fending off challenges from Kyle Richardson. The caution came out on lap five for Butch Lester after his car overheated and blew up. Brad Graham held of Richardson and Bradly Graham on the restart but the caution again was displayed on lap eight for Cade Groeneveld coming to stop in turn four. Brad Graham held on to take the feature win, Bradly Graham came across the line in second. Cameron Eichhorn was third, Aaron Roudabush was fourth and Jeff Orgell was fifth.

Tentatively the next race at the Brooklyn Raceway is set to return to action on Friday June 26th, initial earlier in the week it was announced for Saturday June 27th but Warren County Speedway in Indianola is racing that night so Promoter Don Wauters decided to change the date. Hot Laps at 6:30pm and Racing at 7:15pm.

Other Race Dates coming up at Brooklyn Raceway are July 3rd (Friday), July 25th (Saturday), August 7th (Friday), August 22 (Saturday) and September 6 (Sunday). Fall Nationals are scheduled for September 18 (Friday) and September 19 (Saturday).

For more information call Promoter Don Wauters at 515-577-7722 or check out the BrooklynRaceway.org or  Brooklyn Raceway Facebook Page for any updated information.

Thanks to Don and Shelley Wauters for inviting me and the hospitality I received last night. I enjoy coming down its fun and you guys make me feel special for covering the Brooklyn Raceway.

I took 500+ pictures and they are posted on the Trackside Report Facebook Page and you find the direct link to the photo album at Brooklyn Manatt's / Flag Day 6-12-20. If you share the pictures please give me credit because I do this for the love of this sport and not to make money, however if you want to give me some I wouldn't complain.

As I was in Brooklyn, I learned from some buddies the Marshalltown Speedway lost power in turns three and four after the Mod Lites feature on RBF Electric Night and was unable to get it fixed, despite Mike O'Lear and Jeremiah Andrews attempt to resolve the issue. It will be double features in the Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Stock Cars, Modifieds and Late Models plus the Mod Lites. Make-Up features will be ran first than followed by a complete new show.

Aikey Takes The SLMR Thursday Night Thunder Win in Webster City

Intial my schedule at the beginning of the season had me attending the Malvern Bank SLMR Series race at the Hamilton County Speedway but with the whole COVID-19 pandemic cancelling the early season visit it mean having to wait until June. The Super Late Models Racing Series was also suppose to make two visits last year but got rained out.

On Thursday Night, the wait for fans and drivers was over as the Malvern Bank SLMR "West" Series and the Newly Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR "East" Series took to the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive for some Thursday Night Thunder action. The racing surface was smooth and wide but at times did not seem like that forcing track crew to go out and rip it up before the A Features.

Sixty-Two cars signed in to race on the historic half mile at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds including Thirty-Five SLMR Late Models. Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods had ten entries, Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks had fourteen and the My Race Pass USRA Tuners had three cars. Jeff Aikey took the SLMR win meanwile Levi Chipp, Eric Stanton and Matt Oberhelman all took Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series feature wins.

Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 15 lap feature was first up.

In the My Race Pass USRA Tuners 10 lap feature, Fort Dodge's Matt Oberhelman wrestled the early race lead from Marshalltown's John Gill. Oberhelman held off any challenge Gill had and took his first win at the Hamilton County Speedway this season. Gill finished second and Justin Nielson of Luverne finished third.

After Time Trials, four heats, two consolation races and provisionals all determined for the Malvern Bank and Haulin' with Hoker Trucking SLMR Late Model Series 35 lap feature event. Omaha, Nebraska drivers Jake Neal and Ben Schaller led the field to the green. Neal edged out the  seven-time champion and winningest IMCA Summer Series driver, Jeff Aikey by a nose at the line on lap one. Stuart's feature winner Tad Pospisil from Norfolk, Nebraska ran third early by Schaller and Lavista, Nebraska drive Bill Leighton. Aikey took the top spot away on lap two and powered away from the field. On lap four, the caution came out when Kale Kosiski came to a stop.

On the restart, the red flag was displayed when there was a pile-up in turn four involving seven-time SLMR Series Champion Kyle Berck, Sherrill's Jeff Tharp, Newton's Curt Schroeder and Dylan Schmer from Aurora, Nebraska. After getting Tharp and Berck untagled, Berck headed to the pit to get work from his crew meanwhile Tharp was towed back to the pits. The caution came out again on the restart when Neal had his throttle get stuck wide open forcing him to pound the turn 1 wall. Neal climbed from the car, a little sore but okay meanwhile the 8 Ball car was taken to the pits.

Aikey again powered away on the restart and he did it again on after the caution on lap thirteen. Leighton and Pospisil traded some side romance allowing Aikey to pull away on the lap 13. Aikey looked to be heading on to take the win when a caution came out on lap 22 for Zach Zeitner spun and back into the wall in turn four.  Aike continued to be the captain of the ship as he pulled away but the caution came out on lap 29 forcing a green-white-checkered finish. After the initial restart also having a caution when Schmer, Brad Perdue and Brian Kosiski getting together in turn two.

Aikey was not faxed as he went on to take the $3,000 and the feature win for Car Owner Rick Dralle. 2017 SLMR series Champ Tad Pospisil got by Bill Leight from the runner-up honors. Gibbon, Nebraska driver Josh Leonard finished fourth, Oxford's Andy Eckrich was fifth. Cory Dumpert, Corey Zeitner, Ben Schaller, Justin Kay and "Hollywood" Jason Hahne finished sixth through tenth respectively. Kyle Berck set fast time in time trials, manage to finish twelfth after having to start towards the back. "Ironman" Darrel DeFrance was hard charger in the feature event, moving up twelve spots from twenty-sixth to finish fourteenth.

Final feature of the night was the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature. Corey Roe led the first five laps before Eric Stanton took the top spot away on lap six. The only caution came out on lap eight for John Ades and Jake Blau getting together in turn two. Stanton was not fazed as he went on to take the second win in Webster City. Roe finished second by holding off challenges from Eric Knutson late. Knutson settled for third, fourteenth place starter Jeremy Crimmins was fourth and Scott Dobel finished fifth.

Racing action came to and end at 10:26 pm putting into another fantastic night at the historic half mile.
