The Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway has been postponed due to inclement weather conditions that left the pit area unsuitable for use. Speedway officials made every effort to prepare the facility and keep the program on schedule; however an Unlikely Pair - Mother Nature and a Turtle - had other plans. As a result, Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway officials have rescheduled the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel to Wednesday, April 29th.

Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel now has to wait, but IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, and IMCA Sport Mods all have $1,000 to win, IMCA Hobby Stocks $500 to win, and IMCA Sport Compacts $250 to win. Outlaw Mini Mods and Crown Vics will be on the card, now on April 29th. Fans and participants are encouraged to monitor official communications for any further updates and to plan accordingly for the revised event date.

The next race at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway is this Sunday, April 19th, when the Malvern Bank ASCS Midwest Region presented by Hoosier 360 Sprints and Mohrfeld Electric Sprint Invaders begin their season with a $2,000 to win co-sanctioned event. Also competing are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts. Grandstands are $20 for adults, kids (11-17) are $10, and children (10 & under) are FREE. Pits are $35 for ages 14+, children (6-13) $20, and 5 & under FREE. Gates open at 3p, hot laps at 5:30p, and racing to follow.

For more information about the Stuart Speedway check out the StuartSpeedway.net or check out the Stuart Speedway Facebook Page or call Mike Van Genderen at (515) 521-0330.

Also, don't forget to check out the other racetracks Mike Van Genderen promotes or is the track manager for. Highway 39 Speedway in Denison, Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway, and Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri.

Promoter Mike Van Genderen has announced several schedule updates across his slate of events this week. Most notably, the “Revving It Up” program at Hwy 39 Speedway in Denison, originally set for Friday, April 17, has been canceled due to forecasted thunderstorms in the area.

Attention now shifts to Saturday’s Wyffels Hybrid Season Opener at Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, which remains on schedule at this time. The event will feature a full racing program, including Pro Late Models ($1,000 to win), IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars ($750 to win each), IMCA Sport Mods ($450 to win), IMCA Hobby Stocks ($350 to win), along with IMCA Sport Compacts and Crown Vics ($250 to win). Hot laps are set for 6:00 p.m., with racing to follow. In the event of a weather-related postponement, officials have outlined a contingency plan to move the program to Tuesday, April 21, as the Wyffels Hybrid Super Tuesday, with all classes competing except the Pro Late Models.

Looking ahead, World of Outlaws Late Model Series presented by DirtVision will headline the Independence Late Model Showdown at Independence Motor Speedway on Tuesday, April 28. Presented by Scott Webb Concrete, the marquee event will offer a $12,000 top prize. The program will also feature support divisions including the Karl Chevrolet Pro Late Model Tour, IMCA Modifieds, and IMCA Stock Cars, rounding out a highly anticipated night of competition.

The spotlight will also turn to Scotland County Speedway in Memphis as the facility roars back to life for a major two-night event. The United States Modified Touring Series presented by RacinDirt will headline the 12th Annual Mid-America Nationals alongside the inaugural Jon Fuller Memorial Race on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25. Each night will feature a $5,000-to-win main event for the USMTS competitors, drawing top Modified talent from across the region.

A strong supporting lineup is set to complement the weekend program, including the USRA Iron Man Stock Car Series presented by Terminator Chassis, the USRA Iron Man B-Mod Series presented by Harris Auto Racing, and USRA Hobby Stocks competing both nights. The combination of premier touring Modifieds and competitive support divisions is expected to deliver an action-packed weekend for fans and teams alike.

Fans planning to attend should note the weekend schedule, with Friday’s program featuring pit gates opening at 3:00 p.m., grandstands at 5:00 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 p.m., and racing at 7:15 p.m. Saturday’s schedule begins earlier, with pits opening at 2:00 p.m., grandstands at 4:00 p.m., hot laps at 5:30 p.m., and racing at 6:15 p.m. For additional event details and updates, fans are encouraged to follow the official USMTS and Scotland County Speedway social media channels or visit the series website. Reminder the USMTS has a new website at USMTS-Racing.com.

Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway's next scheduled event is on Friday, May 22nd, with the Spilman Auto Parts SLMR Late Model Special featuring the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series. IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, and IMCA Hobby Stocks also race that night. Keep your eyes peeled on the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway Facebook page.

The cancellation of Stuart Speedway came just as I was about ready to roll out and head that way; so far my luck this year and racing are like my Chicago Cubs playing baseball. The next scheduled race for me is on Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway; as for this weekend, I'm not sure yet. I guess we will see what Mother Nature allows.

After missing out on the Memphis Spring Nationals at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri, a few weeks ago, I was determined to get racing in during the Frostbuster week, but Mother Nature had other plans. Then came this Wednesday night; I decided around noon that I would officially make the hour-and-a-half trip one way to take in the racing action at the Stuart Speedway.

The Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway was kicking off their 65th season of racing at the quarter-mile bullring located on the northwest corner of Stuart. Track opened in 1962 by Gail Miller and was featured in the movie Fever Heat that released in May of 1968. It has seen many different owners over the 65 years, but racing has always continued.

A total of one hundred and twenty-six cars signed in on Wednesday night, including six Crown Vics making their debut. The racing action was exciting and intense all night; the surface even left the drivers guessing what it was going to do.

Mike Van Genderen and the crew did an amazing job with the racing surface despite the moisture deciding to come up.  Belinda Davis was fantastic on getting everybody parked, Jeff Kropf looked good on the sticks, and Tony Paris did a nice job on the microphone all night. There were even some thrills and spills on the night; the first racing green flag waved around 7:15p, and the final checkered flag came out at 10:19p. Meaning I was back home around 12:15a.

The first feature of the night saw the debut of the Southern Hills Spill Response Crown Vics for their 12-lap feature event. Tate Haffner led the first lap before Marty Pelzer took the lead away. The only race caution came out on lap six when Haffner spun in turn two. Pelzer held off challenges from Justin Bissell and Andrew Mills throughout the race before going on and capturing the first-ever Crown Vics feature. Bissell came home second, Nick Sawdy from Fort Dodge was third, Greg Dollens took fourth, and Mills was fifth.

In the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Northern Sport Mods 20-lap feature event, Mike Smith from Lake City showed his strength after fending off Devyn Peterson and Cam Reimers; he pulled away to a big lead. Smith's lead faded away as he encountered the heavy lap traffic, as Jake Sachau grabbed the second spot and began to reel down Smith. Sachau got right up to Smith just as the only race caution was a red flag; it came out on lap 14 when Jeremiah Reed rolled exiting turn two, battling with Gage Hilgenberg. Smith now had to deal with Sachau and eleventh-place starter Dylan VanWyk on the restart. Smith was determined to not be denied the feature win but had to fend off VanWyk for it. VanWyk captured second; Colton Livezey, third; Sachau fell to fourth; and Peterson, fifth.

Damon Murty, known as the Chelsea Charger, jumped out to the early lead in the Diversified Towing & Recovery IMCA Stock Cars 20-lap feature event. However, that lead would be short-lived, as just before completing lap three, Murty caught the right rear on the racing surface, sending him for a tumble in turn four, resulting in the red flag coming out. That handed the lead over to "Wahoo" Mike Albertsen. Albertsen fends off Rowdee Van Genderen and Brad Derry on the restart. Van Genderen refused to go away and made several attempts to get by Albertsen but came up short as Wahoo went on to take the feature win. Van Genderen, thirteenth-place starter Buck Schafroth, Thor Anderson, and Larry Robinson Jr. rounded out the top five.

Next up was the Rick's Towing & Transport IMCA Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature event. Braden Gifford and Briar Kriegel led the field to the green; Kreigel would snatch the race lead early. Shortly after the leaders completed lap two, the red flag came out when Seth Butler's car caught the racing surface, sending him for a wild roll in turn one. Butler claimed from the car that he was okay, but the car was heavily damaged. Gifford took the race lead away from Kreigel on the restart and led the way until lap ten when he cut a right rear tire. Joey Young took over the race lead and hung on to capture his first-ever IMCA-sanctioned win. Tom Killen Jr. finished second, Stanton was third, Kreigel fell back to fourth, and nineteenth-place starter Eric Knutson took fifth.

In the Giza Ag Service Outlaw Mini Mods feature event, the question would be, could anybody beat the Daniels boys? The answer is no, as Chase Daniels led all but the lap that pays the most, the last one, as Lucas Daniels captured the win on the last lap pass. Chase finished second, Cameron Burkman captured third, Hayden Glover was in fourth, and Braxton James was in fifth.

Beatrice, Nebraska's Johnny Thomas outwrestled Tyler Fiebelkorn and Michael Gardner for the race lead in the early moments of the Hawkeye Auto IMCA Sport Compacts 14-lap feature event. The only caution came out when the ambulance had to go over to the concession stand for a situation; racing was able to continue since the ambulance was on the grounds. Thomas again held off Fiebelkorn and Gardner and went on to capture the feature win. Fiebelkorn settled for second; Gardner exited with a flat tire, pushing him to fourteenth. Gilbert Aldape captured third, Corbin Funke was fourth, and Daniel Clayton was in fifth.

The final feature of the night was the Diversified Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature event. Jeremy Mills outdueled Trevor Fitz for the race lead and looked to be the guy to beat. Todd Shute took second away from Fitz and tried to get by Mills but was unable to. Meanwhile, Tom Berry Jr. worked his way from eighth to second on lap six and set his sights on the race lead. Berry took the race lead away from Mills and pulled away to take the feature win. Mills finished second; Shute, Owen Barnhill, and Fitz rounded out the top five.

Next week, Wednesday, April 15th, at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Speedway is the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel. IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts take to the quarter mile, plus the Outlaw Mini Mods and Crown Vics. Gates open at 5p, hot laps at 6:45p, racing to follow. Grandstands are $15 for ages 17 & up, kids (11-16) $5, and 10 & under free. Pit Pass is $35 for ages 14 & up, kids (6-13) $20, and 5 & under free.

Then on Sunday, April 19th, the ASCS Midwest Region 360 Sprints take on the Sprint Invaders 360 Sprints with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Outlaw Mini Mods. Gates open at 3p, hot laps at 5:30p, racing to follow.

Marshalltown Speedway Wrapped Track Championships and Turns Focus to Special Events

Friday Night at America's Bucket List Track was supposed to be the Historic North 3rd Avenue Dairy Queen Larry & Barb Wollam Memorial Season Championships; however, Mother Nature had other plans as rain rolled in and the lightning in the area forced speedway officials to cancel the races. The final night of track points in Motown is in honor of a great man, Larry Wollam, who raced, owned race cars, and was a promoter at the Speedway before he passed away on August 30th, 1999; this year was to mark the first year honoring his lovely wife, Barb, who passed away on Mother's Day (May 11th), 2025. Unfortunately the races were cancelled, meaning it put a bow on the track championships at Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway.

Larry's view of life still rings true today; some need a reminder of those wise words. I never got to meet Larry in person, but I know his family and the race team live by those words every day.

THE LARRY WOLLAM VIEW OF LIFE

If you think you're beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win, but think you can't, It's almost a cinch that you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost. For out in the world we find - Success begins with a fellow's will, It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are, You've got to think high to rise. You've got to be sure of yourself, Before you can win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go, To the strongest or fastest man. But sooner or later the person who wins, Is the person who thinks he can.

Back to talk about the track points wrapping up, Motown track champions: Kollin Hibdon (Modifieds), Jimmy Gustin (Stock Cars), Brayton Carter (SportMods), Kolby Sabin (Hobby Stocks), Bryan Zehm (Mod Lites), and Spencer Roggentien (Sport Compacts).

In the IMCA Modifieds, there were 8 different feature winners during the ten track point nights completed, with only Kollin Hibdon and Tom Berry Jr. taking two. Other feature winners were Todd Shute, Logan Anderson, Tripp Gaylord, Cayden Carter, Cody Laney, and Ethan Braaksma. Hibdon captured the 2025 track championship by 36 points over Shute.
