Friday night there was no rain in the forecast; however, one cell popped up right over the Karl Auto Group of Marshalltown Speedway, and it rained hard for about 15 minutes, enough to leave the track with puddles. That forced speedway officials to end the night with 7 heats remaining; the entire show has been cancelled, and a fresh start is planned. On Saturday night, I did not go to the races, as I attended the Sammy Kershaw concert at the Central Iowa Fair with Iowa's Sierra Griggs as the opening act.

After a lengthy decision on Sunday, I decided to make another trip to the Sports Park Raceway presented by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota in Fort Dodge, just to get some racing in over the weekend. The decision to go to Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge is so easy when I am appreciated by the track promoter Jeff Frevert, operations manager Sarah Stewart, and the rest of the amazing team. Hanging out with my friend Danielle Ayers in the infield during hot laps and heat races is always fun. I may take some pictures, but if you want better pictures, check out Danielle Ayers Photography for even better ones. Again thank you for always making me feel welcomed when I can make the trip up and over from Marshalltown.

Eighty-four cars signed in to tame the 4/10-mile dirt oval on Sunday night, including 13 for the White Transfer & Storage Sport Mod Special and 15 for the rescheduled United Plant Services Modified Special featuring the Western Iowa Area Modified Series. The racing action was as hot and heavy as it was feeling in the air. The track was the best I had seen all year, as they would go two, three and four wide with no less than two strong racing lanes all night long. The final chequered flag waved at 8:47pm.

The first feature of the night was the Matt's Tire Service IMCA Hobby Stocks 10-lap feature event. Charles Prime grabbed an early lead from the outside second row, and Tyler Fiebelkorn and Chase Roath followed Prime to the front. Prime held them off, but just as lap two was being scored, Roath spun at the end of the front stretch entering turn one and hit the wall. Roath climbed from the car, but his race was done. Prime remained strong out front as the battle for second and back heated up between Fiebelkorn, Rece Hayes, Michael Gardner, Brooke Osler and Carson Hayes. Prime went on to capture the feature win. Fiebelkorn finished second, Osler took third, Carson Hayes finished fourth in his car nicknamed 'Frankstein', and points leader Rece Hayes finished fifth.

Nick Hogan led the first lap of the Culver's of Carroll and Fort Dodge 4.6L Crown Vics 10-lap feature before a caution came out for debris in Turn 2. On the restart, Birthday Boy Nate Hogan took the top spot away, but Nick Hogan refused to go away and regained it on lap three when Nate Hogan broke and went off the top of turns three and four, bringing out another caution. Nick Hogan held off Nick Sawdy on the restart before pulling away to capture win number two, this time by a full straightaway. Sawdy took second, BJ Charlson was third, Jim Hogan came home in fourth, and TJ Fickbohm was fifth.

In the Pickett Salvage Vintage Cars 10-lap feature event, Todd Jansonius outwrestled the McClendons, Josh and Brent, to grab the race lead. Brent McClendon ran second with Josh McClendon running third until the only caution came out on lap five for Cameron Kennedy spinning in turn four. Todd Jansonius held everyone off on the restart and went on to his second win of the season. Brent McClendon, Rex Jansonius, Josh McClendon, and Chad Larson rounded out the top five.

Jade Lange was the man to beat in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature. Lange jumped out to the race lead but received several challenges from Brayson Siegle in the early going. Siegle took the top spot away exiting turn two on lap four but then took a sharp right off the top of turns three and four. Lange got a great restart and went on to capture the first win of the season at Sports Park. The battles throughout the rest of the field heated up, and in the end, Macon Robinson, Bryce Sommerfeld, Will Smith, and Roger Haupt rounded out the top five.

Brandon Toftee led the opening lap of the Marsh Concrete IMCA Stock Cars 15-lap feature event. "Wide Open" Scott Olson took the race lead away from Toftee on lap two, forcing Toftee to figure out how to get the lead back. Olson pulled away and cruised to the feature win. Toftee finished second, Ryan Roath came home third, Tyler Pickett was fourth, and Parker Slagle was fifth.

The initial start of the White Transfer & Storage IMCA Sport Mods 15-lap feature was called back. When the race finally got rolling, it was Matt Grall grabbing the race lead. The caution came out on lap two when Rocky Caudle spun in turn two in Preston Bright's hot rod after Caudle broke the motor in his car. On the restart, Good Thunder, Minnesota's Mat Hollerich, took the race lead away, but that was short-lived as Cam Reimers worked his way from eighth to the race lead on lap five. Reimers pulled away and built up a race lead of over a full straightaway until the caution came out on lap 14 for Brian Frederick, who got crossed up while being lapped and spun Grall in turn four. Grall was giving his spot back, and the lap car was penalized for the yellow. Reimers held on to the lead through the green-white-checkered restart to claim the $1,000 win. Hollerich finished second, Kamdyn Haggard was third, Grall took fourth, and Hunter Longnecker was fifth.

The final race of the night was the United Plant Services IMCA Modifieds for the rescheduled Western Iowa Area Modified Series 25-lap feature event. Trey Kline jumped out to the race lead, but Trevor Fitz flanked him. Kline continued to lead until lap 18, when Fitz was able to grab the top spot away. Fitz then looked to be heading on to take the feature win, but a caution came out just as lap 24 was being scored when David Brown spun at the top of turn three to avoid Robert Moore slowing in front of him. Fitz held off Kline and Jeff Stephens to go on and take the $1,500 feature win. Stephens took second away from Kline. Chaz Baca and Jacob Snyder finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

No racing next week at Sports Park Raceway. Racing action returns on Sunday, July 26th, with the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks $1,000-to-win special. IMCA Mod Lites make their third appearance of the season. Also racing will be IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Sport Compacts, 4.6L Crown Vics, and Vintage Cars. Pits open at 3p, grandstands open at 4p, hot laps at 5p, and racing to follow.

Then the following week, Sunday, August 2nd, is Kid's Night sponsored by Kemna Auto of Fort Dodge with a bike giveaway. August 9th is Hicklin Powersports Night with Mod Lites also competing, Animal Control Night on August 16th and Baker Group Season Championship Night plus IMCA Mod Lites, powder puff and mechanics' races.

What has become one of Iowa's continuously running memorial races is the Ron Little Memorial in honor of a guy known as "The Gentle Giant," who passed away on May 9th, 1999. This marked the 27th annual event at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart International Speedway and also was the finale night of the Steve Neville Trucking Midwest Madness Tour.

It was supposed to be the fifth and final night, but the tour was unable to get four nights in at Worthington, Spencer, Park Jefferson, and Stuart. Buena Vista Raceway in Alta rained out. One hundred and twenty-eight cars signed in to see if they could put their names in the history books.

Mike Van Genderen and the track crew produced a fantastic racing surface that created exciting racing action all night. Jeff Kropf did amazingly up on the flag stand; Tony Paris and PJ Pedersen did an amazing job announcing. I guess that Jamie Songer guy did good with the victory lane and champion interviews. The final checkered flag waved at 10:18 pm, meaning by the time I got out of there and fought on-and-off heavy downpours on the way home, I pulled into my driveway at 12:05 am.

The first feature of the night was the Hawkeye Auto IMCA Sport Compacts 15-lap event presented by Culver's of Carroll and Fort Dodge. Beatrice, Nebraska racer Johnny Thomas and Des Moines' Michael Gardner led the field to the green flag. Thomas jumped out to the race lead right away and was followed by Stuart's Tyler Fiebelkorn. Corbin Funke worked his way from tenth to second by lap five. Thomas looked strong and led all 15 caution-free laps to take win number two of the year in Stuart. Funke made several attempts to get past Thomas but came up short and hung on to finish second. Fiebelkorn was third, Gardner fell back to fourth and Daniel Clayton was fifth. Tyler Thompson finished tenth, but that was just enough to win the Midwest Madness Tour Champion Crown by 4 points over Fiebelkorn.

Matt Avila jumped out to the early race lead in the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart IMCA Northern Sport Mods 22-lap feature presented by Spices Galore! Tommy Tanner ran second in the early going. The first caution came out on lap two when BJ Charlson and Preston Bright spun in turn four. Avila fended off Tanner and Martin Bennett on the restart. The caution came out two more times, both on lap six: first for Mitchell Morris in the turn two wall after contact from David Schwartz and then on the restart when Brett Vanderheiden, Matt Morrow, Josalyn Elmquist, Joe Feyen, Austin Hardisty, and Mike Dullard got together on the front stretch. Avila lost the lead briefly on lap eight when Bennett was able to take it away, but that was short-lived as Avila got back by and cruised on to take win number two in Stuart. Eleventh-place starter Caleb Woodard, Willy Kirk, Cam Reimers, and Bennett rounded out the top five. Kirk was named the 2026 Midwest Madness Tour Champion by beating Reimers by 7 points.

The Class Too Tough To Tame Diversified Towing & Recovery IMCA Stock Cars for their 25-lap feature event presented by B&B Chassis. Sioux City's Greg Peck started fourth, but by the end of lap one, he had gotten by front-row starters Chris Pruitt and Ryan Grochow to lead the race. Shortly after the caution came out for debris in turn two. Peck held the top spot until "Buck Wild" Buck Schafroth worked his way from eighth to second; Schafroth took the lead away on lap 11. The caution came out on lap 15 for Dillon Solum, and then the final caution came out on lap 16 for Mike Hansen spinning in turn four along with debris. Schafroth led the final nine laps and went on to capture win number three. Damon Murty got within a car length but couldn't get by Buck, so he managed to finish second. Peck finished third, and that allowed him to capture the Midwest Madness Tour Champion crown by 6 points. Todd VanEaton finished fourth and was the Midwest Madness Tour runner-up. Mike Albertsen was fifth.

Before a single lap was completed in the Rick's Towing & Transport IMCA Hobby Stocks 20-lap feature event presented by Road Rage Bike Works, there was a caution. It came out when Nathan Ashe was spinning on the front stretch. When the race got going, it was Sioux Rapids' Korbin White grabbing the race lead, but he was flanked by Kael Koch from Marshalltown. Koch managed to capture the race lead on lap seven and looked as if he were going to get the win, but thirteenth-place starter Tom Killen Jr. had other plans as he worked his way through the field. Killen began to challenge Koch and would manage to take the lead over on lap 15. Killen held on to capture win number two. Koch finished second, Kaylb Brunssen was third, Dylan Nelson was fourth, and White was fifth. Brunssen took the Midwest Madness Tour Crown.

The final feature of the night was the Diversified Sales & Service IMCA Modifieds 25-lap event presented by DCS Underground of Hays, Kansas. Todd Shute outwrestled Owen Barnhill for the race lead at the drop of the green. Hays, Kansas, and defending Midwest Madness Tour Champion Dakota Sproul worked his way into second. Shute looked strong and pulled away, but when lap traffic began to get heavy, Drew Janssen and Sproul reeled in Shute. Janssen was able to capture the top spot on lap 22 and lead the remaining laps to capture the feature win. Sproul came home second, allowing him to capture the Midwest Madness Tour crown. Shute, Chaz Baca Jr., and Izac Mallicoat rounded out the top five.

Next race at the Karl Chevrolet of Stuart International Speedway is Wednesday, July 29th. All weekly classes: IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Compacts, Crown Vics, and Outlaw Mini Mods are on the card. When the season started, I was not sure how many times I would go racing on Sundays, much less how many times I would be road tripping to Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge. Three of four nights scheduled have been completed, and one night got rained out after a few races. I made the trip to Sports Park Raceway on all three nights that were completed. Also, when I checked MyRacePass after the races to see how I did with my fantasy picks, what would you know? For the second time this week, I was first in fantasy picks. This week, I made the tentative decision on Thursday that I would go back for racing action in large part because of being welcomed and appreciated by track promoter Jeff Frevert and operation manager Sarah Stewart when I am able to be there.

The car count may have been down on Sunday night for the Marsh Concrete Stock Car Special, but the racing action was still exciting and intense all night long. Kudos to Brandon Toftee, Frevert and the rest of the track crews for producing a great surface, but I am sure they will wonder what they could do differently to make it even better. Hot laps were at 5pm, racing followed, and the final checkered flag waved at 8:12pm. At total of sixty cars signed in to tame Sport Park Raceway presented by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota.

Simple: if you have been on the fence about making the trip on a Sunday night to race at Sports Park Raceway, I say load that car up and get there. You will be amazing, and if you are concerned about when they will get over it, well, Jeff, Sarah and Brandon all take pride in getting the show done at a decent time.

The first feature of the night was the Matt's Tire Service IMCA Sport Compacts 10-lap feature event. Chris Wilson and Carson Hayes led the field to the green flag, but neither one of them led a lap as Rece Hayes blew by both on the opening lap. Rece Hayes went to the race lead and never looked back, going on to take win number two at Sport Park Raceway. Brother Carson Hayes finished second after fending off several challenges from Chase Roath, who finished third. Brooke Osler took fourth, and Charles Prime was fifth.

In the Culver's of Fort Dodge and Carroll 4.6L Crown Vics 10-lap feature event, Nick Hogan outwrestled Nick Sawdy for the early lead and fended off some challenges from Nate Hogan. Nick Hogan led all ten caution-free laps to be the third different winner this season at Sport Park. Nick Hogan came home second. Jacob Everts battled with Greg Dollens; Everts took third and Dollens fourth. Fifth place went to Jim Hogan.

Cameron Kennedy led the first six laps of the Pickett Salvage Vintage Cars 10-lap feature event. Kennedy was riding the top side; meanwhile, Rex Jansonius worked the bottom side. Jansonius took the lead on lap eight, but then he and Kennedy slipped up, leaving the opportunity for Brent McClendon to get by. Brent McClendon held on to capture win number one. Jansonius was second, Josh McClendon was third, and Kennedy fell back to fourth.

Before a lap was scored in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15-lap feature, the caution came out when Seth Butler, Wade Gilliland, and Macon Robinson got together on the front stretch. After the field got restacked and got started, it was Ethan Dirks jumping out to the race's lead. Jade Lange followed Dirks to capture second place. The race saw two more cautions, one on lap six when Braden Gifford went off the front stretch with a flat tire and then on lap 11 when Drew Barglof and Max Pogeler spun in turn four, collecting Gilliland. Dirks remained tough and went on to capture the win, becoming the third different winner this season. Lange, twelfth-place starter Jeff Fink, fourteenth-place starter Macon Robinson, and thirteenth-place starter Brian Ashburn rounded out the top five.

Kamdyn Haggard had no issues leaving off where he finished two weeks ago at Sports Park Raceway as he jumped out to the lead early in the White Transfer & Storage IMCA Sport Mods 15-lap feature. Haggard checked out and cruised to win number two of the season. Yes, I can officially confirm Kam and his dad Dustin were both smiling after going back to back. Dustin West took second, Rocky Caudle took third, Matt Grall was fourth, and George Gilliland was fifth.

Andy Tiernan jumped out to the race lead in the United Plant Service IMCA Modifieds 15-lap feature event, fending off Chase Weimer and Jason Bass. Chaz Baca worked his way into second and set his sights on chasing down Tiernan and took the top spot away on lap seven. Baca pulled away and went on to take win number three at Sport Park. Bass, Tiernan, Weimer, and Ted Gould rounded out the finish.

The final feature of the night was the featured event, the Marsh Concrete IMCA Stock Cars B&B Chassis All-Star Invitational Qualifier for 20 laps. It was "The General" Troy Jerovetz jumping out to the race lead. Jerovetz fended off challenges from Ryan Roath and Cody Frerichs early. The first race caution came out when Frerichs lost power and came to a stop at the top of turns three and four. Jerovetz held off Roath and Hunter Smith on the restart and looked like he was determined to take the win, but one more caution came out on lap nine when Calvin Lange slid off the top of turn one. Smith got a great restart and got by Jerovetz on the restart and cruised away. Smith became the third different winner and pocketed $1,000 in the effort. Jerovetz hung on to finish second; Jarid Ratzke was third; Kyle Rose was fourth; and Tyler Pickett got as high as third before falling back to fifth.

Racing action is back again next week at the Sports Park Raceway presented by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln and features the Culver's of Fort Dodge & Carroll 4.6L Crown Vics Special, paying $1,000 to win. IMCA Mod Lites are back for their second of five visits. IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts, plus the Vintage Cars, round out the card. Grandstands are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/military/kids (7-12), and free for kids 6 and under. Pit passes are $35 for ages 14 & over and $25 for ages 13 & under. Pits open at 3p, grandstands at 4p, drivers meeting at 4:45p, hot laps at 5p, and racing to follow.

Other upcoming major events at Sports Park Raceway are the following: the White Transfer & Storage IMCA Northern Sport Mods will have a $1,000-to-win special + the rescheduled United Plant Services IMCA Modifieds Fast Shaft All-Star Invitational Qualifier on July 12th; the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks will feature a $1,000-to-win special on July 26th; and Kids Night, sponsored by Kemna Auto of Fort Dodge, will take place on August 2nd.
