Repeat Winners on Minute Man Printing Night
By Jeremy Fox

Marshalltown, Iowa (May 29th, 2015) – Hot and Humid day left race promoter Toby Kruse scratching his head on what to do the track but after no liquid sunshine came the call was made to go on as scheduled with Minute Man Printing Night. 86 participants signed in the five weekly classes and Open Quads.

The racing action was great and when all the dust settled it was Jake Strayer (IMCA Modifieds), Jimmy may (Mod Lites), Austin Luellen (IMCA Hobby Stocks), Clint Luellen (IMCA Northern SportMods) and David Brandies (IMCA Stock Cars). Open Quads went to Travis Brandt.

Erin Turner and Jason Whitehead started on the front row in the Mod Lites 15 lap feature event and it was Whitehead grabbing the lead away. Whitehead led the first five laps before Jimmy May took the lead away on lap six after working his way from seventh starting spot. Jimmy May went on the win over Mike Morrill. Cory Sauerman took third, Randy Bryan was fourth and Jason Whitehead was fifth.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature had troubles getting one lap in before the caution came out when Nathan Gibson had a rear wheel came off that collected Eric Stanton, Garrett Eilander, Eugene Nicklas, Andy Peck and Brandon Pitts. When the race finally got going it was Tim Barber taking the lead lap one but on lap two, Barber was in a battle with Gary Pfantz and Austin Luellen. Pfantz led laps two and three but it was Austin Luellen grabbing it away on lap four. Luellen and the field saw the caution come out on lap seven twice but it was Luellen that was not to be denied as he took his 5th win of the season at Motown. Stanton worked his way through the field to finish second after being involved in the first caution. Tyson Overton, Pfantz and Dustin Lynch rounded out the top five.

Kevin Yearington took full advantage starting on the pole of the IMCA Northern SportMods 18 lap feature event as he led lap one but shortly after spun on the exit of turn two bring a caution. Scott Williams was given the lead but the caution came out two more times before another lap was scored. Williams lead until lap four when Sam Wieben took the spot away. Wieben looked to be cruising on to the win but Clint Luellen chase him down took the lead away on lap nine. Luellen and Wieben race for the lead the rest of the way but it was Luellen taking the checkers first. Wieben was second, Colby Heishman had another strong finish as he came home third, Brandon Williams was fourth and Jared Van Deest was fifth.

David Brandies wrestled the lead away in the MIller Lite IMCA Stock Car feature from Nick Thelen. Thelen got sideaways in turn three resulting Tyler Pickett and Steve Meyer with no where to go. Brandies pulled away but behind him the battle was for second featuring Jeff Wollam, Donavon Smith, Matt Deaton, Michael Jaennette and Trent Murphy. Brandies took the win meanwhile Trent Murphy grabbed second from Smith. Jaennette was fourth and Robert Stofer finished fifth.

Kyle Krampe led the opening lap in the Coors Light IMCA Modifieds feature but the caution came out shortly after when Kyle Brown came to a stop in turn one. Jake Strayer stole the lead way from Krampe on the restart and just after the completion of lap two, the caution came out again. Strayer was not going to let that bother him but by the time the caution came out on lap 14 for Andrew Kinser, Strayer saw Brian Irvine and Adam Larson right behind him. Strayer held them off meanwhile Jimmy Gustin worked his way up to battle with Irvine and on lap 17 they got together in turn one and Irvine came to a stop in turn one. Strayer again looked to be a veteran as he went on to become the first repeat winner in the Modifieds this year. Wood Wins a Thriller on Bill & Ray’s Night at the Southern Iowa Speedway
By Jeremy Fox

Oskaloosa, Iowa (May 27th, 2015) – Mother Nature won last week but this week the Southern Iowa Speedway was granted with sunny and warm temperatures. 84 cars sign in to tame the monster half mile on Bill and Ray's Night including 12 Iowa Sportsman Series Cars. Fans were treated with drivers walking up in the stands to thank the fans for coming out on a beautiful night and they were treated to some amazing finishes.

Winners on Bill and Ray's Night included Tyler Groenendyk (IMCA Modifieds), Nathan Wood (Stock Cars), Curtis VanDerWal (IMCA SportMods), Dustin Griffiths (IMCA Hobby Stocks), Michael Grossman (IMCA Sport Compacts) and Darin Dezwarte (Iowa Sportsman Series).

After the intial start called back in the IMCA Sport Compacts 12 lap feature event, it was William Michel taking the lead on lap one. Michel's lead was short lived as on lap two he experienced issues senting him pit side that gave the lead over to Michael Grossman. Grossman held off several challenges from John Whalen to take the win. Jon Girdley, Bill Whalen Jr and Trent Orwig rounded out the top five.

Dan Drury used his inside starting spot to lead the first lap of the KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMods 16 lap feature. Jason McDaniel wrestled the lead away on lap two only to see the caution come out shortly after first for Derek Liles spinning in turn two and then on the restart for Aaron Osweiler and DJ Robinson getting together in turn four. Drury headed pitside for some issues that allowed Curtis VanDerWal, who started ninth to restart second and he took advantage by grabbing the lead away from McDaniel. VanDerWal went on to take his fourth win of the season at SIS over McDaniel, Brayton Carter, Logan Anderson and Brett Lowry.

Up next was the "Class to Tough To Tame" Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature. Derrick Agee led the opening lap but it was Jerry Pilcher taking the lead away on lap two. Pilcher's time out front was short lived because Daniel Hilsabeck worked his way from sixth to the lead on lap three. Hilsabeck had several challenges from Cayden Carter and Damon Murty over the next eight laps including through a pair of cautions, when the final caution came out on lap 11 for Pilcher and Agee getting together. Hilsabeck now saw Carter, Murty and Nathan Wood in the mix. Carter took the lead away by Murty followed and wrestled the lead away on lap 14. Murty had his hands full and on the last lap saw Wood and Hilsabeck get on by him. Wood edged out Hilsabeck at the line to take his first win of the season at SIS. Murty finished third, Carter was fourth and Mike Hughes was fifth.

Bill Bonnett led the first seven laps in the Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event but it was Dustin Griffiths getting by on lap eight. Griffiths held off Bonnett for his second win in Osky. Travis Bunnell comes home with another third place finish. Danny Thrasher and Bobby Greene finished fourth and fifth.

Scott Dickey started on the front row along side Tyler Groenendyk and it was Dickey that grabbed the early lead in the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds 16 lap feature. Dickey appeared to be heading on to the win but a caution came out on lap 14 when Stephen Streeter spun in turn two. On the restart, Dickey slowed and that allowed Groenendyk to take the lead away. Groenendyk went on to take his first win at his hometown track over Carter VanDenBerg, Cayden Carter, Dugan Thye and Streeter.

Final feature of the night was for the Iowa Sportsman Series and it was Travis Dawson working his way from eighth to the lead by lap one. Dawson and the field saw the caution come out for Jason Delzell coming to a stop on the front stretch. Dawson had several challenges from Darin Dezwarte and Gene Tish but held them off until the final caution came out with two laps to go. Dezwarte took the lead away and held off a challenge from Tish coming to the checkers for the win. Dawson was third, Darin Van Dee was fourth and Tom Dumbaugh was fifth.

Kay, Schmidt, Smith, Burg and Morrill Winners on Memorial Day Shoout in Boone

Memorial Day is a day to remember those that served our country and lost their lifes or family members you may have lost. It also means the traditional Memorial Day races at the Boone Speedway featuring the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models.

Only 25 Late Models signed on Monday to race Boone so all of them raced the 40 lap feature event and it was Scott Fitzpatrick and Justin Kay, a pair of drivers from Wheatland on the Front row. Fitzpatrick took the top spot early and lead until the first race caution on lap ten. This allowed Kay and Todd Cooney to restart behind Fitzpatrick, Kay made the move and took the lead over and after the caution on lap 13, it appeared to be an easy win until the caution came out on lap 37. On the restart, Kay had Richie Gustin and Jeff Aikey in tow. Gustin and Kay raced side-by-side and it was Kay edging out Gustin coming to the white flag only to come out because Fitzpatrick had spun in the bottom of turn four. That set up a green-white-checkered finish which Kay was able to get a great restart and go on to take the win meanwhile Aikey got by Gustin for second. Tyler Droste and Ray Guss Jr rounded out the top five.

Mike Morrill led from start to finish in the 20 lap Stars Mod Lite feature event and not even a caution lap seven or lap traffic slowed him down. Jimmy May, Joel Keenan, Josh May and Charlie Brown finished second through fifth.

The IMCA Northern SportMods 20 lap feature was action packed but managed to go caution free. Brandon Williams led the first 13 laps before Doug Smith worked his way up to take the spot away on lap 14. Williams took it back a lap later and these two swapped the lead the next two laps. Williams took the lead away on lap 17 but Smith did not give up as he made the right move on the last lap to take the top spot and the win away coming to the checkered. Tim Love was third, Nate Whitehurst as fourth and Jonathan Logue was fifth.

"Napa" Jay Schmidt led wire to wire in the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car feature and not even a caution on lap six would slow him down. Donavon Smith tried to chase him down but time ran out. Brandon Pruitt came home third, Chris Pruitt was fourth and Wayne Gifford was fifth.

Final featue of the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature and it was Tim Barber leading the first four laps. The first caution came out on lap four and on the restart that allowed Andrew Burg to take the lead away. Burg took the win despite a caution on lap ten for debris. John Watson, Cody Gustoff, Barber and Shawn Wirtz rounded out the top five.

Luellen Brothers Double Up on Casey's General Stores Season Opener at Stuart

Mother Nature has not been to kind to the Stuart International Speedway this season but finally on Sunday Night, the season opened. It was Casey's General Stores Night and the first of five visits for the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Late Models.

Jacob Peters making his return to racing lead the opening lap in the IMCA Sport Compacts feature but it was Curtis Miller taking the lead on lap two. Miller however went for a wild ride as he rolled violently in turn one. Jacob Reiter inherited the lead over and lead the remaining eight laps to take the win. Dean Richards, a late arrival to the track finished second. Alex Davis was third, Peters was fourth and Randy Rush was fifth.

Dusty Masolini started on the front row and took advantage to lead lap one in the 15 lap IMCA SportMod feature but it was Defending Track Champion Clint Luellen taking the lead away on lap two. Luellen went on take the win despite a trio of mid race cautions. Jerry Hinton, Kody Havens, Kendall Davis and Masolini rounded out the top five.

After a caution came out before a single lap was completed in the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature it was Todd Shute taking the lead. Shute held off challenges from Nick Roberts and Luke Wanninger until lap 14. Wanninger got into the back end of Shute senting Shute around and forcing a caution, Shute was granted the lead back and Wanninger sent pit side. Shute led the remaining laps to take the win over Nick Roberts, Justin Zeitner, Todd Van Eaton and Shane DeMey.

Originally scheduled to be the final feature of the night but moved up because of the chance of a thunderstorm it was time for the 20 lap IMCA Late Model feature. Corey Zeitner grabbed the lead from his front row starting spot and appeared to be never looking back in the caution filled feature. Just after the White flag, Zeitner was dumped in turn one by Curtis Glover forcing the yellow-checkered and granting Zeitner his spot back which gave him the win. Scotty Welsh finished second, John Emerson finish third, Todd Cooney was fourth and Paul Nagle was fifth.

Austin Luellen led from start-to-finish in the 15 lap IMCA Hobby Stock feature event. Aaron Rudolph, Buck Schaforth, John Watson and Shannon Anderson rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Stock Car Feature event and it was Daniel Hilsabeck taking the early lead but the battle started heating up as Brian Blessington and Marcus Fagan added to the mix. Blessington took the lead on lap four but Hilsabeck took it back. Fagan took the lead away on lap 15 and went on to the win. Blessington was second, Chris Pruitt was third, Josh Daniels was fourth and Casey Greubel was fifth.

Next Sunday Night is the Ron Little/Bones Memorial featuring $1,000 to win IMCA Modifieds plus Mod Lites. Hot Laps at 5:30 and Racing to Follow around 6:15.

Whitehead Claims First Career Win on Scout Night at Motown

Whitehead Claims First Career Win on Scout Night at Motown
By Jeremy Fox

Marshalltown, Iowa (May 15th, 2015) – Friday Night was a guessing game for track officials and drivers at Marshalltown Speedway. First mother nature was not sure if she wanted to ruin the night full of racing action and then the racing action was hot and heavy.

Winners on Scout Night and Old Timers Lounge Night included Jake Strayer (IMCA Modifieds), Donavon Smith (IMCA Stock Cars), Keegan Scott (IMCA Northern SportMods), Eric Stanton (IMCA Hobby Stocks) and Jason Whitehead (Mod Lites). Outlaw Lawn Mowers also took to the speedway and that feature went to Jeff Benge.

Jason Whitehead used his outside front row starting spot to lead the field in the Mod Lites feature event. Whitehead cruised his way to his first ever career win. Terry Brown tried to chase him down but came home second. Josh May out dueled Travis Stensland for third and Cory Sauerman was fifth.

Travis Merical lead the first two laps of the Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature before slipping up enough to leave the door open for Tyson Overton to take the lead away. Overton appeared to be heading to the win until he left saw Eric Stanton power his way up to battle for the lead. Stanton took the lead away with two laps to go, and held on to take his second win of the season at Motown. Overton finished second, Eugene Nicklas was third, Dustin Elliott came from ninth to fourth and John Watson finished fifth.

After a pair of cautions before a lap was completed in the IMCA Northern SportMods 18 lap feature, it was time to click the laps off. Jayme Duinink wrestled the lead away from Dusty Masolini on the first lap and continued to lead until lap eight. On lap eight, it was Clint Luellen taking the top spot away and about the only thing slowing down Luellen was lap traffic. The final caution came out on lap 13 for debris in turn two resulting in Keagan Scott and Duinink on Luellen's back bumper. Luellen held off Scott until lap 17 but it was Scott taking the lead away. Scott held off challenges from Luellen in the final set of turns to take the win. Duinink, Brandon Williams and Jared Van Deest rounded out the top five.

Matt Deaton would lead the Miller Lite IMCA Stock Cars feature through a series of race cautions. Donavon Smith worked his way from tenth to fourth by the time of the second caution on lap eight. Smith grabbed the lead away on lap ten and went on to take the win though cautions on lap 13 for debris and lap 16 when a handful of cars got together in turn four. Steve Meyer worked his way from ninth to second, Michael Jaennette was third. Andrew Lokenvitz came from 11th to fourth and Jared Daggett edged out Deaton for fifth.

Coors Light IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature was full of action packed two, three and sometimes four wide racing. Trent Jackson took the early lead and behind him, Kyle Brown and Jake Strayer battled it out for second. Strayer took second away and set his sights on taking the lead and by lap four he was out front leading. Strayer looked comfortable out front when the caution came out on lap seven and then again for a multiple car incident on lap eight that forced a red flag.
