It was a very beautiful Saturday and i had a lot of options to go watch racing after being in Boone for three of the last four saturday's i decided to take a break from Boone and head somewhere along Highway 14. After looking at Mother nature heading towards Knoxville i headed north on Highway 14 until i got to Highway 20 where then i had the decision to head West to Webster City or East to Indee.
Well I made the decision to head West to Webster City where that gave me a chance to chat with some of the drivers before the races something i had not done often and chatted with some friends i only get to see at Webster City.
First feature of the night was the ten lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature event. Nick Hogan grabbed the top spot early but Defending Track Champion Danny Sassman Jr took the lead away on lap five. Hogan and Sassman was in a great battle for the lead and John Gill made a three car battle for the lead. On lap eight, Hogan, Sassman and Gill got together in turn three bring out the caution flag. Sassman went pit side, Gill was sent to the pits for questionable driving meanwhile Hogan rejoined the race at the tail. That gave the lead to Aaron Miller but Miller had lost power that allowed Hogan to take over the lead on lap nine. Hogan took the win with Andrew Bieber and Aaron Miller finishing second and third.
Chanse Hollatz making the trek from Clear Lake took full advantage of his pole position in the 16 lap IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event. Hollatz went on to the win after leading from start to finish but had to hold off late race charges from Kyle Schmauss. Bryce Sommerfeld, Randy Embrey and Matt Mundt rounded out the top five.
Up next was the 18 lap IMCA SportMods feature event and it was Webster City's Ty Griffith taking the early lead. Griffith pulled away only to see a caution on lap eight when Autumn Anderson spun around in the middle of turns one and two. Griffith again pulled away but the final race caution came out on lap 15 forcing a three lap shootout. Griffith held on for the win over Jared Van Deest, Brandon Toftee, Jerid Ratzke and Taylor Musselman.
Before a single lap was completed in the 18 lap IMCA Stock Cars feature event there was a red flag when Jon Braathun flipped in turn two that collected Vince Loewen and Joe Luethje. Loewen and Luethje went pit side meanwhile Braathun rejoined after being flipped back over. Jeff Deal took the lead on the complete restart and lead until lap 11 when Jake Masters, who was running second saw the door open in turn one because lap traffic was in front of your leader, Masters however spun around in the middle of turns one and two bring the caution out. On the restart, Deal saw Travis Prochaska take the top spot away and it was Prochaska going on to take the win. Deal finished second, Malcolm Teachout was third, John Campbell was fourth and Masters came back to finish fifth.
Greg Elliott took the lead on lap one in the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event but the caution came out when Scott Olson spun in turn two. Elliott and the field saw the caution come out again after lap two was completed. Elliott was not letting any of them bother him as he continued to lead but Dustin Smith stayed close even though Smith began to smoke heavily at the exit of the straight-away but it did not bother him as he was able to chase down Elliott and take the lead away on lap 15. Smith took the win over Elliott, Kyle Brown, Todd Shute and Nick Roberts.
Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Late Models feature and it was Ryan Griffith taking the early lead. Griffith pulled away and looked to be on cruise control but on lap nine, Jason Hahne had chase him down and battled for the lead. Hahne took the top spot away from Griffith, Griffith exited pit side with mechanical troubles. Hahne saw the caution come out on lap 17 for debris on the front stretch but got a great restart and went on to take the win. Ben Nading finished in second, Darrel DeFrance went from ninth to third, Paul Nagle was fourth and Paul Conrad was fifth.
