Gustin Wins Again in Marshalltown

It was Johnny Ray's Bar & Grille Night at the Marshalltown Speedway and we would have 6 classes in competition and the ever so popular spectator eliminator races for the 2nd time this year. We would have 101 race cars sign in and 8 spectator eliminators.

The first feature of the night was the Iowa Micro Sprint Series Sprints. Ben Woods would take the early lead after starting tenth, Woods would lead until 3 laps to go when Russ Prather was able to chase him down and make the pass. Prather would take the win in the green-to-checkered feature with Woods taking 2nd. Eric Bridger, Kelly Buckallew and Nathan Mills rounded out the top 5.

In the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites saw Jeff Stensland lead the first few laps before Colby Oberembt would get by and take the lead. Oberembt would take the win with Josh May in 2nd, Mike Morrill in 3rd, James May in 4th and Andy Hennigar was 5th.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature saw Rookie Brice Udelhoven dominate as he would lead the feature from start to finish depsite the only race caution on lap 3. The win would Udelhoven's first career hobby stock win. Brandon Brinton, Gary Pfantz, Michael Murphy and Eric Larson finished 2nd through 5th.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods would see Brett Lowry take the early race lead but then the caution would fly on laps 2 and 3. Lowry would have to deal with Brad Iverson and Jenae Gustin and Gustin would make the pass on Iverson and then pass Lowry for the lead on lap 6. Gustin would continue to lead even though the races final caution came out on lap 11. Gustin earned the nickname "The Sweeper" last week and she would live up to that as she would take her 3rd feature of the year. Cousins Cayden Carter and Carter Vandenberg would finish 2nd and 3rd. Scott Davis and Racer Hulin would finish 4th and 5th.

Mike's Hard Lemonade Stock Cars would live up to the name "Class To Tough To Tame" as Andy Bryant would lead the first 2 laps before Jay Schmidt would take the top spot on lap 3. Schmidt however would be passed by Rob Schneider on lap 4 but Schmidt would come back and take the lead on lap 5. On lap 6 the only race caution came out when Rob Schneider would go off the top of turns 3 & 4 and roll over, Schneider would climb from the car okay. Schmidt would hold off the rest of the field for his 2nd win of the year at Marshalltown. Trent Murphy, Tracy Gienger, Damon Murty and Steve Meyer was 2nd through 5th.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds and it was Kyle Krampe leading the first lap but then the first caution would come out for a car spun in turn 4 and the on the restart for 3 cars getting together in turn 1. On this restart, Krampe would be passed by Todd Conrad. Conrad would continue to lead but another caution would come out on lap 4 and this time Conrad would have Jon Snyder. Snyder would make the pass for the lead on lap 6 and start to pull away and look to be cruising to the win but then the caution would come forcing a green-white-checkered finish with 2 to go. Snyder would have Luke Wanninger on his back bumper, Snyder would go high and Wanninger down low it was Wanninger taking the lead and going on to the win. Ronn Lauritzen would get by Snyder for 2nd, Conrad and Scott Simatovich would finish 4th and 5th.

After that the ever so popular eliminator races would thrill the fans and once all that was completed the final checkered flag flew at 10:12p putting an end to a great night of racing.

Next Friday we will be back at and will have the Modified Gambler Race also on the nights agenda with Hot Laps at 7p and Racing to Follow.

Beuseling and Sobbing win the Late Models and Sport Mods at the Harris Clash

It was time to make a return visit to the Knoxville Raceway for the 2nd half of the 20th Annual Harris Clash. This night would have the Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models for their 25th Anniversary Season and The IMCA Sport Mods. 59 Sport Mods signed in and 38 Late Models signed in to compete on the big half mile at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville.

The Deery Brothers Summer Series 35 Lap feature for the Late Models was up first and it was was Nate Beuseling taking the lead by using the high line before moving back to the perferred line on the inside. Beuseling would start to pull away until he started to encounter lap traffic which would allow Todd Cooney to close the gap.

Beuseling would go and take the feature event by several car lengths over Cooney in the feature that went green-to-checkered. Mike Garland, Jay Johnson and Matt Strassheim rounded out the top 5 meanwhile Brian Harris, Ray Guss Jr, Nick Marolf, Andy Eckrich and Justin Reed rounding out the top 10.

In the IMCA Sport Mod feature 20 lap feature event it was Jesse Sobbing would take the lead from the start by passing Beau Kaplan in turn 2. In which he would cruise on to the win in a convincing fashion. Austin Kaplan would finish behind Sobbing with several lap cars between them. Gillenwater took 3rd, Carter VanDenBerg was 4th, Beau Kaplan was 5th, Tyler Droste was 6th, Doug Smith was 7th, Racer Hulin was 8th, Cayden Carter was 9th and Andy Tiernan was 10th.

Racing action came to a finish at 10:20p. I a big thanks to Bob Harris, Bobby Harris, IMCA and Knoxville Raceway for 2 great nights of the Harris Clash.

Gustin and May Clean Sweep at Marshalltown

Last week's features were rained out and forced double features on Hy-Vee/Hy-Vee Gas and Hogeland Auto Plaza Kids night would bring a night full of some great racing action.

The night would start with the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites Make-Up feature. Before a lap could be scored the yellow would come out. Jeff Stensland would take the lead when the racing action got going but Mike Morrill would take the lead on lap 4 from Stensland. Morrill's lead was short lived as he would blow up on the backstretch and hand the lead over to Josh May. May would not look back and go on to take the win, Stensland took 2nd, Dusty Masolini was 3rd, Joel Huggins in 4th and James May was 5th.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods Make-Up feature it was DJ Robinson taking the early lead. The only caution would come out on lap 3 for a car coming to a stop in turn 3. Robinson would have to deal with Jenae Gustin and Gustin would make the pass on Robinson. Gustin would go on and take the win, Scott Davis was 2nd, Cayden Carter was 3rd, DJ Robinson was 4th and Jared Van Deest was 5th.

The Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks Make-Up feature would see Rookie Brice Udelhoven lead the first 5 laps before Michael Murphy took the lead away on lap 6. Murphy took the win in the feature that would go green-to-checkered with Kevin Fee, Udelhoven, Eric Larson and Calvin Dhondt rounding out the top 5.

Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars Make-Up feature was up next and it was Steve Meyer taking the race lead. Meyer and the field would see the only caution come out on lap 4, Meyer wouldn't let that bother him as he would hold on to the top spot until lap 10 when Tracy Gienger would sneak by Meyer. Gienger took the win with Damon Murty in 2nd, Trent Murphy was 3rd, Meyer finished 4th and Donavon Smith came home 5th.

Last Up in the Make-Up features was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds for 20 laps. Todd Conrad would take the early race lead but then the first race caution came out on lap 2. On the restart, Conrad would have to deal with Adam Larson. Larson would make the pass on lap 4 and not look back even though the caution waved again on lap 7.  Finishing behind Larson was Jimmy Gustin, Jon Snyder, Ronn Lauritzen and Scott Simatovich.

Then it was time for the regular program of the night and before we could complete the heats, mother nature would drop some of her famous liquid sunshine but within about 15 minutes we were back to racing and the rest of the night would be finished without any more interruptions.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites were up for their 15 lap feature after all of that and it was Travis Stensland taking the early lead. Josh May would make the high side pass for the lead on lap 3. The only race caution came out on lap 6 but that didn't bother May as he would pull away and take the win. Actually it would make a clean sweep for May as he took the Make-Up feature, heat race and feature events. Mike Morrill would finish 2nd in a borrowed race car, Andy Hennigar was 3rd, Joel Huggins was 4th and Stensland was 5th.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature would see Josh Saunders lead the first 5 laps. Kevin Fee would make the pass on lap 6 but Devin Smith would make the pass on lap 9. Smith took the win in the feature that again would go green-to-checkered. Fee finished 2nd, Michael Murphy was 3rd, Josh Saunders was 4th and Eric Larson was 5th.

Up next would be the Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars for 18 laps. Todd Reitzler would take the early lead only to see Tommy Thompson take it from him on lap 3. Reitzler would come back and take it back on lap 4 and go to the win despite 2 cautions on lap 7. Finishing behind Reitzler was Donavon Smith, Damon Murty, Steve Meyer and Michael Jaennette.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods regular 15 lap feature it was Jenae Gustin lead the entire feature event to complete the clean sweep for her. The only 3 cautions came out on lap 3 but it was Gustin stay cool calm and collected as she would go on to the win. Doug Smith tried to catch but came up short so he settled for 2nd with Racer Hulin, Tyler Droste and Cayden Carter finishing 3rd through 5th.

The final feature of the night was the 20 lap Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds. Ronn Lauritzen would lead the first 8 laps in the feature, 2 cautions happen in the early going though would slow the event down. Jon Snyder would make the move and pass for the lead on lap 9 and that would be the winning pass to go on and take the win. Larson finished 2nd, Lauritzen fell back to 3rd, Jimmy Gustin came home 4th and Scott Simatovich finished 5th.

Racing action came to an end at 10:15p even though we started early and had a 15 minute rain delay in the program. Next Friday Night we are back at it with Johnny Ray's Bar & Grille Night at the Races we will also have the Iowa Mini Sprints on hand and we will have the ever so popular Spectator Eliminator races.

Dillon and Crafton takes the wins at the Iowa Speedway

It was time for the 3rd race weekend at Iowa Speedway. Friday Night there was a Fan Fest going but bc of prior commitments at Marshalltown i was unable to attend but Saturday it was a day full of racing that was if you could survive the heat.

It was getting hard to find places to stay cool and drink something cold all day to stay hydrated but the racing was heating up.

Ty Dillon would win the pole in the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Qualifying and it was David Mayhew winning the pole in the Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee Qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

After meeting a few of the drivers it was time for the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Ty Dillon and Cale Gale lead the field to the green but before entire lap was completed under green, Milka Duno would go around in turn 3 after contact with another car. The race would resume on lap 6 with Dillon still continuing to lead.

On this day it looked like Dillon would lead the entire race as he started to pull away but again the yellow would come out on lap 50 for Chad McCumbee in turn 2 and Matt Lofton in turn 4. The race would go back green after 9 caution laps. Dillon still remained the leader but the caution came out on lap 59 for Matt Merrell in turn 1, the race went back green on lap 64.

The next race caution came out on lap 91 for Tom Berte in turn 1, went back to green on lap 98. On lap 109 it was Brandon Kidd in turn 4, the caution was only out for 4 laps but because of pit stops by the leaders, Dillon would lose the lead and Chris Buescher would be the new leader.

Buescher's lead was short lived bc Dillon would make the pass for the lead on lap 118 with the yellow coming out on lap 122 for Maryeve Dufult in turn 4, the race resumed on lap 127. The next caution came out on lap 159 for Chad Hackenbracht in turn 4, the caution was only out for 5 laps. The final caution came out on lap 187 for debris in turn 2 and the race resumed with 10 laps to go.

Dillon would lead the last 10 laps and go on to the win. Cale Gale would take 2nd, Chris Buescher was 3rd, Grant Enfinger was 4th and Tim George Jr was 5th. Frank Kimmel, Clay Rogers, Tom Hessert, Sean Corr and Chad Hackenbracht was 6th through 10th.

The night's cap was the headliner for the weekend and that is the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee. David Mayhew and Joey Coulter would lead the field to the green. It was Mayhew getting the great start and taking the lead. The first caution would come out for Brian Icklor spinning in turn 2 on lap 10, the race resumed on lap 14.

When they got going only 2 laps would be completed when the next caution came out on lap 16 for Ricky Carmichael on frontstretch with the race resuming on lap 21. On the restart this time it would be Johnny Sauter would take the lead and would lead until lap 30. Austin Dillon, Ty's Older Brother, would take the lead away from Suater and looked like he would match his brother's win.

On lap 63 a caution came out for Jason White having a tire going down, the race would resume on lap 70. 6 laps later on lap 76 the caution came out again for Ron Hornaday Jr. in turn 2, they went back racing on lap 80.

Then on lap 102 it was Justin Marks sliding across the infield grass and hitting the concrete wall. This would result in a red flag on lap 107 not because of the driver as he would climb from the truck by himself and then was taken to the infield medical center where he was taken to a near by hospital for further observation. Meanwhile the saefty crew and nascar crew would begin to repair the concrete wall.

After almost 15 minutes of repairing the concrete wall it was back to racing at the Iowa Speedway. Dillon continued to lead even until the race caution came out on lap 153 for Ricky Carmichael in turn 4.

Pit Stops would be made and it was Todd "The Onion" Bodine taking the lead on lap 156, Dillon would fall back to 8th after the pit stops. Matt Crafton would lead take the lead from Bodine on lap 161.

Crafton continued to lead until lap 188 when Dillon would race for the lead and take it but it was Crafton taking the lead right back on lap 189. Crafton would lead the final 11 laps and take the win with Dillon in 2nd, Mayhew in 3rd, Sauter in 4th and Joey Coulter in 5th. Cole Whitt, James Buescher, Nelson Piquet Jr., David Starr and Bodine would round out the top 10.

The next race weekend at Iowa Speedway is August 5th and 6th when the NASCAR Nationwide Series returns for the US Cellular 250 presented by Enlist Weed Control and the ASA Midwest Tour Late Models.

Up next for me is the double features at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday and the Showdown at Motown Go Karts, Quads and Bikes Races on Saturday unless i decide to get a mid week race in.

Mother Nature wins the Features on Stesland Farms Night

After we had a light shower hit the track before the night would get going but the track crw would work the surface in a enough to get the races started.

All of the heat races would be completed and then it was going to be time for the Faster Pastor Race but before that would happen the rain would come down again and again the track crew went to work. It seemed like it was going to let up but mother nature again would downpour and that would pull the plug on the night.

Racing action will start next friday night at 7p with the Make-Up Features from Stensland Farms Night and then the regular night races on Hy-Vee and Hogeland Auto Plaza Kids Night.

Droste Wins On a Last Lap Pass to Take the Win on Budweiser Night

Great racing action greeted racing fans with some great racing action. There was 89 race cars signed in to do battle on Budweiser Night at the Marshalltown Speedway.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites were up first for 15 laps and it was Charlie Brown taking the lead from the pole and didn't look back. The only thing that slowed him was the caution that came out on lap 2 when Tim Hennigar blew up and came to a stop on the run off road meanwhile in turn 1, Josh May, James May and Kevin Grisham got together which resulted in James May to roll but May would continue meanwhile Josh May and Kevin Grisham would go to the pits. Brown would still go on and take the win, Colby Oberembt took 2nd, Mike Morrill was 3rd, Andy Hennigar was 4th and Joel Huggins was 5th.

Before one lap would be completed in the Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature the caution would come out for debris on the front stretch. When the race got going it was Jake Nelson leading the first 3 laps before Kevin Fee would get by and went on to the feature win. Michael Murphy would get by Nelson for 2nd, Nelson would beat Eric Knutson by a bumper for 3rd and Jennifer Hulin would finish behind Knutson for 5th.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature would be caution filled in the first 2 thirds of the race. Tom Rawlins would lead the first 2 laps before Carter Vandenberg would get by and take the lead. Vandenberg would get past by Cayden Carter on lap 9. Carter looked to be going on to the win but Tyler Droste would chase him down and on the last lap make a pass and take the win from Carter. Finishing behind Droste was Carter, Scott Davis, Vandenberg and Brad Iverson.

Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars feature saw three, four, five and one point six wide racing. "The Silver Bullet" Andy Bryant would take the lead early. Bryant would be passed by Jeff Wollam on lap 7 but Wollam's lead was short lived as Damon Murty would get by the next lap. The only thing that slowed Murty was a caution on lap 12. Murty would go on and take the win, Wollam took 2nd, Trent Murphy, Tracy Gienger and Curt Hook would finish 3rd through 5th.

The final feature was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds and Andrew Kinser would lead the first lap but Jon Snyder would make the pass for the lead on lap 2. Snyder would use the bottom line around the race track, lap traffic and the only race caution on lap 16 would be the things that slowed Snyder. Snyder would go on and take the win, Ronn Lauritzen, Danny Fetters, Brett Ladehoff and Scott Simatovich would round out the top 5.

Racing action came to an end at 10:05pm. Next week its a busy week of the Central Iowa Fair taking place which includes a Midweek Mayhem Demolition Derby on Wednesday, Stensland Farms Night at the Races on Friday, Fairtastic Rodeo on Saturday and Midwest Truck Association Truck Pulls on Sunday.

Stensland Farms Night will also feature our fastor pastor race, Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing at 7.

Long Crosses Line 1st but Dailey gets the Win at the Harris Clash

I have found the Harris Clash as a must see event in the past years and this year was no difference so i decide to make the 60 mile trek from Marshalltown to the famous Knoxville Raceway on the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville for the 20th Annual Harris Clash.

This night of the Harris Clash would have only the IMCA Modifieds as the IMCA Late Models and IMCA Sport Mods will run theirs on Tuesday July 26th. There would be 74 IMCA Modified drivers signed in from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and Canada to do battle on the 1/2 mile.

The only major in the heats and b-features was when Luke Wanninger would roll on the back stretch, Wanninger would climb from the car okay.

After 6 heats and 3 b-features helped get the best 30 cars for the feature it was time for the 30 lap feature. The interesting format for the feature as they would run 15 laps then have a 5 minute pit stop break and then run the final 15 laps.

Kenny Schrader and Randy Havlik would redraw the front row for the feature but before a lap could be completed the caution would fly for Levi Nielsen getting into the wall. That caution would force a complete restart and when it got going it was 2nd row starter Michael Long taking the race lead and really never looking back.

The second race caution came out on lap 9 when Josh Foster came to a rest on the back stretch. On the restart LOng would have Havlik and Schrader right behind him but again Long would pull away.

The next caution would be the halfway caution for the 5 minute pit stop and as soon as the line-up was correct, the crews would have 5 minutes to do work on the car. After the pit stop the race would resume and Long would get a great restart again but the caution flew again on lap 17 for debris on the race track and for Jimmy Gustin getting in the turn 3 wall.

On the restart and before the field could complete another lap the caution would come out as Fred Schimmels would lose the handle in turn 1.

Long would still be able to pull away but then 3 more cautions came out on lap 22, first for Joel Bushore and Kellen Chadwic getting together, 2nd one for John Allen in turn 4 and then for Jay Noteboom coming to a stop in turn 1 after something broke in the rear end of the car.

Long would have Schrader, Mark Elliott and Eric Dailey right there. Dailey started 17th in the feature. Long would get an excellent restart and go on and lead the final  8 laps and Dailey would get by Elliott and Schrader but didn't have enough laps to chase down Long.

This is where it gets interesting, Long would cross the line in first but he would come across the scales 20 lbs too light, he was giving 3 chances to make the weight across the scale but failed to do so so that handed the win over to Eric Dailey would moved up 16 spots in the feature.

After Dailey was credited the win, Jordan Grabouski took 2nd, Kenny Schrader was 3rd, Mike Van Genderen was 4th and Todd Shute took 5th.

My only problem all night was the track was a little rough so hopefully the track will be in better shape in 2 weeks for the Late Models and Sport Mods Harris Clash.

Thanks to Bob Harris, Knoxville Raceway, Tim Stevens Racing and all the wonderful drivers for such great hospitality. Tammy from Tim Stevens Racing thanks for the wonderful supper.

Reminder to attend Marshalltown Speedway this friday as the IMCA Modifieds will be racing for $500 to win and don't forget Sunday at the Benton County Speedway its the Hogan Memorial for the IMCA Modifieds with at least $1,250 to win!

Hot and Steamy Racing on Leytham Racing Night at the Marshalltown Speedway

It was hot and humid all day long but that didn't stop as the racing action would be hot and steamy all night. The was 87 race cars signed in to do battle on the high banks of Marshalltown.

After all the heat races we would have a father and son grudge match with the Leythams. Gatlin Leytham would beat out his dad Fred Leytham to take the win. Then we would turn horsepower into peddle power for the kids bike races, the youngsters would get a lap on the high banks of the Marshalltown Speedway. Josh Vis would be out track promotor Toby Kruse for the win.

The first feature of the night was the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites. Adam Davis would take the early lead but then the first caution came out on lap 2 for 4 cars to get together in turn 2. On the restart, Davis would have Mike Kennedy on his back bumper and Kennedy would get by and after the lap was scored the caution came out for Robert Kientz in turn 2 but when we would resume going the caution would come out this time for Kientz taking a roll in turn 2. Kientz would climb from the car okay. Kennedy would have to battle with Randy Bryan, Bryan would make the pass on lap 5 but Kennedy would not go away and later on it would be Tim Hennigar battling with them. Bryan took the win with Tim Hennigar, Mike Kennedy, Andy Hennigar and Adam Davis finishing 2nd through 5th.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock feature would see some great racing action. Jennifer Hulin would lead the first couple of laps. The caution would come out on lap 2 for Scott Williams in turn 2. Hulin would have to battle with Nelson on the restart and Nelson would make the pass on lap 4 to take the lead over. The caution would again fly on lap 5 for debris in turn 3. Brandon Brinton takes the top spot away on lap 6  but just after that happened the caution came out again. Kevin Fee would make the pass on Brinton and take the lead on lap 8. The caution would fly two more times on lap 9 and lap 10.  On the final restart, Fee would have to do battle with Michael Murphy. Coming off turn 4 on the final lap, Murphy would make it stick and beat Fee too the line to take the win. Donavon Nunnikhoven, Brandon Brinton amd Christopher Wiltse rounding out the top 5.

Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods saw 27 cars signed in so no b-feature would be required for them on this night. Before a lap would be completed 3 cars would get together in turn 2. On the restart, Duinink would take lead early but then the caution would come out again on lap 2. Jenae Gustin would pass Duinink to take the lead over on lap 4 but just after that another caution came out. Gustin's lead was short lived as Cayden Carter would make the pass on the restart to take the lead. The cautions on lap 6, 7 and 11 would be the only thing that would slow Carter down as he would cruise on to the win. Tyler Droste, Scott Davis, Brad Iverson and Eric Flander would finish 2nd through 5th.

Andy Bryant would lead the first lap in the IMCA Stock Cars feature but Steve Meyer would get around and lead lap 2. Curt Hook would lead lap 3 before Meyer regained the lead on lap 4. Meyer would hold on to the lead despite a caution on lap . Meyer would reamin the leader until lap 11 in which he was passed by Trent Murphy. Murphy would take the win even after the caution with 4 laps to go. Meyer took 2nd, Tracy Gienger was 3rd, Jay Schmidt was 4th and Curt Hook came home in 5th.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature. Ronn Lauritzen would take the early lead, the caution would come out on lap 2. Lauritzen would still remain in the lead despite the final race caution on lap 7 for a car in turn 2. Laurtizen would be passed by Todd Shute on lap 14. Shute would go on and take the win with Lauritzen taking 2nd. Jimmy Gustin, Duane Peterson and Adam Larson rounded out the top 5.

Racing action came to an end at 10:20pm. Racing action resumes next friday night at Marshalltown for Budweiser Night at the Races, Hot Laps at 6:45p and Racing at 7:30p sharp.
