Hennigar Makes it 3 in a Row at Motown

The final friday night in the month of August thrilled the fans with some great racing action. There was 3 and 4 wide racing through out the night which was sponsored by Custom Concrete of Marshalltown.

The first feature of the night was the Iowa Micro Sprint Series 12 lap feature. Russ Prather, who was borrowing a race car would lead the first couple of laps but Ben Woods would make the pass for the lead on lap 3 and go on to the win in the green-to-checkered race. Prather, Eric Bridger, Alan Comegys and Bruce Drotty would round out the top 5.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites would Jeff Stensland take the lead on lap 1 but Tim Hennigar would make the pass for the lead on lap 2. A lap later the only race caution would come out but that wouldn't bother Hennigar. Hennigar would go on and take the win, 5th of the year and 3rd in a row. Josh May would take 2nd, Joel Huggins came home in 3rd, James May was 4th and Andy Hennigar was 5th.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks would see Randy Embrey lead entire feature that would go green-to-checkered. Clint Nelson tried to catch Embrey but ended up settle for 2nd. Jake Nelson, Michael Murphy and Eric Knutson rounded out the top 5.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature it was Jayme Duinink taking the early lead. The first race caution would come out for debris and this would put Tom and Zack Rawlins behind Duinink. Zack Rawlins would make the pass on his dad and then pass Duinink on lap 4 to take the lead. The second race caution came out on lap 8 and that would put Jake Strayer right behind Rawlins. Strayer would make the pass on Rawlins on lap 11 and go on to take the win, 2nd win of the year at Marshalltown. Tyler Droste would get by Zack Rawlins for 2nd. Racer Hulin took 4th and Scott Davis was 5th.

Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars lived up to the name of "Class To Tough To Tame" as it was Trevor Titus leading the race early. Titus would hold the top spot until the only race caution on lap 5 when Lauren Vis would roll over in turn 4, Vis would be okay. On the restart, Titus would have do battle with Steve Meyer and Meyer would actually lead laps 7 and 8 before Titus would take it back on lap 9. Titus would lose the handle in turn 2 and that would allow Trent Murphy to make a move and take the lead. Murphy would go on to his 5th win of the year at Marshalltown. Damon Murty, Donavon Smith, Jay Schmidt and Steve Meyer would round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds. Duane Peterson would take the lead and would lead to the halfway point despite the first race caution on lap 7. Todd Conrad would make the pass and take the lead on lap 11 but then Conrad and Peterson would get together in turn 2 that would end up bringing out the caution handing the lead over to Jon Snyder. Snyder wouldn't look back as he would go on to his 8th win at Marshalltown this year and add on to his point lead. Josh Gilman would finish 2nd, Adam Larson was 3rd, Andrew Kinser was 4th and Kyle Krampe was 5th.

Next Friday Night will wrap the points championships as it will be the North 3rd Ave Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Season Championships with Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing at 7:30.

Don't forget the Havoc on the High Banks on September 23rd and 24th and the Battle at the Barn 4 on January 20th and 21st.

Alot of Excitement on Rouse Motor Dodge and Cliff Chambers Memorial Night

It was time to get back to business at the Marshalltown Speedway where it was Rouse Motor Dodge of Grundy Center, Cliff Chambers Memorial and Racin' for Mason Night at the Speedway. The Nostalgia Cars and Vintage Cars joined the fun on the night as well and after the races the fans got the opportunity to test drive a new dodge thanks to Rouse Motor Dodge.

The first feature of the night was the Vintage Cars and it was Austin Russell taking the win, Wade Russell in 2nd, Mark David was 3rd and Jim Kippling was 4th.

The Nostalgia Cars saw a friend of the great Cliff Chambers win as John Schroyer would take the race lead midway through the feature after passing Ted Zieman. Finishing behind Schroyer and Zieman was James Kippling, Chad Olson and Jim Anderson.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites was up next and it would be Tim Hennigar finishing right where he left off as he would take the lead right away and never look back despite a couple of cautions on lap 2. Hennigar would go on and take his 4th of the year at Marshalltown and 2nd in a row. Mike Morrill, Andy Hennigar, Jeff Stensland and Randy Bryan would round out the top 5.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature would see the caution come out before 1 lap was completed. Once the race got going it was Zack Rawlins taking the lead but then 2nd race caution came out on lap 3. Rawlins would still remain out front but he would have to deal with his dad Tom on the restart. Zack Rawlins remained out from until Carter VanDenBerg would make the pass for the lead on lap 8. VanDenBerg would go on and take his 2nd win at Marshalltown, Tyler Droste was 2nd, Jenae Gustin got 3rd, Tom Rawlins fell back to 4th and Scott Davis would take over the point lead sole with a 5th place finish.

Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars would truly live up to the name of "Class Too Tough To Tame" in their 18 lap feature. Tommy Thompson would lead the first couple of laps before Jay Schmidt would get by on the highside. Schmidt and the field would see the caution come on lap 6 and then again on lap 7. Schmidt would have to now deal with Damon Murty and infact on lap 9 Schmidt and Murty would get together a little and that allowed Trent Murphy to get on by. That move by Murphy would end up putting him in victory lane for his 4th of the year at Marshalltown. Murty, Schmidt, Kevin Rose and Todd Reitzler would round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds. Andrew Kinser would take the early race lead but the first race caution came out on lap 1 and then again on lap 5. On the restart, Kinser would have to battle with Jon Snyder and Snyder would make the pass for the lead on lap 8. Snyder looked like the win was going to be his but with 3 laps to go, Snyder would spin around in turn 2 handing the lead over to Adam Larson. Larson would go on and take the win and Jimmy Gustin would finish 2nd. Josh Truman, Jacob Murray and Todd Conrad would round out the top 5.

Fee, Anderson, Elliott, Weyer, Moro and Darbyshire win Iowa State Fair Races

I woke early in the morning to go spend the day at the Iowa State Fair all day before the races. My body was so wore out though because of all the walking around. That didn't stop me though as i decided to go in the pits to say hey to several of the drivers i only get to see a few times a year and it turns out this would be race number 46 for me this year.

Anyways after the heat races were done there was b-features to be run and the Stock Cars were up first with the b-features and it was Donavon Smith taking the win with Randy Killen in 2nd, Steve Campbell in 3rd and Andy Bryant in 4th. Sport Mod b-feature saw Jenae Gustin take the win, Mike Stark took 2nd, Nick Roberts was 3rd, Casey Gruebul was 4th with Tommy Killen Jr and Mike Hay taking the final 2 transfer spots.  In the Late Model B-features it was Nate Beuseling and Ben Nading winning them.

It was now time for championship features and the first 2 features were the IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap features. In Hobby Stock feature #1 it was Knoxville's Kevin Fee taking the lead early and not look back despite the only race caution coming out on lap 4 for debris. Fee would be chased down by Rob Allison from Des Moines in the later going but hold him off for the win. Allison took 2nd with Shane Klaassen, who made a 4 hour pull from Little Rock, in 3rd. Eric Stanton from Hartford and Adam Hagen from Des Moines rounded out the top 5.

In Hobby Stock feature #2 it was Carl Knight leading lap 1 but he would be pased by Dustin Griffith from Ottumwa on lap 2 but Shannon Anderson would chase down Griffith when Knight experience troubles. Anderson would make the pass for the lead coming to the white flag and end up going on to taking the win with Griffith in 2nd. Donavon Nunnikhoven from Sully was 3rd, Richard Yaw and John Watson, both from Des Moines was 4th and 5th respectively.

Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks were up next for their 20 lap feature. Bret Moyer would take the early race lead but on lap 6 Moyer would make contact with another trucj and it cut the tire down on Moyer's truck. So that handed the lead over to Tony Moro. Moro and the field would get 3 more laps in before the caution came out again. Moro still continue to lead and until after the last caution on lap 15. Brad Moyer would make the pass on Moro to lead on lap 17 and 18 but Moro would get back by Brad Moyer to take the win. Ed Nelson, Carl Moyer and Bret Moyer would round out the top 5.

Next up was the IMCA Stock Car 15 lap feature and it was the "Terminator" Mark Elliott taking the race lead and nothing would deny him the race including the 2 cautions on lap 3, caution on lap 4, 7 and 13. The top 3 was Elliott, Dopler and Jeff Wollam until lap 13 when Wollam experience troubles. Elliott took the win with Blaine Dopler from Wapello in 2nd, "Chelsea Charger" Damon Murty was 3rd, Mike Nichols from Harlan was 4th and Justin Temeyer rounded out the top 5.

IMCA Sport Mods were up next and before 1 lap could be completed several cars would get together in turn 2. On the restart though it was Bryon Weyer from Des Moines taking the lead but just after lap 1 was completed the caution came out for debris in turn 1. Weyer again would resume command and would have to do battle with "Big Ticket"Andy Tiernan from Woodward for awhile and then later Austin Kaplan from Des Moines would try too but it would all be denied as Weyer took the win with Kaplan in 2nd. Cayden Carter from Oskaloosa in 3rd, Carter Van Den Berg also from Oskaloosa was 4th, Jesse Sobbing would come back and finish 5th after getting involved in the early wreck.

The final feature of the night was the Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Model 35 lap feature. Brian Harris would take the early lead but he would bobble on lap 11 which would allow Tom Darbyshire make the pass and take the lead. The first race caution came out on lap 14 for debris in turn 1. The 2nd caution came out on lap 31 when Andy Eckrich would have troubles in turn 2. Darbyshire still remained in command but would now have Todd Cooney and Harris right there but he would hold them off this time but a lap later the caution would come out again. That didn't bother Darbyshire as he was able to hold them off and take the win, Cooney took 2nd, Harris was 3rd, Jeff Aikey was 4th and Colby Springsteen was 5th.

The final checkered flag waved at 11pm putting and end to a great night of racing. Thanks to Mick & Angel Trier, Wally, Tim Trier, Bucky Doren, Jerry Van Sickel, Debbie Sweeney, Mary Brown, Bob Moses for the great job you all did all night and the entire staff of the Iowa State Fair for making it happen every year. Hennigar, Carter, Fee, Meyer and Truman all winners on New Hope Christian Church/J&V Napa Auto Parts Night

It was a beautiful friday night in Marshalltown as New Hope Christian Church and J&V Napa Auto Parts brought us a great night of racing action on the high banked quarter mile.

Before the features we would have the youngsters coming to the track for their Cardboard Car Races where we split it up in to 4 groups.

Once that was complete it was time for the first feature of the night which would be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites for 15 laps. After the caution for debris force a complete restart it was Jeff Stensland taking the lead on lap 1 but it was Tim Hennigar making the pass and not look back even another caution came out on lap 6. Tim Hennigar would go on and take his 3rd feature event of the year with Josh May took 2nd, Mike Morrill was 3rd, Randy Bryan was 4th and James May came home 5th.

Toby K's Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks was up next and it was veteran Randy Embery taking the lead and he would start to pull away and nothing seem to slow Embery down including the 2 race cautions. Embrey would cross the line in first but in post race tech inspection he was disqualifed for not having the proper weight needed. So the win would be handed over to Kevin Fee. Devin Smith, Eric Knutson, Michael Murphy and Eric Larson rounded out the top 5.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods feature it was Brett Lowry back driving his car taking the early lead and just after 1 lap was scored the caution would fly for Zack Rawlins after he hit the front stretch wall hard damaging the race car. Lowry still resumed command and look as if he would pull away with the win despite the final race caution on lap 8 but Cayden Carter would chase him down and make the pass coming to the white flag. Carter would take the win his 5th on friday nights, Lowry would end up 2nd. Racer Hulin, Jenae Gustin and Scott Davis would finish 3rd through 5th.

Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Car feature saw Steve Meyer take the lead early and look to be pulling away with the lead but the caution came out on lap 3. Meyer would resume command but have company, Jay Schmidt would take the lead on lap 8 but Schmidt's lead was short lived as Meyer got by as Schmidt experienced mechanical issues. Meyer would go on and take the win, his 2nd of the year at Marshalltown. Tracy Gienger, Trent Murphy, Jeff Wollam and Damon Murty would round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds it was Josh Truman taking the early lead then the caution would come out on lap 3 and 4. Truman still remained out front but the rest of the race, he would have to deal with Richie Gustin and Jimmy Gustin for the top spot. Truman would hold off both challenges and take the win, Richie Gustin finished 2nd with Jimmy Gustin in 3rd. Danny Fetters and Scott Simatovich would end up 4th and 5th.

Final checkered flew at 9:55p putting an end to another great night of racing. Next Friday Night we are back at it as Rouse Motor Dodge of Grundy Center will give fans the opportunity to test drive a new Dodge. Also it will be the rescheduled Cliff Chambers Memorial Night and the Nostalgia Cars are scheduled to make an appearance.

Stenhouse wins again at Iowa Speedway

The final weekend of racing at Iowa Speedway took place over the weekend. It started on Friday Night with the Sandvik Coromant 150 presented by Cline Tools wheere it was Jeff Choquette from South Beach, Florida taking the win.

On Saturday though it was the return of the NASCAR Nationwide Series for the U.S. Cellular 250 presented by Enlist Weed Control System. Elliott Sadler would get the pole, Trevor Baybe would take the lead from Sadler though on lap 1. Sam Hornish Jr would make the pass and take the lead from Bayne on lap 13.

The first race caution came out on lap 24 for debris in turn 4. Hornish Jr, who was filling in for Brad Keselowski would remain out front until the next caution on lap 49. This caution came out for Jamie Dick getting in to the wall in turn 4 and then running into Eric McClure.

The leaders would all make pit stops which would hand the lead over to Michael McDowell. MCDoweell would lead until lap 69 when Carl Edwards would get by and lead. Edwards would continue to lead until lap 100 when Ricky Stenhouse Jr would get by but a lap later the caution came out again. This caution was for Mike Wallace im turn 2.

Again the leaders would pit so the lead would be handed to Jeremy Clements, Clements would lead 2 laps and then pit himself and hand the lead over to David Mayhew. When the race got going on lap 106, Mayhew would get passed by Carl Edwards.

Carl Edwards would lead until lap 154 when Ricky Stenhouse Jr took the lead, shortly after that the caution came out for debris in turn 4. Stenhouse Jr would give the lead back to Carl Ewards after pit stops. Edwards would remain out front until lap 185 when another caution came out for debris on the frontstretch.

Mayhew would get the lead on lap 186 but it was Des Moines Native Michael Annett would hold the lead until lap 187. Elliott Sadler would take the lead away from Annett on the restart.

The final race caution came out on lap 220 for Blake Koch hitting the turn 2 wall and then hitting the inside wall on the backstretch. On the restart on lap 227, Sadler would remain out front but 2 laps later he would be passed by Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

It looked as if Stenshouse was pulling away to the win but with a few laps to go, he began to experience some troubles with his Ford Mustang and on the last lap we would find out why. Coming off turn 4, Stenhouse would see the motor expire and lay oil on the racing surface and Carl Edwards would try to avoid him but the cloud of smoke and oil on the track forced Edwards to run into Stenhouse and push him across the line for the win. Both cars were damage but it was Stenhouse taking the win, Edwards 2nd. Elliott Sadler, Josh Wise and Aric Almirola rounding out the top 5. Reed Sorenson, Kenny Wallace, Steve Wallace, Michael McDowell and David Mayhew finish 6th through 10th.

That put an end to the racing action at Iowa Speedway for 2011, check out http://www.iowaspeedway.com/ for the 2012 schedule once its figured out.
