Guss takes the Deery Show win at Highway 3 Raceway

Well the night brought 5 classes in action to take to the big half mile race track the Highway 3 Raceway in Allison. A night that might be questionable if it would happen or not but the highway 3 raceway track crew didn't panic they moved right along rather quickly to keep the show moving to prevent mother nature from winning and it worked out just fine. The night's sponsor was Lincoln Savings Bank.
First out on the track was the Stock Cars for their 12 lap feature, only 8 cars signed in so the top 4 in the heat race would redraw for position. Tory Reicks jumped out to the lead from his pole starting spot and lead the first lap but after the completion of the lap, the caution came out for Ryan Leeman stopping in turn 1 after trying to avoid hitting Arlin Hoy, who was trying to go to the infield. Hoy would pull in to the infield, Leeman would exit off the back stretch. Reicks brought the field back to green and he would go on to the win with Mitch Hovden in 2nd, Cody Henkes in 3rd, Jake Ludeking in 4th and Mike Wiemann in 5th. Heat winner was Reicks.

Gustins Finish 1 and 2 at Marshalltown

Friday night would start out like normal friday night, perfect weather not a cloud in the sky, a pit area packed with race cars that include a few out of staters. The night would change fast because 45 minutes into the show with the dwarf car, sport mods and stock car heats in the book mother nature would give us liquid sunshine. To most promotors it would end the night but for promotor Toby Kruse it would not. He figured they just took a 2 hour and 5 minute rain delay working on getting the track back into excellent shape for the drivers, the fans and drivers were willing to wait it out. He stated its just like going to a baseball game and continuing right were they left off.
After the track was worked back in they ran an additional hot lap session for the modifieds and stock cars and switched the hobby stocks and modified heats around but it was good and the track was only better come feature time.
First up was the Dwarf Car/Mod Lite Division for their 15 lap feautre event. Pole Sitter Joel Huggins would jump to the early race lead but would have to fight off Randy Bryan. Bryan made the pass on Huggins on lap 3. The first caution came out on lap 6 when Josh May, Troy Hudson, Johnny Mordock and Mike Kennedy getting together in turn 2. Bryan would lead still but on lap 8, Huggins would make the pass for the lead again. The 2nd caution came out on lap 9 when Tim Hennigar spun in the top of turn 1. The final caution came out on lap 10 for debris on the frontstretch. Huggins would maintain the lead and go on for the win. Andy Hennigar would finish 2nd, Bryan was 3rd, Mike Morrill was 4th and Jimmy May was 5th.
The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods would have 33 cars sign in the pits so that means 4 heats and a b-feature to determine the field for the 15 lap feature. Kyle Brown would lead the first 7 laps before he lost the lead to 14 Year Old Young Gun from Newton Jake Strayer. 4 Cautions came out throughout the feature: lap 1 for Neil Follett and Geoff Olson make contact in turn 4, lap 3 for Chad Nelson from Wisconsin in the wall on the frontstretch, lap 9 for debris and lap 12 for Scott Jorpeland, Adam Shelman and Ryan Engelkes in turn 2. Strayer would go on and win, Kevin Sather would come home in 2nd, Luke Wanninger makes his return back to the race track and finished 3rd, Scott Davis finished 4th and Brown would follow back to finish 5th.
Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars would be up next for 18 laps. Clay Deppe would jump to the lead and hold on to the top spot until lap 7. Through that time there was 2 cautions, first on lap 5 when Steve Meyer, Rob Schneider, Rick Brown and Trevor Titus get together on the front stretch and then the next one on lap 6 when Trent Murphy went off the top of turn 2. Deppe would be passed by Jeff Wollam on lap 8 and Wollam would go on to the victory but would have to hold off challenges by Michael Jeannette and Dustin Smith and a caution on lap 11 for Joe Luethje in turn 4 when he lost a left rear tire. Wollam would be followed across the finish line by Jeannette, Smith, Deppe and Tracy Gienger.
Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds would come out for their 20 lap feautre event next. Kyle Krampe would take the lead. The first caution would come out on lap 2 when Ronn Laurtizen, Jon Snyder and Duane Peterson would get together in turn 4, Krampe still was the leader. Krampe would be passed by Jacob Murray on lap 4. The next caution came out on lap 12 when Krampe and Adam Larson get together in turn 2. Richie Gustin would pass Murray for the lead on lap 15. Gustin would have to hold challenges from Murray, Scott Hogan and his brother Jimmy Gustin. Richie would go on to the win, Jimmy would end up 2nd making a 1-2 finish for the brothers. Behind the gustin brothers would Scott Hogan, Jacob Murray and Jay Schmidt.
The final feature of the night was the 12 lap Junction Bar and Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks . Before 1 lap would be completed there was 2 cautions, the first one was because of John Schuring, Clint Nelson, Nic Shearer and Wes Stanek Jr get together in turn 2 and the 2nd one was because Josh Saunders and Michael Murphy in turn 2. When racing got goin Dylan Book would take the lead, he would lead the first 2 laps but lose it to Todd Reitzler. Reitzler goes on to the win despite a caution on lap 7 for Nic Shearer on the back stretch. Reitzler takes the win, Devin Smith, Eric Knutson, Dustin Elliott and Michael Murphy ran out the top 5.
The Final Checkered Flag fell at midnight. This Friday Night will be Hy-Vee Night plus the Modified Gambler Race.

The plan this week for me is the Harris Clash on Tuesday, Deery Show at Highway 3 on Wednesday, Hy-Vee Night at Marshalltown and The Nationwide Series at the Iowa Speedway.

A Chilly Aaron's Fair Night at the Marshalltown Speedway

It was friday night at the Central Iowa Fair, it was also Aaron's Night at the Races with Kids bike races. You would have thought it to be the frostbuster all over again because it was a chilly night at the races but it brought great racing action on the fastest quarter mile the marshalltown speedway. Promotor Toby Kruse, who was just getting back from the dakota modified classic tour in north dakota to promote his weekly friday night racing action said he would take a chilly cloudy night at the races then a rainy night at the races.
On the night which saw one hundred and twenty race teams sign in to compete, they would have a near perfect race track. This night would bring some repeat winners and one first time winner at the marshalltown speedway.
Before the features would roll out they would have the kids bike races and then a little hot lap session for the pit bikes, quads and motorcycles which were scheduled to race on saturday at the central iowa fair.
Dwarf Car/Mod Lites were up first for their 15 lap feature, there was 20 cars that signed in. Joel Huggins would jump to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and go on to the win despite having to do battle with Johnny Mordock, Mike Morrill and Tim Hennigar and 1 caution which came out on lap 4 when Ryan Mills and Bryan Zehm got together in turns 3 and 4. For Huggins this would be his 2nd career win and his 1st win at Marshalltown. Mordock would come home 2nd followed by Point Leader Mike Morrill, Tim Hennigar and Jimmy May
Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods saw 27 cars sign in so that meant 4 heats and a b-feature was used to get the field down to 24 cars. When the 15 Lap Feature rolled on the race track, Joel Rust took the race lead from his outside front row starting spot on lap 1 but he was passed by 3rd place starter Paul Nagle on lap 2. Nagle would hold on that spot through 2 cautions on lap 4 and 5. the first caution on lap 4 was for Adam Shelman spinning in turns 3 and 4 and the second caution on lap 5 was for Jenae Gustin spinning out in turn 1. Nagle hung on but Scott Davis was working through the field. Davis would pass Nagle on lap 14 and go on to the win, his 2nd of the season at marshalltown. Nagle finished 2nd, Last Weeks Feature Winner Brad Iverson was 3rd, Track Point Leader Kevin Sather was 4th and Geoff Olson was 5th.
The Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars was next up on Aaron's Night at the Central Iowa Fair, they had 21 cars sign in, 20 of those cars took the green flag in the 18 lap feature. Rob Schneider would jump to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and lead the first 4 laps before handing the lead over to Trent Murphy. A couple of cautions would come out both for debris, first one on lap 9 and the second one on lap 16 setting up a green-white-checkered. Murphy would have to hold off challenges by Dustin Smith and Jeff Wollam the final 2 laps. Murphy took the win, Smith and Wollam was 2nd and 3rd. Following Murphy,Smith and Wollam was Rob Schneider, getting his best finish of the season and "The Flying Deuce" Dave Atcher.
Up Next was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds for their 20 lap feature, they 18 cars sign in to the pit area to compete. "The Iceman" Scott Hogan would take the lead from the outside front row starting spot, it would appear he was going to take the win until the only race caution came out on lap 14 when Jacob Murray shot off of turn 4 and when in to the pit fence, he was okay and nobody got hurt. On the restart, Hogan would have Adam Larson, Jon Snyder and Jay Schmidt right behind. Larson would pass Hogan for the lead and go on to the win, Hogan would end up following back to 4th by the end as Team Harris would finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd with Larson taking the win, Snyder in 2nd, Schmidt in 3rd. Kyle Krampe would round out the top 5.
Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their 12 lap feature, all 27 cars that signed in would start the a feature. This time it would see the pole sitter Nick Murty jump to the early race lead. the first caution would come out on lap 2 when Jake Nelson spun in turn 2. Reitzler won with Stanton in 2nd, following them was Dylan Book, Eric Knutson and Brandon Pruitt.
The Last Event of the Night was the Sport Mod Gambler, where the entrys would have to throw a $25 in to the pot. 7 drivers did so that meant $175 to win for 8 laps with the winner take all. Scott Davis would lead the race from start to finish to add to his winnings on the evening. Behind Davis was Paul Nagle, Kyle Brown, Geoff Olson, Shawn Hunter, Joel Bushore and Tom Burke.
