Gustins Finish 1 and 2 at Marshalltown

Friday night would start out like normal friday night, perfect weather not a cloud in the sky, a pit area packed with race cars that include a few out of staters. The night would change fast because 45 minutes into the show with the dwarf car, sport mods and stock car heats in the book mother nature would give us liquid sunshine. To most promotors it would end the night but for promotor Toby Kruse it would not. He figured they just took a 2 hour and 5 minute rain delay working on getting the track back into excellent shape for the drivers, the fans and drivers were willing to wait it out. He stated its just like going to a baseball game and continuing right were they left off.
After the track was worked back in they ran an additional hot lap session for the modifieds and stock cars and switched the hobby stocks and modified heats around but it was good and the track was only better come feature time.
First up was the Dwarf Car/Mod Lite Division for their 15 lap feautre event. Pole Sitter Joel Huggins would jump to the early race lead but would have to fight off Randy Bryan. Bryan made the pass on Huggins on lap 3. The first caution came out on lap 6 when Josh May, Troy Hudson, Johnny Mordock and Mike Kennedy getting together in turn 2. Bryan would lead still but on lap 8, Huggins would make the pass for the lead again. The 2nd caution came out on lap 9 when Tim Hennigar spun in the top of turn 1. The final caution came out on lap 10 for debris on the frontstretch. Huggins would maintain the lead and go on for the win. Andy Hennigar would finish 2nd, Bryan was 3rd, Mike Morrill was 4th and Jimmy May was 5th.
The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods would have 33 cars sign in the pits so that means 4 heats and a b-feature to determine the field for the 15 lap feature. Kyle Brown would lead the first 7 laps before he lost the lead to 14 Year Old Young Gun from Newton Jake Strayer. 4 Cautions came out throughout the feature: lap 1 for Neil Follett and Geoff Olson make contact in turn 4, lap 3 for Chad Nelson from Wisconsin in the wall on the frontstretch, lap 9 for debris and lap 12 for Scott Jorpeland, Adam Shelman and Ryan Engelkes in turn 2. Strayer would go on and win, Kevin Sather would come home in 2nd, Luke Wanninger makes his return back to the race track and finished 3rd, Scott Davis finished 4th and Brown would follow back to finish 5th.
Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars would be up next for 18 laps. Clay Deppe would jump to the lead and hold on to the top spot until lap 7. Through that time there was 2 cautions, first on lap 5 when Steve Meyer, Rob Schneider, Rick Brown and Trevor Titus get together on the front stretch and then the next one on lap 6 when Trent Murphy went off the top of turn 2. Deppe would be passed by Jeff Wollam on lap 8 and Wollam would go on to the victory but would have to hold off challenges by Michael Jeannette and Dustin Smith and a caution on lap 11 for Joe Luethje in turn 4 when he lost a left rear tire. Wollam would be followed across the finish line by Jeannette, Smith, Deppe and Tracy Gienger.
Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds would come out for their 20 lap feautre event next. Kyle Krampe would take the lead. The first caution would come out on lap 2 when Ronn Laurtizen, Jon Snyder and Duane Peterson would get together in turn 4, Krampe still was the leader. Krampe would be passed by Jacob Murray on lap 4. The next caution came out on lap 12 when Krampe and Adam Larson get together in turn 2. Richie Gustin would pass Murray for the lead on lap 15. Gustin would have to hold challenges from Murray, Scott Hogan and his brother Jimmy Gustin. Richie would go on to the win, Jimmy would end up 2nd making a 1-2 finish for the brothers. Behind the gustin brothers would Scott Hogan, Jacob Murray and Jay Schmidt.
The final feature of the night was the 12 lap Junction Bar and Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks . Before 1 lap would be completed there was 2 cautions, the first one was because of John Schuring, Clint Nelson, Nic Shearer and Wes Stanek Jr get together in turn 2 and the 2nd one was because Josh Saunders and Michael Murphy in turn 2. When racing got goin Dylan Book would take the lead, he would lead the first 2 laps but lose it to Todd Reitzler. Reitzler goes on to the win despite a caution on lap 7 for Nic Shearer on the back stretch. Reitzler takes the win, Devin Smith, Eric Knutson, Dustin Elliott and Michael Murphy ran out the top 5.
The Final Checkered Flag fell at midnight. This Friday Night will be Hy-Vee Night plus the Modified Gambler Race.

The plan this week for me is the Harris Clash on Tuesday, Deery Show at Highway 3 on Wednesday, Hy-Vee Night at Marshalltown and The Nationwide Series at the Iowa Speedway.
