Lettow, Elston and Rain at the Harris Clash

The 18th Annual Harris Clash was scheduled to be on Tuesday and Wednesday July 7th and 8th with the possible rain date of Thursday July 9th.
On Tuesday Night july 7th, mother nature thought she had to make her presences know because after the draw closed, line ups posted and the 1st half of the modifieds did wheel packing mother nature rained out the lst night of the clash.
What was suppose to be night #2 of the clash on Wednesday July 8th turned out to be the 1st night of the clash with the IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models. On this night 59 Sport Mods signed in and 47 Late Models signed in.
First up on this night was the IMCA Sport Mods. 6 Heats and 3 B Features would set the field for the 24 car 15 Lap A Feature. Matt Lettow from Roland would take the lead on lap 1 but would be passed on lap 2 by Austin Kaplan from Ankeny. Lettow would regain the lead on lap 3 and Kaplan would stay close reach, meanwhile Cousin Kevin Sather from Ankeny was moving forward. The first caution came out on lap 6 when Jared Timmerman spun in turn 3. The second caution came out on lap 10 when Brian Miller lost a rear spring in turn 1. Lettow kept the lead, Kaplan 2nd and Sather 3rd after the lap 10 caution. Sather made a pass on Kaplan and tried to pass Lettow for the lead but failed. Lettow took the win and $500, Sather in 2nd ($400), Kaplan in 3rd ($300), Nate Chodur from Lake Mills was 4th ($250) and Brett Moffitt was 5th ($200).
Last on the night was the IMCA Late Models from their 30 cars, 35 laps feature. It took 5 Heats, 2 B Features, 2 Deery Provisionals and a Hard Charger Provisional to determine the field. Jason Frankel of Quincy, IL started on the ple and took the lead right from the start and held on to the top sport until a restart on lap 5 after a caution. The caution was because of Tyler Bruening and Barry Sorenson getting together in turn 3. On the restart, Frankel was passed by Jeff Aikey, who was battling with Frankel the first 5 laps. Aikey held on to the top spot despite challenges from Frankel. The final caution came out on lap 32 when Jon Merfeld spun in turn 2. On the restart, Tommy Elston of Keokuk passed Frankel for 2nd and then the next lap passed Aikey for the lead. Elston picked up the $2000 to win, Aikey came home 2nd, Frankel was 3rd, Fred Remley and Rob Toland was 4th and 5th.
On Thursday night July 9th was suppose to make up the rain out from Tuesday but mother nature was victorius again so the Modified portion of the Harris Clash will be ran on Tuesday July 28th.
