Smidt, Wise, Fett and Parsons End Winless Droughts in Britt

As Summer has finally arrived the heat and humidity comes along meaning track crews have to stay ahead. Friday Night the Hancock County Speedway did exactly that as once again, John Pletcher and track prep crew prepared an amazing racing surface. Seventy-five cars signed in on Stellar Industries Inc and Stellar Truck & Trailer Night.

Racing fans were thrilled with exciting two, three and four wide racing through out the night with several races coming down to the checkers. The Best race of the night was in the IMCA Hobby Stocks, Tony Smidt finally took the win. Other first time winners this season in Britt was JJ Wise (Modifieds), Colby Fett (Sport Mods) and Lucas Parsons (Sport Compacts).

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts 10 lap feature event. Lucas Parsons jumped out to the race lead but just after one lap was scored the caution came out when Max Heimbuch put his car in the wall exiting turn four. Parsons knew Oliver Monson had to be close but Parsons held off Monson to take the win. Monson finished second, Brad "Unicorn" Mayland finished third, Ken Winkowitsch finished fourth and Jade Lange was fifth.

Up next was the House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event.  Autum Anderson led the first six laps until a caution came out when Nate Whitehurst spun in turn four. That incident also collected Drew Fett, Nate Albrant and Kent Haugland. On the restart, Anderson had to contend with Doug Cook and Colby Fett. Cook wrestled the lead away but the caution came out again on lap eight for Alissa Palsrok getting in the wall exiting turn four. That restart was what Colby Fett needed as he was able to get past Cook. Fett held off Cook to take his first win in Britt this season. Cook finished a strong second ahead of Alec Fett, George Nordman and Anderson.

David Wickman took the early race lead in the Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature event. The first caution came out on lap two for Kyle Rose in turn four. Wickman had Chanse Hollatz and Kevin Opheim on his back bumper on the restart but held them until just after completing lap four, Wickman gets sideways going into turn three spins meanwhile Dan Mackenthun slides off the top of turn three. That handed the race lead over to Heath Tulp. Tulp got a great restart and the only thing slowing him down was the cauiton on lap eight when Kelly Shryock made contact with Kevin Opheim in turn two. That caution also collected Chad Palmer, Chanse Hollatz and Andrew Lokenvitz. Tulp got a great restart and cruised to win number two in Britt. Tenth place starter Rick Mees finished second, Shryock worked his way back up to finish third, Eleventh place starter Calvin Lange was fourth and Andrew Borchardt was fifth.

Blaine Hanson and Tony Smidt led the field to the green on the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature. Smidt grabbed the lead early but he knew it was not going to be easy, that was very true. Smidt had challenges from Brandon Nielson, Cory Probst, Drew Barglof and Josh Sidles through out the race but he held tough in the only feature that went green-to-checkered caution free. Smidt took a hard fought first win in several years at the Hancock County Speedway by .091 secs over Brandon Nielsen. Probst, Barglof and Sidles rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event. "Racing Auctioneer" JJ Wise has lead a few times this season but let it slip away but Friday Night, he was determined to not let that happen. The first caution came out on lap two when Bryce Summers spun in turn two and second caution came out when Nick Meyer came to a stop on the back stretch.  Wise held off Troy Swearingend and Austin Wolf on the restart and held off Wolf several times before the final race caution on lap eighteen for Swearingen and Cody Laney got together in turn two. Wise held off Wolf and twelveth place starter Joel Rust to take his first win since 2014. Wolf finished second, Rust was third, Kelly Shryock was fourth and Jeremy Mills was fifth.

Logue Nabs The Northern Sport Mod Nationals for the Second Time

Mother Nature made the Hancock County Speedway wait one week to get the MaxYield Seed Northern Sport Mod Nationals in but the racing action did not disappoint everybody in attendance or everybody watching online on IMCATV. The Night was also sponsored by Croplan by Winfield, DeKalb Asgrow, Latham Hi-Tech Seeds and LG Seeds in partenship with MaxYield Cooperative.

One Hundred and three cars checked including 48 IMCA Northern Sport Mods. Eighteen MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks, Eighteen IMCA Modifieds and Nineteen Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars was also on hand. Kelly Shryock and Johnathon Logue dominated in their feature wins meanwhile Drew Barglof and Austin Wolf used a late race pass to take the checkers first.

First feature of the night was the Quick Performance 15 lap feature event, Parker Slagle and Kelly Shryock led the field to the green flag. Shryock jumped out to the lead early however third row starters Derek Green and Randy Brands worked their way up and began to battle with Shryock for the race lead just before the caution came out on lap seven when Wayne Landheer spun in turn four. Shryock held off Green and Brands until the caution came out again on lap eleven. Shryock was not going to be denied his third win of the season in the Stock Cars at the Hancock County Speedway as he held off Green for the win. Green finished second, Heath Tulp wrestled third away from Brands. Brands and Kevin Opheim finished fourth and fifth respectively. Jake Masters, Tulp and Green won the heat races.

In the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, a pair of cautions came out before one lap was scored in the books. First caution was for James Burns in turn two and then again on the initial restart for Jace Hanson in turn four. Malik Sampson jumped out to the race lead when the race was final able to get underway but the caution came out again on lap three for Burns in turn two. Sampson looked to be heading on to the win until Cody Nielsen and Drew Barglof chase him down and began to make it a three car battle for the lead. Sampson and Nielsen made contact allowing Barglof to edged ahead on the lap 12. Nielsen nosed ahead of Barglof and Sampson coming to the white flag. They exited turn four three wide as they crossed the start finish line with Barglof winning by a nose at the line. Sampson finished a close second and Nielsen was a close third. Justin Luinenburg and twelveth place starter Brandon Nielsen was fourth and fifth. Cody Nielsen, Luinenberg and Barglof took the heat race wins.

Caution flag came out before a lap scored in the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event when Lyle Sathoff, Josh Ruby and Jason Asbe got together in turn two. Ben Schultze grabbed the early race lead but the caution came out again on lap two for Cody Knecht in turn four. Schultze had racing veterans Kelly Shryock and Al Hejna on his back bumper on the restart. Shryock grabbed the top spot away and appeared to be heading on to double up but ninth place starter Austin Wolf made his way up to chase down Shryock. Shryock left the door open and Wolf took advantage to grab the lead away exiting turn four on lap 17. Wolf pulled away and cruised on to take the win. Wolf said in victory lane, "Kelly Shryock probably has more starts then days i've been alive." Shryock was second, Hejna was third, tenth place starter Jeremy Mills was fourth and Schultze fell back to fifth.

Final feature of the night was the headliner, 30 lap MaxYield SEED Northern Sport Mod Nationals feature event for the House Motorsports Sport Mods. Nate Whitehurst wrestled the lead away early from Johnathon Logue but the caution came out on lap two when Matthew Looft came to a stop in turn two because his hood came up blocking his view. Whitehurst continued to lead until Logue grabbed the top spot away on lap six. Logue began to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap ten for Hays, Kansas Dakota Sproul sitting on the bottom side of turn four. Logue began to pull away was never really challenged despite Brayton Carter and ninth place starter Jared Boumeester chasing him down. Logue went on to take his second win of the season in Britt and his second Northern Sport Mod Nationals feature win, only the second driver to win multiple times, last time Logue won was in 2016. Carter, Boumeester, Jake McBirnie and Jim Chisholm round out the top five. Doug Cook, McBirnie, Sproul, Logue, Carter and Whitehurst took heat race wins. Cam Reimers and Colby Fett won the Last Chance Qualifers and Logue took the Dash. LG Seeds Hard Charger was Jamie Anderson moving up twelve spots.

Hancock County Speedway Officials were forced to make the tough decision to cancel the Friday Night Races on Kraus Racing and Hancock County Snowmobile Association Night at the Speedway. The late friday morning rain along with the strong possibly of heavy rain late afternoon and evening in the forecast was the cause of cancellation.

Next up is the rescheduled date for the MaxYield Cooperative Northern Sport Mod Nationals on Tuesday Night (June 25th), where the winner of the House Motorsports IMCA Northern SportMods will take home $2,500 to win on June 25th. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not nice to the Hancock County Speedway as she dropped more rain overnight Monday leaving the grounds to wet to get the track in shape to race on Tuesday Night for the MaxYield Cooperative Northern Sport Mod Nationals. Longnecker Makes It Three In a Row at Sports Park Raceway

On Saturday, I had planned to go racing somewhere since I felt a lot better but as the day moved along the weather was becoming unfavorable even though the Knoxville Raceway so how got their races in this weekend. Maybe I should have gone to Knoxville on Saturday but I stayed home.

Saturday Afternoon got a message from Sports Park Raceway Track Promoter Jason Vansickel asking me if there was any chance I could announce on Sunday Night. He knew I work in Vinton on Sunday so I immediately texted Mick Trier asked if he would be okay if I went and filled in at Sports Park Raceway. Mick Replied said that he was fine with going to Fort Dodge and announcing.

Sunday Night made the hour and half trip to the Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge, got things all hooked up and going before heading over to the pit side to watch drivers check in at the pit shack for the fourth night of racing, third week of weekly racing at the race track hit in a rock quarry. Seventy-Nine cars signed into race on the 1/2 mile race track including 20 IMCA Modifieds, 15 IMCA Stock Cars, 14 IMCA Sport Mods, 19 IMCA Hobby Stocks and 11 IMCA Sport Compacts.

One question going in was how much rain the race track got on Saturday, the answer was very little however the downtown got more rain. Another question was could drivers Shane DeMey (Modifeds), Reid Keller (Stock Cars) and Hunter Longnecker (Sport Mods) make it 3 for 3 on weekly racing? Answer is one of them did pretty sure you can figure out by the title of the Recap.

First feature of the night was the 10 lap IMCA Sport Compacts main event. Before a lap was completed Brad "Unicorn" Mayland spun on the back stretch bringing the caution out. After the complete restart, John Gill from Marshalltown grabbed the early race lead before Jade Lange stole the lead away on lap three. Lange lost the lead to Gill on lap five but they continued to battle it before it came a three car battle when RJ Esqueda entered his name in the battle. Gill held on to take the win ahead of Esqueda, who finished second ahead of Lange. Mayland finished fourth and Mick Evans was fifth.

Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature saw the caution come out when Danny Sassman Jr looped in front of the field in turn four coming to complete lap one. Drew Barglof and Jayden Glenn make contact with each other, that resulted in their bumpers get hooked. On the restart, Riley Crimmins jumped out front and led the first three laps before Jeff Fink worked his way up to grab the lead away on lap four. Fink cruised on to the easy win, finally getting over the hump at Sports Park Raceway in 2019 because he has finish second the previous two races. Last week's winner Bryce Sommerfeld finished in second. Eighth place starter Greg Sidles, Crimmins and Nineteenth place starter Rylan Boland rounded out the top five.

Scrap Processors IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature was up next and after having to remove a turtle from the race track, yes I said turtle, it was green flag racing. Matt Groll jumped out to the lead and looked comfortable until Hunter Longnecker worked his way from seventh to the lead on lap ten. The caution came out on lap 11 when a cone was knocked up on to the racing surface by Justin Patterson. The caution again came out on the restart for debris on the front stretch. Longnecker paced the field the remaining four laps to take his third win in a row. Tenth place starter Jake McBirnie chase down Longnecker but could not make the pass, finished second. Tim Judd finished third, Brandon Toftee was fourth and David Calmer was fifth.

Andy Jones led the first two laps of the Silgan Containers IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature. Jeff Deal wrestled the lead away on lap three just before the caution came out for Calvin Lange sitting on the back stretch. Deal lost the lead on the restart to Bill Crimmins. Crimmins went on to take the win ahead of Tyler Pickett, Deal, Jeff Lyon and twelveth place starter Joel Tigges.

Final feature of the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modifieds feature. Ryan Griffith started on the pole and jumped out to a sizeable lead until Ethan Dotson reeled him just before the halfway point. Griffith nearly lost the lead to Dotson on lap ten but the caution came out for Bryce Summers spinning in turn four. Griffith held off Dotson on the restart and looked to be heading on to the win. Dotson made the right move going in turn one just after the white flag and grabbed the lead from Griffith. Dotson went on to take the win ahead of Griffith, who led 19 1/4 laps. Jeff James, Kelly Shryock and Shane DeMey finished third through fifth respectively.

Sports Park Raceway will be back at next sunday night June 23rd when the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks and Points Leader, Fort Dodge's Myles Michehl make a visit. Also racing will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Gates Open at 4pm, Hot Laps at 6pm and Racing to Follow.

For more information about the Sports Park Raceway check out  Sports Park Raceway on Facebook.

Thanks Jason Vansickel and the entire staff at Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge for asking me to come fill in behind the microphone last night, it was alot of fun. The hospitality is second to none when it comes to you all. I certainly plan to make a visit or two when Vinton is off, June 30th and July 7th most likely with camera to take some pictures and write another blog recap.

Hejna First Win in 10 Years, Curry Wins Final Tune Up in the Sport Mods in Britt

For the first time in a long time I hate to miss a race night because of not feeling very good and last night was one of those nights. I had to miss racing at the Hancock County Speedway in Britt for Hiscocks Night at the Races. So to leave with nothing to read about from the races in Britt last night I was able to follow through the myracepass app.

IMCA Modifieds...."A-Train" Al Hejna hasn't been actively participating in racing that last few years, decided in the off season to give up co-promoting duties at the Mason City Motor Speedway to go racing again. Last night, Hejna took a heat race win and his first feature win in 10 years. A lot has changed for Hejna as he has a new car, new crew chief, and new things to learn before the Season 4 of Dirt Knights gets back in full swing next month. Aaron Benson, Ryan Ruter, Austin Wolf and Points Leader Jeremy Mills finished second through fifth. Ruter was the other heat race winner.

House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods....Gerald Curry has been fighting gremlins most of the year at the Hancock County Speedway well last night, that all changed as he made to victory lane. Ninth place starter Colby Fett finished second for the fourth time this year in Britt. George Nordman moved up from tenth to finish third. Three-time MaxYield Northern Sport Mods Winner Nate Chodur finished fourth in the final tune up and Jamie Anderson finished fifth.

Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars.....Kelly Shryock took win number two in the Lake Mills Motorsports number three stock car. Troy Swearingen finished second, Chad Palmer finished third, Heath Tulp in fourth and Kevin Opheim was fifth.

MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks.....Zack Smidt picked up the feature win ahead of Josh Sidles, Cory Probst, Tony Smidt and James Burns.

IMCA Sport Compacts......Max Heimbuch past Jade Lange and Oliver Monson to claim his first win of the season. Lange finished second and Monson finished third. Brad "Unicorn" Mayland making his season debut finished in the fourth spot ahead of Marshalltown's John Gill.

Vintage Cars was also on hand last night but I do not no how many cars where there or who won as I was at home sick. The notes above was from following along on MyRacePass App during the features.

Hancock County Speedway continues its 25th Anniversary Season on Tuesday June 18th with the MaxYield SEED Northern Sport Mod Nationals takes the speedway. Elliott, Smith, Efkamp, McBirnie, Knutson, Kennedy and Davis Win In Boone

The decision was made Saturday Morning, that I would make the trip over to the Boone Speedway for another night of the Saints Avenue Cafe Saturday Night Series presented by Harris Auto Racing. In addition to the normal seven weekly classes, the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks made their first appearance of the season. One Hundred and Thirty-Four cars signed in for night number seven of racing in Boone.

Brian Efkamp knocked something off the bucket list by taking the K1 Race Gear IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Mike Kennedy won the MyRacePass Mod Lites. Jake McBirnie took the checkers in the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods, Eric Elliott won the Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds. Other Feature Winners was Devin Smith in the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars, Bill Davis Jr in the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks, Eric Knutson in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks, Donny Mason and Junior Worley in the Cruisers.

First feature of the night was the K1 Race Gear IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars 20 lap event. Before a single lap was scored in the books, the caution came out when Jake Greenwood slid off the top of turn two. On the restart, Brian Efkamp started on the pole and would lead the entire race going on to take his first ever victory in the Sprint Cars. Efkamp admitted in victory lane with track announcer Coty Mallicoat that this was something he wanted to knock off his bucket list to do. Finishing behind Efkamp was Mike Houseman, who came from eighth place to finish second, Tyler Thompson in third, Ryan Navratil in fourth and Mike Moore in fifth.

Mike Kennedy started outside the front row in the MyRacePass Mod Lites 15 lap feature and he took full advantage by grabbing the lead early. Kennedy led from wire to wire to take his first win of the year. Mike Morrill finished second, Terry Brown beat Joe Glick for the third spot, Glick ended up fourth and Randy Bryan was fifth.

The caution came out before a lap was scored in the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 18 lap feature when David Hoover, Billy Dyer, Ronnie Hults and Johnathon Logue got bottle necked in turn two. Mitchell Morris grabbed the lead early on the restart despite having challenges from Bryan Johnson. The caution came out again on lap four when Tara Longnecker in turn two. Morris saw Robert Moore take over the top spot away on lap five but the caution came out again on lap eight for Hunter Longnecker in turn four. Moore continued to lead until twelfth place starter Jake McBirnie worked his way through the field to take the lead away on lap 14. McBirnie, who nearly blew up in Hot Laps to a hard fought battle for the win, ended up crossing the line in first for his second win in Boone ahead of Moore. Chris Burke, Dusty Masolini and Dustin Lynch rounded out the top five.

Eric Elliott led all 20 laps in the Snap-On Tools IMCA Modifieds feature event. Elliott grab the lead from his fourth place starting spot and had several cautions to survive along with some challenges from Jimmy Gustin the later half of the race. The first of five cautions came out on lap one for Cory Sauerman, Tony Hilgenberg and Jon Snyder getting together in turn two. A lap later on two for Lloyd Henderson in turn two. Lap seven caution was for Thor Anderson in turn four, Lap 11 caution for Anthony Hofbauer in three and four with the final caution on lap 12 when Mike Van Genderen slid off the top side of turn three. Elliott was determined to not be denied the win as he would win comfortably ahead of twelfth place starter Jimmy Gustin who finished second. Russ Dickerson, Randy Havlik and Austin Kuehl finished third through fifth respectively.

Up next was the "Class too Tough Too Tame" the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars for their 18 lap feature. Mark Hidlebaugh led the first lap before a caution came out with Matthew West sitting in turn three. Josh Daniels took the top spot away on the restart, only to see the caution come out for Mike House and Anthony Goldsberry in three and four. Daniels continued to lead until Donavon Smith found a line to work allowing him to grab the lead away on lap seven. Donavon Smith appeared to be heading on to the win but the caution came out on lap 12 for Aaron Benz in turn four. Donavon Smith led until his brother Devin Smith worked the top shelf off the speedway allowing him to power on to the win. Its the third different Smith Brother to claim the Stock Cars in as many races, David two weeks, Donavon last week and Devin this week. Hard Charging Jay Schmidt took the runner up, started 22nd, took the runner-up honors away from Donavon Smith just like Devin did for the win. Josh Daniels wa fourth and Scott Davis was fifth.

In the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks Series 20 lap feature event, it was Bill Davis Jr leading the entire distance to nab the win in Lou Siplot Racing's All-Star number 23 truck. Davis pulled away on the restart and was never challenged. Trucks Points Leader Myles Michehl finished second, Lou Siplot finished in third, Bryan Spangler was fourth and Justin Schroeder was fifth.

Micah Hidlebaugh started fifth but by the end of lap one in the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature event, he found himself in the number one spot. Hidlebaugh did not looked fazed as he got a great restart and began to pull away while the battle behind him was heating up. The caution came out again on lap nine for Ben Newhouse, Shaun Wirtz and Daniel Smith in turn four. Hidlebaugh looked to be heading on to the win until he left the door open just enough in turn three on the last lap allowing Eleventh place starter Eric Knutson get under him. Knutson won the drag race back to the twin checkers to take the win, Hidlebaugh settled for second. John Watson, Solomon Bennett and Aaron Rudolph rounded out the top five.

Adults were not left out as their was give aways from Pritchard Family Auto Stores in Britt, Garner, Clear Lake, Forest City and Belmond.

Sixty cars signed in to take to the 4/10 mile speed plant on this draw/redraw night. 16 Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars, 15 House Motorsports IMCA Northern Sport Mods, 13 MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks, 11 IMCA Modifieds and 5 IMCA Sport Compacts. Feature Winners on the night was Oliver Monson (Sport Compacts), Johnathon Logue (Sport Mods), Derek Green (Stock Cars), Scott Dobel (Hobby Stocks) and Kelly Shryock (Modifieds). Final checkered flag was displayed at 9:58 pm.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts 10 lap feature event. Oliver Monson started outside front row when Spencer Nelson opted to go to the tail and he took full advantage of that because he jumped out to the race lead. Monson had a few challenges from Jade Lange before able to power away despite fracturing his left foot to take his third win in Britt. Lange finished second, Max Heimbuch finished third, Sam Umbarger was fourth and Nelson was fifth.

Next up was the House Motorsports IMCA Northern Sport Mods 20 lap feature event. Jim Chisholm jumped out to the early race lead when front row starters Johnathon Logue and Autum Anderson left the door open. Logue wrestled the lead away from Chisholm on lap three and started to get a little sepearation until the caution came out on lap eight when Anderson spun in turn four. Logue got a great restart and began to get a little seperation despite George Nordman now up in the number two spot trying to chase down Logue. Logue went on to take the win over Nordman, Colby Fett, Chisholm and eleventh place starter Josh Appel.

Hamburg, Minnesota's Dan Mackenthun led the opening lap of the Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars 25 lap feature before a fellow Minnesota racer Derek Green took the top spot away. Green looked to be comfortable and heading on to take the win until the caution came out on lap 24 setting up a green-white-checkered finish. The caution came out when Wayne Landheer spun in turn two. On the initial restart, Green did not get a great restart that allowed Mackenthun and Kelly Shryock to get by however before they were able to get back to the start and finish line, the caution came out again this time for John Campbell in turn two. Green got another chance and this time he got a good enough restart to hold off Shryock to take the win and be the sixth different winner. Mackenthun, Chad Palmer and Pete Alexander rounded out the top five.

In the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature, it was all Scott Dobel leading the way but he had several challenges from Brandon Nielsen, Cody Nielsen and Cory Probst. Wise looked like just maybe he would be heading on to the win but a caution came out on lap 21 for Nick Meyer in turn four. Wise had to contend with ninth place starter Kelly Shryock and Ryan Ruter on the restart in which allowed Shryock to take the lead away when Wise and Ruter got together. Shryock out front leading but the caution came out on lap 23 when Troy Swearingen came to a stop on the back stretch. Shryock held on to take his third win in Britt. Ward and Gustin battled hard and clean until a caution came out on lap four when Jacob Hobscheidt spun exiting turn four. Ward had to deal with brothers Richie and Jimmy Gustin on the restart but held them off until lap eight when Richie Gustin made the right move and grabbed the top spot away just before a caution came out for Cayden Carter coming to a stop in turn three.

Richie Gustin and Joel Rust began to battle for the top spot with Gustin hanging on to the top spot. The final caution came out on lap 13 for Jeff Larson in turn two. Gustin got a great restart and began to pull away from Rust and Jordan Grabouski. Only thing that slowed "G-Money" the last seventeen laps was lap traffic. Fourteenth place starter Ricky Thornton Jr moved up ten spots to finish fourth and Ward slipped back to fifth.

Anderson got a great restart meanwhile Reynolds saw Dylan Nelson power by on the outside to claim the second spot. The final caution came out on lap 13 for Zach Hovell on the backstretch exiting turn two. Anderson held off the challenges from Nelson on the restart to take the win. Nelson settled for second, Reynolds was third, Leah Wroten was fourth and Gary Pfantz was fifth.

Kyle Olson and Cam Reimers started on the front row in the IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature event. The Class Too Tough too Tame IMCA Stock Cars 20 lap feature went green to checkered. Austin Even led the first three laps before eighth place starter Damon Murty worked his way up to second. Murty took the lead away on lap four and never looked back going on to take the win. Jordan Grabouski tried to chase him down but settled for second. Todd Reitzler moved up four spots from seventh to finish third. Curt Hook finished fourth and Even fell back to fifth.

Jeremiah Hurst led from start to finish in the IMCA Late Models 25 lap feature, that also went caution free. Thirteenth place starter Darrel DeFrance, after missing his heat race, came home with a fifth place finish.

Gulbrandson Cashed In Big on Ladies Night in Dub City

On Saturday Night, I decided to make my first visit of the season to the historic half mile and the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City. Beautiful weather lead to 103 drivers checking in to race on Ladies Night including 10 Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks for their first visit of three visits.

Myles Michehl (Dirt Trucks),  Rocky Caudle (B-Mods), Dustin Gulbrandson (Hobby Stocks), Reid Keller (Stock Cars), J.D. Auringer (Modifieds), Darrel DeFrance (Late Models) and Matt Oberhelman (Tuners) took feature wins on Saturday Night.

First feature of the night was USRA Tuners 10 lap feature event. Matt Oberhelman and Oliver Monson led the field to the green and these two battled it out the entire race. Monson grabbed the lead on lap one before Oberhelman took the top spot away on lap two. Monson did not go away as he was able to regain the lead on lap six. Oberhelman made the right move coming out of turn four and beat Monson back to the line to claim win number three of the year. Ryan Bryant finished third, Sam Umbarger was fourth and Myke Gorham was fifth.

Going into the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks feature event, the question was could Eric Stanton continue his strangle hold on the division in Webster City or would their be a new driver winning and claiming the bounty. Zack Smidt from Mason City led the opening lap before Sioux Falls, South Dakota Hotshoe Dustin Gulbrandson took over the top spot on lap two after starting fourth. Gulbrandson looked comfortable out front until a trio of cautions, first one on lap five, second one on lap nine and the final one on lap 14, that set up a green-white-checkered finish. Gulbrandson knew he need to make the final two laps perfect because Eric Stanton and Jamie Songer was on the back bumper on the restart. Gulbrandson was able to get a good enough restart to hold off Stanton and take the win. Stanton finished second ahead of Scott Dobel, Songer and Smidt.

In the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks 15 laps feature event, Jeff Johnson wrestled the lead away early from Shonn Mapes. Johnson and the field saw the caution come out first on lap two when Del Enos spun in turn two. Johnson held off Bryan Spangler and Mapes on the restart but the caution came out again three more times. It was the final restart, that saw Johnson lose the lead to Myles Michehl on lap ten. Michehl went on to take his second truck series win of 2019 ahead of Johnson, Spangler, Pat Graham and Justin Schroeder.

Rocky Caudle jumped out to the lead from his pole position in the Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods 18 lap feature. Just after the completion of lap one, the caution came out when Brandon Toftee, Jeremy Grantham, Jamie Anderson, Kendall Zuetlau, Ryan Sams and Troy Oliver all got together in turns one and two. Caudle was not fazed as he got a great restart, showing no signs of rust. The caution came out again on lap nine three times before the field got a clean restart. Caudle was only slowed once again on lap 15 but again he was able to fend off and go on to take the win on his first night out. Jason Bass tried to grabbed the second spot away from Doug McCollough on the final lap but put it in the wall in turn two. McCollough went on to finish second meanwhile Bass ended up fourteenth. Ty Griffith worked his way from tenth to third, Nate Whitehurst finished fourth and twelveth place starter Levi Chipp finished fifth.

Gary Bass led the first nine laps of the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars 18 lap feature event before a caution came out. Bass had Donavon Nunnikhoven and Jason Minnehan on the back bumper on the restart, Bass held them off on the restart but the caution came out again on lap ten. Bass saw "Renegade" Reid Keller, starterd fourteenth, make a power move on the restart allowing Keller to wrestle the top spot away before Bass exited pit side. Keller fended off challenges from twelveth place starter Derek Green and Jason Minnehan including after the final caution came out on lap 13 for Roger Caquelin in turn two. Keller went on to take his first feature win of the season ahead of Green, Minnehan, Dylan Suhr and tenth place starter Josh Zieman.

Darrel DeFrance led all 18 laps of the Malvern Bank Super Late Models feature event to claim his first win in Webster City this season. Gabe Umbarger ran second the entire distance. Jason Hahne, Ryan Griffith and Charlie McKenna rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds 18 lap feature event. J.D. Auringer did the same leading all 18 laps and never was challenged through out the feature. Jeff James finished second, Garrett Wilson finished third, Chase Ellingson finished fourth and Ben Nading was fifth.
