Shryock Doubles Up on KIOW and Farmers Trust & Savings Bank Night

After taking a week off to observe Memorial Day Weekend, the Hancock County Speedway roared back to life for KIOW 107.3 FM and Farmers Trust & Savings Bank Night. Eighty-Five race cars checked in to the pit area for night number four at the 4/10 mile oval. The racing was exciting and intense all night long with two, three and four wide but one driver prevailed with two feature wins.

Kelly Shryock won both the IMCA Modifieds and Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars. Josh Appel picked up the win in the House Motorsports IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Brandon Nielsen won the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks and Oliver Monson returned to victory lane in the IMCA Sport Compacts.

Jade Lange and Oliver Monson battled it out early in the 10 lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature event with Monson leading all but the second lap when Lange led. With Lange and Monson racing side-by-side, Lucas Parsons worked his way from the fifth starting spot and challenged the leaders the final three laps but Monson powered away to take win number two in Britt. Parsons got by Lange for the runner up spot putting Lange to third. Marshalltown driver John Gill came home in fourth and Max Heimbuch was fifth.

Up next was the Quick Performance IMCA Stock Cars 15 lap feature event and it was Kelly Shryock taking full advantage of starting the pole by grabbing the lead despite being challenges by fellow outside front row starter Heath Tulp. However this feature struggled to find momentum as the caution came out after the completion of lap one and again after completing lap two. Shryock fended off Tulp on the restart and looked comfortable out front until another pair of cautions came out, one just past halfway on lap eight and then a lap later on lap nine. Shryock was determined to not be denied the win as again he held off Tulp on the restart and the final six laps. Shryock went on to become the third different stock car feature winner this season at Hancock County. Tulp finished second, Minnesota's Dan Mackenthun finished third, Andrew Borchardt finished fourth and Points Leader Chad Palmer finished fifth.

Before a single lap was scored the caution came out in the House Motorsports IMCA Sport Mods 15 lap feature event when several cars got together in turn one. On the restart, Josh Appel used the outside front row to his liking as he took the early lead. Jim Chisholm, who has been strong at Deer Creek grabbed the number two spot early as well. Those ran two the entire distance with the only other race caution come out on lap ten for Nate Whitehurst in turn three. Appel flexed muscles on the restart and went on to take the win ahead Chisholm, George Nordman, Doug Cook and Gerald Curry.

Wes Jahnz led the first lap of the MPM Marketing IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap event before Brandon Nielsen worked his way from fourth to the top spot on lap two. Nielsen was strong out front meanwhile behind him they were going two and three wide for position. Nielsen and the field saw the only race caution come out on lap five when three cars got together in turn two. Nielsen powered on to his first win in Britt this season. Cory Probst worked his way from seventh to second. Cody Nielsen went from ninth to third, Bryce Sommerfeld was fourth and Josh Sidles was fifth.

Veteran Todd Stinehart grabbed the lead early in the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature but this feature struggled in the early going with three cautions in the first two laps. Kelly Shryock powered by Stineheart on the restart after a caution on lap two but saw the caution again come out on lap three. Shryock got a great restart but saw the five and final caution come out on lap six. Shryock was able to pull away on the restart and would win by over a straight away over Jeremy Mills, who worked his away back through the field to finish second after getting together with Ryan Ruter on lap one. Stinehart ended up third, Ruter worked his way back to finish fourth and Nick Meyer was fifth.
