Boone Speedway Crowns Track Champions on Season Championship Night

After Dallas County Speedway races were completed I was on the road at around 7:15pm meaning I would for sure miss all the Dash Races and hope to catch the final Last Chance Qualifers at the Boone Speedway. However I rolled in to the parking lot of the Boone Speedway around 7:55pm and made in time to catch the final last chance qualifer races.

It was also Season Championship night at the Boone Speedway, as next week its the Prelude to Super Nationals followed by Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey's. Season Championship night saw five drivers take feature wins and five drivers crowned as track champions. The top ten in points were locked into the feature and a dash was used to determine where they would start for the feature. Eleventh on back in points would run a Last Chance qualifer to fill in the field for the features. One Hundred Thirty One car signed in for Season Championship night sponsored by D & E Outdoor Services and P1P Canopy.

First feature of the night was the MyRacePass MADCRA Mod Lites 20 lap feature event. Before a lap was completed scored the caution came out when Bryan Compart spun in turns one and two. "The Bus Man" Mike Kennedy jumped out to the race lead but the caution came out again on lap two when Austin Glick spun in turn two. Kennedy held off Joe Glick and Bryan Zehm on the restart and looked to be heading on to take the win easily until the caution came out again on lap 13, Ben George and Cody Yaw spin turn four. The caution came out again on lap 17 when Cliff Barber spun in turn four. The caution came on lap 19 for Douglas Byers, Dave Nelson, Barber and Yaw in turns three and four. That caution forced a green-white-checkered finish and Kennedy held off Joe Glick and Zehm to take his third win of the season. Joe Glick was second, Zehm was third, Randy Bryan was fourth and Tim Glick was fifth. Bryan came in the night two points up on Kennedy but with Kennedy winning and Bryan finishing fourth, Mike Kennedy claimed the track championship by one point.

"The Bobcat" Johnathon Logue held off Cory Pestotnik on the start of the Elmquist Towing IMCA Sport Mods 23 lap feature event. Logue pulled away only to see the caution come out on lap nine when Chad Ryerson spun in turn four and Bryan Johnson spun in turn two. Logue flexed his muscles and again pulled away but the caution came out on lap fifteen when Colton Nelson spun turn two. Logue was not fazed and held off Dusty Masolini and Dustin Lynch on the restart but once again the caution came out on lap 21 when Danny Fye spun in turn two. Logue held on to take sixth feature win at his home track. Masolini, Robert Moore, Lynch and Pestotnik rounded out the top five. Logue was also crowned the track champion by just taking the green flag winning by 57 pts over Masolini.

Two Weeks ago, Jake McBirnie won the IMCA Modifieds and last week, he got married. McBirnie wrestled the race lead from brother-in-law Tim Ward in D & E Outdoor Services IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature event. McBirnie held off Ward several times before pulling away only to have lap traffic slow him down allowing Ward to chase him back down. McBirnie was not to be denied as he picked up is second win of the season. Paul Nagle, Cory Sauerman amd Cody Laney got by Ward to finish second, third and fourth respectively. Ward finished fifth but still claimed the 2020 track championship by 40 pts over Russ Dickerson.

Devin Smith grabbed the early lead from fellow front row starter Jay Schmidt in the Arnold Motor Supply IMCA Stock Cars 25 lap feature event. Devin Smith saw his brother David Smith take over the race lead on lap two before the red flag came out. The red flag was for Scott Bailey rolling in turn two. David Smith held off Schmidt and brother Donavon Smith on the restart. The caution came out again on lap 22 when Devin Smith, experience mechanical issues as he slowed down the back stretch. David Smith held tough to take his first win of the season. Donavon Smith was second, Josh Daniels was third, Scott Davis was fourth and Schmidt was fifth. Donavon Smith won the track championship by twenty-four points over Jay Schmidt.

Final feature of the night was the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stocks 20 lap feature event. Dylan Nelson jumped out to the early race lead fending off several challenges from Eric Knutson until the caution on lap five. The caution was for Josh Vancannon, Kolby Goepel and Brian Derry in turn two. The caution turned into a red flag when Goepel's car caught fire, Goepel claimed from the car and the fire was quickly put out. Nelson and Knutson battled for the race lead including with Knutson taking the lead on lap nine. Nelson took the lead back but on lap thirteen, Knutson tried to take the back was then spun by Nelson, Nelson got the black flag from rough driving. Aaron Rudolph took over the top spot on lap 14. The caution came out on lap 18 for debris in turn two and then on the restart when Seth Butler stopped in turn two after making contact with Mike Smith. Rudolph held off Solomon Bennett on the restt. Rudolph to the feature win ahead of Shane Butler, Mike Smith, Knutson and William Klosterman. Dylan Nelson was crown track champion by 19 pts over Solomon Bennett.

The Boone Speedway also announced that they raised over $3,500 for track official Tammy Stevens, who is battling breast cancer. Tammy is a friend and I know she will kick cancer's in the butt.

Flagman Wes White displayed the final checkered flag at 11:10pm. It meant I successfully witness two races in one day ten hours after I left my house at 2pm to go to Adel. I was not the only ones to do the double as several of the track officials at Dallas County Speedway made the trip up to Boone as well.

Next Saturday Night the Boone Speedway kicks off the biggest week of racing in one place. Wild Rose Casino Prelude to the Super Nationals is on Saturday September 5th. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Pits Open at 1pm, Grandstands at 3pm, Hot Laps at 4pm and Racing at 5pm.

Then the 38th Annual Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals Fueled by Casey's General Stores kicks off on Monday September 7th and runs through Saturday September 12th. Racing each day of the Super Nationals will start at 2pm.

Season Championship Night at Dallas County Speedway

When Marshalltown Rained out on Friday after an afternoon rain storm that forced them to cancel, it was too late to get ready and make it too Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge on Friday so the talk of doing two races in one day was an idea. After talking myself into doing I planned for Dallas County Speedway in Adel and Boone Speedway in Boone.

Dallas County Speedway in Adel was hosting Season Championship Races on Saturday, started at 4:30pm with the first race going green and the final race was completed 7:09pm. The race track hasn't received rain since the Derecho so any water that was put on the racing surface was sucked right in that left the track dry. It still produced some great racing through out the night. Fifty-nine cars signed in for Season Championship night.

First feature of the night was the Junior Front Wheel Drive 8 lap race, Aubrey McKasson wrestled the early lead away from fellow front row starter Braelynn Long. McKasson held off any challenge, Long threw at here to take the win. Long finished second, Hannah Swedberg was third,  Amanda Lee was fourth and Zach Cleghorn was fifth. McKasson claimed the JR Front Wheel Drive track championship.

Cole Edgington claimed the early lead of the Stock (Figure 8) ten lap feature from the "The Goose" Rick Goldsberry. Edgington held off Goldsberry to go on to take the feature win. Goldsberry slipped up allowing Jesse Tarter, Chris Mitchell and Jerry Glass to get by him. Tarter finished second, Mitchell was third, Glass was fourth and Goldsberry was fifth. Goldsberry claimed the track championship.

Before a single lap was scored in the Front Wheel Drive ten lap feature the caution came out when Jordan Ford, Beau Purvis and Ethan Thompson got together in turn two. Mark Downing grabbed the race lead when the race finally got going with Matt Pool and Autumn Turner trailing him. The caution came out again on lap five when Ryan Hass hit the wall in turn three. On the restart, it came out again when Autumn Turner came to a stop on the back stretch after her car finally gave up. Mark Downing held off Jeremiah Downing to claim the feature win. Jeremiah Downing, Tanner Spolestra, Steven Fenton and Nate Fallin rounded out the top five. Autumn Turner hung on to win the track title over Mark Downing.

In the Pro-Stock Figure 8 Class twelve lap feature, JR Tarter grabbed the early lead holding off Joey Young. Nic Runyan got by Joey Young for second and was trying to get by Tarter. On lap seven, the caution came out when Young made contact with Runyan spinning him around. Tarter held on to the race lead until lap nine when Young forced him out of the way. Young went on to take the win, Runyan came back to finish second, Billy Fomaro was third and Tarter was fourth. Young was the Pro-Stock Track Champion.

James Tarter / Brianna Brickman showed why the are so tough in the Cruisers class as they lead from start to finish in the 12 lap feature event. Not even Brandon Tjaden / Brandan Long could make the pass for the race lead or would they let the lap five caution faze them. The caution was for Jeriray Croy / Johnnie Croy in turn two. Tarter and Brickman claimed the feature win and the track title. Tjaden / Long, BJ Charlson / Emily Rucker, Chris Mitchell / Shelbie West and Eugene LaRue / Monte Miller finished second through fifth respectively.

Casey McKasson led from start to finish in the Open (Figure 8) 12 lap feature but the real battle was behind him between Nic Runyan and Joey Young. Runyan spun Young on lap eight and went on to finish second. Young pulled off on lap nine but he would finish third and JR Tarter exited on lap one. Runyan claimed the Open Figure 8 track championship.

Final feature of the night was the Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature event, before a lap was compeleted the caution came out when Wes Millang and Brandon Tjaden got together in turn two. Jerry Glass grabbed the race lead on lap one but slipped up on lap two allowing Brandan Long to take over the race lead. The caution came out just after for debris on the back stretch. Long held off Glass until the caution came out twice on lap five for debris in turn two. Long held off Glass to take the feature win. Garrett Croy was third, Tjaden was fourth and JR Croy was fifth. Glass came in the night ten points up on Long and after all points have been added he would claim the track title by 10 pts.

This was the last scheduled race at the Dallas County Speedway in Adel. However last night in the drivers meeting, Darin Nelson and Scott Mineart announced the possibility of having a Fall Special race in October. So keep checking the Facebook Pages if that happens.

For more information call Promoter Scott Mineart at 515-313-1121 or e-mail him at Dallascoraces@yahoo.com or DallasCoRaces Facebook Page for any updated information.

All the pictures I took last night are posted on the Trackside Report Facebook Page. If you share the pictures please give me credit because I do this for the love of this sport and not to make money, however if you want to give me some I wouldn't complain.

First Responders Remembered on VanDerWilt Repair and Nelson Repair Night at Brooklyn

Last week Promoter Don Wauters knew his regular announcer was not going to be there on Saturday Night for the make-up race from a race night lost in April and May due to the pandemic, he asked me to fill in and of course I said yes I am interested. It was so much fun putting the camera away for a race night and getting to announce races again so I was trully honor to be asked to fill in. Okay on to the recap for race night.

Mother Nature dodged the Brooklyn Raceway minus a few sprinkles and it turned out to be a very beautiful night of racing. One Hundred and Eight cars signed in to race on VanDerWilt Repair of Sully and Mark Nelson Repair of Oskaloosa Night at the Races. There was two and three wide racing through out the night. There was no fear by the drivers as many of them traded paint as well.  The Final checkered flag was displayed at 11:43 pm.

Also Malcom Volunteer Firefighter Samantha Wierson and Brooklyn Volunteer Firefighter Chris Keller was remembered after they lost their life in last week's Derecho storm. Brooklyn Fire Department was honor along with other Volunteer Firefighters who race at Brooklyn Raceway. Thanks to all of our Firefighters, Paramedics / EMT's and police officers for all you do during the tough times.

First feature of the night was the Micro Sprints 20 lap feature event.  Joe Dent led the first lap but Travis Rewerts took the top spot away on lap two from Dent. Rewerts so dominate in the Micro Sprints at Brooklyn was slowed with a pair of cautions. The first caution came out on lap six for Dakota Young spinning in turn two. Two laps later, the caution was for Dallas Darnell in turn two and Joe Friedel getting together with Young in turn four. Rewers got a great restart and went on to take his sixth win in Brooklyn. Dent finished second, Tyler Lee was third, Alex Vandevoort was fourth and Bill Livezey was fifth.

Because of car count, the Front Wheel Drive was split into two 12 lap feature events. In Front Wheel Drive Feature number one before a lap was complete the caution came out when Tony Audas and Jay Crabill got together on the back stretch forcing a straight up restart. Ethan Wauters wrestled the early lead from Matt Pool but just afte the completion of lap one, Pool experienced mechanic issue and slowed on the back stretch. Wauters held off Tony Audas and Brooklyn Henderson on the restart and looked to be heading on to the win. Henderson tried several times to get by Wauters but was unable to make the pass as Wauters held on to the race lead and then held off last lap challenge from John Schuring. Wauters took his fourth feature win in Brooklyn this season. Schuring finished a close second, Chad Larson was third, Jay Crabill was fourth and Danny Robinson was fifth.

Front Wheel Drive Feature number two saw Dalton Sowers grab the race lead and fend off Jordan Ford and Jody Kingery. Sowers appeared to be heading on to the win until the caution came out on lap 11 when Kingery spun in turn two. That forced a green-white-checkered finish. Ford got by Sowers on the restart and would go to take the win. Sowers, Cody Howe, Jeremy Williams and Kingery round out the top five.

Jerry Glass grabbed the early lead in the 12 lap Hobby Stock feature event but the caution came out on lap two when Larry Routh hit a tire in turn two and leaving debris on the track. The caution came out again on lap three for debris that came off of Routh's car. Glass held off Jacob Lehman and Brandan Long until the caution came out again on lap five when Routh and Chad Heyveld got together on the back stretch. Glass continued to lead until after completing lap eight,  Glass got sideways exiting turn two and Lehman made contact with Glass bring the caution out. Lehman inherited the lead but the caution came out again just after lap nine was scored when Brandan Long spun in turn two. Lehman held off Keaton Gorden and Glass to take the feature win. Gorden was second, Glass in third, Heyveld was fourth and Long was fifth.

Trucks was up next for their 12 lap feature event but before a lap was scored the caution came out when Jerry Moffitt and Bryan Stephenson got together in turn two. Michelle Keasling had a small fire under the hood of her truck during the caution. Dave "Tiny" Sellers led from start to finish when the race got started and went on to take his first win in Brooklyn. Bryan Stephenson finished second ahead of Moffitt, Mark Ruggles and Keasling.

Junior Front Wheel Drive saw "Miss B" Braelynn Long and Dylan Zuck lead the field to the green flag in the their 8 lap feature event. The caution came when Aubrey McKasson spun in turn two on the first lap forcing a complete restart. Long wrestled the lead away from Zuck and began to pull away but the caution came out on lap three. The caution was for Dylan Zuck went he a tire in turn four bending the rear end forcing him to head pit side. Long went on claim the checkers, McKasson finished runner up honors. Addasin Spain, Blaine Kriegel and Addalyn Stevens finished third through fifth respectively

Cruiser twelve lap feature event saw Laverne & Jacob Lehman battling with Mark Schuring & Jerret Utterback for the race lead. Lehman / Lehman led the first lap before some mechanical issues forced them to exit. Schuring / Utterback to over the relead and led until lap ten when Corey VanDerWilt and Brett Maasdam took the race lead away. VanDerWilt / Maasdam and Schuring / Utterback came across the line in a dead tie at the line. Ray Hill / Austin Schuring finished third, Bruce Kline / Danielle Kline was fourth and "Dan & Don" Brandan Long / Brandon Tjaden finished fifth.

Pole sitter Dylan McKasson spun on the opening lap for the Stock Figure eight 12 lap feature forcing a complete restart. Josh Vandermolen jumped out to the race lead and fend off challenges from Dan Arnett early in the race. The caution came out on lap four when McKasson came to a stop in turn two. On the restart, Ashton Hartwig came to a stop in turn four. Vandermolen was strong and went on to take his second win of the season and third of his career. Lange, Roe, Griffith, Keller and Ellingson Victorious on Jaeschke Trucking Night

Last week I had wonder if I would be seeing any Friday Night Racing this week well after Promoter Andy Jones put out if he found a sponsor, he would have a non-track point night at Sports Park Raceway. I commented that if he did find a sponsor that I would come up to take pictures / write a blog, announce or flag because not knowing that Marshalltown Speedway would race after last week's storm damage. With normal track announcer Bryan Denekas on a family vacation in Florida, I was called in to fill in as announcer for the night with a little help from Braxton Flattery, he did the Tuners and all the Cash Dash races for me, as I jumped over to do some scoring.

Jaeschke Trucking of Fort Dodge stepped up to be the sponsor for the night. Autodrive Inc and Jeff Frevert jumped on board to help payout the Cash Dash in all five classes, Jones Rock and Dirt LLC provided new drivers by buying a temp license to race on Friday Night. Sixty-One cars signed in to tame the Sports Park Raceway 1/2 mile race track.

Ryan Bryant (USRA Tuners), Josh Sidles (USRA Hobby Stocks), Matt Grall (USRA B-Mods), Jason Minnehan (USRA Stock Cars) and Jesse Ely (USRA Modfieds) each led from start to finish to take the wins in the Autodrive Cash Dashes.

First feature of the night was the 10 lap USRA Tuners feature event but before a complete lap was scored the caution came out when Breanna Ades spun in turn four forcing a complete restart. Jade Lange from Humboldt jumped out to the race lead however after one lap was scored the caution came out again when Josh Dahlsten spun in turn two. Lange held off Bryant on the restart and pulled away cruising on to the easy win. It was Lange's fourth win at Sports Park Raceway. Spencer Nelson finished a distance second. John Dahlsten was third, Josh Dahlsten was fourth and Ades was fifth.  Lange also took the heat race win.

Cory Roe wrestled the early lead in the 15 lap Pickett Salvage USRA Hobby Stocks feature event. Roe held off several challenges from John Ades and Danny Sassman until the caution came out on lap three when Bryce Sommerfeld spun turn one. Roe held off Ades, Sassmand and Josh Sidles on the restart with none of them able to get by but a caution on lap 12 forced a late race restart. The caution on lap 12 was for Jeremy Crimmins and Jeff Fink getting together in turn four. Roe held on to take the feature win. Nineth place starter Zack Smidt made a run in the end but ended up second, Ades was third, fourteenth place starter Roger Haupt was fourth and twelfth place starter Lincoln Miller was fifth. Roe and Ades won the heat races.

Fort Dodge's Justin Patterson led the first three laps of the 15 lap USRA B-Mods feature before Webster City's Ty Griffith worked his way from fifth to the race lead on lap four. The caution came out on lap five when Jeremy Grantham spun in turn two. Griffith got a great restart and pulled away to take his tenth feature win at Sports Park Raceway in thirteen nights. Brandon Toftee started eleventh and finished second. Patterson, Gerald Curry and Greg Simmons rounded out the top five. Jones, Griffith and Caquelin took heat race victories.

Reid Keller wrestled the lead early away from fellow front starter Jason Minnehan in the 15 lap American Racer USRA Stock Cars feature event. Keller and Minnehan battled it out with heat race winner Calvin Lange in tow but the caution came out on lap three for Nathan Ely in turn three. Keller continued to lead until the red flag came out when Lange blew a puff of smoke on lap 11 before a fireball ignited under the hood of his car forcing him to come to a stop on the front stretch. Keller held off Minnehan to take the feature win. Bill Crimmins, Jeff Lyon and Justin Ades rounded out the top five.

Final feature of the night was the 15 lap USRA Modifieds feature event. Chase Ellingson jumped out to the race lead and never looked back despite a caution on lap seven for Greg Elliott in turn three and four. Ellingson got a great restart and pulled away to take his sixth with in Fort Dodge. Garrett Wilson finished second, Scott Olson was third and Jesse Ely was fourth. B-Mod racer Ty Griffith decided to run his B-Mod against the Modifieds, he would finish fifth. Ellingson dominated in the heat race action.

Final checkered flag was displayed at 10:15pm. Thanks to Andy Jones and his wife Amanda for inviting me to come fill in behind the microphone for the vacationing Bryan Denekas.

Military and First Responders Appreciation Season Championships at Warren County

Its been an eventful week for most of Iowa as the a storm system called a Derecho hit leaving many with property damage, power outages and other various things. That also adjusted my plan for racing because I was planning to go either to Marshalltown or Indianola on Friday however after major damage was left at Marshalltown Speedway, the plan was to go to Indianola on both Friday and Saturday. However once again plans change when Warren Count cancelled because of storms possible on Friday Night but announced they would race as scheduled on Saturday night.

Saturday Night at the Warren County Speedway was Kids Bike Giveaway Night / Season Championship Night sponored by TruBank and Smith's Collison Center. Since Friday Night was cancelled, it was also Military Appreciation / First Responder's Night sponsored by Aubert's Towing and Williams Machine Shop.

Nine-Three entries signed in to take quarter mile oval located on the Warren County Fairgrounds in Indianola. Ten Junior Front Wheel Drive, 21 Front Wheel Drive, thirteen Cruisers, seven Trucks, 15 Hobby Stocks, six Combo / Senior Figure 8, ten Stock Figure 8, six Pro-Stock Figure 8 and five Open Figure 8. After the regular feature their was a Run What Ya Brung special race with $1,000 to first, $750 to second and $500 to third.

First feature of the night was the Junior Front Wheel Drive feature event. "Miss B" Braelynn Long wrestled the early race lead from fellow front row starter Aiden Smith. Long held off Smith challenges until the caution came out when Smith rolled in turn three leaving Aubrey McKasson and Jason Alexander to stop to avoid contact, Smith was okay but unable to continue. Long held off Alexander several times until Alexander tried to make the move on lap seven, Alexander led exiting turn two but Long refused to go away and took back the race lead exiting turn four. Long had her nose piece dragging so that allowed McKasson to steal the lead away on lap eight. McKasson held off Long to take the feature win. Long settled for runner-up spot ahead of Alexander, Luke Byers and Chloe Fallin. Kole Adams won the Track Championship by 10 pts over Long.

Freedom Handy / Skyler McBee lead the first three laps of the Cruisers feature before losing a wheel in turn three on lap four, forcing the caution to come out. Robert Jones / Johnnie Croy inherited the lead and led until Shelbie West / Chris Mitchell took over the top spot on lap five. The caution came out again on lap ten for Joe Grubbs / Josh Grubbs  and Bryan Stephenson / Deal Keasling got together in turn four. West / Mitchell was not to be denied as the held on to take the win after the green-white-checkered restart. Jared Myers and his co pilot finished second, Seth Parker / Josh Parker was third, "Dan & Don" Brandan Long / Brandon Tjaden was fourth and BJ Charlson and his co pilot was fifth. James Tarter / Brianna Brickman won the Cruisers Track Championship over Robert Jones / Johnnie Croy by 15 pts.

Trucks 16 lap feature event saw Jody Boell grabbed the early race lead but Boell bobbled allowing Chad Keller to take the lead away on lap three. Keller held off Jody Boell and went on to take his first win of the season. Jody Boell ran second the rest of the way to finish in the runner-up spot . Robby Dittmer worked his way up to third on lap five and managed to finish there. Gordon Davey and Gatlin Boell was fourth and fifth respectively. Dittmer claimed the track championship.

Daniel Jones and Chris Mitchell led the field to the green in the Stock Figure 8 Feature event. Jones grabbed the early lead as Mitchell was passed by Cole Edgington. Edgington ran second to Jones until lap 11 when Edgington was able to grab the race lead. Edgington lead was short lived as Jones got back by Edgington coming to the checkered flag. Jones took the win, Edgington was second, David Blair was third, Dylan McKasson was fourth and Cordell Hestness was fifth. Coled Edgington won the track championship by 20 pts over Bradley Byers.

Blake McCann led the first lap of the Front Wheel Drive 12 lap feature event before the caution came out when Allen Young stopped on the exit of turn two with mechanical issues. McCann held off Justin Berry and Mark Smith on the restart. The caution came out again on lap seven when John Millang rolled over in turn two meanwhile debris on the race track, a tire from another car along with a spring. Jones, Smith, Hare, Zieman and Schott Win on Car Load Night in Mason City

After deciding not to go on family vacation when my family left on Friday, it left my Sunday being free so all day long trying to decide where I wanted to go racing at about 2pm, I decided I would make my second trip to Mason City but first since the race track was recofigured into a 1/3 mile bullring. I think compared to the old half mile, the racing is much better on the new 1/3 mile race track. Todd Staley and the crew are doing an amazing job every week and I can tell that after attending tonight.

Fifty-One cars signed in for Car Load Night, where fans could bring a whole car load and get in for $20. Eight USRA B-Mods, 10 USRA Hobby Stocks, 13 USRA Modifieds, 12 USRA Stock Cars and Eight USRA Tuners. Devin Jones, Zac Smith, Brandon Hare, Josh Zieman and Lucas Schott all took feature wins

USRA Tuners was first up for their 10 lap feature event, Devin Jones started on the pole and wrestled the lead early from fellow front starter Nick Sillman. Jones pulled away and despite Gerrot Jacobson trying to chase down Jones before exiting the races. Jones went on to take his first in Mason City. Jade Lange finished second, Ryan Bryant finished third after borrowing a car when his suffered mechanical issues. Sillman was fourth and Jacobson was fifth. Jones also took the heat race win earlier in the night.

Zac Smith from Manly jumped out to the early race lead in the 15 lap USRA Hobby Stocks feature. Smith held off Kyle Sidles and Derek Willert numerous times before getting some seperation. It appeared Smith was going to take the easy win but the caution came on lap seven when BJ Dahl spun in turn four. Smith held off Sidles and Chris Hovden on the restart, to lead the remaining eight laps. Smith took his second win at his hometrack. Hovden, Sidles, Scott Dobel and Willert round out the top five. Sidles and Hovden won the heat races.

Brandon Hare started on the pole of the 15 lap USRA B-Mods feature, he took full advantage by grabbing the lead. Hare held off Eric Thill early before pulling away and going on to take his second win in Mason City. Thill ran second the entire distance, Brandon Maitland grabbed the third spot on lap nine and hung on to finish there. George Nordman and Doug McCollough finished fourth and fifth respectively.  Thill claimed checkers first in the heat race.

In the USRA Stock Cars 18 lap feature, Josh Zieman wrestled the lead from Coy VanHauen on lap one and never looked back. Zieman went on to take the his first win in Mason City. VanHauen finished in the runner-up spot, Andrew Borchardt was third, Joe Schmit was fourth and Jesse Brown was fifth. Travis Shipman and VanHauen won the heat races.

Final feature of the night was the USRA Modifieds 20 lap feature, Lucas Schott grabbed the early lead but Shawn Ryan did not go away. Ryan however spun in turn four and suprising several others got caught up but ended up with little to no damage. Schott got a great restart and after holding off Josh Angst, Schott pulled away. Not even lap traffic was going to slow, Schott down as he cruised on to his second feature win. Angst tried to chase Schott back down but couldn't as lap traffic was heavy, Angst manage to finish second. Lance Mari, Al Hejna and Devon Havlik rounded out the top five. Schott and Aaron Benson won the heat races

Racing action was completed in roughly about 2 hours with the final checkered flag flying at 8:13pm. That meant I was back on the road for home before the sun fully set in the west. I had fun and will try to make another visit again as soon as I can because I like the new bullring race track.

Castellano Takes Allison Racing Memorial at Dallas County

A little over a week ago, I was asked by the Allison Family to make a flyer for the Allison Racing Memorial Race at the Dallas County Speedway. After doing that I planned on being there as I remember watching Rob Allison went I got to see racing at the Iowa State Fair Speedway when I was younger.

Thanks to Scott Mineart and the staff (Darin Nelson, Morgan Nelson and Jason Bruns) for allowing me to come and cover the racing action. I was not disappointed as the racing action was fantastic and it was really cool how up close I could get to take pictures.

The Hobby Stocks was the featured division remembering Rob Allison, who passed away after an 18-month battle pancreatic cancer on February 16th, 2020.  Lana Allison the wife of the late Rob Allison dontated purse money, $250 extra to first place, $150 extra to second place and $100 extra to third place finisher. Lana said it best, He has been greatly missed as he was loved by everyone. I know he is watching down from above with a smile from ear to ear. Good Luck Racers!

First feature of the night was the Junior Front Wheel Drive 10 lap race, Aubrey McKasson and Braelynn Long led the field to the green flag. Long grabbed the lead early in the race holding of McKasson and Kole Adams in the early going. Adams tried to take the top spot away from Long but made contact and was black flagged for rough driving. Long held on to take the win ahead of McKasson,  Amanda Lee, Chloe Fallin and Zach Cleghorn.

Rick Goldsberry took the lead early in the Stock (Figure 8) feature fending off Chirs Mitchell and Jerry Glass. Glass got by Mitchell on lap two and set his sights trying to get by Goldsberry on lap two but was unsuccessful. The caution came out on lap eight when Mitchell and Brian Stevens got together in the figure 8, Stevens then hit the wall but was okay, both exited to the pits with front end damage. Goldsberry held off Glass to take the feature win. Cole Edgington finished third, Dylan McKasson was fourth and Jesse Tarter was fifth.

In the Pro-Stock Figure 8 Class, Nic Runyan led the first lap before Joey Young took the top spot away on lap two. James Tarter / Brianna Brickman jumped out to the early race lead in the cruiser feature fending off Chris Mitchell / Shelbie West. Tarter / Brickman was able to pull away and cruise on to the easy win ahead of Seth Parker / Josh Parker who got by Jeff Culp / Charles Belew just past halfway. Eugene LaRue / Monty Miller and Robert Jones / Johnnie Croy rounded out the top five.

Front Wheel Drive feature saw Justin Zika grabbed the early lead. Zika held off challenges and lead until the caution came out on on lap ten when Abbie Turner spun in turn four resulting in Mark Smith having no where to go. Zika battled with Blake McCann until McCann grabbed the race lead away on lap 13 of 15. McCann went on to take the checkers first ahead of Mark Downing, Zika, Beau Purvis and Matt Pool.

Casey McKasson led from start to finish in the Open (Figure 8) 15 lap feature event. It was not easy for McKasson as he had several challenges from David Burnell through out the race. Crazy and Wild Night at the Brooklyn Raceway on NAPA Auto Parts Night

Its hard to believe racing season is almost over as late as it starts but one track that has remained inviting is the Brooklyn Raceway. On Friday Night, it was a beautiful night for racing so I made the 48 mile trip to the Figure 8 Capital of the World for Napa Auto Parts Night at the Races. Racing was exciting and itense with the racing surface adding a little charcter to the racers all night long.

Ninety-Seven cars into tame the tight bullring of Brooklyn Raceway. Ten Micro Sprints, 14 Front Wheel Drive, 7 Hobby Stocks, 6 Trucks,  7 Junior Front Wheel Drive, Eigteen 2 Man Cruisers, seventeen Stock Figure 8, seven Open Figure 8 and eleven Pro Stock Figure 8. Racing went green at 7:15pm with the first heat race and ended with the final checkered flag at 10:19pm.

First feature of the night was the 20 lap Micro Sprints feature. Travis Rewerts seems to know how to do as he started on the pole after winning his heat race and after out wrestling the lead from fellow front starter Joe Dent. Rewerts led from start to finish and manage to go on and take the win despite a late race challenge from Tyler Lee. Lee finished second, Dallas Darnell was third, Greg Dennis was fourth and Dent finished fifth.

James Haring grabbed the early lead in the 12 lap Front Wheel Drive feature but that was short lived as Brooklyn Henderson took it away on lap two. Henderson led until Haring managed to get back by on lap six. Shortly after the caution came out for Jody Kingery and Hailey Morse sitting in turn two plus debris sitting on the back stretch. Haring held off Henderson and then held off Dalton Sowers to grab the feature win. Sowers finished second ahead of Henderson, seventh place starter Ethan Wauters and John Schuring.

In the twelve lap Hobby Stock feature, Dakota Tuttle grabbed the early lead but Jacob Lehman took the lead away on lap three. Lehman felt the pressure from Brandan Long the entire way as he got by Tuttle for second, the following lap before battling with Lehman. Lehman held off every challenge from Long to take the feature win. Long, Tuttle, Chad Heyveld and Brooklyn Henderson rounded out the top five.

Tim McKee led from start to finish in the twelve lap Trucks Figure 8 feature event. Dave "Tiny" Sellers ran second the entire distance and Mark Ruggles was third. Deal Keasling finished fourth, Jerry Moffit was fifth and Michelle Keasling finished sixth after experience mechanical issues on lap one.

Junior Front Wheel Drive eight lap feature was up next on to the race track. Lilyann Hartwig and Dylan Zuck led the field to the green flag, Zuck jumped out to the race lead. Zuck held off Blaine Kriegel and Braelynn Long in the early going before pulling away. Zuck took his third win ahead of Kriegel, Hartwig, Long and Addasyn Spain.

Lavern Lehman / Jacob Lehman battled with Mark Schuring / Jerret Utterback in the early going of the 12 lap Cruisers feature. Lehman / Lehman grabbed the lead and when lap traffic started to come in play, they remained strong. On lap ten, Lehman / Lehman was trying to put the car of Joe Breeden / JJ Wiley a lap down and was spun on the front stretch forcing the caution to come out. Schuring / Utterback inherited the lead as Lehman / Lehman was put to the tail. Schuring / Utterback went on to take their second win in Brooklyn this year. Danielle Kline / Bruce Kline finished second, Corey Vanderwilt / Brett Maasdam was third, Bryan Stephensen / Deal Keasling was fourth and Wyatt Clabaugh / Chad Clabaugh was fifth.

Before a lap was completed scored in the twelve lap Stock Figure 8 feature, the caution came out when Trystan LaRue spun Jerome Kline in turn one. Marvin Housley got a great start when the race restart and grabbed the early race lead. Ashton Hartwig, started third took the race lead away from Housley on lap four. The caution came out on lap five when Michael Cheney got hung up on a tire in the middle of the figure 8 meanwhile LaRue came to a stop in turn four. Hartwig held off Josh Vandermolen and Housley on the restart managing to go on to take the feature win. "Farmer" Lane Leerhoff, Housley, Jerome Kline and Wyatt Clabaugh rounded out the top five.

In the twelve lap Open Figure 8 feature, Jesse Sanders held off early challenges from Jerrod Thompson and Ted Armstrong. Sanders did not let give up the top spot as he went on to take the feature win. Thompson finished second and John Watts was third. Jacob Lehman, making his debut in Don Wauter's old car finshed fourth and Duane Zander was fifth.

Final feature on the night was the twelve lap Pro Stock Figure 8 feature event. Bradly Graham grabbed the early lead with Brad Graham in second. Brad Graham got by Bradly Graham on lap two before a caution. The caution was for Aaron Roudabush coming to stop in turn four of the figure 8. Bradly Graham took back the race lead on lap four but a caution came out on lap five when Cade Groeneveld was hung up in turn two. On the restart the caution came out again when Kyle Richardson broke leaving debris on back stretch before coming to a stop in turn one. The caution came out one more time on lap seven for Anthony Marshall spining in turn three figure 8 after contact from Roudabush. Bradly Graham held on to take his third feature win of the season. Brad Graham finished second ahead of Butch Lester, Scott Shook and Cade Groeneveld.
