A Chilly Aaron's Fair Night at the Marshalltown Speedway

It was friday night at the Central Iowa Fair, it was also Aaron's Night at the Races with Kids bike races. You would have thought it to be the frostbuster all over again because it was a chilly night at the races but it brought great racing action on the fastest quarter mile the marshalltown speedway. Promotor Toby Kruse, who was just getting back from the dakota modified classic tour in north dakota to promote his weekly friday night racing action said he would take a chilly cloudy night at the races then a rainy night at the races.
On the night which saw one hundred and twenty race teams sign in to compete, they would have a near perfect race track. This night would bring some repeat winners and one first time winner at the marshalltown speedway.
Before the features would roll out they would have the kids bike races and then a little hot lap session for the pit bikes, quads and motorcycles which were scheduled to race on saturday at the central iowa fair.
Dwarf Car/Mod Lites were up first for their 15 lap feature, there was 20 cars that signed in. Joel Huggins would jump to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and go on to the win despite having to do battle with Johnny Mordock, Mike Morrill and Tim Hennigar and 1 caution which came out on lap 4 when Ryan Mills and Bryan Zehm got together in turns 3 and 4. For Huggins this would be his 2nd career win and his 1st win at Marshalltown. Mordock would come home 2nd followed by Point Leader Mike Morrill, Tim Hennigar and Jimmy May
Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods saw 27 cars sign in so that meant 4 heats and a b-feature was used to get the field down to 24 cars. When the 15 Lap Feature rolled on the race track, Joel Rust took the race lead from his outside front row starting spot on lap 1 but he was passed by 3rd place starter Paul Nagle on lap 2. Nagle would hold on that spot through 2 cautions on lap 4 and 5. the first caution on lap 4 was for Adam Shelman spinning in turns 3 and 4 and the second caution on lap 5 was for Jenae Gustin spinning out in turn 1. Nagle hung on but Scott Davis was working through the field. Davis would pass Nagle on lap 14 and go on to the win, his 2nd of the season at marshalltown. Nagle finished 2nd, Last Weeks Feature Winner Brad Iverson was 3rd, Track Point Leader Kevin Sather was 4th and Geoff Olson was 5th.
The Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars was next up on Aaron's Night at the Central Iowa Fair, they had 21 cars sign in, 20 of those cars took the green flag in the 18 lap feature. Rob Schneider would jump to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and lead the first 4 laps before handing the lead over to Trent Murphy. A couple of cautions would come out both for debris, first one on lap 9 and the second one on lap 16 setting up a green-white-checkered. Murphy would have to hold off challenges by Dustin Smith and Jeff Wollam the final 2 laps. Murphy took the win, Smith and Wollam was 2nd and 3rd. Following Murphy,Smith and Wollam was Rob Schneider, getting his best finish of the season and "The Flying Deuce" Dave Atcher.
Up Next was the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds for their 20 lap feature, they 18 cars sign in to the pit area to compete. "The Iceman" Scott Hogan would take the lead from the outside front row starting spot, it would appear he was going to take the win until the only race caution came out on lap 14 when Jacob Murray shot off of turn 4 and when in to the pit fence, he was okay and nobody got hurt. On the restart, Hogan would have Adam Larson, Jon Snyder and Jay Schmidt right behind. Larson would pass Hogan for the lead and go on to the win, Hogan would end up following back to 4th by the end as Team Harris would finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd with Larson taking the win, Snyder in 2nd, Schmidt in 3rd. Kyle Krampe would round out the top 5.
Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their 12 lap feature, all 27 cars that signed in would start the a feature. This time it would see the pole sitter Nick Murty jump to the early race lead. the first caution would come out on lap 2 when Jake Nelson spun in turn 2. Murty would lose the lead on lap 3 to Eric Stanton, Stanton would see another caution come out on lap 4 when John Schuring spun in turn 2. Stanton would hold on to the lead until lap 7 when he would lose it to Todd Reitzler. Reitzler would hold on for the win despite 2 cautions on lap 9, first one for Nick Murty blowing up in turns 3 & 4 and then for Clint Nelson and Schuring getting together in turn 3. Reitzler won with Stanton in 2nd, following them was Dylan Book, Eric Knutson and Brandon Pruitt.
The Last Event of the Night was the Sport Mod Gambler, where the entrys would have to throw a $25 in to the pot. 7 drivers did so that meant $175 to win for 8 laps with the winner take all. Scott Davis would lead the race from start to finish to add to his winnings on the evening. Behind Davis was Paul Nagle, Kyle Brown, Geoff Olson, Shawn Hunter, Joel Bushore and Tom Burke.
Next Friday Night will be Hogeland Auto Plaza Kids Night plus Thanks to Harris Auto Racing the IMCA Modifieds will run for $500 to win. Pits Open up at 5:15, Grandstands at 5:30, Hot Laps at 7, Racing at 7:30!

This will hopefully be the third night of my racing swing with The Deery Brothers Summer Series show at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa apart of the Southern Iowa Fair on Wednesday and Thursday Night Thunder at the Hamilton County Fair in Webster City on Thursday!
