With my Sunday Night Track, Stuart International Speedway not open for weekly racing action yet. They had a practice this afternoon and will begin its season Next Sunday Night with First State Bank Night. More on that in a bit but it meant that i could make a return visit to the Benton County Speedway for another great night of racing.
Just like i did with the previous three races in Vinton, I helped with scoring, much needed practice for the upcoming weekend races in Memphis, Missouri. 73 cars signed in to tame the Benton County Bullring on Sunday Night.
First feature was the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature event and it was a wild one from start to finish. After a caution before a lap was scored because Kyle Dulin spun in turn four. Rod Grother grabbed the lead on the restart and took advantage and lead until Nathan Ballard took the spot away on lap six. Ballard continued to lead until a caution came out on lap 14. Ballard experienced issues on the restart and that stacked up the field collecting Calvin Dhondt, Grother, Dulin and Daniel Waters. Justin Wacha took advantage and took over the lead only to see the caution come out again on lap 15 and 16. Wacha held on to take the win over Ballard, Mike Kimm and Matt Brown was the only four cars to finish. Meanwhile Adam Petrzelka was fifth.
The IMCA Northern SportMods feature also saw a caution come out before a single lap was completed that saw Dave Burrell and Brian Hilbert get together in turn four. On the restart though it was Shawn Ritter taking the early lead but it was Dubuque Regular Tyler Soppe taking the lead way on lap six. Soppe and the field saw the caution come out again on lap seven. Soppe had to contend with Ritter and Tony Olson, Olson got by Ritter and went on to take the lead from Soppe on lap nine. The caution again came out on lap 11 and 12. Olson continued to lead with Matt Petrzelka moved in to second before the caution on lap 14 for debris. During the caution, Kyle Olson and Soppe got together which resulted in Soppe being sent pitside because he was disqualifed with No Points and No Points. Tony Olson held off Petrzelka to take the win. Kyle Olson finished third, Dawn Krall was fourth and Colby Heishman was fifth.
Brandon Maitland grabbed the lead on lap one in the BCS Micro Mods 12 lap feature before the caution came out for Kaden Reynolds. Maitland continued to lead only to see the caution again after lap two and three. Maitland look pretty well comfortable and even though a caution on lap eight, it was Maitland going on to take the win. Tristan Cordes, Don Erger, Jeff Davis and Cole McNeal rounded out the top five.
The IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature was a very exciting feature event and it went caution free. Jared Daggett lead the opening lap edging out Curtis Roster at the line, Roster lead the next two laps though. Daggett took the lead back on lap four but Norman Chesmore was working his way from 11th to the top three in five laps. Chesmore worked his way to second on lap six and the lead on lap seve. Chesmore lead the remaining 12 laps to take the win over Jay Schmidt, Scott Pippert, Roster and Justin Stander.
Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature event and it was Ryan Maitland taking the early lead. Nothing seem to be slowing Maitland down not even the caution on lap four. Maitland continued to lead but the Iceman Scott Hogan chase down the youngster to take the lead away on lap 17. Hogan appearded to be heading to the win but on lap 19, he would slide off the turns three and four continuing to go but lost about six spots. That gave the lead back over to Maitland and it was Maitland joining his younger brother in victory lane. Joe Docekal finished second, Kyle Brown was third, Troy Cordes was fourth and Patrick Flannagan was fifth.
Racing continues next Sunday Night at the Benton County Speedway with Hot Laps at 5:45pm and Racing at 6pm.
Do not forget coming up on Tuesday May 12th, the Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds visit the Benton County Speedway with IMCA Stock Cars ($400 to win), IMCA SportMods ($400 to win) and IMCA Hobby Stocks ($200 to win). Hot Laps at 6:30pm and Racing at 7pm.
