Irvine Gets 2nd Win of The Week, Toland Wins As Well!

After missing the Stock Car Shootout Race at Alta because i had to do something for my family it was off to the Independence Motor Speedway for racing action in the Great American Stock Car Series for IMCA Stock Cars plus joining the on the doubleheader was the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models.

A total of 83 cars signed in to do battle with 35 Stock Cars and 48 Late Models. There would be 4 heats and 2 b-features in the Stock Cars, 5 heats and 2 b-features in the Late Models. In the Late Models there would also be 3 provisionals awarded, 1 hard charger and 2 deery series points provisionals.

The First Feature of the Night was The Class "Too Tough To Tame" IMCA Stock Cars for their 30 laps feature. Before 1 lap was completed Last Years Series Champion Jeff Joldersma would spin in turn 2, there would also be debris in turn 4. When the race would get going Chris Ullrich of Kiron would take the early race lead but he would have to battle with Sean Johnson of Independence every lap in the early going. On lap 8 the 2nd race caution came out when 09M of Brett Mather would spin in turn 1. When the race would get getting again, Ullrich would have Johnson behind him on the inside and Brian Irvine on the outside. Johnson would make the pass for the lead, Irvine would follow to second and Jarod Weepie would move up to 3rd. Johnson began to pull away but then the caution came out on lap 21, first for Kyle Frederick spinning in turn 1 & 2 and then for Justin Jacobsen in turn 2. Johnson and the field would see the green come out only to get another lap in the books, Irvine would slip by Weepie. This time the caution came out for Justin Temeyer in turn 4 and then on the restart it was Donavon Smith, Temeyer and Weepie getting together in turn 2. On the restart, Johnson and Irvine would battle for the lead and on lap 24 Irvine would take the lead. Irvine would cruise on to the win with Johnson on his back bumper. Damon Murty would get 3rd, Norman Chesmore was 4th and Ullrich was 5th.

The Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models were up for their 50 lap feature. Mark Burgtorf would take the early race lead but just after 1 lap was in the books the caution would come out for Joel Callahan and Brian Klein spinning in turn 4. On the Restart, Burgtorf would begin to pull away and look to be cruise to the win but on lap 13 Burgtorf incounter lap traffic. The lap car of Callahan spun in turn 4 right in front of the leader Burgtorf, Burgtorf had no where to go. Because we lost our leader on the restart we had a couple of guys setting the pace and those guys were Rob Toland and Kevin Blum, on the restart tho Blum would take the lead. Blum and Toland would continue to do battle for the top spot when the final race caution came out on lap 16 when Luke Goedert and Josh Most spun in turn 4. Blum and Toland would battle for the lead and swap the lead once or twice before Toland would settle in to the lead infact the only thing that would slow Toland would be lap traffic. Toland took the win, Terry Neal would take 2nd, Blum was 3rd, Dan Shelliam was 4th and Ray Guss Jr was 5th.

Damon Murty takes a 2 point lead in the Overall Great American Stock Car Series Points Standings over Marshalltown and Independence Feature Winner Brian Irvine. The Final Great American Stock Car Series will be at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson part of a doubleheader with the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds also joining them is the Hobby Stocks.

The Deery Series next race is next Wednesday Night at the Knoxville Raceway for the 19th Annual Harris Clash Night #2.
