I decided to continue my racing weekend be heading to the Boone Speedway for a weekly show. On this hot day and night it brought some great racing action on the race track. The track was fast and smooth but patients took a big part of moving through the field.
After all the heats and the sport mod b feature was completed they did there normal farm work to get the track ready for feature time and the Cliff Barber Memorial Candy Dash. This would see a winner match up a win from Marshalltown on Friday, winners repeat with another win at boone and brothers win for the first time on the same night
The first feature of the night was the Dwarf Car/Mod Lite for their 12 lap feature, Joel Huggins jumped to the early race lead and held on to the victory, making it 2 wins in 2 nights. The Only thing slowing him was a caution that came out on lap 8 when Johnny Mordock and Mike Thomas got together in turn 2 and battles with "Busman" Mike Kennedy and Team mate Eric Hendrickson. Hendrickson would finish 2nd and Kennedy was 3rd, Duane Coffman was 4th and Visitor Jason Masengarb would come home 5th.
The IMCA Sport Mods were up next, 35 cars signed in so 4 heats and a b-feature would be used to determine the 24 cars racing in the 18 lap feature event. Matt Deml from Owantonna, Minnesota would take the lead from his outside front row starting spot and would hold the top spot until lap 8. Randy Roberts would make the pass on Deml on lap 8 for the lead and go on to the win in the green-to-checkered feature event, Deml would retire to the pits. Behind Roberts was Joel Bushore, who would battle Roberts late in the Race and Matthew Meinecke, Scott Davis and Adam Ackerman.
Next was the IMCA Modifieds for their 20 lap feature. Boone Native Kelly Lyons would take the lead and never look back in the green-to-checkered feature event. Lyons would have to hold off challenges from Rod Scheuerman and Skeeter Paris and dodge through lap traffic. Lyons took the win, Scheuerman was 2nd, Paris was 3rd, "Toddzilla" Todd Shute was 4th and Jake "The Snake" Durbin was 5th.
The IMCA Stock Cars then would come out for there 18 lap feature. Josh Brauckman from Carroll would take the early race lead. The only caution would come out on lap 3 when Ryan Rose and Donavon Smith cut tires down after contact with Terry Corneilson would stop in turn 4. Brauckman would continue to lead but would lose it on lap 14 to Murphy. Murphy after wrecking the car on friday in marshalltown, he would spend along day in the garage that would pay off as he would take the victory. Brauckman would end up 2nd, Larry Crocheck was 3rd, Bill Reetz was 4th and Wayne Gifford was 5th.
The final 2 features of the night was for the IMCA Hobby Stocks and each of them was 12 laps.
In Feature #1, Kris Law took the lead and when on to victory in the green to checkered event. Cody Gustoff was 2nd, Alan Van Gorp was 3rd, Scott Lagrosso was 4th and Richard Yaw came up and finished 5th.
In Feature #2, This feature would have 2 cautions before half-way in the feature. Jesse McCollaugh would take the race lead from his front row starting spot. The first caution would come out on lap 1 when Jay Arends blows up and comes to a stop on the front stretch and Travis Fenton in turn 2. The 2nd caution came out on lap 5 when Kenneth Johnson hit the front stretch wall but through this time McCollaugh still hungon to the race lead. McCollaugh would be passed by 18 year old Michael Murphy on lap 10. Murphy would take the win, McCollaugh would follow back to 9th. Matt McDonald, Rob Allison, Chris Hupp and Pat Mather would round out the top 5.
Racing action was completed at 10:40 pm on this night!
