What A Week Of Great Racing Action!

Well this past week i was determined to go racing because i decided to stay home from going to minnesota with my family for the weekend and i made the right choice because i was able to enjoy racing action 5 nights in 6 days can't beat that!
My racing week/weekend started at the Marshalltown Speedway for the 1st ever appearance of the Casey's General Store United States Modified Touring Series to the track. Bring the best drivers from the midwest to see who could say they would be the king of the 1/4 mile race track, two of the drivers many people know because they race in nascar and i am talking about the 2 racing kennys, who love dirt track racing just as much as nascar and that is Kenny Schrader and Kenny Wallace, both of which would sign autographs for the fans before the races and then would go have fun racing with the boys and see if they could win the $2000!
I will tell you i was very impressed and can't wait to see them back at marshalltown again next year so a special thanks goes to toby kruse and his track crew for making a very smooth and fast racing surface and thanks to todd staley (president of the usmts) for bring the usmts to the speedway.
First up on the racing track was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA/USRA Hobby Stocks for their 12 lap feature event. Matt Drottz and Todd Reitzler would lead the field to the green flag and Reitzler would take the lead and would lead the entire feature event but was slowed 3 times, the first on lap 6 when Cody Cleghorn spun in turn 4 and then the next 2 cautions came on lap 11 when Russell Damme spun out in turn 2 and then again on the restart for debris on the front stretch but Reitzler wouldn't let them slow him down as he went on to the victory, Drottz would fall back to 6th. Kenny Hansen would make a last lap pass on Nathan Wood for 2nd, Chad Koch and Dustin Elliott rounded out the top 5.
Next up was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA/USRA Sport Mods, there was a total of 35 cars signed in for them forcing 4 heats and 1 b-feature to set the field. the only major mishap in the heats and b-feature was in the b-feature when cars spun on the front stretch, Lauren Vis #20L smacked the wall head on, she was taken to the hospital but was released just a little sore but she is okay and will be back out there in a couple of weeks.
Now on to the 15 lap feature event, Bill Hildreth and Kevin Sather pace the field to the green flag, this feature was plagued with cautions throughout the event but Kevin Sather wouldn't let him slow him down as he would go on to the victory. Kyle Brown, who started 6th would finish 2nd, 5th place starter Scott Davis would finish 3rd, Luke Wanninger (9th place starter) and AJ Johnson from Oskaloosa (20th place starter) rounded out the top 5.
Aaron's IMCA/USRA Stock Cars were next up for their 18 lap feature, "The Flyin' Dutchman" Mike Van Genderen and "The Iceman" Dusty Vis would start be scheduled to start on the front row but Vis when to the hospital to be with his daughter so "The Flyin Deuce" Dave Atcher would move up from his 4th place starting position to the outside front row a place he would enjoy because he would cruise on to the easy victory in his first night out on the track in 2009. this feature was ran green-to-checkered, finishing behind atcher was Tom Schmitt, Curt Hook, Mike Van Genderen and "The Rock Creek Rocket" Clay Deppe.
The Last feature on the track was the USMTS 4o lap feature event. Top 12 in passing points were locked in the a-main with then the top 4 cars from each b-main getting in then 2 usmts provisionals and then 2 track provisionals. Kelly Shyrock and Jon Tesch would redraw the front row! Tesch would hammer it down and take the lead from the get go. 3 cautions would fly during the race first after 1 lap in the book when 6 cars spun out on the frontstretch, the next when Dean Mahlstedt spun in turn 4 and then the last one came out on lap 24 when Colt Mather would come to a stop in turn 1 & 2. The Watertown, SD driver Jon Tesch goes on to the win. Jason Hughes would finish 2nd, "The Z-man" Zack Vanderbeek finish 3rd, Marshalltown's own "Young Gun" Ryan Gustin would finish 4th and Corey Dripps came 5th. Shyrock fell back to the 6th position.
Racing started at 7pm had a slight delay but racing action finished at 10:40 pm!

Then Thursday Night I rested up to get ready for the busy weekend that i had planned to go and watch the great racing action and trust me i needed a day just to take it easy bc i went to the track every night from friday to monday and i was really impressed!
On Friday Night it was back to the marshalltown speedway for another weekly show sponsored by the marshalltown evening optimist club where kids got in free and also got a free sandwich and a drink. On this night we would see one win streak continue and another one broken but for the 2nd time in one week the marshalltown speedway would be a great race track for the racers.
First up was the Dwarf Cars/Mod Lites for their 15 lap feature event. Randy Bryan and Jason Smithson would lead the field to the green flag, Bryan would take the lead then the first caution would come on lap 3 and it bunched up the field, in that time Mike Morrill and Tim Hennigar were moving to the front! Morrill would make the pass on Bryan on lap 5 and then the only other caution would follow the next lap. Morrill would go on and win and make it 6 for 6 on the year at marshalltown for the car #6, Tim Hennigar would finish 2nd, Dusty Masolini finished 3rd, Eric Hendrickson and Josh May round out the top 5.
Next up was the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were they had 33 cars sign in the pits just like any other night at mtown they have had 4 heats and a b-feature to set the field. This Feature was plagued by cautions, the first one came before one lap in the books so they had to go straight up restart. When they would get going Tom Burke would take the lead on lap 1 and then Paul Nagle, his team mate would take the lead on lap 2 and hold the top spot until lap 7 despite 2 cautions one on lap 3 and then lap 5. on the restart nagle was passed by Scott Davis would hold on to the lead despite 3 more cautions coming out on lap 8, 10 and 11. the Final 4 laps ran caution free, Scott Davis would take the win and become the first driver to win other than Kevin Sather. Nagle came home in 2nd, 14 year old Jake Strayer from Newton would finish 3rd, Joel Bushore came home in 4th and Kevin Sather came home 5th.
The Aaron's IMCA Stock Cars were up next with their 18 lap feature. Like the sport mods the stock car feature was plagued with cautions , the first one came before one lap was completed so a straight up restart. Tracy Gienger would take the lead when they got going and hold on until lap 5 were he was passed by Dustin Smith. Smith would hold the top spot despite cautions on lap 5, 7, 8 and 9. Smith would go on to victory, his 3rd win at mtown, Trent Murphy would come 2nd, "The Iceman" Dusty Vis came home in 3rd, Tracy Gienger and Jeff Wollam round out the top 5.
Then Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds came on the race track for their 20 lap feature. Kyle Krampe would take the lead from the start, the first caution would come out on lap 1. the field would be bunched up and on the restart Krampe would passed by "The Iceman" Scott Hogan. Hogan would lose the lead to Vern "Action" Jackson on the very next lap and he checked out in the mean time Adam Larson was on his way to the front and would catch jackson on lap 16 and would pass him on the next lap. Larson would go on to his 3rd victory of the season at the speedway, Jackson would finish 2nd, "Superman" Jimmy Gustin would finish 3rd, "Nitro" Nate Caruth came home 4th and "The Mo'town Missile" Brett Ladehoff came home 5th!
The final feature on the night was the Junction Bar & Grille IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature event, Jake Nelson would take the lead from the start but then a caution came out on lap 2. on the restart "Pistol" Pete Hutzel would take the lead, he would hold it through a caution on lap 5 and then would be passed on the restart of caution on lap 7 by Devin Smith! Smith went on to win his 2nd race of the season at marshalltown. Wednesday night's winner Todd Reitzler finished in the runner up spot, Hutzel would come across the line in 3rd but was disqualified in post race tech moving Michael Timm to 3rd. Michael Murphy of Jefferson came home 4th and Eric Larson of Grundy Center rounded out your top 5.
the Racing action came to an end at 10:52 pm!
Next it was off to the boone speedway for another great saturday night at the home of the supernationals.
First up is the Dwarf Car/Mod Lites for their 12 lap feature event, there was 31 cars signed in so they would run 3 heats and a b-feature to set the field for the feature event. Cory Dennis would pass his dad Rick and David Schmalzried on the start of the race and would take the lead the only caution came out on lap 7. But Cory would not let that affect him so he would cruise on to his 2nd feature win of the season. Andy Hennigar, Rick Dennis, Tim Hennigar and Mike Morrill would round out the top 5.
Up Next was the IMCA Sport Mods for their 18 lap feature event, there was 28 cars signed in so they would also run 3 heats and a b-feature to set the field. Love would hold off challenges until lap 11 when Jeremy Embrey would make the pass and go on to victory. It was a great night of racing and i will certainly try my best to get back down there because it was fun. the track was smooth, wide and dry slick.
The first division to run the ron little memorial feature was the IMCA Stock Cars. Bryan Snell of Coon Rapids would take the lead but would lose the lead on lap 12 to Tim Bengard. When they got going Shannon Anderson would take the lead and never look back despite having cautions on lap 2 and 13, anderson would also have to deal with lap cars and those would be the only thing to slow him down. This win would be his 4 of the week, 14th win of the 2009 season. Behind Anderson was Steve Roberts, Kenny Hansen, Devin Smith and Justin Maschke.
Dwarf Car/Mod Lites would run their 12 lap feature next and they would see a young man Josh May go on to the win despite a caution on lap 7 that bunched the field. May would hold off Mike Morrill for the win. Joel Huggins, Jimmy May and Eric Hendrickson rounded out the top 5.

Parkison would see 2006 & 2007 Winner Jimmy Gustin, 2008 Winner Randy Havlik and 2008 Track Champion Todd Shute on his back bumper on the restart. Parkison would be able to hold those 3 off while they engaged in their own battle, Shute jumped in to 2nd quickly and set his sights on Parkison which he would pass on lap 10. Shute would go on to the win, 2006 & 2007 winner Jimmy Gustin finished 2nd, 2008 winner Randy Havlik finished 3rd, Parkison finished 4th and Josh "Happy" Gilman came home in 5th.

Busch Wins at the Iowa Speedway

Today I headed to the Iowa Speedway for the NASCAR CAMPING WORLD East/West Challenge Race where Richard "The King" Petty was on hand as the grand marshal and also brought nascar driver kyle busch to come have fun!
Early on in the day Kyle Busch came to the speedway and set the track qualifying record for the east/west series race by knocking of the previous record set by Kevin Harvick, then there was a pre-race concert with jason brown and on stage interview with the king richard petty.
The rain came delaying the race start about and hour and a half but when they got go Kyle Busch showed them who was better as even though he went back to mid pack after a round of pit stops he quickly got back to the front and went on to win the Long John Silvers 200 presented by A&W Root Beer. Kyle used this race as a test for the nationwide and truck series races that he may race in!
A good run for Iowa Native Brett Moffitt, a kid that truely has a lot of talent. keep up the good work!
I will try to post pictures to photobucket and put the link up!
