Michehl Won Thriller Hobby Stock Feature at Hamilton County

Webster City, Iowa (April 26th, 2014) – After being rained out the two previous weeks, Saturday Night as the Hamilton County Speedway got his 76th season underway. This year also brings another guy in charge as the "Flyin Electrician" Jason Van Sickel took over for the Hamilton County Fairboard and he was greeted with 77 race teams signed in to race.

Tommy Beekman lead the entire way in the eight lap Oberhelman Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact Feature and completing the sweep as he also won the heat race. Lyle Oberhelman came home in the runner up spot in his only appearance of the season as next week, he will become car owner for his daughter Mackenzie and son Matt. Nick Hogan, Keaton Graffunder and Danny Sassman Jr rounded out the top five.

The Conley's Trucking IMCA Sport Mods feature was caution filled and before one lap was completed the caution came out when three cars got together in turn two. On the restart, Jeremy Embrey jumped to the lead with Bob Sutherland in tow. The caution came out again on lap four and this forced a restart and this time it was Jared Van Deest grabbing the lead away. Van Deest began to pull away and look to be heading on to the easy win but the caution came with two laps to go. Van Deest got a great restart but the caution came out two more times on lap 17 forcing a green-white-checkered finish and making it 19 laps. Van Deest went on to take the win. Sutherland was second, Brandon Toftee was third, Embrey came across in fourth and Jerid Ratzke was fifth.

Matt Mundt and Corey Roe redrew the front row in the Casady Brothers Implement IMCA Hobby Stock 15 lap feature. Mundt grabbed the top spot early but Randy Embrey worked his way by Roe and Danny Ayers and set his sights on Mundt. Just after the completion of lap two the came out when Adam Strunk and Kevin Berger got together on the backstretch. Embrey grabbed the lead way from Mundt on the restart but then the caution came out for the final time on lap six when Bryce Sommerfeld came to a stop in turn two. Embrey continued to lead meanwhile Myles Michehl worked his way up to second from his seventh place starting spot. Michehl and Embrey began to battle for the lead and Michehl grabbed the lead away on lap 11. Michehl went on to take the win on the first night out in the new car. Craig Graham worked his way by Embrey late in the race to finish second with Embrey in third. Mundt and Roe finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Mary Ann's Speciality Foods Stock Cars 18 lap feature saw John Campbell and Damon Murty start on the front row. Campbell grabbed the early lead but Jeff Deal chase him down and grabbed it away on lap five. Deal cruised on to the easy win which he dedicated to his father. Lance Deal came home in runner spot. Campbell was third, Steve Meyer was fourth and Murty was fifth.

Chalfant Plumbing and Neighbors Heating and Cooling IMCA Late Models 20 lap feature saw Racing Veteran Darrel DeFrance and Curt Schroeder on the front row. The initial start was called off but on the restart it was DeFrance grabbing the lead. DeFrance never looked back as he cruised on to the easy win. Schroeder finish second, Ryan Griffith finish third, Todd Cooney came home fourth andd Jason Hahne was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the George White Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature. Two young drivers Chase Ellingson and Nick Roberts lead the field to the green and it would be Roberts grabbing the lead and never looking back as he would win by a full straightaway. Mark Elliott worked his way to second and tried to chase down the youngster but was unable to and settle for second. Ellingson, Greg Elliott and Brandon Leeman rounded out the top five.

Moorman, Brown, Watson, Gustin, Jaennette and Lauritzen Take Checkers First on KMJ Performance Night

Moorman, Brown, Watson, Gustin, Jaennette and Lauritzen Take Checkers First on KMJ Performance Night

Marshalltown, Iowa (April 25th, 2014) –  Mother Nature dropped a lot of rain at the Marshalltown Speedway on Thursday but that did not stop the track crew, they worked the track in to keep the 50th Anniversary season going on Friday Night. There was some great racing all night long on KMJ Performance Night at the Races.

There was only three IMCA Sport Compacts on the night and they produced a very entertaining feature event the entire eight laps. David Moorman grabbed the lead and never looked back to take the win, his first of the young season. John Gill will get Moorman sideways after hitting his rear bumper on the last lap to take second. Aaron Miller came home third.

Charlie Brown and Larry Sorenson started on the front row in the 15 lap Mod Lite feature but it was Brown getting the great start and he began to pull away. Behind Brown there was Jimmy May, Mike Morrill, Andy Hennigar and Josh May battling for position. Brown began to see lap traffic and that did not become a struggle as Brown took the win. Hennigar finished 2nd, Jimmy May was 3rd, Josh May was 4th and Mike Morrill was 5th.

The IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature was a very exciting one as Jason See grabbed the lead on the only lap but Jamie Songer worked his way from fifth starting spot to grab the lead on lap two. Songer and See continued to battle but Eric Stanton joined the fun up front. See took the lead back on laps five and six before Songer took the lead on lap seven. Stanton grabbed the lead away on lap eight but experience troubles on lap nine handing the over John Watson, who worked his way up to the second spot after starting tenth. Watson lead the remaining two laps to take his second of the season at Motown. Songer, See, Brice Udelhoven and Eric Larson rounded out the top five.

After experiencing troubles last week it was Jenae Gustin grabbing the early lead in teh IMCA Sport Mod 18 lap feature. Only to see the caution come out on lap two when three cars got together in turn four. Gustin got a great restart and began to pull away until she caught lap traffic which allowed Clint Luellen to catch and Luellen snuck by on lap nine but Gustin refused to give up as she took the lead back on lap 11. Gustin held off Luellen and hard charging Doug Smith to take the win. Luellen grabbed second, Smith was third, Brandon Brinton was fourth and Sam Wieben was fifth.

The IMCA Stock Cars lived up to their name as the "Class to Tough To Tame" the entire 18 lap feature. As they were racing three and four wide racing. Steve Meyer grabbed the early lead but saw Jay Schmidt and Michael Jaennette came up to join in the fun up front. Schmidt grabbed the lead on lap seven but it was Jaennette edging out Schmidt on lap eight. Jaennette went on to lead the remaining ten laps to take the win over Schmidt, Meyer, Donavon Smith and Trent Murphy.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds feature and for the second week in a row it did not disappoint the fans. The caution came out right after the intial start when Adam Larson and Racer Hulin got together on the front stretch. On the restart it was Andrew Kinser grabbing the lead. Kinser lost the lead on the final race restart after a caution on lap two to Kyle Brown. Brown bobbled and opened  the door for Kinser to get back by. Kinser continued to lead until last week's feature winner Ronn Lauritzen worked his way up to grab the top spot away on lap ten. Lauritzen went on to take the checkered and win over Jon Snyder, Kinser, David Brown and Kyle Krampe.

Next Friday Night the 50th Anniversary Season continues at the Marshalltown Speedway with Johnny Ray's Sports Bar and Grille of Grundy Center Night. Hot Laps at 6:45 p.m. and Racing at 7:30 p.m.

Marshalltown, Iowa (April 18th, 2014) –  Friday Night the IMCA Weekly Racing Series Track points began at the Marshalltown Speedway, that is celebrating its 50th Anniversary, on Kruse Family Night. The pit area saw 130 cars sign in to do battle and they did exactly that as there was great two and three wide racing all night.

First feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Compacts and it was John Gill and Travis Losenicky starting on the front row. Gill grabbed the lead on lap one but Bill Whalen Jr making the long haul from Riverside took the top spot away on lap two. Whalen went on to take the easy win, which he dedicated the win to Merv Chandler. David Moorman was second, Gill came home third, Aaron Miller was fourth and John Walker was fifth.

Up next was the Mod Lites 15 lap feature and before a lap was completed the caution came out when John Schuring had some mechanical issues on the backstretch. Travis Stensland grabbed the lead when the race finally started but it was short lived as Andy Hennigar worked his way from seventh to second only to grab the lead away on lap two. Shortly after the caution came out two more times. Hennigar cruised on to take the win over Stensland, Travis Brandt, Josh May and Joe Glick.

The IMCA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature also saw the caution come out before a lap was completed when Andy Hick spun in turn two and Jamie Songer had no where to go, both would continue. Jason See grabbed the lead from his fourth place starting spot on lap one. See and the field saw a caution come out after the completion of lap four when Riley Songer was facing the wrong way on the backstretch. On the restart, See saw John Watson and Jake Nelson on his back bumper and See had a slip of the grip in turn two allowing Watson to grab the lead. Watson went on to take the win with Eric Stanton who worked his way up to second after starting twelveth. Benji Irvine, Eric Larson and Nelson rounded out the top five.

Justin Medler and Jared VanDeest lead the field to the green flag in the 18 lap IMCA Sport Mod feature and it was VanDeest grabbing the lead. The caution came out after the completion of lap one when Darren Medler and Ryan Ashton got together in turn two. VanDeest would not let the caution bug him as he remained out front only to see the caution come out two more times over the first six laps. VanDeest looked smooth, calm and collective out front as he pulled away only to see lap traffic late in the race. Lap traffic never became a problem as VanDeest went on to take the win. Doug Smith started eleventh and came home in the runner up spot. Clint Luellen, Justin Medler and Travis Peterson rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature saw Brian Irvine and Rookie Devin Smith start on the front row. Irvine took full advantage and grab the lead and pulled away until he encounter lap traffic and then the caution came out when John Emerson came to a rest in turn two. Irvine saw Trent Murphy and Smith on his back bumper but was able to hold them off on this restart and then again four laps later. Irvine went on to take the win, Murphy was second, Donavon Smith was third, Jay Schmidt was fourth and Devin Smith was fifth.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds feature and it did not disappoint everybody in attendance. Troy Cordes got crossed up in turn one and brought the caution before the completion of lap one. Luke Wanninger grabbed the lead on the restart, only to see the caution come out again after the completion of lap one. Another caution came out on lap four, this one would not be so easy for Wanninger as Ronn Lauritzen, who started nineth worked his way up to fourth. Laurtizen got a great restart and two laps later found his way to the lead and began to pull away and saw lap traffic. Lauritzen was only two corners away from seeing the checkered only to see the caution come out forcing a green-white-checkered. Lauritzen held off any challenges to take the win over Adam Larson, Jimmy Gustin, Tyler Droste and Jon Snyder.

Next Friday Night will be KMJ Performance Night at the Marshalltown Speedway. Hot Laps at 6:45 p.m. and Racing at 7:30 p.m.

McCarl Takes Sprint Invaders First Ever Appearance at SIS

Oskaloosa, Iowa (April 16th, 2014) – Wednesday Night at the Southern Iowa Speedway fans witnessed the first ever apperance of the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing 360 Sprint Invaders to the big 1/2 mile. The night was sponsored by Pro-Line Building Company of New Sharon and WCM Metalworks of Winterset also featured the opener of track points.

First feature of the night was the IMCA SportMods feature and it was Brett Lowry redrawing the outside front row and he took advantage to grab the lead and never looking back to take the win. Logan Anderson ran second the entire way with Cory Van Zante settled in to third, Carter VanDenBerg came home fourth and Jason McDaniel was fifth.

In the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature, it was the racing veteran Bill Bonnett grabbing the early lead but just after the completion of lap three the only race caution came out. Bonnett had to contend with several cars including Dustin Griffiths and Mike Hughes. Griffiths grabbed the lead away on lap six from Bonnett but Hughes grabbed it away on lap ten. Hughes took the checkers with Bonnett taking back second. Griffiths was third, Danny Thrasher was fourth and Jamie Songer worked his way up to a top five finish.

Originally scheduled to be the fourth feature out but was moved up because of a possible rain shower nearing the race track was the 20 lap Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders 20 lap feature. Carson McCarl earned the pole after Jonathan Cornell picked the Budweiser can with a four on it. McCarl jumped to the lead and appeared to be going on to the easy win but then lap traffic began to slow him down around the halfway point. This allowed Cornell to catch up to McCarl and begin a battle for the lead. Cornell held off McCarl to take the checkered, however in post-race tech inspection Cornell was disqualifed for a wing infraction that handed the win over to McCarl. Jon Agan was credited with second, Matt Moro was third, Jarrod Schneiderman was fourth and Mike Houseman Jr was fifth.

Just after Cayden Carter was scored the leader in the IMCA Stock Car feature the caution came out when Jason Minnehan had his whole steering column break in turn four. Carter had several heavy hitters behind him on the restart and he was able to hold them off until lap 13 when Zack VanderBeek took the lead away. A lap later the final caution came out when Damon Murty spun in turn one. VanderBeek held on to take the win with Carter finishing second. Brad Pinkerton worked his way up to finish third, Nathan Wood came across in fourth and Donavon Nunnikhoven was fifth.

Final feature of the night was the IMCA Modifieds but before a lap was completed the caution came out for a car sitting in turn one. Just like the week before Cayden Carter jumped to the early lead but Todd Shute chased him down grabbed the lead away on lap seven. Shute never looked back as he took the win by about half the track. Carter held of late race challenges by Jesse Sobbing for second. Luke Wanninger and Scott Dickey rounded out the top five.

Next Wednesday Night will be John's Tree Service and Carter Manufacturing Night featuring a IMCA Sport Mod Special and Season Opener for the IMCA Sport Compacts. Also racing will be the IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Hot Laps at 7:00 p.m. and Racing at 7:30 p.m.
