Eckrich, May and the Smith Brothers win at Boone on Memorial Day!

After taking a day off from going to the races on sunday to watch the exciting finishes to the Indianapolis 500 and then the Coca-Cola 600 it was off to the Boone Speedway for the Annual Deery Brothers Summer Series Memorial Day Special.

The order of events were suppose to be as followed: Heats - Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Late Models, Sport Mods and Stock Cars. Farm Session and then the B-Features for Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods and Stock Cars but mother nature looked like she was ready to spoil it so after the farm session the late models ran their b's and then the hobby stocks ran their b and then the late model feature.

So first up was the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models 40 Lap feature but only after 4 heats, 2 b-features, 3 deery points provisional and a hard charger provisional would determine the field of 24. "The Iron Man" Darrel DeFrance and Andy Eckrich would start on the front row. Eckrich would use the groove right up on the cushion as his perfer line and it prove to be the faster way around the speedway. A few early race cautions would slow the event but the final 28 laps would go caution free and the only thing that slowed down Eckrich was the lap traffic and if there was a few more laps, Eckrich would have had to deal with Ray Guss Jr. Eckrich took the win, Guss was 2nd, Tom Darbyshire was 3rd, Jeff Aikey was 4th and Terry Neal would had to come out of a b would finish 5th.

Then the Sport Mods and Stock Cars would run their b-features and then the final farm session would happen.

After the farming session would be the Heartland Challenge Series Dwarf Cars/Mod Lites for their 18 lap feature. "The Gas Man" Mike Kennedy would lead the first lap. Charlie Brown would take the lead on lap 2 and hold on to the lead until they would encounter lap traffic and here comes De Soto's Josh May. May would slingshot to the top side and make the pass for the lead on lap 8 and never look back in the feature that went green-to-checkered. Finishing behind May was Saturday's Feature winner Colby Oberembt, Charlie Brown, Tim Hennigar and James May.

IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their 15 lap feature. Danny Watson would take the lead on lap 1 but on a restart after a caution on lap 1, Devin Smith would take the lead after restarting 3rd. Smith would cruise to the victory despite another caution on lap 5. Michael Murphy took 2nd, Danny Watson in 3rd, Eric Stanton was 4th and Jason Kohl was 5th.

In the IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature it was Cody Warrick taking the early race lead. Warrick and the field would see the only yellow flag on lap 7 this would bunch the field back up. Warrick still would remain out front until lap 10 when Brian Miller got by when Warrick had some mechanical issues. Miller held the top spot until Doug Smith would make the pass for the lead on lap 14. Smith took the win, Brian Miller was 2nd, Andy Tiernan was 3rd, Scott Davis was 4th and Mike Pruitt was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the IMCA Stock Car 20 lap feature. "Silver Bullet" Andy Bryant would take command early but then he and the field would see 2 cautions, one on lap 4 and then one on lap 5. On the restart of the lap 5 caution Bryant would be passed by Boone's Wayne Gifford. Gifford would hold on to the top spot until lap 11 when Donavon Smith would take lead. Gifford would make the pass back on Smith on lap 16 and then after that the caution came out for a pile up in turn 1 & 2. On the restart Gifford would lose the handle in turn 1 but get going but the caution would come out for debris in turn 1 & 2 so Gifford get the lead back but on the 2nd restart Gifford would lose the lead to Smith. Smith take the win with Gifford in 2nd, Alan Van Gorp was 3rd, David Smith was 4th and Jay Schmidt was 5th.

Racing action came to and end at 9:54p. Racing returns to the Boone Speedway on Saturday with Hot Laps at 6:45p and Racing at 7:30p.

Special thanks to Race Track Announcer Johnnie Tharp, IMCA, Robert and Bea Lawton it was a lot of fun at Iowa's Action Track the Boone Speedway.

Elliott Remains Perfect In the Stock Cars at the Historic Hamilton County Speedway

After 2 previous nights at the races i decided to make it 3 nights in a row by making the trek from Marshalltown to the Historic Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City with a 120 cars signed in to do battle.

After Hot Laps for the Stock Cars, Modifieds and Late Models it was time for the Make-up features and first out Chalfant Plumbing Stock Cars for 15 laps. Reid Keller would take the early lead but "Terminator" Mark Elliott would make the pass on lap 6 and go on and take the win in the green-to-checkered feature. Keller was 2nd, Jason Wagoner was 3rd, Scott Bloemke was 4th and Jim Mitchell was 5th.

George White Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds were up next for their 20 lap make-up feature. The oringinal start was called back and when they did get going it was "The Flyin Banana" Mike Jergans taking the lead. Jergans would hold that lead until lap 11 when Richie Gustin would make the pass for the lead. A lap later on lap 12 a caution came out for JD Auringer and Scott Olson getting together and then 5 laps later on lap 17 for debris in turn 4. Gustin would still manage to take the win. Justin Sackett, Jergans, Jeremy Mills and Jon Snyder would finish 2nd through 5th.

In the Fort Dodge Ford IMCA Late Models 25 laps make-up feature, they would see the yellow coming out for a car getting turned around on the front stretch. When the race got going it was veteran Craig Jacobs taking the top spot but then the caution again would come out on lap 2 for Scott Badker losing the handle in turn 2 and then on the restart they had a red flag for a pile up that was blocking the race track in turn 3 & 4.  Jacobs wouldn't let them bother him and would begin to stretch his lead and start lapping cars when the final race caution came out on lap 12 for Ryan Griffith, who blew up and dumped a lot of fluid. Jacobs would get a good restart and do the exact same and go on to the win. "Iron Man" Darrel DeFrance, Kyle Wahlert, Al Johnson and "Hollywood" Jason Hahne would all finish behind Jacobs.

After those features were completed they did a little track work by pulling out the box grader and grader some of the race track where there was rough spots like in turn 1 and turn 3. Also they had scheduled hot laps for Hornets, Hobby Stocks and Sport Mods after the make-up features but decided to scratch that and just begin racing so after all the heats and a Sport Mod B-feature it was feature time.

The First regular feature of the night was the Hornets 6 lap feature. Jarid Kuchenreuther would take the lead but Adam Strunk would make the pass for lead on lap 4 and go on and take the win in the green-white-checkered feature. Mike McFarland would finish 2nd, Kuchenreuther was 3rd, Daniel Ayers was 4th and Devin Collins was 5th.

McDonald's IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for 12 laps and it was Blake Miller taking the early race lead. Miller would be passed by Craig Graham on lap 3 though. After that the next 4 laps had 1 caution each lap, first one on lap 4 for a pile-up in turn 2, second one on lap 5 for a car losing the handle, third one on lap 6 for Miller and Robert See would make contact with each other,  fourth one on lap 7 for a driveshaft on the front stretch meanwhile on the restart of the lap 6 caution it was Kevin Fee taking the lead away from Graham. 2 laps later the final race caution came out on lap 9 for Adam Hagan coming to a stop on the frontstretch. Fee took the victory, Brad Ratcliff got 2nd, Robert See would end up 3rd, Graham fell back to 4th and Corey Roe was 5th.

It took 4 heats and a b-feature to get the field down from 28 to 24 in the Conley's Trucking IMCA Sport Mods. It was Oskaloosa's Cayden Carter taking the spot early in the 15 lap feature and not looking back despite cautions on lap 5 and 9. Carter would get the win and Jeremy Embrey would get 2nd. Carter Vandenberg, Matt Lettow and Duane Van Deest rounded out the top 5.

Chalfant Plumbing Stock Cars was up next for 15 laps. Dennis Plain would lead the first 2 laps but "Terminator" Mark Elliott would make the pass on lap 3 and go on and take the win in the green-to-checkered feature, Elliott would get his 2nd of the night and 4th in a row in the Stock Cars. Jason Wagoner, Travis Prochaska, Jim Mitchell and Dennis Plain finish 2nd through 5th behind Elliott.

George White Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds for 20 laps came out. Jeremy Mills would take the lead and not look back despite many challenges and 3 race cautions. First caution came out on lap 8 when a car got in the front stretch wall. 2nd caution came out on lap 12 for a car going around and the final caution was on lap 17 for debris. Mills would still manage to take the win. J.D. Auringer was 2nd, Richie Gustin was 3rd, Adam Larson was 4th and Todd Shute was 5th.

The Final feature of the night was the Fort Dodge Fort IMCA Late Models for 25 laps. This feature was caution filled before the halfway point and before 1 lap was in the books a caution came out. When racing got going it was Ben Nading in the lead. Todd Cooney would make the pass on lap 9 and take the victory, Nading would finish 2nd. Ryan Giles, Craig Jacobs and Darrel DeFrance was 3rd through 5th.

Racing started at 6p and came to and end at 11:11p. Racing returns to the "Historic" Hamilton County Speedway next saturday with Hot Laps at 6p and Racing to Follow.

Special thanks to the Hamilton County Fairboard, Track Manger Larry Flaws and the Hamilton County Speedway for a great night of racing at the Historic Speedway it was a lot fun. For more information, results and points check out http://www.hamiltoncospeedway.com/

After 2 weeks off because mother nature won it look at the beginning of the night would be 3 weeks in a row but we waited it out and the skies cleared and we went racing at the highbanks of Marshalltown.

First feature of the night was the O'Reilly Auto Parts where 13 cars took the green flag for 15 laps. Charlie Brown would lead the first lap but it was only short lived as Tim Hennigar would make the pass on lap 2. Brown then would come back and take the lead on lap 3 but again it was short lived as Josh May would take the top spot on lap 4. Then the first of 2 race cautions came out for Tim Hennigar coming to a stop in turn 2. May got a great restart and went on to the win despite a caution coming out on lap 14 for Joel Huggins in turn 3 which forced a green-white-checkered finish and the feature would now be 16 laps instead. Mike Morrill, Andy Hennigar, Mike Kennedy and Michael Parcel rounded out the top 5 behind May.

In the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods where 26 cars where signed in 25 of them would make the call for their 15 lap feature. Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars where up next with 18 cars taking to the track for 18 laps. Steve Meyer would take command and not look back despite a caution on lap 5 for Jamie Schirm going around in turn 2, then 2 cautions on lap 9 first from Daniel Schneider coming to a stop on the backstretch and then for the restart being called back. Meyer would go on to the win, Damon Murty was 2nd, Jay Schmidt was 3rd, Trent Murphy was 4th and Jeff Wollam was 5th.

The Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds was up next for 20 laps all 14 cars that signed in would take the green flag. Duane Peterson would lead the first few laps only to see the first caution come out on lap 3 which resulted in a red flag. When racing got resumed Peterson still resume command out front only to get passed by Josh Truman on lap 10. The final race caution came out on lap 12 for Kyle Krampe and Derek Reimer in turn 4. Truman would remain out front but Jon Snyder was coming on the top side and Snyder would make the pass coming off turn 4 to take the victory from Truman. Adam Larson would finish 3rd behind Truman and Snyder, Jimmy Gustin was 4th and Peterson was 5th.

Wood, Hare and Mather take the wins at Highway 3 Raceway

This year i decided to stay back to work at Marshalltown Speedway in Friday so that freed me up to be able to go racing in iowa so i decided to make my 2nd visit of 2011 to the "Home of the Giant Tenderloin" Highway 3 Raceway in Allison, Iowa at the Butler County Fairgrounds.

On this night there was the United States Modified Touring Series, Iron Man Challenge Series for USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods plus 20 year NASCAR Veteran Kenny Schrader was on hand to race with the USMTS and sign autographs thanks to Roling Ford.

109 cars signed in to compete in 3 classes. There was 29 United States Modified Touring Series Modifieds, 44 Iron Man Challenge for USRA B-Mods and 36 Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars.

First feature of the night was the Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars for 20 laps but that was only after 5 heats and 2 b-features help dwindle the field down from 36 to 26 cars for the feature. Steve Jackson would start in the 2nd row but would lead lap 1. Tory Reicks from Waucoma would take the lead on lap 2 but then the caution would come out on lap 2 for Randy Killen going around in turn 4, Mark Massey and Dennis Plain made contact. A Lap later another caution would come out this time for Mike Van Genderen losing the handle in turn 4. Reicks wouldn't let those cautions bother him but he would have to deal with Matt Greiner and Steve Jackson on the restart. Kevin Donlan would make the pass for the lead on lap 5 and then another race caution would come out on lap 5 for Tom Killen stoping in turn 1. Another caution would come out on lap 9 this time for Mark Elliott losing the handle in turn 4. The final race caution came out on lap 12 for Jason Minnehan losing the handle in turn 4. On the restart though Donlan would have to do battle with Dan Christopher and Nathan Wood. Christopher would take the lead on lap 13 but fall back to 10th place in the end, Nathan Wood would make the pass for the lead on lap 15 and go on and take the win. Reicks, Donlan, Van Genderen and Trimble rounded out the top 5.

Next up was the Iron Man Challenge for USRA B-Mods for 15 laps but that was also after 5 heats and 2 b-features helped get the field down from 44 to 24 cars. Brian Schrage from Cresco would take the early lead and hold on to it until the cautions came out on lap 6, the first caution was for 2 cars getting together in turn 4 and then on the restart for a car coming to a stop in turn 2. On the restart Schrage would have to deal with Jimmy Broszeit, Broszeit would make the pass on lap 10 and would cross the line in first but in post race tech was disqualifed for illegal parts. Brandon Hare would cross in 2nd and be credited with the win, Schrage crossed in 3rd but was also disqualifed so that moved up Bob Sutherland to 2nd.  Tyler Droste, Mike Shelton and Matt Lettow was 3rd through 5th.

The final feature was suppose to be 30 laps for the United States Modified Touring Series but after 2 cautions happen before the race got a lap completed the race was shorten to 25 laps. The first caution would result in a red flag as Keith Foss would roll his car in the middle of turn 3 & 4 and then Johnny Scott came to a stop in turn 2 on the restart. When the race did get going Eric Dailey from Armstrong would take the lead but on lap 3, he was black flagged for smoke so that would hand the lead over to Ryan Gustin. Gustin's lead would be short lived as Colt Mather would take the lead on lap 5. 2 more cautions came out on lap 8 for a Tommy Myer coming to a stop in turn 2 and then for Shane DeMey coming to a stop in turn 2. Mather wouldn't let them bother him but Gustin would take a few laps and get the top side to work in and he would make the pass for the lead on lap 13 again and hold on to it until lap 18 but a caution came out on lap 17 for Ryan Schaffer would stop in turn 4.  Mather would take the lead back on lap 19 and not look back despite a caution on lap 23 for Chris Speiker coming to a stop in turn 2. This would set up a green-white-checkered finish and it was still Webster's Colt Mather taking the win, "The Reaper" Ryan Gustin was 2nd, "The Z Man" Zack Vanderbeek was 3rd, "Happy" Rodney Sanders was 4th and "A-Train" Al Hejna was 5th.

Racing action came to an end at 11:23pm about 1 hour and 23 minutes past the curfew but thanks to the City of Allison for allowing the races to continue despite that but from my understanding since the races were sponsored by Butler County Fair Association as well it was a big deal.

Next race at Highway 3 Raceway in Allison is next Wednesday June 1st when the IMCA Modifieds take to the big 1/2 mile for a $1,000 to win IMCA Modified Special plus USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks. Gates Open at 5p, Hot Laps at 6:30p and Racing at 7p.

Next race for the Iron Man Challenge Series will be at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota on Saturday where the USRA Stock Cars will be running for their Iron Man Challenge Series Points. B-Mods next Iron Man Challenge Series will be Sunday June 12th at Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minnesota.
Special Thanks to Art Krull and the Highway 3 Raceway Committee, Todd Staley, Janet Staley, Jeff Nun and Ryne Staley for letting me attend. Moffitt and Stenhouse Jr Take Wins at the Iowa Speedway

My weekend destination was the Iowa Speedway for the 1st of 4 race weekends at the Speedway. This weekend at the annual NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West Challenge and the first of 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series Races this year at  Iowa.

On Saturday, both series saw their practice and qualifying schedules modified. The NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying was cancelled and would be lined up by Owner Points on Sunday. In NASCAR K&N Pro Series Qualifying it was Matt DiBenedetto taking the pole.

In the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East/West Challenge Pork Be Inspired 175 by Tompkins Industries. DiBenedetto would take the lead but just after the field completed 4 laps the caution came out for a spinning in turn 2. DiBenedetto wouldn't let it faze him as he would again take the lead but then the 2nd race caution came out on lap 13 for a car in turn 3. On the restart it was Grimes, Iowa Native Brett Moffitt getting a good restart and taking over the top spot from DiBenedetto on lap 19 but DiBenedetto would take it back on lap 20. Moffitt would then make the pass on lap 23 and hold on to it for a while despite cautions on lap 29, 36 and 44. Moffitt would hold on to the lead until lap 85 when DiBenedetto took it back, Moffitt would regain the lead though on lap 88 when DiBenedetto would have a tire got down and get into the turn 2 wall before rolling to a stop in turn 3 to bring out the caution. Moffitt would make a pit stop so that would hand the lead over to Chad Boat. Boat would then come in on lap 96 so that would give the lead over to Benny Gordon. Gordon would hold on to the lead until lap 106 when Moffitt took the lead back despite a caution on lap 148. Moffitt would go on to the win in from of his home state crowd. Max Gresham was 2nd, Eddie MacDonald was 3rd, Greg Pursley was 4th and David Mayhew was 5th.

On Sunday the NASCAR Nationwide Series held their first of 2 races at Iowa Speedway and the Inaugural John Deere Dealers of Iowa 250 presented by Pioneer. Michael McDowell and Drew Herring were the front row because of lining up by owner points. Herring would take the lead and lead the first 37 laps before being passed by team mate Michael McDowell. McDowell would lead until the caution came out on lap 52 for a competition caution. Reed Sorenson would take the lead after everybody made pit stops. Sorenson would hold on to the top spot despite a caution on lap 111 for a car hitting the wall in turn 2 and then again on lap 118 when a spun on the backstretch. Sorenson would get a good restart but see the caution come out on lap 130 for a car spinning in turn 2. On the restart, Brad Keselowski would take the lead on lap 134 but then Carl Edwards took the lead on lap 135. Keselowski would make the pass for the lead on lap 136. Ricky Stenhouse Jr took the lead on lap 165, Edwards on lap 177, Stenhouse again on lap 179, Edwards again on lap 182. Stenhouse Jr again on lap 194, Edwards on lap 201, Stenhouse Jr on lap 207, Edwards on lap 208. Herring took the lead on lap 209 then Justin Allgaier on lap 211. The final race caution came out on lap 220 for a car getting in to the turn 1 wall. On the restart Edwards would take the lead back but on lap 233 it was Ricky Stenhouse Jr making the pass for the lead again.

May, Churchill, Smith and Eckrich Winners at Marshalltown!

It was time for the much anticipated show at Marshalltown when the Deery Brothers Summer Series would be on hand to hold their 21st event on the high banked oval. 111 race teams signed in too do battle on Tuesday Night.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites would be up first for 15 laps, 15 Mod Lites would sign in and all made the call. Mike Morrill would jump out to the early lead but Charlie Brown would take the lead from Morrill on lap 2. Just as it look like Brown was getting confortable in the lead the caution came out on lap 4. This would allow Josh May took start on the back bumper of Brown and make the pass for the lead. May would then see the caution come out on lap 6 but it wouldn't bother him as he would go on and take the win. Morrill got 2nd, Andy Hennigar was 3rd, Dusty Masolini was 4th and Tim Hennigar was 5th.

After 2 Sport Mod B-Features and 2 Late Model B-Features it was time for the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks feature for 15 Laps. Steve Churchill from Des Moines would lead the race from start-to-finish in the green-to-checkered feature and win it by a full straightaway. Bret Moyer was 2nd, Ed Nelson was 3rd, Russ Byriel was 4th and Brad Moyer was 5th.

The Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature only after the field was dwindle down from 45 to 24 for the feature. Scott Davis would take the lead early but see the caution come out for the first time on lap 1. Davis would have a good restart though and look to be going on to the win when the caution came out on lap 13. This would bunch the field up behind Davis and on the restart Davis would be passed by Doug Smith. Just after Smith took the lead the final race caution came out on lap 15. Smith manage to go on and take the win, Davis was 2nd, Tyler Droste was 3rd, Carter Vandenberg was 4th and Clint Luellen was 5th.

IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models "Miller Lite 50" was the final feature of the night. Took 4 heats, 2 b-features and some provisionals to get the field down to just 24. Andy Eckrich and "Ironman" Darrel DeFrance would redraw the front row. Eckrich would take the lead but just after 2 laps in books 2 cautions would come out. Eckrich then would begin to pull away and would hit lap traffic on lap 12 but the caution would fly for the final time 10 laps later. Eckrich would now have to worry about Tom Darbyshire and Tyler Bruening on his back bumper. Eckrich would get a good restart and start to pull away and again the only thing that would slow Eckrich would be the lap traffic which he hit on lap 35. Eckrich would go on and take the win, Tom Darbyshire was 2nd, Tyler Bruening was 3rd, Ray Guss Jr was 4th and Matt Strassheim was 5th.

Racing started at 7p and finished at 10:22p. A great night of racing and we hope to see you back at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday where Hot Laps at 6:45p and Racing at 7:30p.

Kastli, VanGenderen, Broszeit and Schroeder Wins at Highway 3 Raceway

I decided to make the hour drive north to the Butler County Fairgrounds and the Highway 3 Raceway for some racing action on the big 1/2 mile. The Highway 3 Raceway has 7 races scheduled on the season.

54 cars would sign in to do battle on the half mile, 16 Late Models, 21 B-Mods, 7 Hobbys, 10 Stock Cars. IMCA Late Models were running for National and State IMCA Points meanwhile the USRA Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks were running for Track and National USRA Points.

First feature up for the night was the 15 Lap USRA Stock Car Feature were the "Flyin Dutchman" Mike Van Genderen from Newton would lead the feature from start to finish in the green-to-checkered feature. Tom Schmitt would try numerous times to get by Van Genderen but all of them would fail and he would end up settling for 2nd. Tory Reicks was 3rd, Shay Curtin was 4th and Jeremy Crimmins was 5th.

USRA B-Mods were up next for their 15 Lap feature were Jimmy Broszeit from Postville would lead the feature from green-to-checkered. Carter Vandenberg from Oskaloosa was 2nd, Cayden Carter was 3rd, Tyler Droste was 4th and Jamey Ayers was 5th.

The IMCA Late Models were up next for their 25 lap feature during this special. Before 1 lap was completed though Chad Cooney would get in the wall off turn 2 resulting in a straight up restart. "Kazz" Greg Kastli would jump out to the lead and look to be pulling away but then the caution came out after 4 laps were completed, this caution was for Jon Merfeld getting in the turn 2 wall. On the restart, Kastli would do what he did before and pull away. Kastli would take the win meanwhile Jeff Aikey and Todd Cooney would battle for 2nd and 3rd, Aikey was 2nd and Cooney was 3rd. Travis Smock was 4th and Terry Neal, who was in a borrow car was 5th.

The final feature of the night was USRA Hobby Stocks 12 lap feature. Just like the Stock Cars and B-Mods this feature would go green-to-checkered with Stac Schroeder taking the win, Austin Wolfgram in 2nd, Adam Gebel was 3rd, Steve Wiltse was 4th and Eric Larson was 5th.

Vern Jackson Wins HDT at Benton County Speedway

After having fun following the Hawkeye Dirt Tour a lot last year i decided to make the trek to "The Birthplace of IMCA Modifieds" the Benton County Speedway in Vinton. Where 44 IMCA Modifieds signed in to do battle tonight, 16 IMCA Sport Mods and 13 IMCA Sport Compacts.

IMCA Sport Compacts were up first for 12 lap feature. Bill Whalen Jr would lead the first 5 laps but be passed by Brad Chandler, who was driving a car normally driven by Bryce Bailey on lap 6. Brad Chandler would go on and take the win in the caution free event with Whalen in 2nd, Nathan Chandler was 3rd, Brett Vanous was 4th and Steve Miedke was 5th.

When the Sport Compacts were completed the Modifieds B-Features were run. Ryan Dolan, Kellen Chadwick and Ronn Lauritzen took the wins in the Modifieds B-Features.

IMCA Sport Mods were up next for 15 laps. It was Pole Position starter and Hometown Hero Danny Dvorak jumping to the lead but there was 2 cautions in the feature on lap 2 and 3 for a couple of cars spinning in turn 2. Dvorak would'nt worry until a few laps to go when 9th place starter Austin Kaplan would challenge for the lead and infact i had Kaplan taking the lead on lap 14 only to lose it the next lap to Dvorak. Dvorak won and Kaplan was 2nd meanwhile Carter Vandenberg, Joel Rust and Jake Strayer rounded out the top 5.

Final feature of the night was the 30 lap feature for the IMCA Modifieds and the Hawkeye Dirt Tour Opener but this would only come after 5 heats, 3 b-features and 2 provisionals would set the field at 24 cars, only 21 cars would make the call though. Before a lap was completed a car would spin out in turn 2 restacking the field. On the restart it was Larry Herring taking the lead but then another caution came out for 3 cars spinning out in turn 4. Herring would still remain out front but Vern Jackson would take the lead on lap 4 but that was short lived though as Mitch Morris took the lead on lap 5. 2 more cautions would come out on lap 7 and 19 for cars having some kinda of problems in turn 2. On the restart, Jackson would do battle with Morris and get by Morris on lap 21 and go on and take the win, Morris was 2nd. Ryan Dolan, Kellen Chadwick and Mark Elliott was 3rd through 5th.

Racing came to a finish at 9:55p. Great racing surface tonight a lot better than what it was when i was last there a few weeks ago.

May, Brown, Irvine, Larson and Knutson Winners on KMJ Performance Night

We would have a 101 race cars sign in to do battle on KMJ Performance Night at the Races. On this night not only would we have great racing action but we would also have to dodge the rain drops of mother nature. All the races were completed despite rain drops coming down and lightening to the north.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites 15 lap feature was up first but before the field was able to complete a lap a car would go around in turn 4. When the race got going it was Travis Stensland taking the early lead but that would be short lived as Josh May would take over the lead on lap 3 and shortly after the yellow would come out for a couple of cars spinning. May wouldn't let that bother him but this would only begin the battle as he would have Mike Morrill on his back bumper on the restart. The final race caution came out on lap 9 for a car spinning in turn 4 but May would continue to get good restarts and go on and take the win with Morrill, Andy Hennigar, Joel Huggins and Dusty Masolini in spots 2nd through 5th.

After 4 heats and a b-feature the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA Sport Mods were dwindle down to 24 cars from the 30 signed in for their 15 laps. It would be this feature that mother nature would try to make her presence first. Jayme Duinink would lead the first lap only to have Nick Roberts take the top spot. The first caution came out on lap 4 for a car losing the handle in turn 2. Roberts would still be able to control the field and lead until lap 9 when Cayden Carter would make the pass.

Carter would see the yellow come out on lap 12 three times, first for a car in turn 4 and debris, second for himself blowing up in turn 4, third time for a couple of cars in turn 2. With Carter blowing up that would hand the lead over to Beau Kaplan. Kaplan's lead was short lived as Kyle Brown would make the pass on the white flag lap and take the win. Kaplan was 2nd, Tyler Droste was 3rd, Racer Hulin was 4th and Scott Davis was 5th.

In the Mike's Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap feature it was Rob Schneider would lead lap 1. Jay Schmidt would make the pass on lap 2 for the lead and a lap later the first of 3 cautions would come for a car going around in turn 4. Schmidt would then begin to pull away but would see the caution come out on lap 7 for a couple of cars in turn 3 & 4 which resulted in Trent Murphy rolling his car off the top. Schmidt and the field would again see the caution come out 3 laps later and this would put Brian Irvine on Schmidt's bumper. Irvine would live up to "Flyin Brian" as he would get by Schmidt on lap 11 and pull away, Schmidt took 2nd. Donavon Smith was 3rd, Michael Jaennette was 4th, Kevin Rose was 5th.

Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds were up next for their 20 lap feature. "Toddzilla" Todd Shute would lead the first lap but it was "Showtime" Jon Snyder would make the pass on lap 2. Snyder would have to worry about the cautions coming out on lap 5 and 6 for a couple cars going around in turn 2. Snyder would then have to worry about Adam Larson and Jimmy Gustin. Larson would make the pass on Snyder on lap 7 and the only thing that would slow him down was a caution on lap 10 for Josh Truman catching fire and coming to a stop in turn 4 which also collected Rick Speck. Larson took the win and was followed by Gustin, Snyder, David Brown and Joel Bushore.

The final feature on the night was the IMCA Hobby Stocks for 12 laps and this feature would bring a lot excitement that included at times 3 and 4 wide racing. Scott Durlin leading the first lap but his lead would be short as  he was passed by Tony Cox on lap 2. Brandon Brinton would make the pass on Cox for the lead on lap 4 and shortly after the yellow came out 2 twice on lap 4 for a couple of cars spinning around. On the restart it was Eric Knutson taking the lead from Brinton and shortly after that happened a couple of cars came to a stop in turn 2. Knutson would go on and win back-to-back weeks. Durlin, Michael Murphy, Donavon Nunnikhoven and Kevin Fee finished 2nd through 5th.

The final checkered flag flew at 10:15pm putting end to KMJ Performance Night at the Races.

Next Friday Night will be the Annual Cliff Chambers Memorial with Pits Opening at 5:15p, Grandstands at 5:30p, Hot Laps at 6:45p and Racing at 7:30p. That will only start the busy week as Tuesday May 17th the Deery Brothers Summer Series comes to town for their Miller Lite 50 also racing will be the Mod Lites, Sport Mods and Dirt Trucks.

Auringer takes $1100 for His Winning Effort at The Historic Hamilton County Speedway

After raining out the season opener the week before the Hamilton County Speedway was very happy to get started after a long 2 months. This year the Hamilton County Speedway is under the promotion of the Hamilton County Fairboard and they hired Larry Flaws to be the Track Manager.

The 2nd track of the weekend that i know wasn't able to get on the track until the day before racing because the track was so wet and soupy but they worked their butt off and got the track in shape for a great night of racing at The Historic Hamilton County Speedway. They would get started a little later than they wanted too with a 106 cars signed in to do battle on the 1/2 mile,  last year according to Track Announcer "Berg" Ryan Bergeson their highest number was 91 cars so its a good start to the season.

First feature of the night was the Hornets feature. Adam Strunk, who was too familiar to victory lane at the speedway last year look to be on his way to the win in the 8 lap feature but then the only race caution came out on lap 5 when a couple cars got together in turn 4. Strunk would resume command but he would have his hands ful as he would have to do battle with 3 other cars. Strunk was passed on the last lap by Mike McFarland. McFarland would take the win, Devin Collins was 2nd and Adam Strunk was 3rd, Lyle Oberhelman was 4th and Daniel Ayers was 5th. There was 10 total hornets signed in.

McDonald's IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their feature. Before they could get a lap in the books there was not 1 but 2 cautions for cars going around on the race track. Once the race got going it was Kevin Fee that took the race lead and began to pull away only to see the caution come out on lap 5 for a couple cars getting together in turn 4. Fee and the cars still on the track would get another lap in the books only to see the caution wave 2 more times on lap 6 for 2 cars spinning in turn 2. Fee would not let them bother him but then we would see the caution come out again on lap 8 for Nate Bonin coming to a stop on the frontstretch. After this caution it was deemed that they would cut the race to 10 laps instead of the scheduled 12 because it was 25 minutes to complete 8. Fee will still be able to control the field on the green-white-checkered restart and made the long pull from Knoxville worth it, Heath Tulp from Belmond took 2nd, Bobby Dilley was 3rd, Corey Roe was 4th and Mark Hidlebaugh was 5th. 14 McDonald's IMCA Hobby Stocks were on hand.

Conley Trucking IMCA Sport Mods would then come out for their feature, 24 cars signed in to do battle. "Downtown" Kyle Brown would take the race lead and look to be in control and then the first race caution came out on lap 3 for a car coming to a stop on the frontstretch, 2nd race caution came out on lap 5 for a car coming to a stop in turn 2. Brown and the field would get another lap completed only to see the caution come out on lap 6 for 7 cars getting together coming off turn 2. So because it took time to clean that up it was deem this feature would be a 10 lap feature also instead of a 12 lap feature but Brown would not let that bother him as he would cruise on to the win. Joel Rust, Jared Timmerman, "Rockstar" Rocky Caudle and Bryon Weyer rounded out the top 5.

"Class to Tough To Tame" Chalfant Plumbing Stock Cars were up next for 15 laps where 15 cars were set to do battle. Before they could get 1 lap in the books 2 cautions came out for 2 different cars spinning around in turn 1. Once the race got going it was "Terminator" Mark Elliott lead the race from start to finish. Tory Reicks was 2nd, Jason Wagoner was 3rd, Mark Haglund was 4th and Mitch Hovden was 5th.

George White Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds 20 lap feature was rolling on to the speedway next where 25 cars would compete for $1100 thanks to the Hamilton County Fairboard and DandyLand Farms. Before 1 lap was completed their was 2 cautions for cars going around in turns 3 & 4. On the restart it was David Brown taking early control but JD Auringer would reel down Brown and take the lead on lap 6 and then begin to pull away. Then 2 more cautions came out on lap 15 and 18 for cars going around in turn 4 and turn 2 respectively. Auringer wouldn't let them bother him and go on and take the win, Brown would take 2nd, Adam Larson was 3rd, Jay Noteboom was 4th and Justin Sackett was 5th.

The final feature of the night was the Fort Dodge Ford IMCA Late Models orginally slated for 25 laps but cut to 20 laps because of how late it was. Before a lap was completed there would be a 4 car pile up on the frontstretch. After this caution a few drivers were concerned with the track so the track crew decided to have a couple hot laps to get some of the loose stuff off the top. When they resumed racing it was Defending Track Champion "The Iron Man" Darrel DeFrance taking the lead and was beginning to pull away from the field but then the caution came out on lap 5 for a couple cars getting together in turn 2. DeFrance wouldn't let that bother him but would have Jeff Aikey and Kyle Wahlert on his back bumper but DeFrance had the advantage on the restart. The only thing that would slow DeFrance down was the lap traffic and this allowed Aikey to get close but not close enough as DeFrance would take the win. Aikey took 2nd, "Chargin" Charlie McKenna was 3rd, Todd Cooney was 4th nad Kyle Wahlert was 5th. 18 total Late Models were signed in to do battle on the big 1/2 mile.

Racing action came to an end at 11:45pm a lot later than they wanted but it happens in racing. Hamilton County Speedway is racing every Saturday Night through July 30th. For Complete Results and more information  about the Hamilton County Speedway check out http://www.hamiltoncospeedway.com/
