After taking a day off from going to the races on sunday to watch the exciting finishes to the Indianapolis 500 and then the Coca-Cola 600 it was off to the Boone Speedway for the Annual Deery Brothers Summer Series Memorial Day Special.
The order of events were suppose to be as followed: Heats - Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Late Models, Sport Mods and Stock Cars. Farm Session and then the B-Features for Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods and Stock Cars but mother nature looked like she was ready to spoil it so after the farm session the late models ran their b's and then the hobby stocks ran their b and then the late model feature.
So first up was the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Models 40 Lap feature but only after 4 heats, 2 b-features, 3 deery points provisional and a hard charger provisional would determine the field of 24. "The Iron Man" Darrel DeFrance and Andy Eckrich would start on the front row. Eckrich would use the groove right up on the cushion as his perfer line and it prove to be the faster way around the speedway. A few early race cautions would slow the event but the final 28 laps would go caution free and the only thing that slowed down Eckrich was the lap traffic and if there was a few more laps, Eckrich would have had to deal with Ray Guss Jr. Eckrich took the win, Guss was 2nd, Tom Darbyshire was 3rd, Jeff Aikey was 4th and Terry Neal would had to come out of a b would finish 5th.
Then the Sport Mods and Stock Cars would run their b-features and then the final farm session would happen.
After the farming session would be the Heartland Challenge Series Dwarf Cars/Mod Lites for their 18 lap feature. "The Gas Man" Mike Kennedy would lead the first lap. Charlie Brown would take the lead on lap 2 and hold on to the lead until they would encounter lap traffic and here comes De Soto's Josh May. May would slingshot to the top side and make the pass for the lead on lap 8 and never look back in the feature that went green-to-checkered. Finishing behind May was Saturday's Feature winner Colby Oberembt, Charlie Brown, Tim Hennigar and James May.
IMCA Hobby Stocks were up next for their 15 lap feature. Danny Watson would take the lead on lap 1 but on a restart after a caution on lap 1, Devin Smith would take the lead after restarting 3rd. Smith would cruise to the victory despite another caution on lap 5. Michael Murphy took 2nd, Danny Watson in 3rd, Eric Stanton was 4th and Jason Kohl was 5th.
In the IMCA Sport Mods 20 lap feature it was Cody Warrick taking the early race lead. Warrick and the field would see the only yellow flag on lap 7 this would bunch the field back up. Warrick still would remain out front until lap 10 when Brian Miller got by when Warrick had some mechanical issues. Miller held the top spot until Doug Smith would make the pass for the lead on lap 14. Smith took the win, Brian Miller was 2nd, Andy Tiernan was 3rd, Scott Davis was 4th and Mike Pruitt was 5th.
The final feature of the night was the IMCA Stock Car 20 lap feature. "Silver Bullet" Andy Bryant would take command early but then he and the field would see 2 cautions, one on lap 4 and then one on lap 5. On the restart of the lap 5 caution Bryant would be passed by Boone's Wayne Gifford. Gifford would hold on to the top spot until lap 11 when Donavon Smith would take lead. Gifford would make the pass back on Smith on lap 16 and then after that the caution came out for a pile up in turn 1 & 2. On the restart Gifford would lose the handle in turn 1 but get going but the caution would come out for debris in turn 1 & 2 so Gifford get the lead back but on the 2nd restart Gifford would lose the lead to Smith. Smith take the win with Gifford in 2nd, Alan Van Gorp was 3rd, David Smith was 4th and Jay Schmidt was 5th.
Racing action came to and end at 9:54p. Racing returns to the Boone Speedway on Saturday with Hot Laps at 6:45p and Racing at 7:30p.
