This year the Southern Iowa Speedway return back to IMCA for the first time in 8 years and it now has complete 3 months of racing with only a couple of rain outs this season and 1 show cut short because of mother nature forcing double feature the following week.
The overall grade i would give it would be an A as the racing has been great all season long and the fans started to fill the stands every week. Several special activites have gotten the fans involved and excited week after week thanks to the creative brain of Promoter Mike Van Genderen and the Southern Iowa Fairboard.
I get a chance to chat with many people on race nights and they extremely happy with how thanks are going this year compared to the past couple of years and happy to see all of the excitement back at the speedway for the first time in a while.
This season there has been 171 different drivers signed in to do battle at the Mahaska County Monster not including the frostbuster with 30 different modifieds, 35 Stock cars, 42 sport mods, 44 hobby stocks and 20 sport compacts and that is already more than the last 2 years.

Chandler, Gibson, Griffiths, Reitzler and Davis win on Titan Machinery Night
With temperatures soaring to near 100 degrees it was a nice hot night
for racing at the historic Southern Iowa Speedway but of coarse not
everything would be entirely good with the hot temperatures. As many
people started to arrive to the track they saw the water truck broke
down and that was because of a vapor lock in the engine which lead to a
30 minute late start on Titan Machinery of Oskaloosa and Pajama Night at
the Speedway.
During intermission the top 2 drivers in points in each class would race little RC Cars around a little make shift track on the frontstretch and it was Cayden Carter taking the win over Curtis Vanderwal.
First feature of the night was the Autocrafters/Whalen Racing IMCA Sport Compacts 8 lap feature. John Whalen would take the early lead but it was racing veteran Merv Chandler taking the lead on lap 4. Chandler would go on and take his 6th win in the last 7 weeks and 7th of the season at the Southern Iowa Speedway. Bill Whalen Jr would pass his brother John for 2nd. Tim Bevins and Anthony Cassat would round out the top 5.
Next up was the Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA SportMods feature and it was Bill Gibson leading from start to finish in the green-to-checkered caution free feature. Ryan Fullenkamp would cross the line in 2nd but be disqualifed in post race tech because it MSD ignition box and chip wasn't working. Curtis Vanderwal would be promoted to 2nd, Eric Flander to 3rd, Jesse Sobbing to 4th and Carter Vandenberg to 5th.
In the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks feature before 1 lap was completed Jarred Gann would come to a stop in turn 2 to bring out the caution. On the restart, Jamie Songer would start right where he left off 1 week ago and that was take the lead but just after the completion of 2 laps the caution would come out when Mike Hughes would go off the backstretch entering turn 3. Songer would get passed by Dustin Griffiths on the restart and Griffiths would hold the lead until lap 5 when the caution would come out for Shannon Anderson coming to a stop in turn 1 and then again on the restart when Richard Puhlka would hit a tractor tire on the bottom side of turn 4. Griffiths would not let that bother him as he would go on and take the win despite another caution on lap 7. Songer would end 2nd, Mike Hughes would come back up and finish 3rd, Kevin Fee was 4th and Kris Walker driving Scott Shull's car was 5th.
Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars feature would see Leroy Groenendyk lead the first lap before Grinnell's Todd Reitzler would take the top spot away when Groenendyk would slip up in turns 1 and 2. Reitzler would continue to lead until the first caution came out on lap 5 for Todd Phillips in turn 3 and then again on lap 12 for Corey Stout in turn 2. Reitzler would go on to the win with Alan Van Gorp in 2nd, Damon Murty in 3rd, Matt Greiner in 4th and Nathan Wood in 5th.
Final feature of the night was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds feature. Bill Davis Jr was making his 3rd appearance of the season and he made it worth the trip as he would lead all 15 laps. There would be 3 mid race cautions on laps 8 and 9, the first 2 on lap 8 for Jacob Murray in turn 4 and then Todd Shute in turn 2. The caution on lap 9 for Scott Dickey going off the backstretch. None of those cautions would bother Davis as he would take the win with Andrew Schroeder in 2nd. Jake Durbin making his 1st appearance was 3rd, Jacob Murray was 4th and Beau Kaplan was 5th.
Next Week the Southern Iowa Speedway will host the 18th Annual Budweiser World Products Stock Car Shootout with Fireworks after the Races. IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Modifieds and IMCA SportMods will all race for a $1,000 to win, IMCA Hobby Stocks $700 to win, 2nd place gets $500 and $200 to win IMCA Sport Compacts, all classes will be draw/redraw. Grandstand admission prices will be Adults $12, Students $5 and Kids (6 and Under) Free. Pits will be $25 for 14 and Over, Students (7-13) $15, Kids (6 and Under) $10 and there will also be a Party Pit Pass available for $15.
Also reminder the pits gates will be open all day, Grandstands Open at 4 pm, Hot Laps will be at 5:30 pm and Racing will be scheduled to start at 6 pm. For Information be sure to check out Sis Osky on Facebook or http://www.oskyspeedway.com/

On to Saturday i headed to the Iowa Speedway and arrived there at about 12:30pm and began to have a fun day and just shortly after the Star Mazda Series Race completed 91 laps and the Indy Car Autograph Session would come to an end a severe Thunderstorm would roll in and this would force the star mazda race completed and the rest of the schedule for the night would see a modification.
In the Star Mazad Series Iowa Speedway Foundation 100 it was Sage Karam getting the win in the rain shorten race. Martin Scuncio, Connor De Phillippi, Petri Suvanto and Gaby Chaves round out the top 5.
Because it kept raining for another hour the track crew would get the track dry just in time for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 which would go to the track at just a little after 9 pm and the Sukup 100 for the Firestone Indy Lights Series would race immediately following the Iowa Corn Indy 250.
In the Iowa Corn Indy 250 some bizarre stuff would happen right as the race was scheduled to go to start as Alex Tagliani would lose power and come to a stop and while the Indy Safety Team was there trying to get him restarted, Pole sitter Dario Franchitti would see his honda engine expire. So the first 9 laps were run under yellow and it would see Helio Castroneves leading them.
James Hinchcliffe, Mayor of Hinchtown, would take the lead on lap 52 from Castroneves and then 16 laps later the caution would come out when EJ Viso and Will Power would get together in turn 2. Hinchcliffe would lose the lead Rubens Barrichello when he pitted, the next lap Barrichello would give the lead to James Jakes when he would pit.
When Jame Jakes would then give the lead back over to Castroneves a lap later. The 3rd race caution would come out on lap 98 when Jr Hildebrand would get in the turn 4 wall and then roll to a stop in turn 1.
Castroneves would give the lead to Ryan Hunter-Reay on lap 155. Hunter-Reay would give the lead over to Stott Dixon on lap 157. Dison would hold on to the lead until 177 when Ryan Briscoe would take the lead. Marco Andretti would take the lead away from Briscoe on lap 179 when the the caution would come out for Briscoe and Josef Newgarden would get together in turn 2.
Andretti would give the lead back over to Dixon on lap 182. The next race caution would come out on lap 197 when James Hinchcliffe would spin his tires. Dixon would continue to lead until Hunter-Reay would get by on lap 238 and 10 laps later the caution would come out for Katherine Legge getting in the turn 2 wall.
Ryan Hunter-Reay would take his 2nd win in a row, Marco Andretti would get 2nd, Tony Kanaan would get 3rd, Scott Dixon was 4th and Simon Pagenaud was 5th. Top 3 cars were all Chevrolet powered engines and hondas would finish 4th and 5th.
After all the victory lane photos and interviews completed it was time for the Sukup 100 for the Firstone Indy Lights Series. Tristan Vautier would lead the first 70 laps before his teammate Esteban Guerrieri would get by and take the lead. The only race caution would come out on lap 109 when Oliver Webb would make contact with turn 4 wall. The Indy Crew would get it cleanup and they would have a green-white-checkered finish. Guerrieri took the win, Gustavo Yacaman would take 2nd, Victor Carbone was 3rd, Vautier was 4th amd David Ostella was 5th.
It was a fun day despite the rain that fell out of the sk but i was so tired by the time i arrived home at just after 1 am meaning i spent 13 hours at the speedway.

Denny Eckrich takes Deery Checkers at SIS
The weather guys and gals tried to predict when the rain was coming and all day i heard the rain would be heading for the Southern Iowa Speedway and be there around 10 pm but the final feature of the night would see the checkered flag wave as the clock struck the 10 pm and still no rain at the track.
It was Musco Lighting Mid-Season Championships Night plus the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models in attendance to do battle on the big half mile. No b-features would be required so after the late models did there redraw, the track would go right into the features.
First feature of the night was the Autocrafters/Whalen Racing IMCA Sport Compacts feature. Brad Chandler would take the early lead but on lap 3, Brad Chandler would now have to deal with his dad Merv Chandler they would rub with each other and it would be the racing veteran Merv Chandler taking the lead and going on to the his 6th win of the year at SIS. Brad Chandler would settle for 2nd, Bill Whalen Jr was 3rd, Cody Thompson was 4th and Ricky Kay was 5th.
In the Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Car feature it was the caution coming out before a lap was completed when Leroy Groenendyk got sideways and forcing Zack Vanderbeek to slide, neither car would have damage and be able to continue. Alan Van Gorp would jump out to the lead and appeared to be going on to the win until Damon Murty and Matt Greiner would battle for the lead. Murty would slip up allowing Greiner and Van Gorp to battle for the lead and it was Greiner sneaking by on lap 10. Greiner would go on and take the win, his 2nd of the year at SIS. Van Gorp, Vanderbeek, Murty and Nathan Wood would round out the top 5.
Next up was the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stock feature and it was Jamie Songer getting out front early and not looking back as Songer would go on to his 1st win of the year at SIS. Last Week's Feature Winner Bobby Greene was 2nd, Points Leader Shannon Anderson was 3rd, Danny Thrasher was 4th and Mike Hughes was 5th.
The Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA SportMods feature would be a caution filled feature. Bryan Weyer would jump out the early lead but just after 1 lap was scored the caution would come out for Bill Gibson going off turn 3. After another lap was completed the caution would come out for Levi Laymon coming to a stop in turn 2. Weyer wouldn't let that bother him but after 2 more laps were completed the caution would come out for debris on the topside of turn 2. The following 2 laps the caution would fly again for debris on lap 5 and lap 6. Weyer would lead the remaining 3 laps despite being chased down by Jesse Sobbing. Weyer took his 3rd win of the year at SIS, Sobbing would take runner up honors. Curtis VanDerWal, Carter VanDenBerg, Jason Hall and Tony Johnson finished 3rd through 5th.
The final feature of the night was the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models 35 lap feature. Ray Guss Jr. and Denny Eckrich would start on the front row and it was Denny Eckrich jumping out to the lead and it appeared nothing was going to slow him down not even lap traffic until the only race caution came out on lap 20 for Justin Diercks sitting up in the topside of turn 2.
Eckrich would resume command and go on and take his 2nd win of the Deery Season. Ray Guss Jr. was 2nd, Todd Cooney was 3rd, Jeff Aikey was 4th and Andy Eckrich was 5th. Sunoco Race Fuels $250 bonus goes to Jeff Mitrisin.

Whalen, Sobbing & Murray Repeat Winners; Pinkerton and Greene take top honors on Yaw's Auto Salvage Night
The Southern Iowa Speedway has continued to make it family friendly mid-week racing venture and this week was no different story. This week there would be a trick-or-treating before the races, a costume contest for adults and kids, Stock Car Australian Pursuit and SportMod King of the Hill added to the action pack night of racing.
The nights sponsor was Yaw's Auto Salvage and the first 250 people would get $2 off and residents of Albia, Lynnville and Sully would get in for 5 dollars. Extra money would be also added to the purses for 4 of the classes thanks to some sponsors like Supreme Lawn and Landscape, Pyramid Graphics and Sports, Stout Structures and Edel Lawn Care.
Before the features got going it was the John's Tree Service SportMod King of the Hill and 16 drivers would compete but it was Jesse Sobbing making the 3.5 hour pull from Glenwood taking the win over Scott Davis from Madrid in the final round to take an extra $100 home. Davis would earn a free pit pass for next week as would Bill Gibson and Josh Modde.
In the Stock Car Australian Pursuit it was Damon Murty and Brad Pinkerton up front the entire race but infortunately because the last car every lap was eliminated it would be Damon Murty leading the last lap and taking the win.
We would also learn the winner of the Drivers coupons giveaway and it was IMCA Hobby Stock driver Bobby Greene.
The first feature of the night was the Autocrafters/Whalen Racing IMCA Sport Compacts and it was Bill Whalen Jr leading all 8 laps and held off a late race challenge by Merv Chandler to take the win. Whalen had said earlier in the night that he was going to go out and win in honor of a racing friend Tim Sands that we lost last week. For Whalen it was was his 2nd win of the season in Osky, Chandler would finish 2nd, Chuck Fullencamp was 3rd, John Whalen was 4th and Ronald McCish was 5th.
In the Tracy Elevator IMCA Hobby Stocks it was Jamie Songer taking the early race lead but infortunately the first race caution came out on lap 4 when Mike Hughes would come to a stop in turn 2. On the restart Songer would be passed by Bobby Greene and Mark Fee, Greene would take over the lead with Fee in 2nd. Another race caution would come out on lap 10 for debris on the front straightaway and 2 laps again this time because Dustin Griffiths would fly off the back stretch and get turned around and try to come back on the track. Shannon Anderson would work his way up to 2nd and would try several attempts to get by Greene but Greene would hold of Anderson to take the win. Hughes would work his way back up to 3rd, Fee was 4th and Songer was 5th.
Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds would see Andrew Schroeder jump to the early lead but after 2 laps was completed the caution came out for Dakota Hayden getting in the turn 2 wall. On the restart it was Jacob Murray taking over the lead and then Schroeder would encounter some issues and head pit side. Murray would see the yellow come out again on lap 4 when Tyler Cale and Scott Dickey would get together on the front straightaway. Murray would go on to take his 4th win at Osky and 2nd straight win. Josh Foster was 2nd, Cayden Carter was 3rd, Mark Widmar was 4th and Brandon Banks was 5th.
Next up was the Pyramid Graphics and Sports IMCA SportMods and it was Ben Kates from Tonganoxie, Kansas leading lap but on lap 2 it was Jason Hall sneaking by for the lead. Hall would lead and start to pull away until Jason McDaniel and Jesse Sobbing would chase him down late in the race. Sobbing would take the lead on lap 13 and go on take his 4th win of the regular season and 5th overall at Osky. McDaniel, Hall, Kates and Brett Lowry would round out the top 5.
Final feature of the night was ther Carter's Manufacturing IMCA Stock Cars and it was Brad Pinkerton once again taking the lead. Pinkerton would have to deal with Colt Mather throughout the entire event and when the caution came out on lap 11 for Damon Murty going off the back straightaway, Pinketon would now have to deal with Nathan Wood and Matt Greiner. Pinkerton would continue to hold of the challenges when the yellow came out again on lap 13 for Todd Phillips going off the back straightaway. Pinkerton would go on and lead the remaining 3 laps and take the win. Mather would finish 2nd, Wood was 3rd, Greiner was 4th and Alan Van Gorp was 5th.
Next Wednesday Night it will be Musco Sports Lighting Mid-Season Championship Night featuring the return of the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series to the 1/2 mile. Also racing will be the IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Thats right the IMCA Modifieds will have the night off next week.
Exciting and Fantastic Finishes on JR Motorsports and Chase Decals Night at Motown
The track would prove to be great as there would
be 2, 3 and 4 wide racing all night on the high banked quarter mile.
The feature finish would go down to the
checkered flag in all features tonight.
First up on the night was the annual Faster Pastor Race and the race would come to a premature ending when Troy Emley of Liscomb Church would roll the Hobby Stock of Adam Rickett off of turn 2, Emley would be okay and that would give the win to Kenny from New Hope Christian Church, who was driving Jennifer Hulin’s Hobby Stock. Mark Schapp from the Evangelical Covenant Church was 2nd. Jesse Hinklie in the Orchard Hall Church was 3rd. Bob Kosbau from Marshalltown Evangelical Free Church was 4th and Emley was 5th.
David Moorman would inherit the pole in the IMCA Sport Compact feature and he would lead the first 4 laps before Merv Chandler would make the move and take the lead on lap 5. Moorman wouldn’t give up and would race Chandler hard the last 2 laps but it was Chandler taking his 6th win of the season at Marshalltown. Moorman would finish 2nd, Duayne Herb was 3rd and Justin Tharp was 4th.
O’Reilly Auto Parts Mod Lites feature would see the caution fly before a single lap was completed and it set up a complete restart. On the restart it was Dusty Masolini taking the lead until the caution would again fly on lap 2. Masolini would have to deal with Mike Morrill on the restart and it was Morrill making the move and taking the lead on lap 3. Shortly after that the final race caution would come out. Morrill would continue to resume command and then Josh May would work his way up to 2nd and start battling for the lead with Morrill. May would lead lap 13 but Morrill would storm back and go on and take the win with May coming home in 2nd. Randy Bryan, Masolini and Mike Kennedy round out the top 5.
After 4 heats and 1 b-feature determined the starting field it was time for the Big 8 Tyre Center IMCA SportMods feature. Travis Peterson would jump out to the early lead before Jayme Duinink would slip by on lap 3. Duinink would see the yellow come out a lap later and again on lap 8. After the restart on lap 8, Duinink would have to deal with Nick Roberts and Racer Hulin but it was Hulin that would have the great restart and take over the lead. The race would see 3 more cautions come out on lap 10, 12 and 13 but it created some exciting battles behind Hulin they were getting 2 and 3 wide behind him. Hulin would hold on and take the win, Nick Roberts was 2nd, Carter Vandenberg was 3rd, Scott Davis was 4th and Jenae Gustin was 5th after starting 21st.
It Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stocks feature it was Garrett Eilander leading lap 1 before Eilander would come to a stop in turn 2 meanwhile a couple cars get together in turn 4. Eric Larson would inherit the lead and on the restart it was crazy as the leaders would get together and cause a 3 car incident on the backstretch involving Kevin Fee, Scott Pippert and Donavon Nunnikhoven. Larson still remains out front even after the last caution on lap 4. It appeared Larson was going to win it but Kevin Fee was on a tear and he would come up and take the lead with just 4 laps to go. Fee would take the win with Larson in the runner-up spot. Austin Luellen, Josh Saunders and Gary Pfantz would complete out the top 5.
The Mike’s Hard Lemonade IMCA Stock Cars would see Trevor Titus leading the first 2 laps before Jeff Wollam would take over the lead on lap 3. Michael Murphy would take over the lead on lap 5 and a lap later the first race caution came out. Murphy would continue to lead it even through a caution on lap 8. By lap 10, Brian Irvine had caught up to Murphy and began a battle for the lead. Irvine would take the lead on lap 12 before Murphy would take it back on lap 14. Irvine wouldn’t give up as Irvine took the lead back on lap 16 and the Irvine and Murphy would get together in turns 1 and 2 to bring out the caution again forcing a green-white-checkered. The good fortune was in the hands of Jay Schmidt as he would inherit the lead and lead the final 2 laps to take the win, his 2nd of the season at Marshalltown. Jeff Wollam, Tracy Gienger, Scooter Dulin and Trevor Titus would round out the top 5.
The final feature of the night was Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel IMCA Modifieds feature and it was a very exciting feature that would have 3 and 4 wide racing through out the feature event. Duane Peterson would lead the first lap before Zack Rawlins would take over the top spot on lap 2. Shortly after Rawlins took the lead the caution came out. Rawlins looked to be going away with the win but the caution on lap 14 would bunch the field again but again it was Rawlins pulling away. Just after Rawlins took the white flag the caution came out for a car stopped on the run off road forcing a green-white-checkered finish and meaning the feature would go 21 laps. On the restart, Rawlins would struggle and bunch everybody up and there would 3 and 4 wide racing and this would allow Kyle Brown to take the lead but his lead would be short lived as Jimmy Gustin was running the bottom would come up and take the win after starting 19th because of troubles in the heat race. Richie Gustin would finish a close 2nd, Jon Snyder was 3rd, Ronn Lauritzen was 4th and Pat Graham was 5th.

Vandenberg would go on to the win despite a couple of cautions on lap 5 and one caution on lap 14 that forced a green-white-checkered finish. Matt Lettow, Scott Davis, Joel Rust and Brandon Leeman would round out the top 5. Heat winners were Embrey, Mitch Frakes and Lettow.
Chalfant Plumbing Stock Car feature would see the caution fly before a single lap was scored when Laura Curry, Dennis Plain and Vincent Loewen would get together in turn 2. When the race got going it was Adam Silvey taking the lead but his lead would be short lived as Lance Deal would get by on lap 2. Shortly after Deal took the lead Jeff Deal would bring out the yellow. Lance Deal wouldn't let that slow him down neither would the debris caution on lap 8.
The final feature of the night was the headliner Inaugural Wayne Redmond Rumble 30 for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour. Jeremy Mills would lead from wire-to-wire be leading all 30 laps even after 4 early race cautions and a caution on lap 25. Hawkeye Dirt Tour Series Point Leader Richie Gustin would finish 2nd, Mark Schulte was 3rd, Jay Noteboom would finish 4th after starting 14th and Kevin Pittman would round out the top 5.
